Easy to set up with excellent automations and sharable boards
Pros and Cons
  • "The automations are fantastic for rewarding progress."
  • "While great, the shareable boards lack some features that normal boards possess and that’s a big burden for us."

What is our primary use case?

We are a small startup media company with a lot going on. As we grew, disorganization became a serious problem. I turned to Monday, which has allowed us to work and flow as a growing team. It has also provided a concrete organizational basis for how we run our day-to-day.

How has it helped my organization?

It’s all about organization and communication. Monday has a million different features, so we can organize how we want, not how we’re told to. This has led to more creative problem solving when it comes to growth and has greatly improved client rapport and retention.

What is most valuable?

The automations are fantastic for rewarding progress. I also really enjoy the ability to tag coworkers in projects instead of emailing them or using Slack. Also, the shareable boards have been a game-changer with clients. The automations are fantastic for rewarding progress.

What needs improvement?

While great, the shareable boards lack some features that normal boards possess and that’s a big burden for us. It’s hard to not know what the client sees and that makes us look a little unorganized. They can also be a little buggy sometimes.

Easy to set up and offers a good project overview but needs templates
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is easy."
  • "The solution really needs to offer templates."

What is our primary use case?

It's a basic system for me to keep tracking what is happening in my project at a high level. If I don't know and want to go in deep and check exactly what is happening, I use Monday as an overall picture for my monthly projects, let's say.

What is most valuable?

It's great for providing a general overview of projects in one snapshot.

The initial setup is easy.

It's quite a stable product.

What needs improvement?

Monday has a lot of space, let's say, for improvement. Especially when you create a new board. The board is like a new project; it's called "board". When you create a new board, you add everything manually. It doesn't come with a template by default. If you want to change the status of your task, you should change it manually. Even changing the date is manual. If you have an update on the project, or if the project closed or went away, all the dates are added manually. This is time-consuming if you are comparing it with Jira. In Jira, when you open a task, the date is read automatically, which is easier. On Monday I need to add it manually.

The solution really needs to offer templates. That would be very helpful.

I'd like to be able to add different panels under the same project. For example, at the moment I can create groups, which is fine, however, all of them include the same columns. I cannot have them in group one, five columns, and in group two, three columns due to the fact that it's under the same project, under the same board.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used Monday only for the last couple of months. It's been four or five months now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has been stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have about 15 people on our team using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

I've never had the need to contact Monday's technical support team and therefore cannot comment on how they are to deal with.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also work with Jira.

How was the initial setup?

I found the initial setup to be simple and straightforward. It's easy. It's not complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My understanding is that it is open-source. There is a standard installation fee, however, in regards to users, it's free.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure of which version of the solution I'm using.

I'd advise a new user to try to create a few projects as an example before you create a real one. It's a little bit complicated and I'm not aware if there's a manual to read or find out how to properly do the setup of a project. If a new user tries to create a few examples before they start, it will help them get comfortable with Monday.

I would rate the solution six out of ten. I'm always comparing. Monday and Jira are both for project management solutions. Comparing it with Jira, Monday doesn't have as many features or abilities. It's a very basic program. You cannot create Casper flows or create automated approval or check the availability of your team based on your resources. It gives you an overall picture, the high-level picture, of your tasks and that is basically it.

Helps with logistics and offers great boards and sub-boards
Pros and Cons
  • "The boards and the sub-boards are great."
  • "There have recently been a lot of lagging and loading delays with saving."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for project management for upcoming large-scale events. We work with multiple departments on our events and to keep everyone on the same page using Monday.com.

It has been an efficient source for our team. We communicate with our graphics team the most through Monday with deadlines and approvals and edits.

How has it helped my organization?

Monday.com keeps our entire team in check with deadlines and projects. We plan for multiple events at once so organization is key. This platform allows everyone on the team to be added to a board and also allows them to make their own board.

What is most valuable?

The boards and the sub-boards are great. It helps our team divide up the important topics of each event logistics. A great feature is also being able to add viewers without the cost of a user, this allows other departments to view boards we create and share deadlines with people outside of our team or company.

What needs improvement?

There have recently been a lot of lagging and loading delays with saving. This comes and goes, however, I have found it difficult to use when boards are unable to save when going back to update.

Additional features that would be cool would be adding different formats for multiple workspaces on one board. Right now, each workspace has to have the same type of board set up and you're unable to have multiple types in one board. This becomes inconvenient sometimes because you like to keep everything under one topic type but with different layouts.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for two years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Excel and email.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are additional user fees.

Feature-rich, adapts well to different product environments, scales well, and is stable
Pros and Cons
  • "monday.com is easy to set up."
  • "They could offer more packages. There seems to be a gap in price between package offers. One has as much as a $30 difference."

What is our primary use case?

We work in construction for an architectural firm. We do the design, and construction in an agile management system.

What is most valuable?

monday.com is easy to set up.

It is more user-friendly than others and it adapts well to different project delivery environments.

It really offers us all the tools that we need to cover the design and construction bases.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with monday.com for a month, but I also worked with it two years ago, for six or seven months for a specific project.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

monday.com appears to be stable. To date, we have not had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

monday.com is a scalable product.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not contacted technical support. I have reached out to the marketing team and researched on Youtube. I am really impressed.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with Asana, and have tested it on pretrials.

I have been working with Asana for three weeks. It was a bit more difficult for me to set up.

When I was trying to set it up, it was a bit more complicated, the screens were not as nice as the screens on Monday, and they are not as adaptable on monday.com. I put it aside.

In terms of pricing, Asana was the most expensive product of all.

Their free trial version doesn't give you many options, it does give you options, but not enough. There are just enough to get you interested. Once you decide on the options that you need, the price goes up quickly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy.

I viewed some tutorials on YouTube and the tutorials were very easy to find and well done.

I am recommending it to my owners because it was really easy to setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of pricing, it is not the cheapest.

They could offer more packages. There seems to be a gap in price between package offers. One has as much as a $30 difference.

Fees are paid monthly per user.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate monday.com a nine out of ten.

Stable; lets you set up projects quickly
Pros and Cons
  • "Performance has been good. Stability has been good."
  • "It could have a few more features when it comes to managing projects."

What is our primary use case?

Our use case is tracking tasks within a project.

How has it helped my organization?

It has exposed people to tracking tasks in a software solution versus on paper or in Excel. It provided for automatic reminders, like a tickler file. It provided dashboards for executives so they could look at a quick snapshot of the status of a project and the necessary security to only have certain people have access to it.

What is most valuable?

What I've found the most valuable is that you can set up a project quickly and track and retract information very easily.

What needs improvement?

It would be great to see additional automation rules and have varied fields per subcategory.

It could have a few more features when it comes to managing projects.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using monday.com for a couple of years probably.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Performance has been good. Stability has been good. I haven't lost any data, which is fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I assume it is very scalable. I have not run into any limitations. We have about 70 users across different departments.

How are customer service and support?

I think they respond pretty promptly. If I remember correctly, they have 24/7 support and you can get an answer or get in touch fairly quickly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The company was not using anything previously but I use Microsoft Project. I introduced monday.com in our organization because I needed a solution that would be readily accepted. People will hesitate to use anything complex.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We deployed in-house. Deployment took about 20 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Just evaluate it and try not to compare it to higher end products that will cost you a lot more money.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable, easy to set up, and scales well
Pros and Cons
  • "The global search is the solution's most valuable aspect."
  • "The user admin module could be more accessible."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for project management.

How has it helped my organization?

The product has provided our organization with improved efficiency.

What is most valuable?

The global search is the solution's most valuable aspect.

The initial setup is straightforward.

The product is very scalable.

The solution is stable. The performance is great.

Technical support has been helpful.

The solution is very flexible.

The pricing is excellent. They make it very affordable.

What needs improvement?

The user administration needs to be improved. The user admin module could be more accessible.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for two years. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've had a positive experience with the stability. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability has been excellent. If we want to expand it, we can do so. It's easy.

We're up to 75 users and they include project managers, a project stakeholder team, and project team members.

We use the product extensively. However, I'm not sure if we plan to increase usage, as I'm not sure if we plan to increase users.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is excellent. They are helpful and responsive. We're very satisfied with the help they provide to us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We moved right into Monday. It's my understanding that we didn't previously use another solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup isn't overly complex or difficult. It's very straightforward and quite simple.

The entire setup only takes a few hours. Deployment is fast.

The product doesn't require a lot of maintenance. It takes less than one person to manage it.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the solution completely in-house. We didn't need to hire an integrator or consultant to assist us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is quite inexpensive. For example, we pay $8,500 for 75 users. It's somewhere around $100 a user, approximately.

There aren't any extras that you need to pay for.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and an end-user. We don't have a business relationship with Monday.com.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

While it is deployed on the cloud, I'm not sure which cloud service we are using.

I'd advise those considering the solution to first run a pilot project first to try it out and get to know it.

Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

Great for managing small projects, but communication can be difficult
Pros and Cons
  • "The value is that monday.com provides us with an overall picture of how much work a teammate has."
  • "Sometimes allocating between team members via the communication tool can be difficult."

What is our primary use case?

monday.com is a project management tool.

Within our organization, there are 20 to 25 employees using this solution.

In our firm, different people have different roles, and sometimes we need to communicate. Some people are remote workers — some people are probably in Toronto, and other team members are in Vancouver. We use this tool to communicate. Our boss can follow a project and see how far along it is. He can talk to specific people if something is not going very well.

We don't have to deal with maintenance as monday.com is on the cloud.

What is most valuable?

The value is that monday.com provides us with an overall picture of how much work a teammate has, and for each team member, and how they're doing. I don't think it's an excellent tool to monitor how the team members are progressing, but it's a tool that can be used.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes allocating between team members via the communication tool can be difficult. If one team member is responsible for two or three things at the same time, from the dashboard, the boss can only see one. This could be related to a configuration issue, I am not sure. We tried to solve it, but we haven't succeeded. Whenever one person is in charge of two jobs at the same time for the same project, our boss has to ask again, and again.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using monday.com for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think it's quite stable. It has only crashed one or two times — that's it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I think it's good. Every time our team is all on monday.com, I don't see any kind of problems with the server being overloaded or anything like that. It's been working very well over the past two years.

How are customer service and support?

I think the technical support is okay. I've only had to talk to them once because my account froze. I contacted them and it was solved very quickly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used the trial version — probably just for two weeks. My boss didn't like it so we switched to the premium version of monday.com.

How was the initial setup?

I was not involved in the initial setup. I am just an everyday user.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I wasn't involved with the licensing, but I believe it's negotiable.

What other advice do I have?

If you're looking for a tool to manage simple projects, then this is a tool that can be used. Still, don't expect too much from the tool. I think the communication part is the most important part.

Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give monday.com a rating of seven.
