Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

Has delivered visually appealing reports and improved user interaction
The integration of TIBCO Jaspersoft with some data sources has limitations that I encountered, and it was not very straightforward. This was one of the concerns with TIBCO Jaspersoft. The limitations include compatibility with some drivers where we do not have adequate JDBC drivers, and because of that, I am not able to make the connection pool. I do see a negative side in terms of support. I am a little disappointed because when we report any defect, it takes time to get a resolution. There are also limitations on some connectors where we do not have connectivity established. These are the few issues I faced while using TIBCO Jaspersoft.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Data handling, visualizations, and aesthetics of it are the most valuable features."
"Good data flow and management."
"Tableau's visualization features let you present information insights quickly and practically. So it's something which I prefer with Tableau. In terms of reporting, I have to point out the sheer quality and function of the Tableau server, but the first impression is that it's a great visualization tool."
"Its dashboarding is the most valuable. It is easy to create visualizations and dashboards and import Excel sheets and ESP files in Tableau as compared to other tools."
"Tableau is easy to use."
"A valuable feature of Tableau is that it is a useful tool for small setups. I shuffle between Tableau and MicroStrategy, so I use Tableau for personal purposes more than enterprise. I like the light version of Tableau for personal usage and doing some use cases on my own. When it comes to something small, I use Tableau for setups, rather than any other tool."
"Tableau is very flexible and easy to learn. It has drag-and-drop function analytics, and its design is very good. It is a very good tool, and it basically brings life into data with good design. We have been creating a lot of interactive visualizations and dashboards. It has a public version. There are public communities from where you can get a lot of examples for practice."
"The most valuable feature is the richness of its visualization and from a self-service standpoint, the ease of use."
"The end-user reporting is very handy and the standard reports that can be achieved by using Jaspersoft Studio are quite impressive."
"You can do quite a lot with it in terms of automated reports and dashboards."
"With the online view, it's easier to create Ad Hoc reports. It has inbuilt reports so we can easily get data from the system and customize the fields."
"It's easy to use and maintain."
"The designer is the most valuable feature."
"The growth time is the most valuable feature of TIBCO Jaspersoft."
"The feature that I like most is the drag and drop capability."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten...The deployment process of TIBCO Jaspersoft is easy."

Cons

"The only issue with the solution is with its prices at a regional level."
"I am not a frequent user of this solution, so I am not sure what they've been doing recently. The last time when I used it, I had to use other tools with it for data extraction and cleansing. Its price should also be improved. It is more expensive than Power BI. In terms of training, there is generally better online training for Power BI, but I am not sure of that. It would be helpful to know from where to access its training."
"To be the best in the market, Tableau has to improve its user interface and also look into developing implementing the best machine learning algorithms."
"Licensing and pricing options could be made better so that more users would be able to use it."
"Small multiples (a.k.a. Trellis charts) are possible only through very hacky means. Update: Still remains a challenge."
"It will be good if the server, could be more stable, and I would like to have the technical service to be more reliable."
"The data preparation could integrate better with Tableau."
"The product needs to allow for better ways to drill down more effectively on the information at hand."
"The upgrades are not easy."
"The reporting templates have room for improvement."
"I would like to see better support for big data."
"TIBCO Jaspersoft would benefit from enabling you to run multiple reports in one file and incorporating more options related to multiple reports."
"The Ad Hoc Report Writer does not include as many features as Tableau and needs to be improved to meet expectations."
"We'd like to see the community version offer a little bit more support and better documentation and we'd like the enterprise edition to have better pricing."
"I would like to see some analysis done prior to data extraction. The data extraction itself could also be improved."
"A better focus should be put on self-service reporting."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing for Tableau is the same as the other products in the market."
"Basically, we prefer a permanent license. A one-time charge is much better."
"We pay for the enterprise license for Tableau. The licensing could be cheaper and more flexible."
"Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
"Tableau's licensing is pretty straightforward and simple."
"The solution's licensing is based on user-basis. It depends on the business ROI it offers. It's not on the higher side or too cheap; it falls in the medium-cost range. The price is determined by user usage, so the cost will also increase as the number of users increases."
"It is expensive when you compare it with Power BI. It should be cheaper."
"Tableau is an expensive solution compared to Power BI."
"Since I checked last time, only one annual license costs about $25,000."
"I find the price to be reliable and not overly costly."
"I would rate the pricing as four out of five because it's expensive."
"I give the cost of the solution a five out of ten."
"The pricing is cost effective because it is based on servers rather than users."
"The solution is a little bit expensive."

Jaspersoft vs. Pentaho – Which one to use & is there any need to purchase the commercial edition
Any company (be it technology, manfucaturing, human resource, ecommerce, SME etc) always has the need for Business Intelligence to some or the other extent. If cost is one of the consideration factor, then the 2 BI tools which are at the forefront are Pentaho and Jaspersoft. But, often the same…
