We use Jamf Pro for Mac and Desktop central for ManageEngine for Windows. It allows us to set up and configure hardware remotely. We also use this solution to release patches, configurations, applications, installations, and any restrictions when required.
Manager at a non-profit with 11-50 employees
Dynamic solution that makes it possible to manage Apple and Windows products remotely including releasing patches and specific configurations
Pros and Cons
- "One of the most valuable features is the ability to apply apply granular level restrictions to our machines, making them easy to manage remotely from the backend."
- "The upgrade process of this solutions could be improved. It is not possible to use Jamf Pro to upgrade devices."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
One of the most valuable features is the ability to apply apply granular level restrictions to our machines, making them easy to manage remotely from the backend.
What needs improvement?
The upgrade process of these solutions could be improved. It is not possible to use Jamf Pro to upgrade devices. This has to be done via the Apple site. In comparison, in Windows, it is possible to download patches and everything you need is readily available on the console of ManageEngine. However, using Jamf Pro and Mac, these packages need to be created and pushed out and sometimes fail due to the network or connectivity.
There is no solution in Jamf Pro to remotely manage Mac machines if they are not on your network.
Patching packages aren't readily available. We have to create those packages and that is time-consuming.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for more than one year.

This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable solution. We have more than 2000 users.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support for this solution is not that good.
I would rate their support team a five out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We used a vendor team who completed the POC and assisted with the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing costs for this solution are high.
What other advice do I have?
Jamf Pro gives you control at a granular level such as blocking specific USB devices being used with hardware. This solution has great compatibility with the latest MacBook including offering a PPPC utility and a wide variety of scripts.
The limitations of Jamf Pro are due to Apple restrictions and not the tool itself.
I would rate it a nine out of ten.

Premium, stable solution used to back up a Mac fleet which is scaling
Pros and Cons
- "My team use this solution to provide end-to-end support on our managed Mac fleet. This includes doing OS updates and upgrades, application deployments, configuration settings and outlining."
What is our primary use case?
My team use this solution to provide end-to-end support on our managed Mac fleet. This includes doing OS updates and upgrades, application deployments, configuration settings and outlining.
What is most valuable?
Jamf Pro has been the best solution in the market to manage Mac fleets for our organization.
What needs improvement?
This is an advanced solution which is ahead than any other vendor. There are no particular areas for improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We opted for the cloud version of this solution as it is scalable. We are currently supporting 1000 to 1500 devices and we will be scaling this to 6000 Mac devices.
How are customer service and support?
When we have needed assistance, the technical support has been good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have previously used open source solutions to manage Mac fleets but they became outdated and support was limited. We did a product evaluation for three or four different products, and found Jamf Pro the best in the market. Previously we were using Puppet and Monkey.
How was the initial setup?
It was combination of being straightforward and complex. It took some time to set up the environment because we had to migrate the configurations and applications to Jamf. This took three months.
What about the implementation team?
We had a trusted partner to do this migration, but our team worked with them for three months.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have signed a licensing contract for three years. There is an option to buy an annual license subscription, but we opted for three years as it came with a 25% or 30% discount.
What other advice do I have?
Jamf Pro are the trusted partners for Apple. So they are the first one who implement any technical changes that Apple is making. Jamf is the first product to ensure those changes are getting replicated or getting affected and getting implemented actually in their product.

Great DEP enrollment process, self-service portal, and helpful for remote deployments
Pros and Cons
- "The self-service portal to share scripts and other tasks that have extremely minimized the need for calls to our support teams, or even sharing the applications we package and allowing users to pick and choose what apps they need or want, instead of just blanket installing everything from our old environment."
- "Inventory reporting could be better, however, that is already slated to improve with some of the new features Apple has announced in WWDC 2022."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for MacOS device management in an environment of over 2500 devices that are found around the globe.
How has it helped my organization?
It has completely enabled us to have a remote deployment solution for our users across the globe, as well as full management of the devices like we've never had before. It's also given us the power to let the users service their own devices via the Self-Service portal, extremely minimizing the amount of service calls our support teams to get now.
Its also given us insight into how the devices are used on a day-to-day basis, allowing us to trim our available catalog and tailor the devices we deploy to their actual needs.
What is most valuable?
The self-service portal to share scripts and other tasks that have extremely minimized the need for calls to our support teams, or even sharing the applications we package and allowing users to pick and choose what apps they need or want, instead of just blanket installing everything from our old environment.
Also, the DEP enrollment process is great. Account creation and management of the SSO extensions have made it so the devices no longer require to be AD Bound, giving us the flexibility to have local accounts and really utilize the full extent of MacOS.
What needs improvement?
Inventory reporting could be better, however, that is already slated to improve with some of the new features Apple has announced in WWDC 2022.
Managing the devices and getting their details is too much work to accomplish, but by using the API and some externally available and free tools, we've been able to get the data we need whenever we need it in a way that is more presentable to management and upper leadership. With the improvements coming down the road from Apple though, a lot of it will be much more seamless.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for over three years in my current role, however, I've worked inside of the product elsewhere since 2011.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Seamless enrollment with a great dashboard and helpful smart groups
Pros and Cons
- "I can add policies, configuration profiles, patch management, and smart group membership to one single view, and this is very helpful at a glance."
- "It would be nice to be able to search smart groups and/or filter them."
What is our primary use case?
I manage 1000+ Macs and 200+ iPads from Jamf. I am able to manage software and application updates, pull reports, and scope out certain policies and configuration profiles to a specific set of computers or mobile devices, all from a single pane of glass. I can also leverage a seamless enrollment for our computers when we onboard new employees within our company.
I can leverage smart groups and API calls for certain automation workflows that help the overall goal of managing and maintaining our computers.
How has it helped my organization?
We can manage software and application updates, pull reports, and scope out certain policies and configuration profiles to a specific set of computers or mobile devices, all from a single pane of glass. There is seamless enrollment for our computers when we onboard new employees within our company.
What is most valuable?
The features I find most valuable within Jamf Pro are:
- The dashboard. I can add policies, configuration profiles, patch management, and smart group membership to one single view, and this is very helpful at a glance.
- The policies. I can deploy scripts and packages easily with policy payloads. This can range from applications to specific policies that I need to deploy to our users.
- The smart groups. Based on certain criteria, I can group computers and mobile devices and leverage that to deploy my payloads to those devices
What needs improvement?
The areas of the product I would like to see improved are:
- The universal searching with filters. It would be nice to be able to search smart groups and/or filter them. We'd like search packages or be able to categorize them a bit better by leveraging tags. Right now, searching is only on certain pages in Jamf and it is inconsistent.
- Better reporting. It would be nice if Jamf could build out a reporting pane within Jamf to see better data. This can include patch management, smart group criteria, and so on. This would help when reporting to higher-ups.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for more than eight years.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of this solution is a bit high but it is worth the money for the features.
There is an annual license for the use of this solution.

Senior Manager at a financial services firm with 10,001+ employees
Stable, scalable, and easy to install
Pros and Cons
- "It's a scalable product."
- "We face issues when we do not have a script and have to write a script, we need to create extension attributes."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for device management.
What is most valuable?
I am very satisfied with Jamf Pro. It's a good solution.
What needs improvement?
When we are creating or fetching the features, such as creating extension attributes.
We face issues when we do not have a script and have to write a script, we need to create extension attributes. The hardware details and software details should be by default from Jamf. This needs improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Jamf Pro for almost five years.
We are not using the latest version. We use version 10.26.1.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf Pro is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable product.
Jamf enrolled devices are approximately 1,000, for a project that we have started with recently.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. We didn't experience any gap there. It was good.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
My management is trying to set up VMware Workspace ONE. It will take 10 to 12 months to set up the Workspace ONE in the company. Once it is set up then we can do a comparison and a PoC between both.

Good self-service, useful patch management, and helps secure devices
Pros and Cons
- "The self-service is invaluable to the user."
- "Jamf needs to get an inbuilt remote support tool to allow the admin to remote into machines. At present, you can use third-party remote apps, however, a Jamf one would be better."
What is our primary use case?
We use the product in a higher education environment that was completely unmanaged before Jamf. We have 8,000 devices in total that are now being gradually enrolled.
How has it helped my organization?
It's allowed us to manage our fleet and patch management. It has secured our devices and connected with our Mac users like never before.
What is most valuable?
The self-service is invaluable to the user. It's somewhere that the user to go and get institutional resources like software, bookmarks, or IT tools to help them.
What needs improvement?
Jamf needs to get an inbuilt remote support tool to allow the admin to remote into machines. At present, you can use third-party remote apps, however, a Jamf one would be better. Currently, Jamf allowed for TeamViewer integration, however, TeamViewer is very expensive these days and not worth the money they now charge.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Jamf since August, and I'm hugely impressed by the level of detail you can configure.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Intune, which was not good enough for Macs.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Intune was evaluated as we already had it in use. However, we deemed it not suitable for our Mac estate.
