Cisco's powerful sensor stops threats and attacks related to network traffic (not operating system and application)
-Limited reporting capability based on platform and definition file. Also consider more latency and delay when using IPS as it has to analyze the traffic and then take action which in return adds delay to the network. -It lacks the capability to detect operating system attacks despite the fact that software based IPS does.

Leveraging geo-tagging and web filtering for enhanced network security
The solution is used for site-to-site VPN connections and it is valued for its cost efficiency and easy connectivity. It is especially beneficial for multi-site VPNs and is used in about fifteen different components KerioControl has provided a financial benefit as it allows purchasing one license…

Has offered reliable threat protection and detailed network insights but could expand features beyond existing capabilities
The best features of Trellix Intrusion Prevention System include advanced ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which uses signatures, behavior analysis, and machine learning to stop zero-day exploits and malware advanced persistent threats (APTs). They track and collect data from APTs, which allows them to track malicious files entering the environment. The system offers inline prevention and real-time automatic blocking of malicious packets before they reach the network. It integrates with the Trellix ecosystem and provides application visibility and control. The solution provides deep insight into network traffic, applications, and protocols for better information. All packets coming through the application are analyzed and reported. They share intelligence updates regularly to protect from different malicious files and sector-specific threats. It supports both on-premise and cloud environments.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It protects the network from several network attacks, for example DDOS, SQL injections, botnets."
"A great advantage: It stops trigger packets and can use stream normalization techniques."
"Our clients see ROI with Kerio Control, as they are saving bandwidth costs."
"The ease of use in the GUI itself is the most valuable feature. The GUI is really the best part of it. We like the traffic rules so we can control who can get to what. It's easy to determine the flow of the traffic itself so we aren't having to guess through command lines and reading out basically command-driven output. It's just a very easy-to-use interface. The interface is the best part of the product."
"The most valuable feature is to provide users with the ability to log in to the portal page, keep track of their data usage and perform bandwidth management."
"We have many customer sites and the solution gives us control over bandwidth internet."
"It just works, it does what it is meant to do."
"The most valuable features of Kerio Control are the IPS and traffic rules, the traffic rules are very user-friendly and the IPS is working well, and additionally, the anti-virus is effective with quick options, such as filtering."
"From the old way we used to do things, it is night and day, and the efficiency has doubled."
"I haven't found another product that is able to do the things that Kerio Control can do for the money."
"The solution can scale."
"It works very well overall, and is excellent for enterprise-level businesses."
"The feature I found most valuable is the network threat analyzer in the security platform. It also integrates with GTI, or Global Threat Intelligence. Otherwise, I just use the basic features."
"The best features of Trellix Intrusion Prevention System include advanced ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which uses signatures, behavior analysis, and machine learning to stop zero-day exploits and malware advanced persistent threats (APTs)."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"Great monitoring feature."
"It improved my security by stopping an attack to the signature base, or the behavior base."
"It's definitely more effective compared to the next-generation firewall that has a built-in IPS."

Cons

"It lacks the capability to detect operating system attacks despite the fact that software based IPS does."
"Security wise this product is the best IPS system but we have seen that due to its DPI it tends to slow the network down."
"The stability is pretty good. I've only had one issue with it before. It was set to update on its own, and it didn't update and the update failed, so it didn't come back on for some reason."
"When we did our last update, we had some trouble with the initial syncing process to get our messaging to go through. But we were also moving a store and a lot was changing during that process. I don't think it was on Kerio's end. It just coincided with the update. Once we got our third-party IT guy involved it was resolved very quickly."
"The product's technical support is not good as it used to be."
"The only issue that we had is when they changed versions, they removed a security feature and blocked out all the old VPN connections."
"We'd like to have more integrations Kerio Operator."
"The reporting needs to be improved. It is hard to get a domain."
"The security part of the software, like virus scanning, website, traffic monitoring, things like that, can take a beating on the appliance. And when there's a lot of things going on, the system can get bogged down. The actual security functionality of it needs a little bit more work, which I believe they are remedying or attempting to remedy at this time, but that's the downfall at this time."
"Improvements are needed to the Next Generation Firewall Protection, specifically with user-level protection."
"There are limited resources for configuration guidance."
"I haven't seen threat intelligence and machine learning for predictive threat analysis in the Trellix Intrusion Prevention System yet."
"The technical support has room for improvement."
"Currently, the settings and confirmations on the McAfee console are complex and complicated for our branches."
"The management component could be simplified."
"Integration with Global Thereat Intelligence could be better. Also, I think management solutions are end of life now at McAfee. Network threat analyzer may be used for endpoint quarantines. Integration between these sides, as well as endpoint APO, will help you quarantine the risky endpoints."
"The solution needs to improve the graphical interface. And they had a limitation in some of the sensor modems as well."
"The management console needs to be less complex and easier to navigate."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It's very affordable."
"It's pretty expensive in licensing costs, especially if you use the product longer than one or two years. The licensing costs are still high, which I don't think is reasonable for a product like this."
"My advice is to use your own hardware, and do not use theirs."
"The biggest advice that I could probably give people is when you buy the solution be prepared to either buy the unlimited license or buy more licenses than you think. Each user license gives you one employee and each a user gives you five devices. In the world nowadays where everybody has a cellphone, tablet, desktop, and laptop, that's four devices. You still get one more device per person. That covers your servers and back-ends."
"I am living in Iran and we cannot buy the product from Kerio because of sanctions."
"On the low-end device that I use, it has unlimited IP addresses. So, they have a subscription model where, on the higher models, you pay X dollars for 10 IP addresses. Then, if you want any more, you have to pay more on the model. On the low-end model, it has unlimited IP addresses, because if you have too many users, the thing will just slow you down and stop working. At some point, you need to say, "Okay, I've grown to a point where performance is impacted. I need to get some bigger hardware." If I get to that stage, I will possibly look at using one of the virtual appliances and putting it on some bigger hardware."
"KerioControl's pricing is reasonable. The license for KerioControl is annual. It's difficult to specify an exact cost since it varies depending on the number of users and additional software combined with it. For example, a basic box might cover 25 users, but licenses can be purchased starting from 10 users."
"KerioControl's pricing is good."
"The tool is competitively priced."
"I rate the product’s pricing an eight out of ten."
