Empowers organizations to reduce change management time by 80% and improve audit efficiency
AlgoSec offers essential features such as risk management, policy optimization, change management, traffic simulation, and compliance auditing. Risk management is crucial for security, enabling deep analysis and threat prioritization, while traffic simulation allows interactive diagnostics for operational traffic management. Change management includes tools for monitoring policy changes and ensuring compliance with security standards, making these features significant for any organization. AlgoSec positively impacts my organization by reducing operation burden, enhancing time efficiency, and saving costs associated with security management. AlgoSec firewall analyzer helps with policy complexity by identifying unused or redundant rules and objects, recommending optimizations such as merging similar rules and removing unnecessary allows. Over time, firewalls can accumulate risky configurations, leading to increased overhead and troubleshooting time, but with AlgoSec, we simplify our rule sets, improve firewall performance, and facilitate faster change implementations.

Provides a graphical overview of our network and is easy to deploy, but needs a user-friendly interface and a feature for compliance audit policy
Sometimes, it required us to refresh the configuration. When we integrated any of the configurations into the device, sometimes, it could not detect the exact picture of that device. So, we had to reset the device to see that if it was giving true-positive results or false-positive results. In some cases, we were not able to get true-positive results. There was some kind of bug in that version. Its interface is not user-friendly and needs to be improved. It takes time to understand the interface and various options. Skybox has quite a user-friendly interface. They could provide a feature for compliance audit policy if it is already not there. A compliance audit policy ensures that all configurations are based on the best practices standards, such as CIS benchmarks standard or other similar standards. It provides visibility about whether your device configuration is based on best practices or not. Usually, such a feature is provided by other solutions such as Meteor or Tenable Nessus.

Efficient in vulnerability management, stable and easy to use
Vulnerability management is the most valuable feature because it lets you focus on the most critical vulnerabilities. That's the important thing. Here in Serbia, there are not so many companies that have too many firewalls inside one company. So, they usually don't buy this model for Firewall Assurance unless there is some compliance. So you can prove that your firewalls are compliant. So, that model is not so important here in Serbia. It's for bigger companies. So, they usually buy network assurance to build the model of the network and vulnerability management to focus on the most important vulnerabilities. Moreover, Skybox can collect data for many vendors. From the endpoint protection vendors to the network equipment vendors to other security vendors. So, it supports more than one hundred vendors to collect data from them.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AlgoBot is a brilliantly, simple idea that lets us give our IT internal customers a way to check if rules are already in place before asking for more."
"We have been able to increase the effectiveness of the team, allowing them to prioritize more complex and business-critical tasks in a faster manner."
"We now have baseline and rules checking."
"The features that are most valuable are the interactive topology map and the traffic simulation queries."
"The most valuable is helping us determine where our rules are too permissive. Based on previous human review of our rules, they are very cursory. We know why we do something, but we don't get into the details of whether the rule is nice and tight. What Firewall Analyzer lets us do is understand the risks presented by our rules. The tool does a calculation of all the traffic that could be allowed and we can match that to whether it should be allowed."
"There are some legacy customers still using AlgoSec. The benefit is the ease in management of firewalls and rules."
"It has reduced our audit preparation efforts and costs drastically and maintains continuous compliance."
"With the solution, we can uncover bottlenecks, streamline, and clean up our firewall rules."
"RedSeal has different modules, such as the Analyzer module, which can be leveraged."
"The most valuable features are network mapping and configuration."
"This is the only solution in the world that gives you a digital resilience score."
"RedSeal integrates the network and gives us a visual or graphical overview of our network. If an organization is geographically dispersed, for instance, with one office in Canada and one office in the Philippines, the whole network, including all devices, is integrated into RedSeal, and you can see from where the traffic is going in and out."
"This type of tool does a great job of reaching into those other devices producing risk recommendations, compliance recommendations, and a single plane of glass to do your queries, so you can find where these rules might exist."
"The most valuable features are the rule compliance and the OS vulnerability checks."
"The product's most valuable feature is vulnerability management."
"The most valuable features of Skybox Security Suite are all the modules that are provided, such as vulnerability assessments and network, and firewall assessments."
"The performance could be good because we chose it at the time, but it is too complex for us to appreciate its performance because we lack the necessary skills."
"It's given us more visibility in terms of what are the kinds of configurations that are on these devices, and how many of these are stale rules. So it's helped greatly in terms of cleaning up of rules, for sure. And it has definitely given us a more secure way of backing up the configuration on these devices."
"Skybox Security Suite is cost-effective."
"The solution's most valuable and unique assets are the vulnerability management and change management solutions because they identify mistakes in the network before implementation which reduces risks."

Cons

"We don't dare push the new policy automatically, We don't have confidence in this feature."
"The only problem I have with AlgoSec is just its level of support, not with the product. Not with the organization or the documentation or anything else, but if I need any additional support, the only problem is the time it takes to get it."
"Needs better technical support and quicker response times."
"The graphical user interface in AlgoSec needs improvement. Sometimes it gets stuck, requiring multiple refreshes."
"Certain firewalls don't integrate with AlgoSec, and it would be great if this bug could be fixed."
"We need a screen to view system logs."
"We would like to see more features in the GUI so that we don't have to work with the API as extensively."
"I would like for there to be more AI functionalities."
"Sometimes, it required us to refresh the configuration. When we integrated any of the configurations into the device, sometimes, it could not detect the exact picture of that device. "There is room for improvement in integrating the OT security part and the private 5G security part in RedSeal."
"The dashboard should be improved to make correlating data easier to do."
"One of the areas of concern is the GUI. It is important to our customers that the GUI looks beautiful. It's a Java Client, so you have a Java dependency."
"If anything could be improved it would be staying on top of the collector scripts, but I understand that's a very tough challenge."
"The solution needs to add more automation and orchestration capabilities. Those features would make the solution much stronger."
"There is room for improvement in pricing. It would be better, especially if a customer bought all four modules."
"The Network Assurance, which helps to create the network model, is not so rich."
"The price could be cheaper."
"The solution does not support certain devices or vendors in some regions or countries due to regulations."
"The solution needs improvement in firewall configuration checks. I would also like to see more configuration checks for Forcepoint and for other non-supported firewalls."
"I've had issues with licensing where, when they were expiring and I asked for the updated licenses, I would the wrong ones. I think their process needs to be straightened out a little bit - I don't know if they fixed it already, it has been awhile. It wasn't as straightforward as it could have been."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is high but the support is extremely poor, so keep that in mind before choosing this product."
"It is fair."
"The pricing for this solution is not cheap, but we get good value for what we pay."
"Price is not my concern. If a tool does its job, it is not my concern to obtain a good price for it. If a tool is needed, we are going to buy it."
"Licensing is offered as a subscription and as a perpetual model."
"I can’t say that this is a cheap system. It's affordable for large enterprises and, in some cases, for mid-sized companies. For the majority of other companies, this solution is out of their price range."
"The pricing is flexible with a low cost setup."
"When I have active and standby firewalls, if I do an analysis of the active firewall and by mistake, I also do an analysis of the secondary or standby firewall, it'll consume two licenses from the total number of licenses I have. So, I need to change the license and make the active firewall secondary. They need to improve how they are counting the number of licenses."
"The pricing is based on the number of endpoints and devices, and we have seen it range from mid-five figures to low six figures."
"The software is expensive. I rate its pricing an eight out of ten."
"I think the price is fair."
"Pricing is on the higher side. In terms of licensing, you should buy the complete suite rather than buying only the Change Manager. I think Change Manager with Vulnerability Control is something that would be interesting to look at."
"The pricing is high, and the licensing model needs more flexibility."
"Licensing is normally on a yearly basis. There may also be a perpetual license. Normally, the customers ask for a lower price. If you want to sell more, you have to think about it."
"Fully understand the total cost of ownership. They have gone to a new model where you have to replace the hardware every X amount of years at a very substantial cost and fully understand your intended number of nodes. To operate a firewall, you have to pay two licenses, a firewall node and a network node. If you are a reasonable-sized organization, this gets expensive very quickly."
"I would rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
"Currently, the licensing costs me about $300 USD for the year. This is a huge amount for my environment."
