The most important feature of Amazon RDS on Outposts for me is the self-managed aspect. The user doesn't have to worry about putting the service online, scaling the solution, and they don't have to worry about backups and other administrative tasks. The self-managed feature by AWS is very interesting. I use the automated backups in Amazon RDS on Outposts, and I recommend it. I work as a consultant for AWS products, and I have recommended Amazon RDS on Outposts and the automatic backup. Automated backups are helpful because the technical team doesn't have to worry about backups, making it much easier. It frees the technical team to deal with other kinds of questions within their projects. Amazon RDS on Outposts positively impacted my organization by being very useful to migrate, freeing the technical team to think about other matters instead of focusing just on backups and provisioning the database.

Pros

"Amazon RDS on Outposts positively impacted my organization by being very useful to migrate, freeing the technical team to think about other matters instead of focusing just on backups and provisioning the database."
"The scalability and cost-effectiveness of AWS were beneficial during spikes in database usage, as it allowed our platform to adjust and remain operational."
"The product's initial setup phase is simple and straightforward."
"The solution reduces the configuration and maintenance of the database."
"The solution is easy to manage."
"The most valuable features are the speed and ease of use."
"The analytics tool, Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), is the main important component of this solution and in the analytics part, the VPD handles all the necessary functions effectively."
"Oracle Multitenant reduces operational costs because it licenses the root container for multiple databases, costing less than traditional non-CDB databases, which results in financial savings for the company."
"It's a really great new option for Database 12c, with huge potential because it allows a container database to hold many pluggable databases."
"Our primary use of Oracle includes writing queries for retrieving data for customers without worrying about the customer ID, user ID, as it is automatically connected to each query."
"You can scale the solution as needed."
"With the right configurations, you can maintain an environment without retaining the risk of losing any kind of data."
"It's easy to use and works great."

Cons

"I find the pricing to be expensive."
"The tool should include features to clone the RDS instances and have more central management for a lot of RDSs, not just every instance."
"Areas that could be improved with Amazon RDS on Outposts for Brazilians include the cost because it remains a very important consideration."
"I would like to see some improvements in its version upgrades because its upgrade from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8 was not straightforward."
"If our database is too big, we sometimes face glitches in it."
"While the product is overall excellent, it is quite expensive."
"The main area for improvement is regarding backup and recovery. Today, it’s difficult to set a pluggable database to a former point in time because flashback pluggable database doesn’t exist."
"This solution is a bit complicated when collecting from containers - that feature should be a bit better."
"From the scope of improvement, I would say that people are adopting new query options. Certain databases like MongoDB adopt new query options so that they can just pull the data."
"The solution lacks a GUI for commands."
"The solution is partially extendable. It is not very easy to scale. If we want to grow, we need additional servers, which is why we are considering the cloud."
"Oracle Support is relatively unprepared for this. It has improved, but it still has a lot of room for improvement."
"There are many functions where changes are not easy to implement, and we try to avoid modifying these areas due to security issues and the complexity of maintaining them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licenses are included with the subscription my company purchases from Amazon."
"Amazon RDS on Outposts is expensive compared to other solutions."
"The solution can get expensive fast."
"The price is worth the quality."
"This solution is a little bit pricey."
"For me, I will go with it if I have the budget. Some features are nicer than before, but at the end of the day, you always have a limited budget. I prefer to upgrade and get a specific hardware when possible. At the end, you will have to make a compromise. You will not get everything you would have liked to have."
