The solution has important reverse engineering features, but it needs a single sign-on feature
With ER/Studio, the roadmap to send us new versions with the new database is slow. I think it could allow us to test and use new database versions faster. Sometimes we get new functionalities like, for example, the Collibra integration. We receive these new functionalities, and sometimes we start to test them and we find errors that we need to correct by talking with tech support. I think they allow functionalities to be released before the full tests for catching and correcting errors are completed. My other point is about the team server. We're using the web portal, and the interface is not so good. The client was modified, and we have the new version. It's good. The client is good to us, but the web portal is using the old UI. It's not as modern, and it's limited. We found that the new version is slow when compared to the older version. We are trying to investigate what component is causing the slowness, because you have the client access, the repository, the API, the team server, and the web portal. Getting a single sign-on feature is very important to us.

Useful in managing artifacts but the integration capabilities are flaky
We use iServer to manage our artifacts and governance Central repository holding single version of truth. We really like the governance. The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios. The existing capabilities have integration with the office, and it's…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the solution to create data models which describe our company's data architecture"
"The data modeling and reverse engineering features are most important to us."
"Modeling with Data Architect: We can quickly reverse-engineer a database from an existing database or create a model from scratch."
"Data lineage tracking: It allows us to identify upstream and downstream systems using data."
"Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful."
"We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify."
"The most valuable features are... those that enable me to represent the database to the development community and the business users."
"This application does a lot of things, as do competitor products, but the main reason to go with this product was the ability to create many automations, where we can improve our work and our process."
"This is a flexible tool compared to some other solutions."
"The solution has wide use within Microsoft products. The integration with Microsoft products, and, in particular, Microsoft Office, is great."
"The solution is easily modified to suit your needs."
"We like the governance."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Tech support is very responsive. They solved issues within a prompt response time."
"iServer is a solution that helps catalog enterprise architect solutions and catalog information."
"Good and effective reporting features, which help in decision making."

Cons

"What I would like to see improved is the reliability of the releases, releases that are a little less buggy."
"It would be helpful if they could create a generic JSON database type, as a target database, rather than a specific one like Mongo."
"One limitation I have found in ER/Studio is that when you want to make some changes to the table definitions, you have to go item by item. You cannot do it globally. Another issue concerns defining the foreign keys between the different tables. It is a little more tedious in the ER/Studio than in ERrwin. With ERwin it is direct."
"Tech support is a sticking point with me. I am really disappointed in the tech support. We pay for the Platinum level. It takes hours to get a response."
"The solution's reporting could be improved because the report writer is terrible."
"What needs the most improvement are semantic lineage and usability."
"We would always like to see Repository performance improve, checking in and checking out."
"When building the relationships there should be a little more flexibility."
"It definitely needs help to improve the visual aspect of the solution."
"We could allocate permissions to use only specific components to the users rather than the entire instance."
"There are other solutions out there that have a better user interface."
"Enhancing integration options with ERP or ITSM-related solutions for triggering automated requests for process definitions, changes, and tracking them in the iServer."
"The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios."
"The migration tool needs to be included in the main package, and not as a separate license."
"I haven't used this solution long enough to know what areas could be improved."
"It runs relatively slowly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm a firm believer that all software is overpriced these days but, comparatively speaking, I think ER/Studio is worth the money."
"I use the product's trial version."
"As an individual user, the renewal is a little costly."
"At my previous company using ER/Studio, a database compare took four hours before using the product and 15 minutes after using the product."
"The price of this product is okay."
"Pricing is on point, but do your due diligence - not every developer needs the tool."
"Pricing is expensive and on the higher-end."
"It is priced fairly. It's around the same as erwin and other competitors' costs."
"The product has a moderate pricing."
"It's about 13K to set up and 9K for the license for three months. I think it's about 20K a year, but we haven't firmed up on pricing yet because the price depends on how long we commit to the solution."
"They offer annual subscriptions for developing countries, which are not affordable for small or medium businesses."
"Aim for the exact number of people who shall define/review approve and view the processes, as it will impact the cost."
"The price of iServer is reasonable compared to other solutions."
