We're confident in the solution because the support is always there for us
Pros and Cons
  • "Exchange's interface is good. All of our engineers like it and are accustomed to using it."
  • "The main problem with Microsoft products is that we're constantly required to install patches and fixes."

What is most valuable?

Exchange's interface is good. All of our engineers like it and are accustomed to using it.

What needs improvement?

The main problem with Microsoft products is that we're constantly required to install patches and fixes. In fact, Microsoft frequently publishes, which is in itself a guarantee of quality, security updates especially for the OS that we are forced to apply. The problem is, this causes us to do a lot of testing before we go into production to make sure that our systems continue to function properly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've worked as an administrator of Microsoft Exchange for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't identified any serious problems with Exchange.

How are customer service and support?

We have always used Exchange. That's a strategic choice for our company. We are confident in Microsoft because their support is always there for us.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was easy. When we first deployed Exchange, we had some guidance from Microsoft, but now our engineers use it effortlessly.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Microsoft Exchange eight out of 10. I hope Microsoft will continue to support the on-premises versions of their products because they are increasingly orienting themselves toward Exchange in the cloud. Unfortunately, cloud services are unavailable here in Nigeria.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

More mature than competing solutions but it has trouble integrating with other operating systems
Pros and Cons
  • "I find Exchange's basic mail features to be highly valuable."
  • "The calendar integration in Exchange is not that great. The email features are okay, but it doesn't integrate well with the calendar and appointments, especially Zoom appointments. It integrates fine with Microsoft Teams, but Zoom is a challenge."

What is most valuable?

I find Exchange's basic mail features to be highly valuable.

What needs improvement?

The calendar integration in Exchange is not that great. The email features are okay, but it doesn't integrate well with the calendar and appointments, especially Zoom appointments. It integrates fine with Microsoft Teams, but Zoom is a challenge.

Maybe the problems with integration are Apple's fault. The calendar doesn't integrate well with Apple's iOS. When I make appointments in Outlook, they don't necessarily transfer to the Apple Watch or the iPhone. If a meeting is canceled or rescheduled, it doesn't pick up at all. It's still showing appointments that were canceled months ago.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Microsoft Exchange for seven or eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft Exchange's stability is okay. I'm about the jinx it, but it seems fine. I'm not really having problems with it, and I've got over 200,000 emails.

How are customer service and support?

I've contacted Microsoft support. They're overseas in India, I think. They usually solve the problem but not quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. I even let them access the computer remotely, and they do whatever. I would rate them average. They're okay but not great. It takes more time than necessary, it seems.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I still use Gmail, but I don't use it much. I'm not that impressed. Gmail isn't robust enough. I use the integrated mailbox for iPhone. It's okay but not great. Outlook is the best, but it could be better.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I pay about $100 for a license, but I'm a single owner.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate Exchange seven out of 10. It has challenges with integration, whether it be through Android or Apple. We've been heavily using Zoom and Microsoft Teams this year, and that hasn't been great. It's passable. At the same time, I would give iOS Mail only a five or six, but then again, it's straightforward. It doesn't propose to do much else. The nice thing about iOS Mail is that you don't have to sift through different accounts. They all come up in the sandbox, which is cool. That's helpful for work.

If you're using Microsoft Exchange, make sure you have technical support. You need someone to call if you have problems. I pay for a technical support license from Microsoft.

A user-friendly email and calendaring server with lots of features
Pros and Cons
  • "It's an excellent product from Microsoft. It provides more flexibility to the end-users. As it's connected with Teams, it also enables collaboration."
  • "From a security perspective, Microsft Exchange can be improved. All that needs to be added is security, but that's an internal hierarchical problem from the product itself and not the end-users."

What is our primary use case?

We use Exchange for email services and collaboration services.

What is most valuable?

It's an excellent product from Microsoft. It provides more flexibility to the end-users. As it's connected with Teams, it also enables collaboration. You can share documents through emails and more. There are lots of features, and it's very user-friendly.

What needs improvement?

From a security perspective, Microsft Exchange can be improved. All that needs to be added is security, but that's an internal hierarchical problem from the product itself and not the end-users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Exchange for about ten years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are some limitations when it comes to scalability, but Microsoft always continues to improve it. Now I'm serving more than 2,000 users, and I think my company serves about 10,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward for the small use cases. Each case is different, but for the most part, it's almost straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Microsoft doesn't have a unit price, it's based on the quantity, and they offer great discounts.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise potential users to go with Exchange. Exchange Online is also very similar to Office 365.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Microsoft Exchange a nine.

The Exchange Toolbox comes with many useful tools for exchange administrators including Message Tracking, Tracking Log Explorer, and many more.

Valuable Features:

The mobile version of exchange keeps getting better as the product develops and synchronizes with today's latest mobile hardware. Security wise this gives local administrators control over these devices if stolen or lost.

The Exchange Toolbox comes with many useful tools for exchange administrators including Message Tracking, Tracking Log Explorer, and many more. Exchange really shines by allowing third party apps to manage and integrate with many software's geared towards the Outlook environment.

Exchange is an ever growing environment that will always have stronghold in the world of communicating and organizing information that is reliable.

Improvements to My Organization:

I would have to say the biggest improvement is communication. Communication is a big factor in any business. Email allows us to have history on communication and real time communications. Shared calendars are a great way to reserve rooms and share your meetings with team members. Distribution groups are becoming more popular for group communication. Outlook/Exchange creates a very open environment for communications and archiving information when needed. Exchange is a ever growing application that will only get better over time and will evolve and adapt to our everyday communications needs now and in the future.

Room for Improvement:

The issue with Exchange has always been storage. Users by nature do not like to delete anything and it shows. So we have to create local polices to counter this issue and possibly 3rd party software to properly manage archiving for the users. We also are looking into upgrading the Exchange environment in 2016/2017. This would be an improvement overall as Microsoft latest release was in 2013 and we are still on version 2010. This would also give our environment improvement as we are building a new Exchange environment from scratch with a Microsoft partner.

Deployment Issues:

We've had no issues deploying it.

Stability Issues:

We've had no issues with stability.

Scalability Issues:

We've had no issues with scalability.

Good integration with other services, fair price, and makes work much easier
Pros and Cons
  • "It gives me benefit in terms of integration with other services such as SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive. It makes my work much easier."
  • "There are limitations in terms of the number of emails that can be sent in a minute, which makes it a little difficult for the marketing folks."

What is our primary use case?

I use it as a customer, and I also do implementations for my customers. I mostly go with hybrid deployments.

What is most valuable?

It gives me benefit in terms of integration with other services such as SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive. It makes my work much easier.

What needs improvement?

There are limitations in terms of the number of emails that can be sent in a minute, which makes it a little difficult for the marketing folks.

The products or the updates that come in are more frequent. If I want to move from Exchange on-prem to Exchange Online, there are prerequisites that need to be met. They always have prerequisites for the latest one, but not all customers will have the latest infra. They might have a six or three months old version, but the expectation is the latest one. This prerequisite is a little inconvenient for those customers who wish to migrate to the cloud.

The response time of their support can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for seven to eight years.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not contacted them recently. I used to contact them four or five years ago. I would rate them a four out of five. One point is for the delay in their response.

How was the initial setup?

It depends on the organization. If it is an SME, it is going to be straightforward. If it is an enterprise, it is going to be complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is fair.

What other advice do I have?

I will recommend others to go with the complete suite instead of going for just Exchange. If they go with Office 365, which is a bundled service, they will get more flexibility and collaborative workspace. It will enable their users to work without moving around the apps.

I would rate Microsoft Exchange an eight out of 10. Obviously, not everything is 100% satisfactory, but there are a lot of improvements happening.

The access by any user with mobile or laptop is a huge selling point.
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to use and we can allow many users because now our users are scattered They over a wide area. We can use it from anywhere. That is the main benefit for us."
  • "In terms of probability, every now and then there are changes coming and going. The changes are not that frequent because every month they got updates back, so that is an issue."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is sending and responding to email.

How has it helped my organization?

Our primary use is protection of email. Email is the primary mode of communication. With Exchange, the user can access it anywhere on mobile or laptop. It becomes easy for them to communicate with their vendors and consumers. So that is why we chose Exchange.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to use and we can allow many users because now our users are scattered  They over a wide area. We can use it from anywhere. That is the main benefit for us.

What needs improvement?

In terms of probability, every now and then there are changes coming and going. The changes are not that frequent because every month they got updates back, so that is an issue.

For how long have I used the solution?

Three to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We always have a higher variability configuration ready and we've got two mailbox servers, so even if one goes down, we can use it, we can still access our mail. As far as variability in internet we've never had any major issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not had scalability concerns. We had already planned for scalability and everything, and when we started we were only ten user accounts but we got thousand users so we planned for a thousand users so we never had any issue. We still have room for expansion so it's not an issue for us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Google gmail. But,we have a lot of expertise with Exchange. And the thing with Google, or any dormant solution, is that we are a semi-dormant algorithm and we can't have our data out on the cloud.

How was the initial setup?

It was a straightforward implementation. We just had five or six servers off Exchange and never had any issues. It was a very straightforward thing for us, we just made sure that we found it well and we went by the phases and a small issues moving from the old version of Exchange to the new version of Exchange, but it was small DNA. No major issues along the way.

What other advice do I have?

VNA redundancy has grown in the data, VNA data variability has grown, even in case VNA found the server goes down, and users can still access their email. So basically everything is good. The feature VNA almost as good as having your own Outlook, although it's better VNA.

Reliable, old-fashioned communication for non-cloud users
Pros and Cons
  • "Microsoft Exchange's most valuable feature is that it's old-fashioned communication, meaning it's good for people who aren't able to work comfortably in a cloud environment."
  • "Sometimes we don't get support quickly enough - for example, if there's some global hacker attack, we don't get served as quickly. The skills of the technical staff can also vary, and Microsoft could perhaps improve their training."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Microsoft Exchange as a messaging platform.

What is most valuable?

Microsoft Exchange's most valuable feature is that it's old-fashioned communication, meaning it's good for people who aren't able to work comfortably in a cloud environment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Microsoft Exchange since 1996.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft Exchange is very stable - I'm very satisfied with its availability and reliability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Exchange's scalability is very good, with load balancing and failover switching features.

How are customer service and support?

We use Microsoft Premier Support and are very satisfied with it. However, sometimes we don't get support quickly enough - for example, if there's some global hacker attack, we don't get served as quickly. The skills of the technical staff can also vary, and Microsoft could perhaps improve their training.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is really straightforward so long as you meet all the prerequisites. However, in some scenarios, you only have selected privileges and limited control over parts of the installation, which means you may have to ask Microsoft for help if something goes wrong.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Microsoft's licensing structure is too complex, but its prices are affordable, though not cheap.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Microsoft Exchange as ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Easy to set up but doesn't work very well on a virtual machine
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to set up."
  • "It doesn't work very well on a virtual machine. We had to move it around. There are also issues when you try to move it between computers."

What is our primary use case?

We use it just for email.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to set up.

What needs improvement?

It doesn't work very well on a virtual machine. We had to move it around. There are also issues when you try to move it between computers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Exchange for around ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Its stability is not so great. We can't move mailboxes because of a corrupt file or random issues, which causes headaches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We didn't have any need to scale it. We have got the same number of people in our company. We have 20 users at the moment. They are accountants and engineers at the job sites.

How are customer service and technical support?

We don't really use them. We use a local IT company for any major issue.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've had the same solution for a long time.

How was the initial setup?

The setup program is straightforward, but there are hiccups when you try to move it between computers. You come across different issues.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is okay.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Microsoft Exchange a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
