Beneficial visuals, improved productivity, but setup could be easier
We use JIRA Portfolio to manage our program of work Since we have been using JIRA Portfolio it has improved our productivity and visibility. The most valuable feature of JIRA Portfolio is the visuals it provides rather than Kanban boarded tickets. I have been using JIRA Portfolio for…

A collaborative and customizable solution for managing your projects and day-to-day work
All the features are perfectly fine, but the main feature is that Projectplace has the functionality of Kanban board/Scrum board. So, you can monitor all your progress in a single place. You can monitor the activities given to the agile team, the agile processes that are followed, the activities in the backlog, and the activities that need to be done on priority. You can set the priorities, and, accordingly, you can monitor and track them. It is beneficial for day-to-day work. Another important feature is that its graphical user interface is fantastic. Its GUI is very good, and it is very easy to learn and work with. It does require some formal training, but after a few initial weeks, you get a hang of the solution. It is a customizable solution. You can provide your requirements to them, and their technical consultants can help you according to your requirements. Its customization is very easy. Overall, it provides a great return on the investment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a good scalable solution that I have used for small projects and reasonably large projects."
"The workflow and bucket features are most helpful."
"What I like about the product is its extensive features, particularly the wide set of attributes for tracking issues. Jira Portfolio allows us to track not only the overall project but also specific components within it. This is beneficial for all stakeholders, including developers and business owners. For example, business stakeholders can track all issues, regardless of status."
"The documentation is very well done."
"The most valuable feature of the JIRA Portfolio is for managing teams of 10 or more. It can track the program level and portfolio. There are plenty of beneficial features, such as the hierarchy-level view, customization, and structure plugin."
"The product's integration capabilities work pretty well, especially considering that more tools are always needed in enterprise-sized businesses."
"The product makes it easy to collaborate even though it can use some improvement in that area."
"The product's centralized database creates a single source of data for working groups so no data needs to be reconciled."
"The workspace ease, navigation, and portfolios are the most valuable aspects of this solution. I just got access to the portfolios from my upper management, so I'm able to look at our specific SRE portfolio to see what's a priority, look at how many hours we've tracked, and things like that. I'm not so much included in the budgeting but it's important to see what projects are higher priority and so forth."
"Projectplace absolutely supports collaboration in real-time. It's probably one of the best tools out there for collaboration. It affects the project's progress quite a bit. I have started two very similar projects in two separate business units, on very similar teams. I did one with Enterprise One, I did one with Projectplace just to see how the mileage would vary. The one with Projectplace had a very short cycle time so we were able to finish the project earlier. The one with Enterprise One was less engaging and it took a little more time. Because we were tracking the tasks inside the schedule it was not on the cards."
"Projectplace has excellent collaboration features, including some nice kanban boards. We use DocuSign, and Planview just integrated it into Projectplace, so that was helpful. And I like the fact that it links to Enterprise One, the other Planview tool that we use to manage our capital portfolio."
"The most useful features of Planview are its integration with resource management and the ability to commit and reserve various resources."
"It is a complete solution. It is very useful for the management of our internal processes."
"Clarizen's slide publisher is one of my favorite features."
"The overall user interface is fantastic. It has been very easy to learn and use. Any non-technical person with some initial training can work on it from day one, which is very good. The learning material is very good and easy to learn. There is no need to spend additional money on the training."
"It simplifies the management of our day-to-day work and brings all our processes into a single place where we can plan our activities, monitor them, and take any actions accordingly."

Cons

"JIRA and Confluence must be linked automatically."
"We are based in India; I would like the product to integrate local pricing. We earn in rupees but spend in dollars. Its pricing could also be lowered."
"The product could do with more flexible reporting."
"There is room for improvement in terms of scalability."
"As there are no perfect solutions and considering that I rate JIRA Portfolio's stability an eight out of ten, I feel it is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"The reporting and dashboard capabilities have room for improvement."
"I think the solution can improve in graphs and the analysis part."
"It would be nice if it could provide an end-to-end solution for a project."
"We'd like to see a heartier connection between Projectplace and Enterprise One. We know that's on their roadmap, but they haven't gotten there yet. Planview could also make better use of Projectplace's template capability."
"It needs some improvement in the project planning reports, ad hoc reports, and some big file transfers are a challenge. If you were going to transfer some 10 MB or 12 MB document with your team members, then it might have some problems in uploading and sharing those files. The overall dashboard view needs some advancement in its visualizations and uploading a large file size is a challenge."
"It is not easy. The deployment of the application and its functionalities are not easy. It is a complex process to create accounts, names, and catalogs."
"In terms of what could be improved in Planview Projectplace, it would depend on the purpose, because if you talk about resource planning, from my perspective, it's not the best tool. It would also depend on the company itself, for example, I've been working with another company and Planview Projectplace was needed more for workload and resource planning purposes, and I don't think the solution covered those purposes well. Its resource planning and workload functions need improvement."
"If the mobile app were improved to show more information then it would be good."
"Planview is a resource management and project management system. Projectplace allows you to create boards and associate some of Planview's work breakdown structure as a top-level tree under which you can place cards, but there are many limitations because when you make a change in Planview, it is reflected in Projectplace. However, except for a few specific things, changes made in Projectplace are not ported back to Planview. At this point, they're two completely different products. The flaw is that there is very little integration between the two."
"They should also improve the interface. There are other competitors like Microsoft Project for the web, Wrike, Team Gantt who have a way better, modern user interface."
"The reporting end of it needs improvement. There should be more reporting, more data at your fingertips. It should be easier and a little more user-friendly. I know there is some there, but it's just how do you get more meat on the bones, if you will, of what's available."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Given the solution’s significant functionality, benefits, and value, you get more than you pay for."
"I rate JIRA Portfolio a five out of ten for its pricing."
"We pay our fees annually, although monthly payments are also available."
"There are free plugins available, but most of them are at an additional cost. Additionally, other services are an extra cost."
"The pricing continues to get higher."
"I do not believe that the product provides value for money since I feel that it is quite expensive."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the pricing an eight."
"The price could be improved."
"The cost of this product is mid-range. It's not too expensive but not the cheapest on the market."
"It can be expensive, but if you see the functionalities and the processes, it's not as expensive as other applications. We pay about 1 million Mexican Pesos per year for all 100 licenses."
"I believe it is a good value for money for the service they provide and the tailored program. When compared to Microsoft Project."
"I would say the licensing maturity was probably a three out of five. They have a long way to go before they can scale out and retain enterprise customers."
"Pricing might be a challenge because it costs around $29 to $30 per user a month. If you have a large user base, around 100 to 200 users, then it might be costly for an organization. For organizations who do not have a comprehensive overall budget, it might be a challenge."
"In my opinion, the pricing is reasonable."
"Its pricing plan should be improved. It could be expensive for midsize or small companies. There are no additional costs, but it would be great if you can negotiate or confirm the price during the requirement analysis phase."
"I think the price of Projectplace is highly reasonable for the amount of functionality that you get. We have what they call a FLEX License. That means you get Projectplace, Enterprise One, and Leankits all on the same license. That's great because then you can use the other products without any additional cost."
