Easy to use, overall good functionality, and simple to manage
Pros and Cons
  • "Ruckus Wireless is more of a plain Wi-Fi solution where it does the basic job well. Additionally, it has good conductivity, easy to use, simple to manage, and its access points can be used as standalone devices which gives flexibility in the SMB market."
  • "The solution lacks a lot of features other solutions provide. If you are an organization that is more focused on security or you need a lot of other features, such as location tracking then Ruckus Wireless may not be the right choice. If you want a solution with more than basic security I would choose Arista or Aruba."

What is our primary use case?

Ruckus Wireless is used for networking and security. They have both cloud-based and on-premise controllers available. You often see this solution in the hospitality sector.

What is most valuable?

Ruckus Wireless is more of a plain Wi-Fi solution where it does the basic job well. Additionally, it has good conductivity, easy to use, simple to manage, and its access points can be used as standalone devices which gives flexibility in the SMB market.

What needs improvement?

The solution lacks a lot of features other solutions provide. If you are an organization that is more focused on security or you need a lot of other features, such as location tracking then Ruckus Wireless may not be the right choice. If you want a solution with more than basic security I would choose Arista or Aruba.

Ruckus has gone through too many changes in their management, and in the last four or five years, they have been lacking feature sets that others provide. Additionally, the integration, network security, and BLE features need to be improved. There are key features they are still lacking.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used Ruckus Wireless within the past 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is highly stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ruckus Wireless is scalable. However, in terms of the scalability of the controller, there is always a limit on the number of access points or clients the hardware can support. If the access points are placed in a decent place with multiple options of controllers everything works well.

Ruckus Wireless is the best fit for the SMB market which they have a dominant presence.

We have deployed the solution in an educational institute and in a restaurant that has a lodging segment and a coworking space.

How are customer service and support?

I have not faced any problems with the solution to need to contact the technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is straightforward. It can be done in a short period of time.

What about the implementation team?

Once you deploy Ruckus Wireless correctly, there is no maintenance required. It is close to maintenance-free, except for some operational jobs which depend upon what the customer may want and that is where you need human intervention.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you walk into any restaurant or hotel you will find Ruckus Wireless solutions because it is economical when it comes to pricing. There is a basic subscription for the license and support.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Arista and Aruba.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Ruckus Wireless to anyone who is looking for a plain Wi-Fi solution. If you want Wi-Fi that will provide wireless connectivity that is good and stable, this is the solution to pick. If you need a solution with a lot of features for the network, such as wireless intrusion prevention or internal location tracking, there are other solutions that you should look for.

I rate Ruckus Wireless an eight out of ten.

Helpful support, easy to deploy, and simple to use
Pros and Cons
  • "The product can scale."
  • "The cloud system from Ruckus is not mature enough just yet."

What is our primary use case?

Ruckus is very useful with hospitality. Actually, it's unique when it comes to hospitality and education, and high-use environments.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very easy to use.

The stability is great. It's a very stable product and is very good at hospitality integration. The cloud path solution for education is very helpful. When it comes to onboarding students and employees to the system, it's easy.

The product can scale.

Support is helpful.

Users get a good ROI.

What needs improvement?

The development time is slow. It takes a very long time to get new features. That said, when upgrades do come, it's quite stable. It would be nice, however, to get more frequent updates.

The cloud system from Ruckus is not mature enough just yet. They need a better cloud controller.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about 12 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is great. I'd rate it nine out of ten in terms of the ability to expand as needed.

We have more than 40 clients using the product right now.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is quite helpful. They keep track of tickets quite well.

How was the initial setup?

The deployments are fast. It takes a maximum of one hour to deploy an on-premises version and less than 30 minutes if you are deploying to the cloud.

You only need one or two people to manage the deployment and maintenance of the solution. The implementation typically requires a network engineer.

What about the implementation team?

We are a systems integrator. We are able to deploy the solution easily ourselves.

What was our ROI?

We've seen a very good ROI. I'd rate the ability to achieve ROI nine out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

On-premises deployments have perpetual licensing. Cloud licenses offer a yearly subscription.

What other advice do I have?

We're integrators.

We can use on-premises and cloud deployments.

I'd recommend the solution to others, however, it depends on the size of the network. They have multiple models of access points and switches, so whether this product would be ideal or not depends on the sizing.

Overall, I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Flexible and reasonably priced with good technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The scalability has been very good."
  • "It would be ideal if the solution offered more features."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for a variety of companies, including those in transportation and the government sector as well. It's used for wireless access.

What is most valuable?

Overall, we are very satisfied with its capabilities.

The pricing is very reasonable.

It is flexible.

It contains almost all of the new features that solutions require for wireless access.

The scalability has been very good.

Technical support has been good.

What needs improvement?

It would be ideal if the solution offered more features.

The product could use more integration capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for a while now. We use it continuously, on different projects.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've installed the solution for many clients so far.

We find the solution to be very scalable. I'd rate the scalability at about an eight or a nine out of ten.

We have ten employees that work directly with the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have been satisfied with technical support, they have been helpful and responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use solutions such as Juniper, Cisco Meraki, Ruckus, and Extreme. We are an independent integrator company, so we use the best solution for the customer.

How was the initial setup?

The time it takes to install the solution depends on the number of the EPs. We are speaking about the settings, not the manual installation. If we are speaking about the configuration, it takes one day in most cases.

We have a team of ten that can handle deployment and maintenance tasks. They are all engineers.

What about the implementation team?

We handle the implementation process for our clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is reasonably priced as compared to, for example, Cisco, which is much more expensive.

Customers need to pay a yearly licensing fee.

What other advice do I have?

Every month we have different installation projects. Sometimes we use Ruckus if the customer is satisfied with this solution. Usually, we suggest things to the customer based on if the price and if a client is price-conscious they tend to choose this, as opposed to Cisco, which is more expensive.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. We have been happy with it so far.

I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

A stable and scalable solution that lets you visualize the network, manage it through a cell phone, and check the quality of a signal
Pros and Cons
  • "I can manage the network through a cell phone, which is a plus from my side. I am also able to visualize the network. I can also check the quality of the signal for different clients that are currently connected and see whether the quality is excellent, moderate, or poor. Sometimes, I can even adjust the signal strength."
  • "They could add more flexibility for switching over to another radio if a radio is poor. I am not able to change the radios from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz. I am yet to figure it out. I want it to be a bit more explicit or a bit easier to change radios. When you shut it down, you lose some of the information. It would be good to have a controller where I can store the information, and later on, I can retrieve the information. There should be some form of small storage to keep the information. Its price should also be improved. Its price is currently quite high."

What is our primary use case?

Ruckus Wireless was deployed almost four or five years ago for our Wi-Fi network, but we were not using it for our highest metric. We recently started using it for our internal network. We are using Ruckus Wireless for the metric that is connecting the top management to the internet.

What is most valuable?

I can manage the network through a cell phone, which is a plus from my side. I am also able to visualize the network. I can also check the quality of the signal for different clients that are currently connected and see whether the quality is excellent, moderate, or poor. Sometimes, I can even adjust the signal strength.

What needs improvement?

They could add more flexibility for switching over to another radio if a radio is poor.

Its price is currently quite high.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Based on the experience so far, it is stable. I'm judging based on the experience of the people who are using it. I am using it for the top management, and I have also put an order for more APs.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. You can connect the APs through a mesh without using cables, which makes it easy to scale out.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't contacted them yet because I can handle the challenges. If I get something that is beyond what I can handle, I will get in touch.

How was the initial setup?

It was okay. I didn't need any training for the setup. You simply go through the manual. I saw a video just once and then installed it.

What about the implementation team?

I did it on my own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a good product, but it is pricey. In terms of the pricing, it is a bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution, but they should reduce the price.

I would rate Ruckus Wireless an eight out of ten.

Enables us to give our internal employees the ability to access our internal resources while giving our visitors access to a guest version of the network
Pros and Cons
  • "Once we got it set up and configured we've had little issues and it's been relatively stable. We use it across all seven of our offices and they all have the exact same wifi setup so when I go into any office I can get on the network and access resources."
  • "o make it a ten I would like the ability to replace it if we do have a faulty device. Getting one faster might be helpful. I would like to have autoconfiguration where instead of having to configure a new network, we would be able to push all configuration out a little easier with the interface."

What is our primary use case?

We use Ruckus Wireless to provide wireless access to our employees and our clients in our offices. It works fine.

How has it helped my organization?

The multiple network access has improved my organization. It gives visitors the functionality so they can check their own networks and their VPNs and browse the internet. At the same time, it gives our employees the ability to go unplugged instead of having to be hardwired to access network resources.

What is most valuable?

The ability to have multiple wireless networks with different settings is the most valuable feature. We can give our internal employees the ability to access our internal resources while giving our visitors access to a guest version of the network which only gives them access to the internet but they can't connect to any of our internal resources.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable, it runs with no problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We use it in all of our offices, it scales fine. We have central control of all the offices that they all have the exact same wifi configuration that we can manage centrally.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We switched because we needed something that was a little more empire scale instead of little small hotspots located all around different wireless networks at different offices. Our people are always asking to connect and want to expand the capability of giving guests access to the internet while still protecting the infrastructure.

The first criteria we consider when considering a solution is responsiveness. They should also have good customer service and support team. We consider the stability of the platform and make sure that it's going to work and serve with minimal issues.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward. My network guy ]is the one to test it and he did the setup and got it up and running pretty quickly. He switched out our old system with multiple access points all around pretty quickly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at Cisco and Aruba but Ruckus pricing was better.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it an eight out of ten. To make it a ten I would like the ability to replace it if we do have a faulty device. Getting one faster might be helpful. I would like to have autoconfiguration where instead of having to configure a new network, we would be able to push all configuration out a little easier with the interface.

Once we got it set up and configured we've had little issues and it's been relatively stable. We use it across all seven of our offices and they all have the exact same wifi setup so when I go into any office I can get on the network and access resources.

Adaptive antenna arrays allow for excellent performance in challenging environments

What is our primary use case?

  • Wireless platform for user and medical production devices throughout the enterprise
  • Also serves guests wirelessly.

How has it helped my organization?

Better AP capabilities in tough RF environment. We upgraded from a Cisco wireless network and saw a marked improvement. Near flawless VoWiFi using Spectralink phones.

What is most valuable?

Adaptive antenna arrays (and corresponding algorithms) allow for excellent performance in challenging environments.

What needs improvement?

It's always good to have more analytics and reporting right on the controller when possible. However, Ruckus already has pretty good capabilities in that area as well as an excellent big data analytics engine with SmartCell Insight.

For how long have I used the solution?

More than five years.

Allows us to deploy systems and not deal as much with support, because it just works
Pros and Cons
    • "I think that Web management, global management, could be improved. Unfortunately, there's not one solution that does everything. There are something like six different solutions, and each of them do something better than the others. Unfortunately, there's not one global solution that does everything."
    • "Mounting options for outdoor access points, I think they could easily improve on that."

What is our primary use case?

Mainly for large, residential home automation systems.

How has it helped my organization?

It allows us to deploy systems and not deal as much with support, because it just works.

    What is most valuable?

    • It's reliable.
    • The company is amazing - the support and service are amazing.
    • It outperforms anything else on the market.
    • It's easy to use.

    What needs improvement?

Mounting options for outdoor access points, I think they could easily improve on that.

I think that Web management, global management, could be improved. Unfortunately, there's not one solution that does everything. There are something like six different solutions, and each of them do something better than the others.

For how long have I used the solution?

    More than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Not at all. Scalability is one of the things that they excel at, beyond everybody else.

How are customer service and technical support?

It depends. It's hard for us to say because we have a very close relationship with them, so we have back-channel access to their top people. In fact, we're the first ever gold service partner, so we basically are the support now. For any systems that we sell, we're the direct support for that product.

I think if you're a new person starting out, you can get close relationships with the local sales engineers, which is great. When I first started, the first time I even looked at the product, a sales engineer met me out in the field, took some demo gear, put it up, showed me everything. Even within that first year, I had an engineer walk three high-rise courthouses for Miami Dade County; walked every single floor with me. I was a new partner and they did that for me, which is amazing.

I think the phone support is okay, if you're just a regular partner. And it works. I would say if somebody got to know their local rep, that would be the best way to get help if you really need it in a bind.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used to use Cisco's enterprise wireless, but I kept hearing about Ruckus and I just couldn't believe that some upstart company was better than Cisco. Once we started using it, we saw that it outperformed Cisco and, on top of that, the difference in configuration between Cisco and Ruckus is night and day. Cisco is a pain to configure, where Ruckus is pretty much already set up out of the box. There are a few tweaks here or there, but the configuration time is 10 times faster with Ruckus versus Cisco.

An engineer met me out in the field, put some gear up, and it just blew the Cisco away. And it was just so much easier to configure, that it was a no-brainer. It was cheaper. We had better coverage, it was more reliable, it was faster, and it was easier to configure. It's one of the best companies I've ever dealt with in my life. I have nothing but good things to say about them, which is the only reason I'm doing this review, because I think they deserve it.

    How was the initial setup?

    It's very straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's definitely a good value. It's more expensive than some of the other offerings out there, but when you compare it to other enterprise-class gear, it's very well priced. And the beauty of it is, because it has better range because of their patented BeamFlex - which is the way they can send and receive and listen to signals - you can actually use fewer access points. That means that it's a cheaper overall project.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Aruba, Meraki - and this was Meraki before Cisco, at the time. But since then we always look to see what else is out there, see if something's better, and so far we haven't found anything. Once something better comes along, we'll use it because we only want to use the best for our clients.

What other advice do I have?

    Don't wait, do it now.
