Overall, I would evaluate the Microsoft support level that I receive at probably about a seven, but that depends on the day. It has been spotty. We have had issues where the urgency level of the Microsoft support is not as high as ours, especially during a data breach or potential data breach situation. We have had issues with some of the offshore support being lackluster. One specific thing that comes to mind is we were on a support call with our CISO on the call, and the Microsoft agent, who did not actually work for Microsoft, is one of the vendors that Microsoft uses for support, said, "Just to set expectations, my lunch break is in an hour and I am going to go away then." For us, it was already ten o'clock at night and we had been working on this for a couple of hours, trying to get a security engineer on with us. For him to tell us that he was going to go away and have lunch, it was, "Okay, but go find somebody else if you need to." It was just the lackluster approach, and it seemed like he did not really care. We seem to get a lot of this when we get non-Microsoft support. I can identify areas for improvement with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, as it is kind of a convoluted mess to try to take care of false positives. Especially when they have been identified as false positives but they keep going off over and over again. It is great for my pocketbook because it generates a lot of on-call action, but I would really prefer more sleep at two o'clock in the morning than dealing with false positives. I would say that the unified portal for managing Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is suitable for both teams as they are all in there. It would be great if they would stop moving things around and renaming things, which makes sense. The new XDR portal is pretty nice. Being able to have it central again inside of the regular Security Center without having to open up two windows is helpful. Overall, I think it is pretty good. There is always going to be something that could be improved, such as alerting and the ability to modify alerts would be a little bit helpful to have. Being able to add more data into the alerts and turn off alerts that are not as useful would be beneficial. It is hard to say what the quantitative impact the security exposure management feature has had on our company's security, because a lot of it is kind of subjective. I think we are sitting at around a fifty percent score still, and a lot of it is just kind of unusual circumstances that we cannot really implement without breaking the organization.

User-friendly solution with good blocking
I mainly use Security Premium as an antivirus.  Security Premium's best features are blocking, notifications, and the user interface. Security Premium's cost could be lower. I've been using Security Premium for a year. Security Premium is stable - I haven't faced any issues or bugs while using…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The price of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is reasonable, as other solutions, such as ClowdStrike, are more expensive."
"The most valuable features of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint are the ease of use and it was available within the operating system."
"The intelligence mechanisms are good."
"The threat hunting service is very useful for a security professional."
"The most valuable feature is that we can use the solution right out of the box without too much configuration."
"What I found most valuable in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is that it's out-of-the-box, which brings more value to the customer. The technical support for the product is also one of the best parts, because it's good, in terms of the product knowledge of the technical engineers."
"We used CrowdStrike but we switched to Microsoft because of the price."
"Defender is an ideal solution for web security."
"Norton Security Premium is good, and it's pretty simple to install."
"We tried a few: Kaspersky, Trend Micro, we used McAfee, we used Norton; we tried them all on our entire fleet of computers, and we realized that in terms of ease of use and resource consumption, Norton is something that is acceptable to us."
"With the heightened security around phishing, identity theft, and malware, this is a good product."
"The internet security was a plus, and it's pretty good."
"We like how it can check for issues. That includes files and web browsers."
"When I'm using the solution in my personal space, I can see that it secures my laptop, it works fast, and it actually does what I want."
"The most valuable feature is the multifunctional protection."
"The ransomware protection that they have now is worth considering."

Cons

"Additional security would be beneficial."
"In India at least, it seems to be a bit more expensive than other options."
"Right now, the solution provides some recommendations on the dashboard but we don't have any priorities; it's a mix of all the vulnerabilities and all the security recommendations, and I would like to see some priority or categorization of high, medium, and low so that we can fix the high ones first."
"Lacks some additional integration."
"The dashboards could be better."
"Initially, I experienced performance issues that hampered our servers. However, after setting appropriate exclusions, everything seemed to work fine."
"Where we stand right now, compared to other products that are there in the market, they still have to work on their threat intelligence and the overall maturity of detecting the malware."
"When compared with other vendors, the pricing is very high."
"They say Norton Security Premium is an all-in-one solution, but we don't know exactly what's in it, e.g. they didn't make an effort to explain the difference between a virus scan and a ransomware scan."
"The product is an antivirus, it should be updated automatically when needed."
"As far as improvement to the product, perhaps the price could be better."
"The only problem with Norton Antivirus is that it consumes a lot of resources like CPU and memory in the background."
"The only problem with Norton Antivirus is that it consumes a lot of resources like CPU and memory in the background. Whenever it's scanning, my laptop becomes very slow, and the worst part is you cannot do anything about it. As this product is secured by my local IT team, you cannot even kill that process, and that's what I've felt about many other antivirus solutions. I'm using McAfee for personal use, and I have the same problem."
"During scanning, sometimes, there is a heavy load on the workstation. This needs to be improved."
"The solution can improve the security modules."
"Sometimes the program is too complex, and simplifying it might be an improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solutions price could be cheaper."
"There is no licensing fee."
"It is built into Windows 10. If our clients are using Microsoft Defender, the cost goes away for them."
"Pricing can always be lower."
"AV solutions are pretty expensive because they are necessary, not just for protection, but many businesses need them to comply with regulatory bodies and receive accreditation. We recently purchased an E5 license, which gives us access to the entire Microsoft suite. I would say the pricing is competitive; most tools of this kind are similarly priced. There are minor differences between the competitors, but they aren't spectacularly different. Defender for Endpoint makes sense because all our solutions are in the same place, paid for with a single license. The subscription price is around £50 per user per month, though it may have increased slightly."
"I don't know the standalone costs. It is my understanding that the M365 E5 is $56 a month or something close to that pricing. That would be for the full suite. Just Defender might be $8 a month. I can't say for sure."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint can be costly as a standalone solution."
"Buying individual point products would've cost us a lot more money than one integrated solution that also capitalizes on Teams Voice and things of that nature. Given our size, buying individual products would have easily cost us a million dollars."
"I don't pay for a license."
"Pricing for this software is competitive."
"The solution gives the value for the money."
"Security Premium costs around US$100 for three years, which is a little expensive."
"The licensing fee for this solution is not expensive."
"Security Premium is highly-priced."
"As I have been a long-time customer, I was given a fair price of $49.95 per month for the first four to six months."
"If they could come down in price that would be good. It's not exactly the lowest."
