We are an ISP and mobile operator. We provide customers with almost everything there is to do with wireless. I am also currently doing the whitepaper from our company.
Senior Wireless Engineer at FASTtelco
A stable wireless solution with good coverage and speed.
Pros and Cons
- "The speed between client to client is really nice. It is better than any other vendor, but officially, I cannot say that to people."
- "I have not got any major problem using Ruckus, but the price and technical support could be better."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Personally, I like it, and I try to encourage people to go for Ruckus because I find the Ruckus coverage is fine. The speed between client to client is really nice. It is better than any other vendor, but officially, I cannot say that to people.
What needs improvement?
I have not got any major problem using Ruckus, but the price and technical support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Ruckus Wireless for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable product. One of the R500 Access Points accidentally went underwater. Water was flowing inside the access point. I just kept outside it in front of a fan for two days, and it is working again. It is very nice, and I don't think any other brand will give me this kind of durability.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support could be better. About two months ago, I received a complaint from one of our customers about the R500 Wireless Access Point. One of the radios was flat dynamically. But after reconfiguration, the controllers and everything else were fine. I opened a ticket with Ruckus, but it was not very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are also an Aruba and Cisco partner.
How was the initial setup?
I am in love with Ruckus because it's very easy to configure. Even after the demo and installation, it is easy for me to convince the customer, and sometimes, they can even do it on their own.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price could be better. Normally, if you find customers paying for cost-effective wireless solutions, Ruckus devices are a little expensive compared to other vendors. Even if I ask them to go for Ruckus, they will choose Aruba and sometimes Cisco Small Business Solutions because of the price. The license is paid on a yearly basis.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend Ruckus Wireless to potential customers.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give Ruckus Wireless a nine.

A stable and scalable solution that lets you visualize the network, manage it through a cell phone, and check the quality of a signal
Pros and Cons
- "I can manage the network through a cell phone, which is a plus from my side. I am also able to visualize the network. I can also check the quality of the signal for different clients that are currently connected and see whether the quality is excellent, moderate, or poor. Sometimes, I can even adjust the signal strength."
- "They could add more flexibility for switching over to another radio if a radio is poor. I am not able to change the radios from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz. I am yet to figure it out. I want it to be a bit more explicit or a bit easier to change radios. When you shut it down, you lose some of the information. It would be good to have a controller where I can store the information, and later on, I can retrieve the information. There should be some form of small storage to keep the information. Its price should also be improved. Its price is currently quite high."
What is our primary use case?
Ruckus Wireless was deployed almost four or five years ago for our Wi-Fi network, but we were not using it for our highest metric. We recently started using it for our internal network. We are using Ruckus Wireless for the metric that is connecting the top management to the internet.
What is most valuable?
I can manage the network through a cell phone, which is a plus from my side. I am also able to visualize the network. I can also check the quality of the signal for different clients that are currently connected and see whether the quality is excellent, moderate, or poor. Its price should also be improved. Its price is currently quite high.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Based on the experience so far, it is stable. I'm judging based on the experience of the people who are using it. I am using it for the top management, and I have also put an order for more APs.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. You can connect the APs through a mesh without using cables, which makes it easy to scale out.
How are customer service and technical support?
I haven't contacted them yet because I can handle the challenges. If I get something that is beyond what I can handle, I will get in touch.
How was the initial setup?
It was okay. I didn't need any training for the setup. You simply go through the manual. I saw a video just once and then installed it.
What about the implementation team?
I did it on my own.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is a good product, but it is pricey. In terms of the pricing, it is a bit expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution, but they should reduce the price.
I would rate Ruckus Wireless an eight out of ten.

What needs improvement?
The Ruckus platform in general could be improved — it could be more user-friendly.
Ruckus should be more customizable, especially regarding KPIs and analytics.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Ruckus Wireless for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Ruckus is both stable and scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The customer support is average; overall, it's pretty good. But most of the companies in this area provide the same technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty easy. Deployment only takes a few minutes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Ruckus is an expensive solution.
What other advice do I have?

High capacity, good stability, good scalability, and good support
Pros and Cons
- "Its high capacity is the most valuable. It is also very stable. It is way more stable than other platforms."
- "Its security can be improved. It doesn't use Wireless IPS. Therefore, we have to combine WatchGuard that uses a Wireless IPS but is a separate solution. These two solutions work in conjunction. We are using the WatchGuard as a sensor and Wireless IPS, and Ruckus is like a platform that is used for the connectivity of the network."
What is our primary use case?
We are a reseller and integrator. We use this solution when our clients have a lot of users or devices that need to be connected to one IP. We use it for a high capacity of connections.
What is most valuable?
Its high capacity is the most valuable. It is also very stable. It is way more stable than other platforms.
What needs improvement?
Its security can be improved. It doesn't use Wireless IPS. Therefore, we have to combine WatchGuard that uses a Wireless IPS but is a separate solution. These two solutions work in conjunction. We are using the WatchGuard as a sensor and Wireless IPS, and Ruckus is like a platform that is used for the connectivity of the network.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for the last ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Its stability is very good. We use the switches, and the switches have more stability than the wireless.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It has good scalability. We can use ten appliances with an AP. We can migrate to the SmartZone or Cloud. You can use the same appliance initially when you are a small business, and you can keep on using it as your business grows. Its scalability is very dynamic as compared to Aruba Instant On, where you have to use different appliances when your company starts to grow.
Most of our clients who are using this solution are small and medium companies. We have a few clients who are large companies.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is very good. I was recently trying the Zone demonstration of cloud, and they responded to and answered my questions. Their support was agile. They have documentation, manuals, and videos on YouTube.
How was the initial setup?
Its initial setup was easy. If we are using a common line, it is not difficult to deploy Ruckus Wireless.
The deployment duration depends on the size of the company. For a small company, we can deploy this in minutes. For a large company, it can take a lot more time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Ubiquiti and Aruba Instant On are good for small businesses in terms of cost than Ruckus Wireless.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our clients evaluate Ubiquiti and Aruba Instant On. Both these solutions are designed for small businesses. They are good for small businesses in terms of cost and capabilities. They have very few capabilities as compared to Ruckus Wireless, but they are very good for small businesses. Ruckus Wireless also has a better connection capacity than other brands. Ruckus Wireless is suitable for medium or large companies, and Ubiquiti and Aruba Instant On are suitable for small companies.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution depending on the needs and the size of the company. For a higher connection capacity, I would recommend Ruckus Wireless. If you don't require a higher capacity, I would recommend Aruba Instant On or Ubiquiti. Ruckus Wireless is suitable for medium or large companies, and Ubiquiti and Aruba Instant On are suitable for small companies.
I would rate Ruckus Wireless a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Easy to set up, simple to use, and the Unleashed software is helpful
Pros and Cons
- "I really like Ruckus Unleashed, which is the feature that provides a quick solution for me to control the APs."
- "I would like the option to not have my logs deleted when I shut down the device so that I will be able to troubleshoot."
What is our primary use case?
We originally installed Ruckus for our public Wi-Fi, but we are now using it for our internal network. We had used it in the public Wi-Fi for at least three or four years before implementing it for our network, which was about three months ago.
Right now, we are using it for online connections and applications like Zoom and Google Meet.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is simplicity.
I really like Ruckus Unleashed, which is the feature that provides a quick solution for me to control the APs.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see more reports for the Unleashed feature, as my bosses require these and it would be best if I could include more.
There are times when I have trouble connecting and I would like to view the logs, but when I shut down Ruckus, the logs are deleted. Once the AP comes back up, the information will be gone. I would like the option to not have my logs deleted when I shut down the device so that I will be able to troubleshoot.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Ruckus Wireless for at least three or four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far, so good. I haven't had any challenges. It is being used by my directors and I have asked them to give me feedback. So far, I'm not getting any complaints.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For the smaller network, which is just the company directors, we have about 20 who are on the network. The public Wi-Fi has a very large number of users.
I am planning to increase the number of APs once the directors have assessed it. I expect to buy more access points for other areas, such as marketing, where I want to put high-density and high-capacity APs.
How are customer service and technical support?
Because of the simplicity and the connection, I have never had to contact technical support. I have been able to do everything on my own.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy for me to set up.
What about the implementation team?
I completed the installation and setup on my own.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The setup that I have at the moment does not require licensing, although I am not sure whether a bigger project will mean that I have to spend more.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
With respect to our internal network, we are still using one as a control and testing the system to see if it's going to give us the solution we want.
What other advice do I have?
This is a product that I can recommend to others.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Asst. Manager Technical at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
User-friendly with an easy setup but needs to diversify its hardware options
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is very user-friendly."
- "They lack in some hardware stratification."
What is our primary use case?
We are a distributor of Ruckus. We are actually maintaining their channel partner in the Pakistan region. Our business model is that we create partnerships where we are the retailer for Ruckus and the partners going to sell Ruckus to the end customer. We are actually the box mover for them. We act as a bridge between Ruckus and end customers.
We are box movers. We handle all the deployments in Pakistan, across industries including in the education sector, in the military sector, in health organizations, hospitality, etc. We cover every vertical. Whenever Ruckus is deployed, it goes through our channels. We are the ones who can provide the boxes to end customers. There are many use cases. Thousands of boxes are shipped from us and deployed in different market segments.
What is most valuable?
Their wireless products and their switching LANs have been the most valuable aspects for us.
Their hardware, such as their access point controller and their ICX switches, are great.
The solution is very user-friendly.
The initial setup is easy.
What needs improvement?
They lack in some hardware stratification. They do no have a complete product line with respect to customer requirements. Their product line is limited and does not have the options which the end customer is actually looking for. For example, if a customer is looking for some redundant power supply switches, they have that option available in their mid-range or high-end switches. They don't have that option in their low-end or entry-level switches. That is the main problem we are facing when we are proposing a Ruckus solution to an end customer. That customer actually wants redundant power. If the customer wants the redundant power supplies in their entry levels switches, Ruckus doesn't have that option for them.
The same problem exists with its wireless platform. Some hardware limitations are there, which definitely need to be addressed. They need more controller options and more hardware options. They just have two models, ZoneDirector and SmartZone. They need to put some other hardware options on the market to fulfill the customer requirements.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution since about 2007 or 2008. It's been about a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. We haven't had any issues in that regard. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Ruckus solutions are scalable. When you talk about flexibility, their solutions are very flexible. A single access point can work on any controller. As in wireless, your access point should be worked as a standalone with a controller or as a controller-less environment.
Their access point is flexible enough to work in any sort of deployment. They can work as a standalone, they work on their different controller platform. Their same access point can configure to the Ruckus cloud.
They are scalable in the sense that you can add access points to their controller. Switches have their own scalability and flexibility option. Basically, the solution is 100% scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is good. They're very responsive to any technical issues. Their tech team is good enough on the technology side, so they can resolve the issues in a timely manner. I would give them 70% to 60% marks in terms of knowledge and responsiveness. Of course, there is some room for improvement. All in all, it's an average support experience.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex at all. It's very easy and very straightforward.
It's very user friendly, so it's not hard to set everything up and deployment is pretty quick.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If I compare Ruckus licensing costs with the market leader, they're on the cheaper side. Our competitors are actually charging more for support and licensing fees to end customers. However, Ruckus charges less for both licenses and support. They are not expensive when you compare them to the competition. They are very cheap.
What other advice do I have?
We are a Ruckus distributor.
We are proposing the Ruckus solution to our customers with the latest software versions, not the older versions. Whichever the latest version is, we propose them to our customer. We are always working on the latest version and all the products in the Ruckus, like switching, wireless, software, etc. They do have some different software versions. However, we are working on the latest, stronger versions.
We use both the cloud and on-premises deployment models.
I definitely recommend the Ruckus solution, however, there are pros and cons to every brand. Ruckus does have some benefits and they are very strong in their RF technology. If you talk about their switching side, they are the pioneers of that. Their switching platform is stable. They are using some proprietary technologies like BeamFlex and ChannelFly.
They are providing greater flexibility alongside the best scalability. They're great.
Overall, I would rate the solution seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: Distributor
Store Associate at a engineering company with 11-50 employees
Easy to use and manage with pretty good scalability
Pros and Cons
- "They have all the features in terms of wireless technology. They have most of the features already there in the controller and their wireless system."
- "The pricing needs to be more competitive. They need to re-examine their business model and see if there is a way to provide their service at a cheaper cost."
What is our primary use case?
Generally, customers look for wireless connectivity for their users and guests systems as well. Most of the customer feel comfortable with Ruckus due to the fact that they have SMS based authentication features and an OPB based authentication within the hardware.
What is most valuable?
The solution is very easy to use and manage.
The solution is quite flexible, which is a great selling point for our clients.
They are competitive if you compare their capabilities with Cisco and other competitors.
They have all the features in terms of wireless technology. They have most of the features already there in the controller and their wireless system.
What needs improvement?
The pricing needs to be more competitive. They need to re-examine their business model and see if there is a way to provide their service at a cheaper cost.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for at least four or five years at this point. It's been a while.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of the hardware, the stability could improve a bit. However, in terms of configuration and reconfiguration, it is quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution can easily scale and expand. If a company needs to make it larger, they can do so quite easily.
How are customer service and technical support?
We're pretty technical, so we can assist our clients. However, when we or others need to reach out to technical support, it's remote via telephone. We're pretty satisfied with their service. I'd rate them nine out of ten overall. It's pretty good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use different products. Occasionally, a client may want to use Cisco. I'm not, however, too familiar with Aruba. Whatever we use depends on customer requirements and not our personal preference. I find Cisco to be a bit costlier. That said, it has lots of features on offer.
How was the initial setup?
The difficulty or ease of set up depends largely on a client's environment and infrastructure.
It takes, at maximum, one day to deploy. You can get it up and running pretty quickly. If the network is there, I can configure any IP from anywhere.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Their pricing is quite high. It can be higher than Cisco. It all depends on the features a client needs.
What other advice do I have?
We're Ruckus partners.
We use a variety of different versions of the solution. We also can deploy the solution both on the cloud or on-premises, depending on what our clients require.
I personally deal more on the side of project management, although I do occasionally also do technical evaluations.
This solution works best for SMBs. Most of our clients are medium-sized organizations, typically in the university and education sector. We also handle some big nightclubs.
On a scale from one to ten, I'd rate it at a nine. We definitely haven't had any issues with it.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

CEO at Comutaz Systems Limited
Extremely reliable, stable and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "Very reliable."
- "Could be more user friendly."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for this soluton is for AP. I'm the CEO of the company.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of this solution is its reliability.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see the solution become a little more user friendly. For additional features to the product, it would be helpful if they would introduce a self-healing mechanism and configuration.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Ruckus is completely stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability for Ruckus is excellent.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is fine. Our main issue is the difficulty with the different time zone so there's sometimes a delay in response.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In addition to Ruckus we are also using Cisco Wireless LAN. It's not that one is better than the other, each has a different focus. For Cisco it's teaching and for Ruckus it's AP.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's difficult to be satisfied with licensing costs. We are an African company and we always get a raw deal. We don't get the discounts that we'd like.
What other advice do I have?
I would take Ruckus over Meraki any day. Meraki is quite poor.
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
