Comprehensive coverage, no vendor lock-in, and best customer relationship
Before Anvilogic, we had no visibility into our detection coverage. The ability to break it down by industry verticals, such as attackers and adversaries, is valuable. Detection insights help us easily identify the most noisy ones, the effective ones, and what needs to be fixed to move the noisy ones to effective ones. The hunting capabilities are very good. The AI components and hunting packages give us quick insights into what needs to be looked at. The partnership has been very good. Their professional services and customer relationship have been very good. Our features and bugs have been fixed on time without a lot of follow-up, and their support has been excellent. Finally, there is a feature within Anvilogic that provides the threat landscape or our effectiveness towards the threat landscape on an ongoing basis. That is another feature that we liked.

Has supported client needs efficiently but requires deeper analysis features and faster support
The log analyzing capability of SolarWinds Security Event Manager should go into more depth than the current environment. More modification and enhancements are required on the dashboard side in order to make it closer to optimal performance. From observation and feedback from users, they need more functionality related to monitoring, and in-depth analyzing needs to be improved.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Before Anvilogic, we had no visibility into our detection coverage. The ability to break it down by industry verticals, such as attackers and adversaries, is valuable."
"They teach you and give you insights every morning or every week, saying, 'Hey, this is not working, so what do you want. You're getting one or two of these alerts per day. Do you want to squash them from error to warning?' They're always giving you tips on how to improve the efficiency of the system itself."
"By using this detection engineering platform, we can manage the entire detection engineering lifecycle, making it simple to show executives our progress, where we started, where we currently are, and what remains to be done."
"We are partnering very closely with Anvilogic and pushing the threshold of detection engineering capabilities; we are only able to do many of these capabilities due to the partnership that we have with Anvilogic, where they are meeting what we need to continually push new innovative solutions."
"The deployment was very simple."
"One of the best things about Anvilogic is the partnership, their knowledge, the depth of technical understanding, and the speed at which they respond."
"I view Anvilogic as an easy button for detection engineering—you're talking about replacing multiple headcount and a lot of process and oversight with the technology."
"The solution helps you monitor database instances, application instances, other customer application things, Linux servers, IBM servers, and Oracle servers."
"It performs network behavior monitoring, log monitoring, and disaster recovery monitoring."
"It's easy to build rules and actions based on the logs and event types we collect with the software."
"The product's most effective part in improving security stems from the fact that the solution is deployed for event management, log viewing, and information management."
"It has in-depth monitoring capabilities and an easy way for setting up dashboards. I can expand in various areas, or I can reduce areas. It supports different types of breakdowns, filters, and rules. It is very simple for an out-of-the-box type of product. It doesn't take a lot of time to figure it out, which is unlike some of the solutions that I have looked at. It meets all the aspects."
"The most valuable feature is the reporting."
"The out of the box reports and dashboard. It was easy to trim down these windows to something we could quickly use."
"User-friendly configuration is key, and the configurations are simple, not complex."

Cons

"The pricing is slightly edging towards being a bit much for smaller organizations."
"The hunting insight needs integrable capability with different platforms to gather all of that insight and show it on a single canvas on Anvilogic. That is the only feature that could improve the way we do operations."
"That's challenging because we're not in production and there's not necessarily a deep bench of companies with previous experience."
"Anvilogic could be better in areas of the triage dashboard as they're beholden to Splunk's functionality."
"Anvilogic can be improved by adding the ability to do on-ingest detections. This is something that we have been having a conversation on for a short time now, but I am hopeful that they will have that in their future roadmap."
"We'd like more customization capabilities."
"The reporting could be more robust. It can be a lot more granular and that will make it a lot more useful in comparison to how it is incorporated at the moment."
"We used the support from SolarWinds Security Event Manager and they are knowledgeable but challenging to get in contact with them."
"Under the new system, it is not upgradable the way they say. When you try to do an upgrade, it doesn't really work unless you dump everything and start from scratch. You lose a lot of your nodes. Whenever you set your nodes up and everything else, they don't want to bring those nodes back in, so you have to really go back and restructure all your nodes. I went from version 6.5 to version 6.6 and then to version 6.7. I then went to version 2019, and now it is version 2020. It would be good if we can upgrade without having to delete everything and start from scratch. They can maybe build more KPIs and other things for the dashboard. Some of the other systems already have built-in KPIs. SolarWinds is starting to catch up, but it is not there yet. They can include some of the business or industry standards for tracking the time, that is, the meantime to detect (MTTD) and the meantime to resolve (MTTR). They can also find a way to build a KPI that measures the number of instances of port scans experienced in a week or a month."
"The solution's technical support is okay, but we don't have an SLA, and sometimes the response times are very slow."
"There is no correlation made between log entries, so no threat information is presented."
"The log analyzing capability of SolarWinds Security Event Manager should go into more depth than the current environment."
"There are no multiple dashboards which would allow you to see information side-by-side."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Anvilogic's pricing has been highly competitive."
"We were an early adopter, so the pricing was definitely good. Because they do not completely replace a SIEM, their pricing is slowly edging towards being a little too much for a smaller organization like ours. It is almost on the border."
"We do a yearly license renewal. For a year, the solution costs roughly $500,000 USD. There are no costs beyond this yearly fee."
"The price of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is reasonable."
"Licenses can only be purchased in blocks of fifty at a time."
"It is in the appropriate mid-range. It is not as expensive as some of the other solutions. It is also not cheap."
"The tool is available at a good price for customers compared to other solutions in the market. I rate the product's price as an eight out of ten."
"Licensing is on devices, so if you have many, then this may be high."
"The pricing model would benefit from having package deals with other SolarWinds products."
