Stable, great visibility, with smooth deployment.
Our primary use case is for web applications utilizing it primarily for DDoS and cross-site script protection Our organization has improved because it has created a new layer of security analytics. Typically we used to do study code analysis, but then by adding that capability we now have dynamic…

Policies and machine learning are one of a kind, efficient, and provide minimal disturbance to the servers
From an ASM perspective, the most valuable feature was the DOS protection, SQL injection protection, bot protection, bot URLs, and many other features. There were a lot of good features. The most beneficial for maintaining server health included the algorithms for the virtual IP, which segment traffic between servers, authentication profiles, and many other things. The load-balancing capabilities have increased efficiency because servers can handle connection requests one at a time. There are no dropped connections, and the server health is always under the threshold. Moreover, AI enhances LTM's performance in network management. It made it much more secure and efficient by understanding normal traffic patterns and learning the behavior of traffic within the environment. Any suspicious traffic is captured and flagged.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I find the solution very stable."
"It allows us to scale out to multiple phase servers."
"The most valuable feature is the automatic content filtering."
"The product has fantastic support services."
"We use Barracuda to protect the application. That's the main feature we use it for."
"If an attack is coming continuously, you can ask the device to block it temporarily for two to three minutes. F5 has not provided us with an option to block certain IPs for some time. Barracuda can help you block someone if the source is from a different IP. You can apply the rule to the device and block it for whatsoever time you want. The solution will unblock the IP after the prescribed time as well."
"There is no one special feature, but the WAF itself is valuable: user-friendly protection against web attacks etc., authentication, reporting, accountability, alerting, and hardened OS."
"The installation is straightforward."
"I have Big-IP change and control manager, which give me the roll back option. Therefore, I can view the last things which happened on the device."
"We are using Application Security Manager (ASM) as a web application firewall, where there is a security signature to avoid a web level breach."
"It is a scalable solution."
"It supports APIs and virtual additions for cloud and VMware."
"One of the best features of the solution is the operating system."
"If I were to choose one key feature in particular, perhaps it would be the iRule feature. It’s a really versatile tool."
"F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) is very easy to use, from SSL Management to enabling, disabling loads, applications, systems, and monitoring. Overall the solution keeps our application functional from a client's perspective 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
"The most helpful thing is that it's open-source. It's very easy to program and customize."

Cons

"I think the main area for improvement in this product is learning it, as can be seen when comparing it to the F5 web application firewall. F5 has a very powerful learning phase when you start using your web application firewall against your site. Barracuda has something like this, but not with the same functionality from my point of view."
"As most people are aware, the implementation is not easy."
"I have issues with the load balancing of the solution which is slow. The connection pooling in Barracuda also doesn't work. There is an issue when someone needs access to a site quickly. The issue is with HTTPS services. I am not sure if they have changed all these in the solution’s latest version."
"I would like to see a native multi-cloud cover."
"We've had some blocks of the application and some false positives."
"It is not stable nor mature."
"One of Barracuda's limitations is its user interface. The GUI for configuration is not intuitive and has remained largely unchanged for the past 10 to 12 years."
"While the UI is good, it can get a little bit complicated."
"F5 has another solution to load balance servers on the cloud, which they got after the purchase of NGINX. It is deployed as Kubernetes or something like that, but the problem now is that they have two solutions for two situations. They should make F5 deployable on the cloud."
"It would be good to have better traffic and better data. It would be nice to have more granularity to see packets in terms of the header details, the analytics, etc. It would be nice if that was also part of it and to have analytics added to the traffic."
"BIG-IP LTM is taking a long time to mature in cloud environments. They plan to improve cloud integration in the next version, but it isn't out yet. It's essential because more companies are moving to the cloud these days and using things like Kubernetes or microservices. F5 needs to improve in that direction, and they are."
"Reporting could be improved and configuration made easier."
"The management interface is unclear, complex, and not concise. I would like a better user interface."
"I would like F5 to incorporate the ability to create your own custom roles and customised permissions within the product set. I have seen many customers wanting to give a certain level of access for the purposes of out-of-hours servicing to out-of-hours staff or teams that fulfill an operations type role."
"Lacking in free training to help users understand the product more, so they would know how to correctly use it. Like other vendors and their products, becoming more proactive is an area for improvement."
"The solution is scalable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is a little expensive. There is a license for this solution and it can be purchased every one, two, or five years."
"The Barracuda Web Application Firewall is quite expensive."
"The product is inexpensive."
"The solution is based on a licensing model and might be $360 for the hybrid version."
"The price of this solution is okay."
"While I would have to check on the price of the solution, I feel it to be okay and it matches the market price."
"Barracuda costs us $8,000 per year. Barracuda costs $20,000 for a full subscription, when you try to protect multi-site infrastructure, in different geographical zones and for different data centers. If you have only one site, Barracuda will be cheaper."
"They have competitive pricing."
"We have found the pricing and licensing on AWS to be competitive."
"It is the best solution, but that comes with an increased price."
"The pricing is inclusive of many features."
"It is quite expensive as a product. Because it is very stable, it is also expensive."
"F5 isn’t cheap but is worth the price."
"I am not aware of the exact cost of the product. However, it is expensive."
"It is sort of a commodity product. A load balancer is a load balancer. What will be, at the end of the day, the cheapest option or have the best performance, that is what it will come down to."
"In my view, the cost is somewhat on the higher side. There are discounts available, but I wouldn't say it's overpriced. It's not cheap either, and the value for money is a bit higher from that perspective."
