As every application has a scope of improvement so the Veeam, there are many areas they can improve on: the CBT errors, in hot add many times it is found that the Veeam proxy do not release the HDD even after the backup, offsite repository is not very stable.

ROI for backup point of view comes only when you are in a condition that only backup can help, I have been in such conditions many times in which Veeam has proved to be a EXCELLENT ROI for my company.

Yes, Avamar.

Excellent product for medium size datacenter, not sure about the large datacenters.

- Veeam Backup has given us the power to protect the critical VM's that are core to our business. For example we protect our VMware vCenter Server, vCenter MS Sql Server.
- Active Directory Domain Controller. This help us recover the Internal management tools like vCenter Server within 30 minutes from Veeam Backup.

Haven't had any issues.

I have never seen any issues with the Veeam Backup product personally

This product is very easy to scale, I never had any issues with it.

VMware VDP it was missing file level restore on version 5.0 which Veeam offers.

This is per-CPU, initially we ordered 40 CPU.

Before choosing Veeam we have tested two products Unitrends backup, VMware VDP

We have two types of licenses with Veeam, one is for in-house and the other is for the service provider or your customers. Make sure you have a clear understanding of which license you need in your organization.

It's a very straight forward software that does not require technical intervention. Can fully integrate with VMware / Hyper-V without any issues. If your are not sure what is going to be the final decision, try It for free and see the results by yourself.

The ability to instantly recover a virtual machine as compared to several hours with previous methods.

I don't have the initial cost, but ongoing maintenance is very affordable.

I use both features Backup and the replication for my 2nd Datacentre - Is my DR Solution.
How has it helped my organization?
Easy to use product, If you have a virtual environment and also are worried about putting in a DR solution - This is an easy product to get to grips with, Plugs into Vcentre and has the same feel as Vcentre. the replication feature is great - Seamless on enterprise version that I use for my DR solutions.
What needs improvement?
Standard version is poor - As you need to power Off/On virtual machines when backing up/Restoring where Enterprise edition you don't - If you have a big estate to manage stay away from Standard.
For how long have I used the solution?
Over 7 years now - Since ver 6.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No - You can have this up and ready in less than half a day.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam is dependant on Microsoft SQL and VMware or Microsoft Hypervisor so no.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Limitations in VMware is 10000 and Citrix is 6600 VDI's, Veeam is charged at physical CPU so very scalable.

I've not really had to deal with Customer service.
Technical Support:Again not really had to deal with technical support.

Veeam Backup and Replication is in its own world - Nothing out there that is even close to this product that I could recommend.
How was the initial setup?
Very simple to install. If you follow VMware Best practice and install a Vcentre on 1 physical and one Virtual, Same again with Microsoft SQL. Remember if you have a virtual farm failure your need to have it installed in a physical to bring back your virtual platforms - I have seen many of big company's also make this school boy error.
What about the implementation team?
I have implemented many times with an in house team.

I have this installed on a 150k user base - My total spend is 3 Mil Us Dollars.

It's the only solution for an enterprise Virtual environment.

Veeam is cheaper than our older solution and more reliable. We spend less time to check and/or relaunch daily backup in error.
What other advice do I have?
If you’re > 80% virtualized environment (Hyper-V or VMware) and no need of complex tape rotation, this is a good product.
Be careful of having installed integration services or VMware tools.
