We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's straightforward in terms of configuration and troubleshooting and log management and monitoring as well. These are the edge points in addition to it being a modular solution where you can capitalize on your current licenses with extra licensing models, which can match the customer's business requirement and it can help the customer to design or to actually plan for their own roadmap.""We are really pleased with Splunk and its features. It would be practically impossible to function without it. To provide a general overview of the system, it's important to note that the standard log files are currently around 250 gigabytes per day. It would be impossible to manually walk through these logs by hand, which is why automation is essential.""The product is at the forefront of auto-remediation networking. It's great.""The most valuable feature is being able to take data and put it into other systems so that we could see the output, and to see where we need to apply our focus.""This intelligent user behavior analytics package is easy to configure and use while remaining feature filled.""The most valuable features are the indexing and powerful search features.""It's easily scalable.""It is a solution that helps test and measure customer satisfaction."

"The interface is very good, and the algorithms are the very best.""Weka eliminates the need for coding, allowing you to easily set parameters and complete the majority of the machine learning task with just a few clicks.""There are many options where you can fill all of the data pre-processing options that you can implement when you're importing the data. You can also normalize the data and standardize it in an easier way.""In Weka, anyone can access the program without being a programmer, which is a good feature since the entry cost is very low.""Weka's best features are its user-friendly graphic interface interpretation of data sets and the ease of analyzing data.""With clustering, if it's a yes, it's a yes, if it's a no, it's a no. It gives you a 100% level of accuracy of a model that has been trained, and that is in most cases, usually misleading. Classification is highly valuable when done as opposed to clustering.""It doesn’t cost anything to use the product.""The path of machine learning in classification and clustering is useful. The GUI can get you results. No programming is needed. No need to write down your script first or send to your model or input your data."

Cons
"They should work to add more built-in correlation searches and more use cases based on worldwide customer experiences. They need more ready-made use cases.""Currently, a lot of network operations need improvement. We still need people to handle incidents. Our vision is to leverage status and convert it directly from the network devices. It would be ideal if we could take action using APIs and API code and remove manual processes.""The ability to do more complicated data investigation would be a welcome addition for pros, though the functionality now gives most people what they need.""We want to have an automated system for bot hunting that enables us to detect anomalies predictively based on historical data. It would be helpful if Splunk included process mining as an alternative option. We have a threat workflow, but it would be useful if we could supplement that with some process mining capabilities over time.""It could be easier to scale the solution if you are using it on-premise, not in the cloud.""In the future I would like to see simplified statistics and analytical threats.""I'm not aware of any lacking features.""There are occasional bugs."

More Splunk User Behavior Analytics Cons →

"If there are a lot more lines of code, then we should use another language.""Weka could be more stable.""Not particularly user friendly.""The product is good, but I would like it to work with big data. I know it has a Spark integration they could use to do analysis in clusters, but it's not so clear how to use it.""A few people said it became slow after a while.""The filter section lacks some specific transformation tools. If you want to change a variable from a numeric variable to a categorical variable, you don't have a feature that can enable you to change a variable from a numeric variable to a categorical variable.""I believe is there are a few newer algorithms that are not present in the Weka libraries. Whereas, for example, if I want to have a solution that involves deep learning, so I don't think that Weka has that capability. So in that case I have to use Python for ... predict any algorithms based on deep learning.""Weka is a little complicated and not necessarily suited for users who aren't skilled and experienced in data science."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I hope we can increase the free license to be more than 5 gig a day. This would help people who want to introduce a POC or a demo license for the solution."
  • "My biggest complaint is the way they do pricing... You can never know the pricing for next year. Every single time you adjust to something new, the price goes up. It's impossible to truly budget for it. It goes up constantly."
  • "There are additional costs associated with the integrator."
  • "The licensing costs is around 10,000 dollars."
  • "Pricing varies based on the packages you choose and the volume of your usage."
  • "I am not aware of the price, but it is expensive."

  • "Currently, I am using an open-source version so I don't know much about the price of this solution."
  • "The solution is free and open-source."
  • "As far as I know, Weka is a freeware tool, and I am not aware if they have an online solution or if it is a commercial product."
  • "We use the free version now. My faculty is very small."

    Overview

Splunk User Behavior Analytics is a behavior-based threat detection is based on machine learning methodologies that require no signatures or human analysis, enabling multi-entity behavior profiling and peer group analytics for users, devices, service accounts and applications. It detects insider threats and external attacks using out-of-the-box purpose-built that helps organizations find known, unknown and hidden threats, but extensible unsupervised machine learning (ML) algorithms, provides context around the threat via ML driven anomaly correlation and visual mapping of stitched anomalies over various phases of the attack lifecycle (Kill-Chain View). It uses a data science driven approach that produces actionable results with risk ratings and supporting evidence that increases SOC efficiency and supports bi-directional integration with Splunk Enterprise for data ingestion and correlation and with Splunk Enterprise Security for incident scoping, workflow management and automated response. The result is automated, accurate threat and anomaly detection.

Weka is a collection of machine learning algorithms for data mining tasks. The algorithms can either be applied directly to a dataset or called from your own Java code. Weka contains tools for data pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, association rules, and visualization. It is also well-suited for developing new machine learning schemes.
