a. Other than it has saved us from hours of work not having to rebuild servers and the many times it has helped us recover data that was valuable, I don't know how to translate that into money, but it's no small thing.
b. This one is HUGE: We moved our entire data center, from one physical location to another, mind you we are 24 hour operation with sites across the state relying on the systems being up, and we never lost one hour of downtime. We used Veeam Backup and Recovery to migrate our entire Vmware Farm from old location to the new. It was awesome.
Tape support is there, but needs improvement. Netvault beats in that area. But most of our backups are to disk then to tape; but also copy to disk DR (in development). Reporting is lacking unless you get additional product. Very basic reporting. This would an easy area to improve upon.
6 to 7 years.
We have had some hiccups with it once in a great while. Nothing major, and nothing that would stop me from recommending it.
No.
No.
Good to Excellent.
Technical Support:Good.
Yes. We used Netvault (still use it in limited way). Veeam is far more flexible.
Straightforward. We did not have to read volumes and volumes of tech docs. Interface was intuitive.
In-house team.
No sure I have numbers - how about millions?
It is priced per Socket. We have licensed 24 servers, 2 Sockets per server. Enterprise Edition.
Yes. Netvault, Vranger, commvault, and some others. I chose Veeam Backup after evaluating others because of it's reliability, ease of use and features.
Do a test. Have good hardware to run on and to backup to. Best to have SAN aware backups which require you give access to the storage cards to LUNS that you are backing up. Either iSCSI or Fiber. Network backups work, but much faster with SAN aware.
The backup and blocklevel incremental backup, where daily full backups are done. Also the hotcopy feature is valuable.
It's been an overall improvement many places at our client sites where almost everyone runs vm's or Hyper-V.
Nothing in particular, Veeam launches like a rocket and delves into the featurelist of VMware, for example, and tie their development close together with the devs coming from VMware or Microsoft.
Since early 2008 when Veeam entered the scene.
Never had any issues that couldn’t be dealt with from an admin pov.
Its running rock steady, so there isn’t any issues in my/our end.
It scales 100% its just a matter of licenses pr cpu, so as long as your compliant it runs like it should.
Rating in level from 1-10 where 10 is the best i would rate it 10.
Technical Support:Rating in level from 1-10 where 10 is the best i would rate it 10.
Yes used many different solutions, but no one were as great as Veeam when talking virtual backups.
Yes more or less, its been improved over the years and now version 8 is ready and even more potent.
We are an IT consultancy business doing implemetations ourself, so 100% done by us at N2IT.
ROI is compared to for example running CommVault returned many times, this is due to the flexibility ion license models etc. And also in terms of space utilization. Veeam does full daily backups with whats called synthetic backup streams of some sort, it takes all block changes and stream those into the latest backup and there create a full backup as well as restore pointers.
Setup cost is a variable, but take the number of cpu´s and multiply that with the license cost as well as a target for backup storage and you have the price.
Yes evaluated vRanger and PHP backup and also Symantec. No one met the requirements.
We decided on Veeam because we were much more integrated into VMware core and you didn't have to script yourself out of alot of tideous tasks to get things working.
Veeam worked out of the box and was a tight close match to what we knew Windows-wise.
Nothing beats Veeam when it comes to Backup in a virtual environment. Just go for it, Veeam won’t let you down.
Restores are easier to do.
It would be nice to be able to copy VMs directly to tape drives.
I've been using it for three years.
No issues encountered.

10/10.
Technical Support:10/10.
We previously used Backup Exec, but Veeam rules.
It was straightforward.
No other options were considered.
Veeam B&R is a reliable product and is the best disaster recovery I have ever seen. It's very simple to use and all the features are a must-have.
The product is really easy to use.
It has made the VM infrastructure easier to manage, as well as simplifying the backup and restore process.
The tape management is not really efficient and some other products are better. I know that backup on tape is not the the main target of Veeam but, it's important.
I've used it for two years.
Nothing serious.
Sometimes, the memory is not big enough, and I would guess that a leak might be present. Performing a monthly reboot solve this (at the same time as Windows updates).
No issues encountered.
It's good.
Technical Support:It's poor for certain issues (with the Veeam One product, the guys did not talk together and asked the same question several times). We had a loss of production time, and the answers they gave were not efficient.
It was simple and fast.
I implemented it myself.
I also looked at Avamar, Symanted and TSM which are better for tape management and data retention management, but expensive. Veeam however, is the easiest way to manage virtual infrastructure backup, and the cost is better, when compared with some other solutions.
Evaluate your needs before choosing a product. If tape management is required only, then Veeam is not the choice.
I use the backup, replication, and the backup copy features. The most useful one is the backup feature.
I have a backup of my infrastructure every night, and have improved the speed of performing restores.
I think it is a good product but all products could be better.
I've used it for two years.
No issues with deployment, nothing went wrong.
This product has saved a lot of my time, as it’s very stable.
I have only needed to open two tickets in two years.

Yes, I previously used Microsoft System Center but Veeam is better, faster and easy to use and configure.
It's easy and very straightforward to configure.
It was implemented in-house.
I would recommend you buy this product because it is simple to use and works fine.
It is important that a backup product delivers what it promises. As backup features are important, so are restore features. The ability of Veeam Backup & Replication suite to restore various items in a granular and fast way (RPO & RTO importance) is key for our customers.
Veeam B&R software is transparent and easy to use, which improves usability and manageability for the daily operations a backup/system administrator performs. Setting up a backup application/infrastructure is one thing, but to keep it operational without having to deal with big issues is another. I barely encounter situations where Veeam B&R setup disappoints our customers.
Two months ago, I would have said the integration of Veeam Endpoint Backup with Veeam B&R, but this is covered by now with Veeam 8 U2. The feature that a few customers are waiting is SharePoint item restores via redirected SQL, instead of having to install a staging SQL instance on the Veeam B&R backup server.
I've been installing and configuring it for three and a half years.
Every IT environment has it's specific needs and caveats. Of course I encountered some minor issues when deploying Veeam, but this is mostly related to the IT environment itself. Rare issues are logged with, and solved by Veeam support.
No issues encountered.
No, Veeam B&R provides a flexible way of working and scaling with the breakdown of different functionalities (proxies, repositories etc.).
In all the cases where I had to contact Veeam customer service, a solution was delivered within a short timeframe.
Technical Support:In all the cases where I had to contact Veeam Technical support, a solution was delivered within a short timeframe.
I have experience with Backup Exec. The backup/restore capabilities are far away from the Veeam Suite.
It's straightforward.
We are installing/configuring Veeam in customer environments.
As system integrator we offer various backup/replication products. I have no personal hands-on experience with other products except Backup Exec, and Veeam.
It's important to make a correct design which maps on your IT environment needs. A simple Veeam POC can be setup to validate the product.
Your one comment about the SQL staging server has now been resolved with the addition of the guest interaction proxy in Version 9
I can do a backup of an entire VM or just guest files.
The safety and reliability of data loss and retrieval has been amazing ever since we implemented Veeam.
It would be nice to be able to backup data to two locations.
I've used it for five years.
Nothing serious.
Nothing.
No issues encountered.

Not for virtual machines. I've used Symantec Backup Exec.
It was straightforward.
We implemented it in-house.
It's 100%.
It cost $1200 for the initial setup and then $70 per hour in the case of a restore.
We also looked at Carbonite.
Choose the proper solution. Install the 30 day trial version and if it's for you, then purchase it.
It drastically reduced the backup time window and improved data protection.
Better flexibility for scheduling jobs, specifically for the SQL hourly log backup.
I've used it for eight months.
Nothing major encountered.
No issues encountered.
No issues encountered.
It's better than others.
Technical Support:It's the best I've encountered.
We previously used virtual server infrastructure backup solution.
It was simple and straightforward.
We implemented it through a Veeam engineer, unfortunately the level of expertise was not the best.
We also looked at Nakivo.
It's the best solution for a VMware environment.

Very nice review! Veeam is defiantly a great very costly solution but the recover time is great. I think the best bang for your buck on the market today would be Paragon protect and Restore. Centrally managed hybrid solution for both your physical and virtual environment. We currently use their software and it's the most cost effective scalable solution on the market today. You get everything you need from one SKU, deduplication, replication, granular recovery of Microsoft exchange and more. Checkout this review of backup exec 16 VS Paragon
