User-friendly interface simplifies project management but it requires stable connectivity
We primarily use monday.com for project management within our department, which includes sales, operations, and engineering monday.com makes it very easy to input any information. The style and format are user-friendly, making it practical for our needs despite some network issues. The need for…

A solution that gives you all the information you need to plan detailed projects
The initial setup was just a little complex. I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten. Deploying the solution took two weeks. While deploying the solution, we had two instances, one for the IT team and one for the business team. And we had to connect the two and explain things to the team. Only two people were needed to deploy the solution, me and another person.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The way it allows our team to communicate with each other and keep each other up to date on many ongoing assignments at once through comments and the subitems feature is very helpful."
"We can have different boards for different needs."
"The global search is the solution's most valuable aspect."
"Items and boards are ideal as they help in keeping everything in a single location without any confusion."
"Monday has been really beneficial in allowing us to place all of our records in one place."
"The most valuable aspect is tagging certain employees for certain tasks."
"It has allowed our small team of five to deliver more projects on time and with quality as well as instill trust with clients that their projects do not fall through the cracks."
"It keeps everyone on the same page and gives us a way to streamline our projects and client communication."
"I like that everyone is able to see the same data. All of our users who aren't just time reporters have read access to all the data that is out there. So, it is one source of truth where everybody can go in and see the exact same data that everybody else sees. It is transparent."
"Another good thing is that we can create custom reports, which is great. If I created a custom report, a tile that tells me how many people have logged in today. We currently have a little under 2000 users, and that's only users, we actually have integrations, that we created a custom form that sends hours directly to Planview. They're not using Planview directly, but they're sending their hours to Planview through an API."
"It has been effective for our delivery. It's given us much better visibility into what is being delivered and when."
"I would say it works really well for forecasting remaining effort, especially in terms of forecasting the dollar amounts. We've gotten pretty good at adjusting rates because we have a lot of contract workers."
"We can view a project both at the top level and dig into the particularities. It's given us greater visibility into the work itself."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is reporting."
"We use time reporting. We convert time reporting into financial costs and do contractor and capacity planning for our resources. We track our work. So, that's the module we use extensively. As a matter of fact, we have upwards of 300 open projects at this given moment. It is pretty close to 300 open activities that are working."
"The biggest impact has been the visibility into our IT assets."

Cons

"More demos on how to navigate and set up certain functions could be helpful."
"They should make it possible in the inbox to select all inbox updates and mark them as read."
"It would be nice to have more customization around the documents, such as different title headings, fonts, etc."
"There was one time that I had used CTRL + C to copy one of the text fields, and accidentally pasted it into all other rows/projects. I know there is an "undo" button you can click on for a few seconds, however, it would be helpful if you could undo it even after it's been a few minutes/hours."
"Perhaps a direct interface integration with social media channels would be ideal."
"Monday.com has tons of features and capabilities. However, you’ll need to upgrade your plan to actually benefit the most from these tools."
"I believe the reporting functionality could be improved on monday.com. While some reports are accessible, this area has room for enhancement. For example, including a Gantt chart in project planning would be valuable. This addition could make monday.com more competitive with tools like Microsoft Project. Overall, I think there's potential for improvement in the graphical interfaces and reports provided by monday.com."
"The system could collate information from other boards easier."
"Their off-shore support is something new that they're laying out and the team just needed some development in terms of skill and experience."
"One of the reasons why we've upgraded so many times is because of performance standards. We've just run into issues where we've had performance problems. Maybe they are not upgrading, but they're adding more horsepower. Then, we do go upgrade and lose that horsepower, which is frustrating from my perspective as an admin to lose that horsepower. Hopefully, that'll change."
"Its reporting needs to be improved. My main complaint when it comes to Planview is that it is good to maintain all the data but to actually use the information that is in it, you actually have to use a different tool. We use Power BI. So, we pull all the information, and then we use a Power BI dashboard to stage or look at the information."
"We don't use the Progression feature. We will use it at some point in time. Until then, we want to have a way to set time to help decide what's in the past, present, and future. It is one of the things we've been discussing with Planview."
"The biggest room for improvement are the scripted dialogues. The scripted dialogues are a logic that you set up to force a certain workflow or process to happen. It's very old in respect that there are no clauses that you can apply to that logic. That definitely can use a lot of room for improvement."
"We've been using it for a while, so it's about maturity. It's about being able to build out things in Agile groups and teams and some of that. Then really trying to drive into the direction of Lean Portfolio Management and more Agile program management, I think is where we're heading."
"The technical support is a little overworked. At least, they have been in the past year. We need them to focus on somethings from time to time. You can tell that they're really focusing on many things. It has gotten better, but I think they could still use some relief."
"The lack of templates harden the initial learning curve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing of monday.com is worth it."
"I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten."
"We tell others it's about $2200 for a ten-person plan and it can be adjusted; it's easy to scale."
"I wasn't involved with the licensing, but I believe it's negotiable."
"The solution is quite inexpensive. For example, we pay $8,500 for 75 users. It's somewhere around $100 a user, approximately."
"The product is not expensive."
"I think monday.com's paywalls are a little too high. Some basic features are locked behind the premium subscription. Some applications they offer within their subscription model are locked in an expensive package. These applications provide functionality that would benefit small teams, but it's too much money for a startup or a small business."
"The price is reasonable for the number of users we have."
"We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model."
"We have several hundred licenses. It costs us several hundred thousand dollars a year."
"Our licensing costs are about a quarter of a million dollars per year."
"I don't know about the actual pricing. I have not come across any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Our licensing fees are approximately $50,000 USD annually."
"I think all in we are at $33,000 a year and that includes Projectplace and Planview. We used to have the integration to JIRA, but we don't pay for that anymore."
"Our licensing costs are probably $150,000 to $180,000 a year with 270 licenses total."
"We are on the Flex licenses."
