Review summaries and opinions

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

ROI

Sentiment score
6.8
Denodo improved efficiency, ROI, decision-making, reduced churn, and increased loyalty, significantly enhancing data processing and systems replacement.
Sentiment score
5.9
Talend Data integration streamlines processing, boosts efficiency, saves time, is scalable, user-friendly, improves accuracy, and adds business value.
It has helped us save a lot of time by automating repetitive data processes and reducing manual interventions.
They didn't want to use separate ETL tools for MDM or for TMC and data preparation, which is all included in one package.

Customer Service

Sentiment score
7.2
Denodo's support is praised for responsiveness and expertise but criticized for slow bug fixes and lack of proactive engagement.
Sentiment score
7.2
Talend users find the customer service responsive and helpful, though complex issues may require Java routines and take longer.
They have a good methodology for learning how to use the tool.
Denodo's customer support team is very competent and responsive.
If we raise a ticket, it can be resolved or addressed within a reasonable time frame, so support is good.
The support team is responsive when we raise issues, and they usually provide clear guidance or solutions.
The customer support for Talend Data Integration is very good; whenever I raise a ticket in the customer portal, I immediately receive an email, and follow-up communication is prompt.

Scalability Issues

Sentiment score
7.5
Denodo is scalable and integrates widely but may require additional management for performance and cost efficiency.
Sentiment score
6.9
Talend Data Integration is scalable, effectively managing large data volumes with job parallelization and modular design, rated eight out of ten.
For huge data requests, it cannot scale automatically; admin action is required.
While the solution scales well on a single machine, I have doubts about its scalability when deployed as part of a Java component cluster.
Its complexity in configuring and the requirement to install different connectors for different sources affects its scalability.
By using features like job parallelization and modular design, we can expand our data flows without having to rebuild everything.
The scalability of Talend Data Integration is good; if it weren't scalable, it wouldn't be reliable.

Stability Issues

Sentiment score
6.9
Denodo offers robust stability with minor bugs; high reliability improves in the latest version despite complex scenario challenges.
Sentiment score
7.2
Talend Data Integration is reliable, stable, and dependable for large data volumes with well-designed deployments and adequate infrastructure.
I would rate it nine out of ten because it is very reliable, always performing as expected.
If JVM does not function properly, it may cause Denodo to fail to connect to different sources.
Once the jobs are properly designed and deployed, they run reliably without major issues.

Room For Improvement

The system needs comprehensive improvements in functionality, integration, support, UI, scalability, security, documentation, and external tool compatibility.
Talend Data Integration requires better debugging tools, technical support, interface user-friendliness, and enhanced cloud connectivity and processing capabilities.
Ensuring data caching is up to date is critical.
Denodo needs better communication on how the product can be deployed for specific solutions.
The system has dependencies on other environments, like JVM, which can affect its performance.
It would be great to have more ready-to-use connectors for modern cloud and SaaS platforms.
Talend Data Integration can be improved by reducing the license cost, as it is a bit high compared to other tools, which can be a burden for small-scale companies wanting to buy a license.
Regarding ETL, Talend Data Integration is great, but concerning real-time data processing, people are not really sure about Talend Data Integration or might not know how it provides such types of flexibilities.

Setup Cost

Denodo pricing is costly, designed for large enterprises, with complex licensing and costs varying by customer needs.
<p>Talend Data Integration offers scalable annual pricing, praised for cost-effectiveness but advanced features may increase costs, with strong support.</p>
Denodo is considered pricey, limiting its use to large enterprises or government organizations that can afford its comprehensive setup.
Denodo's pricing is not affordable for small companies and is more suitable for medium to large enterprises.
My experience with Talend Data Integration's pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that it is a bit higher compared to other tools, making it not very affordable.

Valuable Features

Denodo is praised for data virtualization, efficiently integrating and managing diverse sources with strong security, introspection, and visualization.
Talend Data Integration offers extensive connectivity, Java integration, automation, and centralized management, enhancing efficiency and stability in data processes.
Denodo's ability to connect to multiple data sources and perform extract-transform-load (ETL) operations on the fly is noteworthy.
The most valuable feature of Denodo is its uniformity of self-site data access types, which allows it to connect to almost any storage technology and feed it transparently.
Denodo supports SQL base, so if you want to join two tables or two views, you can use SQL, which is an advantage as most developers or business people know SQL.
By automating daily data loading processes, we reduced manual effort by around three or four hours per day, which saved roughly 60 to 80 hours per month.
Flexibility is a key feature I appreciate about Talend Data Integration, especially the integration of Java within it and the ease of integrating with multiple source repositories such as GitHub and Bitbucket.
The best feature of Talend Data Integration is its multiple data DB components; we have almost all the components and also cloud versions, with TMC allowing us to perform data preparation and data stewardship.

Data virtualization and integration enabled while caching and scalability room for improvement
In terms of improvements for Denodo, regarding performance, in cases where there are multiple virtualizations—such as reading from one Denodo view that is virtualized, and from that view there's also virtualization, and another team is reading from that view—if multiple virtualizations happen with no caching in between, it becomes slow. This occurs because it is cascading; whenever at the top level someone is reading data, that request is getting cascaded to the nth level, causing issues, especially in cases such as Power BI reports. We need to consider implementing some persistent layer in between. The scaling process should improve because many things are getting automated. The scale-out part needs to be automated, though I am uncertain whether Denodo has already implemented that feature.

Offers flexibility and ease of integration while needing improvements in data flow management
I haven't worked with Talend Data Integration on real-time data processing; I have only seen the streaming component, and I think it can accommodate limited streaming, not at the level of larger big data platforms. Regarding ETL, Talend Data Integration is great, but concerning real-time data processing, people are not really sure about Talend Data Integration or might not know how it provides such types of flexibilities. I haven't worked on this aspect in Talend Data Integration, so this is definitely an area where it lacks. To elaborate on one drawback, if I am designing something in Talend Data Integration, I cannot backtrack in the flow. For example, if I read data from a source and transform it before applying complex aggregation in the third step, I cannot join this data with the second step. If I need to go back, I will have to use a memory component, or if I need to avoid memory consumption, I will have to read the data from step one again to join it with the third step.
