Great at showcasing vulnerabilities, excellent at providing alerts, and offers very good technical support
You need to know how to work with your assets and put the right items in place. The solution still has false positives, The solution is pretty expensive :O) We did have a few bugs in the beginning, when we first used the solution. However, those have since been resolved. I would like it if there was more visibility and insights about what's going on with ransomware all over the internet. IntSights is not 100% following the critical ransomware and the critical items over the internet. However, everyone is afraid to get hit by ransomware. They are not there yet in terms of really covering that style of attack. I'd like to see more from them.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's great at alerting users to attempts at phishing and suspicious domains."
"Any unusual behaviour, we can monitor. We have alerts set up to be sent when we receive signs of any unusual behaviour."
"It has streamlined log aggregation and analysis to meet organizational and regulatory needs."
"This solution can completely detect and prevent incidents on your network."
"Asset discovery and vulnerability scanner are good features. The integration between this solution and OTX, which is an AlienVault platform for Open Threat Exchange, is also a valuable feature. It is also quick and easy to deploy, so you can quickly engage with a customer's environment."
"The pricing is amazing and really cheap."
"The best feature of this product is the ease of use. It is extremely easy to set up and get going. This is a very useful tool for a small organization."
"On any given day I could give you a different answer regarding the most valuable features of the product. The feature that is most important is the fact that it has a lot of features, that it's not just a log collection and correlation system, that it has a lot of other components built in. The bundle of features is really the killer feature."
"The other big selling feature for us was its integration capabilities with all the other security-based products."

Cons

"The solution still has a lot of false positives."
"The lack of mature functionality and expertise in any of those areas is a strong negative."
"The only room for improvement I can mention is the initial installation procedures. I found that the online installation instructions for the product were missing important details, they lacked necessary steps."
"The UI and overall processes need a little bit more love. This shows in the error banners that come up when you select certain things. There isn't a day that goes by that the UI doesn't error out and I can't view events for an alarm."
"Adding a parsing interface for the customers would make AT&T AlienVault USM better."
"The AT&T AlienVault USM is okay, but the relational database is not very good for large amounts of data. For example, many logs cannot be processed. It has been very slow for the queries and some data which are large, it is not very good in this case."
"I've been told that AlienVault doesn't have a full version of NES running in there, but I'm not sure if that's accurate or if my engineer made it that way. I'm not sure he was completely honest either because we had NES in the environment before. Those tools could be improved because AlienVault is a SIEM, and it added all these other features."
"There are scalability issues due to a 60 TB limit, which restricts its use for large customers like banks."
"Windows log collection works with HIDS, but documentation is sparse and confusing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The price point is good."
"I don't think the product's pricing is a good value because they try to raise the price 50 percent every year... AlienVault needs to understand that not all customers are huge enterprises... Their sales team is way too aggressive. The price they advertise is not always the price you get."
"It's very reasonably priced. It was one of the lowest among the ones I looked at. Licensing is pretty flexible. They can do a two-year or a three-year, even a one-year, perhaps."
"The ROI is quite good."
"The price of this solution is reasonable, which is one of the reasons why we selected it over other solutions."
"Use an MSSP instead. It is much cheaper."
"I rate the price of AT&T AlienVault USM a four out of five."
"Its price is in the medium to upper range."
