It fixes so many problems quickly that we don't regret spending more on high-end tools than most companies
It would be nice to have some more training resources for younger techs. We can use them if we need some assistance, but that usually requires one of us who knows what we're doing to calibrate the programs properly. There's one thing our nXG handhelds do that AirMagnet doesn't do out of the box. The nXG devices can analyze the wired and wireless networks simultaneously and map the networks out. We find it handy. However, if I have that plugged into our older OptiView XG tablets or our laptops, I have no way to analyze both the WiFi and the wired network at the same time and build a single picture with all that data. So far, that's something only our nXG handhelds can do. It would be nice if there were a way to integrate all the network discovery, troubleshooting, and mapping of the WiFi and the wired at the same time. There are almost no products that do that currently. If they managed to do that, they'd probably open up their market pretty quickly.

Reliable convenient access point management through dashboard connection
It is primarily used for wireless access, both indoors throughout the plant and outdoors One of the most convenient aspects of having access to the dashboard is the ability to work on access points from any location. This eliminates the need for a wireless controller, as all connections are made…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using the products to ensure the safety of our equipment that we have a lot invested in."
"It is reliable and easy to use (user-friendly). The heat mapping, passive network surveying, and doing the heat mapping of a building's wireless network allows me to see what level of coverage an area has."
"Clear and easy to use maps."
"The benefit is with the ease of use of the software, I am able to show the customer, "Here is what your wireless coverage looks like." It is set up in a fashion that non-technical people can understand it."
"The most valuable feature is the predictive survey. The antennas' RF patterns are reflected correctly on the drawing when preparing predictive heat maps."
"Customer service is great."
"The AirMagnet Survey allows you to see the list of APs in the live view. It only supports certain adapters, which can be limiting, but it's also beneficial because these adapters are more comparable to real-life devices like laptops. With Ekahau, Sidekick needs to be used for full features, but I find the Sidekick too strong, which can hamper results. Therefore, I prefer AirMagnet's approach because the adapters provide more realistic readings."
"The heat maps are quite good, and some features are easy to use."
"It makes the process much easier by providing visibility and centralized control over the network."
"The solution provides good coverage and identity management. Additionally, the user interface is straightforward."
"Multiple access ID capabilities, meshing, and the quality of the product itself are all valuable features."
"It is easy to set up. You can do everything on the GUI. You don't need to trace cables. You don't need to connect to the switch. Everything is there, right in front of you."
"The monitoring device enables you to see the network health."
"The primary value lies in the ease of configuration; these products seamlessly integrate, and work well together."
"The cloud manageability feature is valuable."
"The most valuable feature is the stability. It works and doesn't stop."

Cons

"It'd be nice if it was cheaper, however, you get value for your money."
"The surveying features are in need of improvement, along with general usability."
"Less time consumed doing the real surveys."
"But it's definitely a more expensive solution than other ones."
"When you conduct an active survey and then want to use it for design work, it's actually not very useful."
"I would say some of our newer techs that are going out to job sites can be a little bit intimidated by the interface."
"The throughput should be more advanced in the future. They need to add more versions of WiFi than just one."
"AirMagnet Survey doesn't cover certain devices in the system."
"It is expensive. Juniper seems to have a lot more to offer for future expansion. Juniper has some features that are not there in this solution."
"Its pricing could be better."
"It could be slightly cheaper but it's fine."
"The commercial version of the solution could be cheaper."
"The initial setup could be made easier."
"The biggest pain point is that they limit you through firewall throughput. I understand why they do it, but that really grates me. For instance, for 450 Mbps throughput, you're looking at £800 for a router, whereas if you look at the one gig connection, for some of us are lucky enough to have a gig connection, you could almost be spending £3,000 for the option to have one gig connectivity. That's one of the pain points I've got. I don't mind paying for throughput, but I should at least have the option to be able to update that throughput, maybe through extra licensing or something else. It is crazy expensive to jump through to the next one."
"The solution could be cheaper."
"It would be nice to have licensing that stays in place while the system is being renovated or changed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's pricing is medium."
"The moment we began needing more of the vendor's support, the cost became very high; we switched to another solution."
"For technical support, you need an annual license, but it is not worth it."
"The pricing needs improvement."
"There is an annual cost of the solution. There are some additional charges, such as support and maintenance."
"This product is very expensive."
"The licensing of AirMagnet Survey is different when compared to Ekahu. It is a third of the cost of Ekahau but there are no dedicated laptops to the Sidekick. AirMagnet allows you to license an adapter and share that adapter."
"Cost could be better."
"We do a three-year or five-year license and support. Its price could be better, but overall, we get competitive prices. A lot of times, Cisco puts itself out of range, especially with Meraki. I've dealt with a lot of business development from Cisco, and they have always been accommodating, especially in dealing with hospitals or government. There is also a right time to buy it. July is when they are eager to sell a lot of things because that is the end of their calendar year."
"It's not super expensive and it's not super cheap."
"The platform is expensive."
"Cisco products are generally recognized for their performance and quality, which may justify the higher price point compared to other options on the market."
"Its price is higher than other products. It is above the expectation of customers. So, every time we need to fight for a good price."
"Having a good price is important when we are providing quotations for projects."
"The price is negotiable."
