Automates policy analysis, optimizes configurations, and visualizes security risks
AlgoSec is a very helpful product in carrying out security operations effectively. It has a user-friendly interface, and we don't encounter any problems during or after installing updates. We can get quick support from the manufacturer in case of problems. The ability to automate policy analysis…

Scalable, stable, and has a high bandwidth
I use VMware NSX for virtualizing networks for VMware virtual machines VMware NSX improved my organization because it's more flexible than network hardware and provides many solutions, such as firewalls and load balancers. The most valuable feature of VMware NSX is the high bandwidth. A room…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Traffic queries are a great help when troubleshooting a problem, especially if the traffic is going through two or more firewalls."
"For us, as well as for our customers, firewall management and change management are the most important features."
"This has helped to restrict rules, delete rules that are too permissive, and create a configuration that complies with our security policy."
"Firewall Analyzer and AppViz are the most important features because they provide a lot of information regarding network segmentation. For us, this is a valuable input in order to provide network segmentation for various applications that we have developed in-house or that we bought from vendors. Our network is not properly segmented right now, but we plan to do it using AlgoSec. This is the most important feature for us right now."
"Security ratings and security rules analysis are valuable features."
"R&D patches to address issues that I have encountered have been timely and effective."
"AlgoSec contributes more in the security space for our company, especially in automatically finding the high risk and medium risk rules instead of manually reviewing over a few thousand rules."
"Customizability is AlgoSec's best feature."
"The most valuable features are security and dynamic routing."
"The ability to scale from different clouds. At the moment, the scalability of the product is the number one thing that I saw."
"The product has valuable features for security and network extension."
"Any administrator with basic networking knowledge, in a couple of days, can be in full control of their networking without going through a networking engineer."
"The we can actually extend Layer 2 networking across datacenters, and also Layer 3 networking, which comes along with it."
"This solution comes with an API that can easily integrate with other solutions."
"Their technical support is very good. They help us figure out solutions when we have problems."
"The solution is easy to use and is good for management control."

Cons

"The customization of dashboards should be simplified and more user-friendly."
"The blacklisting and whitelisting of IP addresses should be improved. There are many false positives."
"Needs better integration between modules and also a better troubleshooting methodology."
"Automate the change documentation in MS Word format. Therefore, we can customize it, if needed."
"The risk matrix implementation is not easy from an Excel file, so it would be nice to have a solution for creating it directly within the web interface."
"Be able to automatically analyze application traffic with machine learning capabilities and propose simplification for rule set optimization."
"At the integration point, a manual page could be added to the dashboard where directions about the products are explained in detail."
"I would say that the cases opened with AlgoSec could be solved faster or escalated sooner to the senior engineers/2nd or 3rd tier."
"The initial establishment can be complex."
"The cost of the solution has room for improvement."
"A room for improvement in VMware NSX is that it has some security vulnerabilities, which means my company has to apply the patches every once in a while."
"It lacks full knowledge of physical side of the network topology."
"The feature it can improve is essentially application-based load balancing with intelligent load distribution for applications that require redundancy and high availability."
"The price is rather high."
"If you're worried that NSX is too complex, I would tell you to take another look. If you compare NSX to a similar solution you might find it to be a bit more complex. Usually, the guy that comes in to implement NSX isn't the network guy and will lack the knowledge for the program. He can lack the knowledge for this program and will therefore think it's complex. You need somebody with network experience."
"I would rate this product an eight because it's a good product but it needs more work. They should fix some of the bugs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I can’t say that this is a cheap system. It's affordable for large enterprises and, in some cases, for mid-sized companies. For the majority of other companies, this solution is out of their price range."
"The licensing scheme should be done in a simpler way. For example, if we delete a firewall and want to add a new one, then the license doesn't get freed up automatically. You have to request a new license to customer support and install it. If you are testing new implementations, this can be cumbersome."
"I find the price too expensive. It looks a bit like SAP, so it does have standard functionality out of the box, but you will spend a lot of money if you want to customize it. However, the price is not as extreme as SAP or Oracle, but the actual implementation does turn out to be expensive."
"We are working with our finance department right now to be able to purchase it. The AlgoSec team is doing everything that they can in their power to get the costs down to where our budget is. They have worked a lot on it. They have cut the cost in half for us so far by questioning, "This is in the quote. Is this something that is actually needed?" They have pulled some stuff out and cut our costs down by 50% for the product itself."
"I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I understand the platform to be expensive, though I need to find out how it compares to competitors like Tufin, for example."
"The licensing is very easy to set up, with flexible licensing methods such as subscription and perpetual."
"Setup cost and pricing were reasonable and the licensing was straightforward."
"The pricing of AlgoSec is fair."
"The pricing is higher than other options from Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco because it is sold in a bundle."
"There is a license required for this solution, we pay annually."
"The solution is reasonable at the local level."
"VMware has a subscription and perpetual license. In the New Year, they're changing many things about the licensing model. Previously, NSX was licensed according to the number of sockets inside the appliance, so we bought VMware licenses based on that. However, that may have changed this year. We are still contacting the vendors to understand the new licensing strategy."
"VMware has always been geared towards enterprise and their pricing options are a bit high. Their price is higher than other options in the market."
"The price of VMware NSX is optimal. Additionally, the price of the solution can be negotiated with the vendor. Many areas of the solution can impact the cost, such as features, time for onboarding, and support needed."
"It is an expensive product, but cheaper than some competing solutions."
"I'm unable to give information on the pricing or licensing cost of VMware NSX because I've never been someone who looks into the economic part of any security or virtualization solutions. That's handled by an entirely different team, and I don't even have the slightest idea about the costs associated with the solution, though I've heard pricing for VMware NSX is on the higher side."
