The most valuable features of VMware Workspace ONE are security and having support for all the latest features that are coming out from Apple. They're pretty fast at adopting new features. This is one of the most vital aspects of mobile device management systems.

What needs improvement?

VMware Workspace ONE platform offers support for Mac Books and we see that there is some room for improvement in that area versus all the products out there.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

VMware Workspace ONE is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Sometimes the first line support is a bit troublesome. It's not until you talk to a real engineer do you receive the answers to the issues you might be faced with. We had the same issue with Microsoft support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of VMware Workspace ONE is reasonable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Microsoft Cloud and Office 365.

What other advice do I have?

Right now we don't see there's an MDM solution out there that's better than VMware Workspace ONE. It makes sense that companies are leaning more and more towards the Microsoft Cloud and Office 365, and they do offer Intune as well. That makes sense in that context, but if you look at the benefits of the MDM solutions versus each other, from what we've done in our research and analysis, VMware is still the best tool on the market.

We have a couple of issues that we have seen every now and then, but it's always the same issues and it's not something that's related to VMware. It's typically from our own underlying infrastructure components that are not really reliable.

I rate VMware Workspace ONE a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Gives us more control over what is necessary on the end-user side
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of the solution is that it enables us to remotely manage the devices, which is its purpose, and to push applications to the mobile devices from the portal."

What is our primary use case?

We make use of DM Solutions and do so strictly for users, moving devices and laptops.

How has it helped my organization?

As we have been manually provisioning everything for end-users, the solution gives us more control over what is necessary on the end-user side and allows us to regularly provide them with updates from a single place.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution is that it enables us to remotely manage the devices, which is its purpose, and to push applications to the mobile devices from the portal.

    What needs improvement?

No areas for room for improvement come to mind. The VM is pretty good and I can't think of any areas that are lacking. I was just comparing VMware Workspace ONE to other solutions and I can say we are pretty happy with it for the moment. For the time being, I cannot think of any features that should be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using VMware Workspace ONE for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are no issues with scalability. We can do so at any time.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was okay. It's straightforward.

As it has been two years, I cannot recall the implementation strategy. I do recall that it was straightforward and took us a couple of days.

    What about the implementation team?

We made use of a managed service provider, utilizing a system integrator who worked with us. It was helpful and we had a good experience. Our needs were understood and the deployment went very smoothly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For the moment, we have a multi-year contract, meaning that we cannot go with a different solution at this time even if the price should prove more favorable. Only next year can we evaluate the price.

What other advice do I have?

There are 250 users in our organization who make use of the solution.

I rate VMware Workspace ONE as a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

    Microsoft Azure

Ease of use is a key feature and good technical support is available
    Pros and Cons
    • "A very easy to use solution."
    • "Cost of licensing is quite high."

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use the solution for deployed iPhones and tablets. I'm a telecom and mobile device support analyst.

    What is most valuable?

Once you get to know the solution it's quite simple to use. It's really a matter of pushing profiles. Ease of use is a good aspect.

    What needs improvement?

The main negative issue is the cost of licensing. In terms of additional features, it's hard to say because I know there are other options out there, add-ons and other things that are within workspace and available, but I haven't had time to investigate. We're not going to be supported after next year.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

That area is all connected with the upgrades. We've had some issues and we've had to have a contractor come in to help us scale up.

How are customer service and technical support?

We're in contact with customer support all the time and they are pretty good on the phone, Because they have a 24-hour support desk, we always get somebody in India and sometimes there's a bit of a language barrier but on the whole, they're good.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't deal with the licensing myself but we've got 1,500 devices so you can get an idea of what the cost is going to be. We have 500 users in the company.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

Enables us to manage all of the devices on our campus through one central service
    Pros and Cons
    • "We used to have a system before, Mac OS Open Directory server and this open directory became obsolete because Apple decided to stop the enterprise market, so there was no other alternative for us to use. We chose this to replace the open directory and we found that it has many more features than the previous solution. We totally rely on it right now to manage all the devices on campus."

What is our primary use case?

We are a large school managing Mac devices on all levels. We manage the iPads, push education through the iPads, and AirWatch works great. We use it to do a lot of tasks for the school work - manage teachers devices, student devices, and lab computer devices.

How has it helped my organization?

We used to have a system before, Mac OS Open Directory server and this open directory became obsolete because Apple decided to stop the enterprise market, so there was no other alternative for us to use. We chose this to replace the open directory and we found that it has many more features than the previous solution. We totally rely on it right now to manage all the devices on campus.

      What is most valuable?

Managing Mac Devices with profiles. Pushing Apps to iOS devices.

      What needs improvement?

The accuracy of the management function has room for improvement. It's important to us because sometimes we send a profile to the machine and it's pending but doesn't reach. And we have to go manually and push it. Also, Chromebook management needs a lot to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

      One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's very stable despite the accuracy component that I want them to focus on improving.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is great for us. When we evaluated other solutions, they didn't meet our scalability needs.

We have it deployed have on our entire server. All of our accounts propagate to 1500 users. It's great to have all of our users being managed by one central service.

How are customer service and technical support?

It's a newer solution and I use it at school so I always rely on their technical support. Sometimes they are great, but sometimes they are not.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I switched to AirWatch because it is compatible with different platforms like Windows, Mac, iOS devices, Chromebooks devices. The previous solution we were using did support Mac ONLY.

      How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward with the consultant's help, but without, I couldn't do it by myself. The documentation is not enough to do the implementation of the product. You still need a consultant to guide you.

The deployment changes every year and the policies change every year. The time it takes to deploy depends on how many devices you have. If you're like ourselves and have a ton of devices, it takes a month to finish the deployment.

For our implementation strategy, we moved on the groups of the policies that were assigned for each. Our strategy was to bend different policies on each so we can get the most of the features we needed to apply to each group.

      What about the implementation team?

We used a consultant from France. He was excellent and guided us through the setup of the contact and the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you purchase it for one year, it is very expensive. If you get it for three years or up to five years, then you can bargain a better price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

      Jamf Casper.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a nine out of ten. They need to make it so that you can add more tools to work so that it can cover all of the management tools that you need to manage all of the devices.

I highly recommend AirWatch because it covers the compatibility issue. For an organization like us, we have the same platform and want to manage multiple devices, and it is the best solution for us right now.

This is a great tool from a reporting point of view
      Pros and Cons
      • "We recently integrated Workspace ONE with our intelligence report, and this is a great tool from a reporting point of view. In our daily business, we get several requests from businesses to provide an Adobe request for monitoring, whether it is for Android or iOS devices. The main benefit of this tool is that we can exclude the report for applications."
      • "There are some bugs that our team needs to work around. It required some API integration required because visitor integration was not there. For example, we are currently working on a tunnel issue, and VMware doesn't have this solution."

      What is most valuable?

We recently integrated Workspace ONE with our intelligence report, and this is a great tool from a reporting point of view. In our daily business, we get several requests from businesses to provide an Adobe request for monitoring, whether it is for Android or iOS devices. The main benefit of this tool is that we can exclude the report for applications. Another benefit of Workspace ONE is that it supports many devices, which is a major benefit for us.

      What needs improvement?

There are some bugs that our team needs to work around. It required some API integration required because visitor integration was not there. For example, we are currently working on a tunnel issue, and VMware doesn't have this solution. I think the R&D team is working on this, and I think this is something they need to look into because from the Android point of view, this is the major security tool, and these features need to work as expected.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

      Workspace ONE is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Once Workspace ONE is configured, the scalability is good.

How are customer service and support?

I rate VMware technical support eight out of 10.

      How was the initial setup?

Setting up Workspace ONE is straightforward. In December 2020, I worked with the VMware deployment team, and we deployed this in 10 to 15 days for all components, whether it is Workspace ONE Access or Okta integration. It's easy to use, migrate, and configure. Deployment and maintenance require four to five people, including two solution architects and two or three engineers.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Workspace ONE eight out of 10. If someone comes to me, I would advise them to go with this tool rather than Intune. There are several benefits, and it doesn't cost much compared to Intune. Intune doesn't have all the components and integration we require.

Quick to deploy, easy to set up, and offers good remote device management
      Pros and Cons
      • "The initial setup is easy and the deployment doesn't take too long."
      • "The pricing could always be better."

What is our primary use case?

The product is a DM solution - a device management solution. It's for our users, for moving devices and laptops.

How has it helped my organization?

We have been manually provisioning everything for end-users, however, with this tool, now we have more control over the items on the end-user side and we can regularly update them from one place. It makes everything much easier.

      What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of the solution is the ability to remotely manage the devices. That's what it is meant to do. We can push applications to mobile devices from the portal.

Overall, we've been very happy with VMware.

The initial setup is easy and the deployment doesn't take too long.

      What needs improvement?

I don't see any such areas where we are lacking. I was just doing the evaluation of other products to see if they have something else. However, this isn't missing anything, even when you look at the competition.

The pricing could always be better. It would be nicer if they were cheaper and more competitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution over the last 12 months at least. I've been using the solution for the last three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution has always been very good. there are no bugs or glitches It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales quite well. That's not a problem at all. If a company would like to scale the solution it can do so.

Currently, we have about 250 users on the solution.

      How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's very straightforward. A company shouldn't have any issues with the initial setup process.

The deployment took a few days to roll out. We did the implementation about two years ago now, and therefore it's hard to recall exactly what our deployment strategy was at that time.

      What about the implementation team?

We had a systems integrator assist us with the initial deployment. We did not completely handle everything in-house by ourselves.

The experience was good. They were able to understand what we need and they deployed it very smoothly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a multi-year contract, however, we'd like the costs to be lowered if possible. Next year we plan to revisit everything and do a price evaluation.

What other advice do I have?

We're a customer and end-users. We've worked with resellers in the past.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate the solution at a nine. Its capabilities are good and we've been quite happy with it overall.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

      Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A simple and secure enterprise platform that delivers and manages apps
      Pros and Cons
      • "VMware Workspace ONE has been stable so far."
      • "It's not accurate enough when it comes to sending items to end-users."

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use VMware Workspace ONE for managing Macs and iOS devices.

      What needs improvement?

Although it's supposed to be compatible with Chromebooks and Windows, we find that it's quite limited. I think it doesn't work properly with Chromebooks because you need a Google license to manage them. For this reason, we didn't end up using AirWatch with Chromebooks.

The overall accuracy could also be improved. It's not accurate enough when it comes to sending items to end-users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using VMware Workspace ONE for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

VMware Workspace ONE has been stable so far.

How are customer service and technical support?

My main concern with the support is that they don't have a team. You always get a freelancer — often there are difficulties relating to language barriers. Sometimes they are experts, sometimes they are not.

      What about the implementation team?

I didn't do the initial setup by myself. I had to hire a consultant and some other specialists to do it for me.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

VMware Workspace ONE is not cheap; it's quite expensive. However, in the end, they gave us a reasonable price.

What other advice do I have?

If you have Mac or SNIS devices, it works fine and the price will be reasonable. If you have a lot of money to invest, there are better options out there.

Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give VMware Workspace ONE a rating of eight.

There should be more powerful features available for Mac, like what GEMS has already introduced — especially in regards to the level of system updates, and software updates. It should be easier to manage things, especially for Mac. If they improved this, I would give them a higher rating.

      Pros and Cons
      • "The feature that we find most valuable is the corporate email pushing."
      • "The mobile device repository is somewhat difficult to manage with a large user base."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use cases are mobile device tracking and corporate email push.

How has it helped my organization?

It provides a central repository of the corporation's different mobile devices.

      What is most valuable?

The feature that we find most valuable is the corporate email pushing. It seems quite straightforward and efficient (most of the time).

      What needs improvement?

The mobile device repository is somewhat difficult to manage with a large user base.

I would like to see support for "remote wipe" in the case device of theft.

For how long have I used the solution?

      One to three years.
