Facilitates integration of test scenarios while needing modernization of components
CucumberStudio is primarily used for designing test scenarios and automating testing. We have implemented it in conjunction with our own routines for integration into our infrastructure CucumberStudio aligns with our strategy for data-driven testing. It supports our product owners in designing…

Has improved development quality and speed but has introduced persistent IDE slowdowns
In recent years, the IDE has been more buggy and slower, and although there have been more features added, I would like to see more stability, as some areas that used to work for a fairly long time are now slower in my development, which feels like a step back. I choose a seven mainly due to the issues we've faced with slowdowns and bugs during development, while runtime has been very stable, and the overall output on Mendix platform is still good; there is definitely some room for improvement, and I would probably have given it an eight or even a nine if those issues weren't hurting my developer output for the past few years. Overall, Mendix platform is stable, but the IDE could be better.

Pros

"CucumberStudio aligns with our strategy for data-driven testing."
"Using HipTest makes the testing process easy and its support for Behavior Driven Development helps align all the team members, whether technical or non-technical."
"CucumberStudio has a very user-friendly interface."
"Hiptest is a great test management tool for agile teams."
"The most valuable feature is the re-usability of action words."
"Hiptest allowed us to clean up our test campaigns and standardize the way we write test cases and structure our BDD approach."
"The most valuable feature of CucumberStudio is its use of action words, which allows me to avoid writing test cases from scratch for the most common scenarios."
"The URL is very useful, and it has a very good UI for deploying information of the scenarios created."
"The domain model of Mendix is highly valuable as it allows quick setup and public deployment."
"I enjoy the low-code nature of the product; it's user-friendly, very easy to handle, and the product was easy to set up."
"Mendix has made a great deal of effort to provide its developers a healthy, modern environment for developing. First of all, it adopts Agile methodology by creating a SCRUM-based app where you can handle your user stories. Next comes version control, which really allows multiple team members to collaborate quite easily. And last but not least, Mendix modeler, which is your IDE for developing Mendix apps."
"In short, Mendix has improved our ability to delight our customers."
"I also worked on another platform where deployment could easily take hours, yet with Mendix, it was minutes."
"The features that I have found most valuable with Mendix are its business process management and its minimal low code, both from an interface perspective and from a process perspective."
"When I often want to pitch Mendix, if there is something out of the box that is not available, I can always extend Mendix. Whether it's the front end or the back end, It can be extended with Java. I've also built many widgets using Mendix."
"You can scale the solution."

Cons

"The reporting needs to be improved."
"A key area for improvement is to revamp outdated components such as HipTest publisher."
"Yes, it is not stable when you create a data table that includes more than 30 elements, so it can lose your data."
"CucumberStudio's API integration could be improved both in terms of reliability and design."
"A key area for improvement is to revamp outdated components such as HipTest publisher."
"Support with In-App chat is great. However, it would be awesome to have real time support also for PT timezone."
"It needs some improvement when exporting scenarios into automation code, to make it easier to manage the repeatable action words and tests."
"Copy-pasting something directly from JIRA requires too much modification and formatting."
"Needs multiple database connections so an app can directly read/write data to/from multiple databases."
"UX/UI design is still the largest area that can be improved, or at least be made easier."
"While the documentation is good, the development box could be better."
"Lastly, the licensing model does not scale well with many users. This is a huge problem as apps that have many users become very expensive and can kill the business case."
"There should be more integration with engineering applications and tighter integration for user authentication, such as single sign-on, etc. They have some of that. It just could be stronger."
"We are all moving away from a monolithic product model to microservices. We are building an F2DUI application to decouple the front and back end. Mendix provides an integrated approach for both."
"Mendix could improve in customization and UI, UX flexibility, native mobile development, and agile tooling for developers."
"There are not enough developers who are using Mendix. The knowledge base available online and in the market is not as rich as other competitors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Mendix is not open source, but its license cost is cheap, particularly when compared to the Appian license. The license model would depend on how many users you have and how many applications you are creating. If you are creating a single app, you just need to have a single app license, so it's free. If you want a multiple app license to cover two thousand or three thousand users, for example, internal users or external users, then you need to pay for the license. There's also a license model for above three thousand or four thousand, or five thousand internal and external users."
"From a commercial point of view, we would like them to change that they currently sell it as a platform, but as a customer you have to decide upfront the usage of the platform. We would like to have Mendix sell it as a pay as you go model: You pay for what you use, and you don't pay for what you don't use."
"Initially, we started with a year for approximately $25,000, and if we need to expand the number of seats then we will increase it."
"There is a license required to use Mendix. The solution's price is high, but it is best suited for enterprise companies that have the budget. It is not for small or medium-sized businesses."
"Pricing used to be complex, but Mendix has improved that quite a bit."
"Its cost is higher than competitors. The cost mostly includes licensing. It is charged per user. The cost model could be better. When you have a big company, what does per user mean? If I have a company where I have 40,000 people who will go to access it but only 200 do, how do you license it and who do you pay for? If they hit it once, do you pay for it? The licensing is complex for a big company. It is easy for us to buy all we can eat, get an enterprise license agreement, and call it good."
"Licensing costs are similar to those for all other IT technology, but they vary by region."
"Mendix seems a bit expensive. But in terms of wanting to have less developers and higher velocity, the total cost of ownership is fine. It's not cheap, though."
