I'm using it to have a global map overview of all my machines. We also use it in simple scenarios to check that our applications are up. We haven't really created that many dashboards at this time, but our next mission is to create good dashboards to efficiently track the VM performance.
IT Operations Manager at Viamedis
Provides a global map of all machines, and shows all the problems related to our VMs
Pros and Cons
- "There is a problems page that shows us every warning or problem that occurs on our VMs globally. The map screen is also really useful because this is something that was missing. I don't know every other tool in the market. So, I don't know if this is a good point of only Zabbix, or other tools are also doing it, but from my point of view, this is the most useful page that I use, along with the problems page that efficiently lists the problem, recovery time, ending hours, starting hours, and so on."
- "In terms of user-friendliness, large maps could be more interactive. We should be able to click on some areas and move some objects. It would make it simpler to see things while analyzing some dedicated parameters."

Effective monitoring, scalable, and useful online resources
Pros and Cons
- "We are able to monitor our virtual infrastructure, virtual machines, windows servers, databases, and the network using a simple network management protocol. We are able to pull almost all the metrics that we want, receive notifications, and have them integrate with telegrams for certain devices that are critical, such as UPSs."
- "Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier."
What is our primary use case?
We are using Zabbix in my workplace to monitor the infrastructure.
What is most valuable?
We are able to monitor our virtual infrastructure, virtual machines, windows servers, databases, and the network using a simple network management protocol. We are able to pull almost all the metrics that we want, receive notifications, and have them integrate with telegrams for certain devices that are critical, such as UPSs.
What needs improvement?
Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Zabbix for approximately four years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Zabbix is scalable because depending on the size of your infrastructure you can have distributed proxies servers across your network that will feed to the main server for the metric. It is similar to branches, where you can have one product for each branch and then the central server speaking in your central location, it works perfectly.
Our entire IT department is using Zabbix, which is 15 people, but we have approximately 600 devices being monitored.
How are customer service and support?
I have never had an issue that I needed to contact support. However, everything I have needed was able to be found online from the community or the Zabbix site manuals. Zabbix does offer support based on a subscription.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was using Centurion previously but I decided to switch to Zaddix because of costs. I was using the community edition of Centurion and it was very limited but with Zabbix, you can have an enterprise-class monitoring solution for free. I did research quickly and then I phoned Zaddix to see if they could solve all my problems without having to pay anything. This is when they confirmed I could and then I switched.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy. It took approximately three hours to get the server up and running.
What was our ROI?
By using Zabbix you minimize the cost of operation because you recieve an enterprise-class monitoring solution for free.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is free to use but they offer support as a paid service. If you can go read the manuals and do the fine-tuning based on your needs, you do not need to pay anything and you will have a full solution.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have evaluated PRTG and SolarWinds.
What other advice do I have?
You do not need to spend a lot of money on solutions that have similar functionality, such as PRTG or Solar Winds. With Zabbix, you receive a free enterprise-class monitoring solution for free, as long as you know how to use it.
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate Zabbix a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

VMware & Cloud Solutions Architect at Géant
Effectively helps manage application performance and has a good alerting and notification system
Pros and Cons
- "The template system in Zabbix is very beneficial as it saves time in configuration."
- "To improve Zabbix, adding more features to support the monitoring of modern workloads like containers would be beneficial."
What is our primary use case?
I use Zabbix to monitor my server and network infrastructure. It was set up to monitor cloud interfaces and ensure high-speed performance. The dashboards allow the support team to see interface status and are configured with porting.
What is most valuable?
The template system in Zabbix is very beneficial as it saves time in configuration. Initially, setting it up might seem challenging, but using pre-made templates makes integration with switches easier. By leveraging templates, configuration becomes more straightforward and efficient.
What needs improvement?
To improve Zabbix, adding more features to support the monitoring of modern workloads like containers would be beneficial. Many environments are shifting away from traditional setups to remote and customized infrastructures. Enhancing Zabbix to accommodate these changes would make it more appealing and user-friendly. This would help organizations like mine in selecting the most suitable monitoring solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Zabbix for about four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Zabbix is a highly stable solution. Despite occasional minor issues, it consistently delivers on its core features.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Zabbix offers good scalability and flexibility, although there have been some issues with database scalability over time. Configurability is straightforward but sometimes requires separating the database from the Zabbix virtual machine for easier management. Improvements in database scalability would enhance the overall scalability of Zabbix.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the technical support as an eight out of ten. It is quite good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Zabbix is good for monitoring networks, while Prometheus is better for modern workloads like containers. Choosing depends on what you need to monitor. For diverse infrastructures, it is tough to pick one. Cost and engineer feedback help decide.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Zabbix was complex because of the need to customize it for our environment. It was challenging to integrate with our devices until we found templates to help with configuration. It took around two to three months to deploy the solution completely due to configuring many dashboards and integrating switches. Initially, it required two engineers to deploy and maintain, alongside support staff for ongoing operations.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Zabbix's licensing and pricing are good for our needs.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
What other advice do I have?
Zabbix helps manage application performance by providing easy-to-manage job reports and configuring alerts for network issues. It reduces turnaround time for issue resolution by 70%-80%. Managers and support teams receive updates on interface status, leading to quicker escalation and resolution. Zabbix also generates reports and dashboards showing link availability and downtime records, facilitating customer reporting and making processes more efficient.
The alerting and notification system in Zabbix is highly effective. It ensures that we are notified only when necessary, reducing unnecessary monitoring. Email alerts enable us to quickly respond to issues, even when away from the dashboard. This subscription system has significantly improved our response time to link failures.
Before using Zabbix, ensure that your database setup is appropriate for your environment, especially for larger setups. Consider hosting your database separately for security and performance reasons. Utilize templates provided by Zabbix to simplify the setup process, as they can streamline infrastructure configuration.
Overall, I would rate Zabbix as a nine out of ten. It is a great tool.

Excellent open-source performance monitoring tool that uses few resources
Pros and Cons
- "Zabbix is an excellent performance monitoring tool."
- "The integration of the product is not so easy, especially when it comes to the application database."
What is our primary use case?
Zabbix is used for monitoring infrastructure, including networks and servers. It is used for monitoring the performance of each device. It can also be used for application monitoring, but the integration is not easy.
What is most valuable?
Zabbix is an excellent performance monitoring tool. It's an open-source tool, and it's free to use. You don't need to pay anything, and it uses little resources. You can use Zabbix if you have a small infrastructure and not a critical one.
What needs improvement?
The integration of the product is not so easy, especially when it comes to the application database. Finding customized agents for each product needs some deep understanding. They also don't have a license for the product, but you can purchase a support contract they provide.
Unlike NETSCOUT, Zabbix lacks the capability to work purely on packets, drill down on root causes and monitor any infrastructure regardless of the vendor.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Zabbix for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is stable, and it is a very good product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Approximately 10 to 15 people are using the solution in our company.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Zabbix is an open-source tool, and it's free to use.
What other advice do I have?
Zabbix is a really good tool because it is an open-source tool.
In the future, we might consider using products like NETSCOUT, capable of root cause analysis, which works at the pocket level and can give us some insights into our overall infrastructure.
Overall, I rate Zabbix an eight out of ten.

We can fix issues with our network before they become serious problems
Pros and Cons
- "I'm supervising all the IT departments, and Zabbix seems quite good for them. It provides graphics and information in real time. We get alerts about crashes on the system, enabling us to quickly repair issues. We can easily find devices with problems."
- "Zabbix is powerful, but it is difficult to understand initially. There are many things that can be improved, but we might not be using Zabbix to its fullest extent. The software has more features than we need."
What is our primary use case?
We use Zabbix to monitor the configuration and usage of devices on the network, including switches and printers.
How has it helped my organization?
Zabbix alerts us about problems on the system, including damage to the hardware or network connectivity issues.
What is most valuable?
I'm supervising all the IT departments, and Zabbix seems quite good for them. It provides graphics and information in real time. We get alerts about crashes on the system, enabling us to quickly repair issues. We can easily find devices with problems.
What needs improvement?
Zabbix is powerful, but it is difficult to understand initially. There are many things that can be improved, but we might not be using Zabbix to its fullest extent. The software has more features than we need.
For example, Zabbix can be used for a company monitoring solutions by many vendors. We have only one site and one company, so we can't improve all the possibilities of the software.
Zabbix could add some more cybersecurity features. It isn't the same thing because network monitoring isn't the same as security. Still, it could include something like a VPN or firewall with the solution. It's a free software tool traditionally used for monitoring.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Zabbix for around one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Zabbix is highly stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate six out of 10 for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
We don't use technical support. We rely on the documentation.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Centreon, another open-source solution, about four years ago. I wasn't used to this kind of software, but now I can understand them a little bit better.
How was the initial setup?
I rate Zabbix five out of 10 for ease of setup. It takes about two weeks to deploy. We have many people working from home, which creates some difficulties. Sometimes, people left materials at home when they work at the office, and we didn't have the time to install all the components. That's why it took time.
What was our ROI?
We saved time one equipment intervention, preventing service outages. We had the information about network blackouts before they happened, so we could save our company by changing equipment before we experienced downtime.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Zabbix is an open-source solution, and there aren't any additional costs.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Zabbix eight out of 10. It's a good solution for everyone's needs. Maybe same users that we have, few users for the moment because we don't have a very big important network. I think that Centreon is better, but maybe easier than the subjects to use. This is maybe the best solution for small entities.

Ready to go out of the box, easy to integrate with Microsoft Office, and very robust
Pros and Cons
- "They've already added extra features, such as noise-canceling and facial recognition, which is great."
- "One of the things we don't like is that Zabbix has a license structure with a price that is high compared to the competition. It's very high, for example, compared to something like Microsoft Teams."
What is our primary use case?
We use it to collaborate with each other internally as a company for video conferencing, meetings, teams, and those kinds of things. We implement it in customer environments as well for the same reasons, and also for eHealth solutions, for instance, in hospitals.
How has it helped my organization?
It improves the way we work, the way our customers work. With eHealth, for instance, surgeons can make appointments with patients at a distance and they can still see each other. That's very, very good.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable aspect is it's very robust. It has a lot of features and it also integrates with a lot of the Cisco hardware around it, such as Smartboards, video conferencing units, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It's a really robust and complete solution.
The initial setup is easy.
It's a stable solution.
We find the product scalable.
The use is very straightforward. It's actually pretty much ready to go out of the box. It's very easy to start using it, to be honest.
You can also integrate it without Microsoft Office 365 and put it in the agenda of Outlook for instance, for meetings.
They've already added extra features, such as noise-canceling and facial recognition, which is great.
What needs improvement?
One of the things we don't like is that Zabbix has a license structure with a price that is high compared to the competition. It's very high, for example, compared to something like Microsoft Teams.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used the product since Cisco acquired it. It's been maybe ten years or so at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is great. There aren't bugs. It's not glitchy and it doesn't freeze. it's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability on offer is good. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.
All of our people in the company in Europe use Zabbix for sure. That's at least 1,000. We also use it for events to stream video content, to customers, for instance, on a fairly large scale.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is very good. We have straight contact with the Cisco technical assistance center. If there is anything that has to be changed or improved, then we can directly call them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Microsoft Teams. The number of possibilities in Zabbix was better than in Teams, and it also integrates very well with the hardware solutions from Cisco which was why we switched.
How was the initial setup?
In general, the initial setup is very straightforward. It's not a difficult implementation process.
There isn't much staff needed for deployment or maintenance tasks.
If more functionality is added to it, that might be a reason to use it more and more. However, as it is, at this point, we are already intensive users.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We buy the solution yearly. I'm not very aware of what the actual pricing and the licensing are, however, I know that for extra features, there is a possibility to buy a little bit more.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Zoom, however, we never ended up using it.
What other advice do I have?
Currently, we use it and we implement it as a partner.
We're always on the latest version. It's automatically updated via the cloud.
I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Senior Contractor at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
Good documentation, easy to set up, and the trigger dependency feature is helpful
Pros and Cons
- "Zabbix has a roadmap and they are continuously and frequently adding new features."
- "The reports are not great and should be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We are a solution provider and Zabbix is one of the products that we implement for our clients. I am the senior consultant for Zabbix in my organization.
The use cases are pretty basic. They include memory and disk monitoring, database monitoring, log file monitoring, and application monitoring.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the trigger dependencies.
The documentation is good.
Zabbix has a roadmap and they are continuously and frequently adding new features. Most of the features are good.
What needs improvement?
The reports are not great and should be improved. In other tools, we can schedule reports and fetch them. However, with Zabbix, we cannot export reports. It is possible to export some of the data but our monthly reports, including those for performance and availability, cannot be exported.
This product is not highly available by default. I have read that in the next major version, 6.0, they are planning to do that for the proxies.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Zabbix for between three and four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a very stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable and I have no issues with it in that regard. We have five to six people that use it. They primarily do admin work.
There are two or three who architect and design solutions. We add and manage servers, as well as perform maintenance.
How are customer service and support?
We do not have a Zabbix technical support subscription. We manage it ourselves.
The blogs that are available online are okay.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
There are a few problems but if they fix them, then Zabbix is a very good tool compared to others. This includes tools that you have to pay for.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup for the Zabbix server is pretty straightforward.
Initially, it was just a single node, so the deployment didn't take long.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is an open-source solution that can be used free of charge. Support is something that you have to pay extra for.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for anybody who is implementing Zabbix is to read the documentation and go through the use cases before beginning the implementation. Many use cases are available online.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
