We use Veritas NetBackup as a backup solution for virtually everything. Everything you can imagine can be backed up with this solution.
Within our organization, there are roughly 2,000 employees. We definitely plan to continue using this solution.

The virtual SAN is good. All backup products have the same features but it's all about your ability with the code when you are using them. It's durable — we achieve what we expect from it.
It's not a user-friendly solution. It's a little bit complicated. The UI is not very friendly.
I have been using this solution for six or seven years.
Veritas is stable and flexible. When you're talking about virtualization backup, Veritas is great in a secure environment. It's totally virtualized. It's a good solution.
This solution is very scalable.
The support isn't that great. It could be improved. They should have a faster response time.
The initial installation is quite straightforward. Overall, installation takes roughly one hour.
I've installed this solution many times by myself. If you don't have experience with backup solutions, I think it may be challenging for a beginner.
Our technical team consists of four people, including myself, that handle the installation process.
I am currently evaluating NetBackup as it's required for use on the cloud.
I trust Veritas. I would recommend this solution to a friend or to any company. But remember, what you'll get from it depends on your personal ability.
Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight. If the support was faster and the solution was more user-friendly, I would give it a higher rating.
It is used to back up the hypervisor. In terms of its version, we keep it updated from time to time, but we are not using its latest version currently.
Deduplication is quite efficient. It is not a complex product. It is quite simple.
It should be able to integrate with the cloud. If we leverage a cloud in the future for backup, there should be very fast help and more options for customers to choose from.
We have been using this solution for many years.
It is quite stable.
It is scalable. We have less than ten users, and they are mostly the IT staff. We don't have many users because we use a tool to back up from the central file servers. Users don't directly use it to back up on their own, but when a user needs to restore something, they come to IT.
We have a local partner for support, and they contact Veritas. Our local partner is quite okay and experienced in the product.
We were using Backup Instant, which is a smaller version of the Veritas NetBackup solution. We didn't use any other solution.
Its installation is quite straightforward. The deployment can take a week if you have a clear backup requirement.
We have a consultant to help. If you are doing an installation that is related to the hypervisor, you need an engineer for support because of the connected drivers and equipment.
Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses.
We plan to keep using this solution. I would rate Veritas NetBackup an eight out of ten.
Our use case really depends on what we need at a particular time so we use the solution for online productives and we also do incrementals. We are customers of Veritas and I'm a senior systems support analyst.
The value of this solution is that it's a complete solution and the fact that we can do almost every standard process including backups, is interesting and better than the competition. Everything is under one console as opposed to some of the other solutions whereby you can use them to do key backups but when it comes to the client you can't monitor everything on the console. This product is already compatible with most of our servers, it's already doing backup on disc, on tapes, on other peer servers.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that can be added to the solution. Our real issue is the pricing and it's a recurring cost, so it's not something that will go away any time soon.
I've been using this solution for 10 years.
This is a stable solution.
The solution is scalable. The only time we need to do anything is when we're upgrading to the next version and there may be major components that need to be looked at.
The current solution is stable and we haven't needed to contact the support.
I have previously tried a couple of different solutions. But for the time being, it's really one of the most complete solutions. We were using another solution from Symantec for backup purposes. Prior to that, we had also tried another vendor solution, which was for an IBM solution. For a time, we also used Veeam and we have been looking into either implementing Infrascale or Commvault. For the time being, it looks like Commvault would be the replacement for Veritas. It's a cheaper solution.
The initial setup was very straightforward and took about 15 minutes. We had help from the vendor. There isn't much maintenance required, only if there's an issue with something. We are small company, so it's not a problem - we do backups of the servers and almost everything that we have on our infrastructure. When we carry out the backup for the exchange server, we do backups for everyone in the company, so it's not just one specific user or a couple of users. There are three admins in the company.
I don't know the licensing costs off the top of my head, but it's pretty high compared to other solutions out there. There are also additional costs for things like support.
As a technical solution, this product is right up there. I would recommend the solution but it would depend on the use cases and the load. Depending on the load, there might be other, more cost-effective solutions.
I would rate this solution a nine out of 10.
Overall, the solution is great. We have no complaints in terms of the quality it provides.
We have been using Veritas NetBackup in our environment for the past 10 years. Although the features don't change much, it's extremely user friendly for us. We have widely deployed the solution as our sole backup solution for the past few years.
The solution offers a lot of really great features that organizations can utilize and take advantage of.
The only pain point we have with this solution is the cost. It's very expensive. In fact, it's so expensive we are looking for other platforms. We want to move away from it in order to save our organization costs.
We've been using the solution for ten years. It's been about a decade since we first started using the solution.
We are growing, and, at the same time, we are also doing some sort of consolidation in Singapore. Due to the fact that we are growing at a very rapid speed, we are looking at other products in the market that can deal with the big amount of data that we are going to back up and we're focusing on those that can do the work very efficiently.
I have contacted technical support in the past. Actually, in fact, I am very close to the account and product team operators in Singapore. They're great. They've been very supportive. We've quite satisfied with the level of service provided.
The initial setup is quite straightforward. The solution itself is very user friendly, so we didn't find the implementation very complex.
Deployment took about half a day of work.
Currently, we're evaluating Cohesity. It is a new solution that we are starting to assess. We're looking at whether it's the right solution to replace our existing NetBackup.
Right now, our entire organization is a NetBackup supporter. However, we also understand that the cost of the backup is actually extremely high. We are actually looking at some sort of alternative at this point.
We're a NetBackup customer and we have a close partnership with Veritas. We don't provide any services to clients. We just happen to use it.
The product itself is great, however, the pricing is very high compared to the competition.
Veritas has been quite well known in the market for some time now. They have a lot of features as well. However, at the end of the day, it's always the cost that we have to consider.
I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.
I primarily use the solution to back up my customer's CMs or servers inside all of their data centers.
The VM portal and the CloudCatalyst are two of the solution's most valuable features.
The interaction of NetBackup with the cloud is not an easy process. You can't choose, for example, data optimization with the cloud. We would like to use CloudCatalyst with AWS and we can't. I don't know how to explain it, but the data file optimization is not usable everywhere. It's not a seamless solution in all instances. We'd like it to be multi-cloud and it's not there yet.
It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product.
The solution would benefit from the addition of disaster recovery.
I've been using the solution for five years now.
The stability is quite good. We haven't had issues with the product crashing. There aren't bugs or glitches that affect our work. It's reliable.
We're quite a sizable company. We've got maybe a 1000 operations and maybe 200 people working on projects. The solution is extensively used on a daily basis by our teams.
The solution is very scalable. We've scaled it ourselves within our organization and didn't have any issues. Other companies should feel confident that they can scale as well if they need to.
I personally have never contacted technical support, however, our operations teams have. I haven't heard anyone in our organization complain about their service which leads me to believe they've quite good. I would say overall our teams are satisfied with their level of service provided.
We previously used Dell EMC's Avamar solution. We decided to switch to Veritas after running into problems on Dell's platform and dealing with large overhead costs to have the solution.
The initial setup is not straightforward. it's quite complex. The process required a lot of engineering and had lots of components that needed to be addressed.
I don't recall the amount of time it took to deploy the solution.
The solution does require maintenance, however, I don't know too much about the process. We're a quite large company. I don't know how many people are working on this solution in total.
The implementation was handled by us. We are a service provider for our clients. We didn't need an outside consultant or integrator to assist us. We have our own in-house team of engineers that can handle everything.
Compared to other solutions, such as Dell EMC's Avamar, the solution is reasonably priced.
We've got a simple payment scheme set up where most of the features and the product itself are included in one single cost. It's quite straight forward in terms of pricing.
Since we are a service provider, we have a close relationship with Veritas. We offer services based on their technology and on their product.
I'd advise others considering implementing the solution to first evaluate against use cases. Depending on the use cases, the cost can change quite a lot. Overall, I'd recommend the solution, however. It's quite good and very reliable.
I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.
I mostly use it for disaster recovery and secondly for compliance reasons.
The reliability is valuable, especially for the appliance solution. Additionally, the resilience features help guard against threats such as ransomware.
The ease of use needs improvement. Specifically, the interface poses a challenge for newcomers, and the support used to be good, but it has declined in quality.
I have been using it since 2012, which makes it 12 or 13 years.
The upgrade process used to have issues, mainly a couple of years back. Because of that bad experience, I rate them a nine out of ten. They have made efforts to fix those issues, and during my last upgrade, we did not have any problems.
Their support quality has declined. I would rate it a six out of ten now, whereas it used to be a nine out of ten about two or three years ago.
Neutral
I would rate the initial setup a ten, but I have sufficient knowledge of the solution. Typically, I can have it up and running in a day. For the backups to reach a stable state, it usually takes two weeks since NetBackup runs at night, and I have to address any issues the next day.
I would recommend it to other users due to my thirteen years of experience. It delivers every time when properly configured. It performs well during crises.
The documentation available, especially on YouTube, is sparse compared to other vendors.
I give the solution an eight out of ten.
We have appliances from Veritas. We acquired both appliance storage and NetBackup software licenses together as part of our product purchases for daily, weekly, archival, and yearly backups.
The solution is easy to learn.
We review all of our policies. There are some policies with different names that are the same, but we cannot distinguish between them. There are use cases where jobs overlap. We view the IT analysis dashboard to facilitate the review of these types of jobs. From the information we obtained from our sales team, it offers a single view for managing all NetBackup jobs, including those on the cloud and in our IDC. Additionally, it includes security features, and handling antivirus issues. It offers a more cost-effective rate, which can help us reduce storage space. We have a single node for recovery practice.
The solution offers software licenses and more. When purchasing hardware, it also includes some software licenses bundled with the hardware.
The solution could have a more clear dashboard about the license and the operation status.
I have been using Veritas NetBackup for three years.
The product is stable.
I rate the solution’s stability a nine out of ten.
The solution’s scalability is good.
400 users are using this solution.
I rate the solution’s scalability an eight out of ten.
We have three administrators managing this solution.
Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
Our primary objective is to use it for performing backups in our extensive environment.
We rely heavily and use a wide range of its features and options. Currently, we run the latest version and have integrated Flex Appliances into our infrastructure, which has become a core component of our backup strategy. This integration ensures a seamless working relationship between the two, which is highly beneficial.
Its ability to comprehensively back up our entire environment is the most valuable. It provides us with the versatility to back up everything we require which eliminates the need for a secondary backup solution. What we value most is its universality. In a landscape where various software solutions often fall short, especially when it comes to backing up complex systems like SAP, having a single product that covers all our needs is a game-changer. This simplicity not only streamlines operations but also eliminates the need for multiple training and certifications for different tools.
Enhancing reporting across the board would be beneficial. We need an easier way to access information, such as the number of backups conducted in the last month, data quantities, and more, so that we can quickly provide this data to our superiors when needed. There is room for improvement in the updating process, especially when working on Linux and similar platforms. It's crucial to have a solution that's not only more efficient and faster but also secure. Updates should be risk-free, allowing for easy rollbacks in case something goes awry, ensuring that we can revert to the previous state without significant hassle or disruption.
I have been working with it for more than ten years.
Its productivity and reliability are at a satisfactory level.
The scalability depends on the specific environment you're working with. Generally, it is possible to scale the system, but this may require the installation of new components. In my company, we currently have over a thousand users who rely on it.
Its customer support team is functional, but it doesn't always meet our expectations. We believe that it should be improved to address these issues more effectively.
Neutral
While we've encountered occasional minor issues, overall, the deployment has been relatively straightforward.
The deployment timeline can vary from a couple of hours to a few days, depending on the specific environment and requirements, such as user accounts and configurations. It's essential to ensure we have a comprehensive backup solution in place before making any changes, to safeguard against any potential issues. We begin by assessing the situation and running necessary tests, which adds some complexity compared to a straightforward installation. Typically, this process involves the participation of three to four individuals.
I would advise to make thorough comparisons before making any decisions, as time evolves, and what's best today might not be the optimal solution in five years. This is especially important because changing systems can be costly for both small and large companies. You need a clear understanding of what you want to achieve and the advantages that a new product offers. Overall, I would rate it seven out of ten.
