We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The log query feature has been the most valuable because it's very good. You can put your data on the cloud and run queues from Sentinel. It will do it all very fast. I love that I don't have to upload it to an Excel file and then manually look for a piece of information. Sentinel is much faster and is good for big databases.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""The ability of all these solutions to work together natively is essential. We have an Azure subscription, including Log Analytics. This feature automatically acts as one of the security baselines and detects recommendations because it also integrates with Defender. We can pull the sysadmin logs from Azure. It's all seamless and native.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""It is always correlating to IOCs for normal attacks, using Azure-related resources. For example, if any illegitimate IP starts unusual activity on our Azure firewall, then it automatically generates an alarm for us.""The solution offers a lot of data on events. It helps us create specific detection strategies.""We have no complaints about the features or functionality.""The most valuable features are its threat handling and detection. It's a powerful tool because it's based on machine learning and on the behavior of malware."

"Gurucul Next Gen SIEM stands out for its user-friendliness, making it accessible to business users.""The customization of reporting rules, reporting configuration, and alerting configuration are good."

More Gurucul Next Gen SIEM Pros →

"The most valuable feature is the flexible log for identifying security threats inside an application. Sentinel is very good at this.""The solution lets us get all the logs properly and regularly monitor customer infrastructure.""The native integration with out-of-the box format is hassle free and allows data to be used advantageously.""It makes everything easier by automating some tasks and growing with our needs.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that it provides a central locking system for many event sources.""The solution's Kusto Query Language (KQL) execution time is pretty good.""The tool is simple to use.""The stability is phenomenal and we never had any issues with downtime or even had to restart."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in entity behavior and the integration site.""There is some relatively advanced knowledge that you have to have to properly leverage Sentinel's full capabilities. I'm thinking about things like the creation of workbooks, how you do threat-hunting, and the kinds of notifications you're getting... It takes time for people to ramp up on that and develop a familiarity or expertise with it.""Documentation is the main thing that could be improved. In terms of product usage, the documentation is pretty good, but I'd like a lot more documentation on Kusto Query Language.""Sometimes, it is hard for us to estimate the costs of Microsoft Sentinel.""If I can use Sentinel offline at home and use it on a local network, it would be great. I'm not sure if I can use Sentinel offline versus the tools I have.""The only thing is sometimes you can have a false positive.""Microsoft Sentinel should provide an alternative query language to KQL for users who lack KQL expertise.""The interface could be more user-friendly. It''s a small improvement that they could make if they wanted to."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The user interface could be made simpler.""I would like Gurucul to identify the use cases that have already been reviewed by someone when detection occurs."

More Gurucul Next Gen SIEM Cons →

"I would like to see a better reporting work structure on the dashboard.""There is a need for more flexibility in customization, especially when working with different vendors and platforms.""The dashboard and customer view should be improved""This product's connection to certain types of cloud systems could be improved. We can do Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, but there are a lot of other things happening in the cloud that we do not connect well enough to. This product could be improved with better connection to cloud-based solutions.""Creating a drag-and-drop dashboard or workbook in Sentinel is a little more complex compared to other tools like LogRhythm and IBM QRadar.""You need a lot of Unix scripting knowledge in order to manage the tool, which is one of the main issues that we faced.""I rate Sentinel a six out of ten for scalability.""There is no integration in the web-side of the tool."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "We inquired about getting support from the vendor, Micro Focus, but the cost was very high."
  • "We receive a pricing discount because of our ongoing partnership with Micro Focus."
  • "Sentinel's slightly on the expensive side."
  • "The solution’s pricing is aligned with its competitors."
  • "Sentinel is a subscription-based solution."
  • "Sentinel is moderately priced."
