Inexpensive, easy to configure, good support, and it is easy to scale up when needed
The most valuable feature is the interface, which is very nice to work with. Whether you're working on the appliance itself, or you're working on the cloud, it is basically the same interface. It got to the point where when we needed to recover a file, we didn't look at the backup solution anymore. Instead, we went right to the Datto Backupify. Using Backupify took our time to recover from probably four days to 20 minutes. With this device, you're capable of logging into the interface or through an IP address to access the data that is stored on it. Recovery can be just a matter of spinning up a virtual machine or doing a full bare metal recovery, replacing the entire hardware-based server.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the interface, which is very nice to work with."
"I'd recommend it it's a really good, straightforward, easy use system, with no hidden strings."
"The most valuable features are the ease of use and the fact that users themselves can self-provision and recover."
"Using Backupify took our time to recover from probably four days to 20 minutes."
"The long-term journal is one feature that is useful in that it allows us to use the product as both CDP and backup."
"HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication is great, just based on the small timeline that's there; that's what I found to be most beneficial."
"The most valuable feature is how simple it is to implement and how quickly you can get up and running at the second site. The solution is also extremely easy to use, for example, You just log onto the console and you can do a test failover with a few clicks."
"Now, the average recovery is nine seconds, which is pretty big because we went from hours, days, or weeks to seconds and minutes to recover."
"The most valuable aspect of Zerto is the recovery speed."
"Zerto is tremendously valuable; it is the backbone of our DR solution for critical databases that hold the data we can't afford to lose and has provided new opportunities to change how we approach disaster recovery."
"HPE Zerto Software has saved me time in data recovery situations due to something like ransomware because we have protection against it."
"The feature of the HPE Zerto Software I appreciate the most is the ease of use of single file restores, which is something we use frequently."

Cons

"Not a ten because there's always room for improvement."
"The device does not allow you to do multiple backups over the whole environment."
"The number one thing we have found we would like changed so far is the cost per VM. It would be great to get that pricing reduced."
"Its price is a little bit on the higher side."
"I would like to see Zerto come up with an emergency line for support."
"The alerting doesn't quite give you the information about what exactly is going on when an issue comes up. We do get alerts inside of our vCenter, but it doesn't quite give you accurate information inside the plugin to be able to tell us what's going on without having to go into the actual Zerto application and figuring out what's causing the issue."
"Zerto needs to improve its support for VMware Lifecycle Manager."
"We're an NSX-T shop, and if I could get an NSX-T integration where it could manage the networks a little tighter, that would be an improvement."
"Sometimes the virtual private group that is created in HPE Zerto Software is sluggish."
"I hope that in the future the product will offer integrated encryption functionalities, so that the VPN setup between protected and protection site can become optional."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The costs were about $1,000 USD to buy the unit in the first place, and then between $250 and $300 per year for support."
"All of my customers are happy with how this product works and they like it, but unfortunately, in the market that I represent, Zerto is expensive when compared with the competition."
"Zerto's pricing structure could be more competitive to better suit the needs of a wider range of businesses."
"Zerto is pretty reasonable. I haven't checked to see how much Rubrik is going to quote us for their solution. At least for us, the price doesn't play a big factor in the decision-making because it is a pretty small deployment for our use case."
"From a pricing standpoint, there is value in it without question. However, it can become quite expensive when you start looking at the number of workloads you have in the environment and what you would like to do."
"Zerto is expensive but offers many features that make it competitive."
"The solution is expensive, but it's worth the price."
"I wish it were cheaper, but I would purchase it again at the same price."
"Zerto is a little expensive."
