A good solution that can be used for storage, but its performance, configuration, and pricing could be improved
We use IBM Storage Insights for storage and management The most valuable features of IBM Storage Insights are the server and storage. The solution's performance, configuration, and pricing could be improved. I have been using IBM Storage Insights for four to five years. The solution's…

Manageable and comprehensive and integrates robust backup features for core banking
It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum. This is why I am searching for another solution. The product also lacks any centralized graphical user interface (GUI), such as Jarek Pod, and I am limited to using a console-based text user interface, which my local partner handles completely.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of IBM Storage Insights are the server and storage."
"The solution offers very good flexibility."
"High availability (HA): It is one of the best features."
"It is a very good and mature enterprise product. Once it is set up and everything is put in, you don't have to manage it. It actually runs automatically by itself."
"The best point about IBM Storage Protect is that it can use IBM tape environments, which we still use and will continue to use in the future."
"It saves you a lot of storage."
"Regarding stability, it's been rock solid."
"It is a very stable product. The cost is similar to that of other enterprise solutions."
"Forever incremental - allows TSM to optimize storage needs."

Cons

"The solution's performance, configuration, and pricing could be improved."
"The solution is evolving, so it has to be evolved to fit all new types of software requirements too."
"Most customers still struggle with the reporting piece, especially generating reports. I think it needs some improvements in this area."
"RTO is a huge gap for us. If we had a disaster scenario and had to recover a bunch of stuff from tape, the RTO would be too long for us."
"It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum."
"Replication services would be nice. If these could be enhanced to be always on so multiple storage backup services could be added as a cluster pool. This would provide a better availability service."
"It does not do too well in our virtual environment."
"They need to do a better job on Windows, because if you are running Windows, the scalability is more limited than AIX and Linux."
"The features should be a little bit closer together."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM Storage Insights is cheaper than other products."
"The solution has a capacity based licensing, front and back-end license."
"Regarding retro-compatibility of the product between versions, your data is always available and the ROI is unquestionable."
"It is really expensive. Its price is not good for Latin America. Its price is good for the United States or Europe."
"Customers need to pay for licensing in order to use IBM Spectrum Protect. The customers that have been using it for a long time are okay and happy with it. From a cost point of view, it's better for them to renew their licenses than to go through the difficult process of changing a backup product in their environment, and migrate from one product to another."
"Its licensing is complex, and its price is not really reasonable. It is on the expensive side. IBM, in general, is slightly expensive, but with IBM Spectrum for the virtual environment, they are looking into the aspect of helping customers with the cost and providing a cost-effective solution."
"Licensing can be either complicated or simple depending on what type of licensing you wish to use and what works best for your environment."
"The licensing fees are between $8,000 and $10,000 per year."
"At scale, the consumption license (per TB) is very expensive."
