Unification of security features strengthens network protection
The overall network security is good. It's big-picture, all in one bundle. It's valuable to have everything in one place instead of spreading across different products. Unified security management positively affects a company's security operations. They have one unified view of the security. I can connect multiple gateways to the management and have it in one place. I can have reporting and views in a single pane of glass on the consolidated platform. It's easy to use. The management is the best on the market. It's very easy to work with, read, understand, and navigate. It helps increase our customer's security posture. We can see in some cases CloudGuard improves our customers' posture overall.

Flexible and reduces IT operations but requires local data sovereignty and competitive pricing
I prefer having local data sovereignty. It would be advantageous for Palo Alto to have local data centers across different countries to adhere to this requirement. I also have a concern regarding pricing, which is perceived as high compared to competitors. Improvements should focus on response times and reducing the time taken to reach solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We consolidated from three management consoles and three clusters to only one, which is a big improvement."
"The CloudGuard Network Security's most valuable feature is implementing IPS for accessing our data center and server environment in Azure. It helps us to prevent attacks. By protecting our environment with Check Point, which we were already familiar with, it provided a solution that extended into the cloud environment."
"We managed to reduce the effort and workload as well as the attack surface across our infrastructure. We now have a more continuous policy."
"It makes securing our cloud workload super easy, and we are able to push any sort of policy changes we need pretty quickly"
"SSL/TLS traffic inspection features are used for advanced threat prevention against secure SSL traffic."
"It was very easy to install the solution, and the architecture meant we didn't have to worry about exceeding the solution's capacity."
"The product offers an easy and nice way to manage the gateways, similar to on-prem hardware. It has packet filtering features. Our security operations are faster and less prone to errors. We selected CloudGuard Network Security due to its visibility."
"Check Point CloudGuard technical support is good."
"Unit 42 MDR provides us with managed detection and response functionalities, eliminating the need for capital expenditure since it is an operational expenditure-based service."

Cons

"People don't know about the tool's features. There's a lack of skill. Users require more knowledge on how to integrate it into the cloud environment and orchestrate routing. So, it's not necessarily a CloudGuard Network Security or Check Point issue but more about integration, knowledge, and understanding."
"CloudGuard Network Security could be improved in the area of upgrading in place."
"There are some usability issues we'd like to see improved."
"The biggest room for improvement is that, for a long time now, they've moved everything over to R80 but they still maintain some of the stuff in the old dashboard. They need to "buy in" and move everything to the modern dashboard so that you don't have to go to one place and to another place, at times, to configure the environment. It's time they just finish what they started and put everything in the new, modern dashboard."
"Greater automation would reduce the need for manual configuration and management."
"VPN troubleshooting can certainly be improved. It is horrible at this point, honestly."
"It's not a scale set. It's a single node. We'd need to look at the scale set to see if there was a way to get better performance."
"The pricing is too high."
"I also have a concern regarding pricing, which is perceived as high compared to competitors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I know that we have an enterprise agreement with Check Point. That gives us some benefits, but I do not have more information about that."
"We explored both pay-as-you-go and build-your-own-licensing models, and found both to be competitive."
"I quite like the way they priced it. It is very reasonable."
"We pay approximately ‎€150,000 ($166,000 USD) per year."
"The licesning has some good features. For example, the scaling feature is free of charge, allowing multiple scale-ups and scale-downs over a two-week period, which is pretty good."
"I like the flexibility because I am pretty sure you can use the same license on Azure or AWS. I forgot the name of the license, but there is a specific type you can use that lets you interchange them, and that is pretty good. I like that."
"The price of Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is very high compared to other solutions, such as Fortinet FortiMail. For the over 2,000 mailboxes we use with the solution it is very expensive."
"The tool's pricing is not cheap."
