High-density servers have maximized compute efficiency and have powered critical workloads reliably
Regarding how Dell PowerEdge C- Series can be improved, I would highlight a couple of areas. While it's excellent for dense and scale-out workloads, it isn't perfect for every scenario, and the complex I/O and component upgrades pose challenges since each server node is compressed into a narrow removable sled, making physical space inside the node tight. Replacing components requires pulling the entire node out and dismantling the protective casing. PCI expansion is also limited compared to standard 2U single-node servers such as the PowerEdge R700 series, which can hold up to eight PCI slots. Dell PowerEdge C- Series typically supports only two to three slots, restricting the addition of multiple specialized network interface cards. Finally, the initial capital expenditure is heavy; acquiring a PowerEdge C chassis and its multiple sleds requires significant upfront commitment, making it less cost-efficient if you need one or two nodes now, as you generally need to commit to the ecosystem upfront.

Where I have not really enjoyed is the flexibility of doing things. You are just in a straitjacket with what they give you. The flexibility of doing things is limited compared to other platforms. The backup and restore features on that module were a bit old. I couldn't create a snapshot and provision a server in minutes. The VM features that I can use now easily were not that easy with HPE Integrity and were not even available for us. I had a lot of interaction with HPE Integrity and wanted to move to a different platform for a different experience. I did not see any products matching the Dell PowerFlex environment in terms of server capabilities when it comes to HPE Integrity. We are now using Oracle products and Oracle Data Guard. Oracle on HPE Integrity was a bit more difficult because you have to get separate patches, separate tunables, and separate kernel settings for HPE Integrity. Everything was so proprietary on HPE Integrity, making it difficult to have one solution. The Dell Linux environment with Oracle Linux OS now will be much easier.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution provides good support and service."
"The best features of this solution are that it's easy to implement and manage, and I assess the balance of performance, flexibility, and scalability provided by this solution as good."
"The solution's ease of use is its most valuable aspect for our organization, with user-friendly management, very good security, fair pricing, and useful new features added with every release."
"The security of the product is very good."
"The most significant benefits, in my experience, are the configuration, reliability of the equipment, and the support of Dell."
"I appreciate the reliability, as they perform exceptionally well and we never experience any issues with them."
"Dell PowerEdge C- Series has positively impacted our organization; due to hardware reduction, we have significantly decreased the infrastructure capital because a single 2U chassis houses up to four independent server nodes, effectively reducing the number of physical racks, PDUs, or the top-of-rack switch we need to buy."
"Technical support has been helpful."
"It's a very good product to use for medium-sized companies."
"It is very fast and easy to use."
"The Integrity is the most reliable server that I have."
"It's very reliable, efficient, and strong, and at the time that we used it, it was scalable so we were able to put as much CPU as I wanted up to 64."
"The Integrity series combined with the software layer presents an excellent Mission Critical landscape that brings simplicity in a complex landscape to the foreground."
"The benefit provided by the solution for my organization stems from the fact that it provides maximum reliability and availability to users."
"It just keeps on going; we don't have any problems with any HPE equipment, to be fair."
"HPE Integrity is a mission-critical server, and we are using it for our SAP; we require zero downtime, which is why it is typically used in environments like banks or air traffic control where the downtime requirement is absolute zero."

Cons

"Although Dell PowerEdge C- Series excels at high-density computing, it has major compromises that prevent it from achieving a perfect score."
"It would be better if it worked with SMTP servers on the cloud. Right now, it only allows notifications via the SMTP server. In the next release, I would like to have a better processor."
"Cost is an important factor needing improvement. The pricing of PowerEdge solutions is very high nowadays."
"The solution’s pricing could be cheaper."
"The product’s pricing could be a little cheaper."
"The product’s cost needs improvement."
"There is some trouble with the stability part of the product, making it an area where improvements are required."
"For Dell specifically, I would say they are losing a little bit of the edge in consumer relations compared to what I see around the industry."
"HPE Integrity needs improvement in terms of pricing for scalability."
"The manageability must be improved."
"HPE Integrity is a pain. HPE hasn't put much work into developing the solution in the past few years because it will be discontinued soon."
"I don't know if Integrity will survive too much because if the Itanium processors are not going to be supportive anymore, I think in the midterm (4 or 5 years), Integrity's going to be replaced by another product line."
"Don't do it. Go x86."
"Pricing is very high. It should be less."
"With the announcement last year from Hewlett-Packard Enterprise that they are no longer supporting Itanium 2 processors, which means HP-UX is going to die soon in a couple of years."
"The quantity of the processor from Integrity, because at this moment there's a limit."

"HPE Integrity's pricing could be better."
"The price is not very expensive."
