The auto-scaling feature ensures that we only use resources when needed
The most valuable aspect of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) is its managed nature, which significantly reduces the burden on our platform team. Features like auto-scaling are highly beneficial for both handling traffic spikes and optimizing costs. Furthermore, Google's promise of good SLA availability, with the service being available in different locations, adds to its robustness.

High availability and self-healing mechanisms ensure seamless production builds
The most useful feature of Mirantis Container Cloud ( /products/mirantis-container-cloud-reviews ) for our container management is Kubernetes ( /products/kubernetes-reviews ). It provides a cluster, high availability, and a self-healing mechanism. Its multi-cluster management capability enhances our operational efficiency as it is easy to use, and every deployment is from the CI/CD, which automatically builds and deploys without human interference, reducing our deployment time to a few seconds.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"GKE's plugin management and configuration sync are excellent features. The amount of data it provides is good, and I've been able to integrate it with the things I need."
"Google Kubernetes Engine is used for orchestrating Docker containers. We have 30 or 40 customers working with this solution now. We'll probably see 10 to 15 percent growth in the number of customers using Google Kubernetes Engine in the future."
"The solution is available across AWS, GCP and Azure and is seamless."
"The initial setup was very easy because it's like a Google platform as a service. It's just one button to set it up. The deployment took only a few minutes."
"GKE is easier to understand and use than Elastic Kubernetes Service."
"The scalability is the best feature."
"The solution simplified deployment, making it more automated. Previously, Docker required manual configuration, often done by developers on their computers. However, with Google Kubernetes Engine, automation extends to configuration, deployment, scalability, and viability, primarily originating from Docker rather than Kubernetes. Its most valuable feature is the ease of configuration."
"Its functionalities, such as computing the namespaces, clusters, pods, and restart logs, are easy to use."
"I think the volume binding is a really interesting feature."
"Mirantis Container Cloud operates similarly to how we interact with databases. It provides a comprehensive platform for deploying and managing containerized applications across cloud environments."
"The initial setup was really easy and the deployment was fast and straightforward."
"Mirantis Container Cloud provides significant features such as real-time vulnerability scanning and patching for container images and Kubernetes components, reducing security risks."
"Now it is easier to set up the development environment and also to test the applications on the pipelines."
"The product is easy to use."
"The UI is very useful."
"This solution has cut down on our development time and allows us to spin off new instances for inner development, testing, productions, and security testing."

Cons

"The user interface is a bit confusing sometimes. You need to navigate between the various consoles we have. It's hard to figure out where things are. It's frustrating. The documentation could be a bit better."
"One of the things I missed a bit is the visibility and availability of solutions. If I compare it to a different solution, it is a bit behind."
"An area in which Google Kubernetes Engine could improve is configuration."
"While the GKE cluster is secure, application-level security is an essential aspect that needs to be addressed. The security provided by GKE includes the security of communication between nodes within the cluster and the basic features of Kubernetes security. However, these features may not be sufficient for the security needs of an enterprise. Additional security measures must be added to ensure adequate protection. It has become a common practice to deploy security tools within a Kubernetes cluster. It would be ideal if these tools were included as part of the package, as this is a standard requirement in the industry. Thus, application-level security should be integrated into GKE for improved security measures."
"The management UI could be improved."
"The network configuration has to be simplified."
"There is room for improvement in the cluster updates process. Specifically, when managing both non-production and production clusters, we need a sequential functionality."
"Log observability could be made easier so someone from high school can use it without having technological expertise."
"I find Docker easier to use, but I gave it to an inexperienced developer and it took him a lot of time to understand."
"This solution is open-source and they need to focus on improving the Linux Operating Systems' GUI. It does not have a GUI making it not user-friendly. Additionally, the containers need to improve security and compliance."
"More integrations with other platforms would be beneficial."
"With the Mirantis runtime being removed from Kubernetes, which is the industry-wide standard for orchestration of containers, I think it's going in a direction that is not super scalable."
"Sometimes the basic support is a bit difficult if you have a firewall and cloud servers behind the firewall and then try to implement the backup solution, it is a bit difficult to do by yourself."
"The orchestration and tracing should be improved."
"Mirantis Container Cloud could improve in simplifying security and compliance management, particularly in vulnerability scanning and patching."
"In my previous years, I have brainstormed about the development of Container software. I have recently shifted focus, but the knowledge gained from those were really helpful. In my experience, Containers have their own complexities and to implement them, open source information is crucial. A software with new features would be beneficial. I suggest to implement a flow-based approach for container sequences, similar to Google Cloud's machine learning. The current process of deploying containers involves too many steps, and a more streamlined method would be appreciated. I've even automated deployment using APIs. Overall, simplifying container management and deployment processes would be valuable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is a little bit expensive."
"This is an open source solution, so there is no pricing or licensing."
"Pricing is a bit expensive compared to some other products, but it's acceptable."
"Currently, it costs around $1000 per month which sorted our deployment. So once we get more clients, having a huge suffix, costs can go up."
"Its pricing is good. They bill us only per user. That's nice."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"The pricing for GKE is dependent on the type of machine or virtual machine (VM) that is selected for the nodes in the cluster. There is a degree of flexibility in choosing the specifications of the machine, such as the number of CPUs, GPUs, and so on. Google provides a variety of options, allowing the user to create the desired cluster composition. However, the cost can be quite steep when it comes to regional clusters, which are necessary for high availability and failover. This redundancy is crucial for businesses and is required to handle an increase in requests in case of any issues in one region, such as jumping to a different region in case of a failure in the Toronto region. While it may be tempting to choose the cheapest type of machines, this may result in a limited capacity and user numbers, requiring over-provisioning to handle additional requests, such as those for a web application."
"We are planning to use external support, and hire a commercial partner for it."
"The solution is open-source and free to try."
"With open source, you can use Mirantis completely free."
"The product is not expensive."
"The pricing and licensing really depends on what your needs are. You could be paying $100 a month to $100,000. It depends on the needs you have from the solution, and the agreement you make."
"This solution is free."
"Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"It is more costly than other products, but it is worth every penny."
"I rate the product price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one means low price and ten means high price."
