Resilience has supported proactive management and secured audit readiness across multiple sites
The resilience in Dell PowerStore benefits my company from an auditing perspective because we know we have that resilience in place. I see Dell PowerStore playing a bigger role in the future because we are starting to use it more, and that is pushing it. The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerStore is scalability. Scalability is key. I can amplify that scalability is the biggest return on investment because we have redundancy between two sites; if something goes down, we have to manage it, but we want to do it proactively.

Standout features are real-time dashboards and powerful aggregation
This product has a powerful aggregating feature which is great. It also has its own APIs. Whenever the data comes in, it can be streamed out anywhere. It's the only solution that provides real-time dashboards. Tableau doesn't have this feature. The three variants of historical data, real-time data and predicted data from Spitfire, give more strength to LiveDatamart without any dependency on other products. The product is easy to set up with very low maintenance required.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The simplicity and ease of use have been very valuable features. I have a very small team, and only half of the team is well versed in the HP product. Whereas if I bring PowerStore in, everyone can learn it because it will be new on the floor."
"The most valuable feature is the functionality of the integration between the storage and the domain."
"With Dell PowerStore, we have achieved twenty percent savings compared to the previous solution."
"The most valuable features of PowerStore are its density and data reduction."
"To growth and business success, Dell PowerStore contributes definitely because the appliances have these expansion enclosures and scale-up and scale-out work pretty well with Dell PowerStore, up to a certain degree."
"We have seen the benefits of consolidation, compression, and reduction in overall storage, and all of our performance is now improved, and all of our customers are happy; they're not complaining anymore about performance."
"Dell PowerStore is meeting my needs and requirements; it is meeting my performance, read and write performance, for my enterprise-grade applications, and I am happy with the decision that we have taken and have worked with Dell PowerStore."
"The solution is resilient and reliable, the support is very good, it performs fast with excellent IOPS, and their deduplication and compression ratio features are excellent."
"The solution is mature and stable, even more so since it was acquired by TIBCO."
"The solution has a powerful aggregating feature"
"You can create your own rules that include mathematic calculations."
"The three variants of historical data, real-time data and predicted data from Spitfire, give more strength to LiveDatamart without any dependency on other products."

Cons

"One thing they need to work on is creating an app sync or the Metro Cluster functionality. Currently, it requires a different hop as we have to add multiple switches to build that functionality for replication from one data center to another. If that could be bundled in a base Dell PowerStore by default, it would be great."
"I would have preferred if Dell PowerStore could have a common operating system across all their products, as that would be of great advantage."
"In terms of improvement for Dell PowerStore, I think it would be good to integrate it with IBM workloads."
"Coordination is occasionally a challenge; involving intermediary partners can make the support process less direct and lead to setup hurdles."
"The UI should be a little more user-friendly to manage."
"Personally, I feel that Dell PowerStore is a little bit costly in the market compared to other products, but this is just my personal perspective."
"There is an issue with Dell PowerStore related to future expansions which are software-related."
"The price of Dell EMC PowerStore could be better, it is a bit expensive."
"The solution's setup could be quicker and easier."
"Improvements need to be made on the load balancing side."
"Live Datamart runs on JVM which only holds Java and only 60 GB of data. If you try to get more out of it than that, it crashes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When we compared it with the other solutions, the pricing of PowerStore was equal. The pricing is good."
"It is easy to work with Dell from the licensing perspective."
"The price of Dell PowerStore could improve. The price should be managed more compared to Huawei Dorado or IBM All-Flash series."
"We only have a single machine and we are currently using half of the hard disk slots. We have asked for an upgrade for the rest of the hard disks but, from my point of view, it costs too much. We have 12 to 15 hard disks inside and if we try to upgrade only the hard disks, it costs the same as the complete system. This is something I don't understand."
"HCL Tech has a TLA with Dell, so in terms of price point, we are very competitive. Based on my experience, the cost of Dell PowerStore for around 500 GB of capacity is very competitive compared to any other platform in the market."
"We are currently using Dell PowerStore for our smaller storage and there is no competition for pricing."
"Licensing is very simple. Everything is included in the basic license. There are no concerns about having to pay to add a feature. Everything is there."
"Dealing with the licensing part of the product is very simple, especially considering the fact that we don't have many licenses associated with the tool."
"The solution might be considered a bit expensive because it competes with open-source products."
