Powerful dashboard, reliable, and helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is the TAP Dashboard. It provides more detailed information that can be used for forensic analysis. This is an advantage that other email security providers, such as Cisco, IronPort, or Microsoft do not offer in their dashboards."
  • "Proofpoint Email Protection has a new approach to email security with its API feature. Currently, it only works with Office 365. In the future, it would be beneficial if it also works with Gmail, as Check Point is currently the only brand that has API email security for Gmail. It would be beneficial if Proofpoint Email Protection could add this integration, they would be more competitive with other vendors."

What is our primary use case?

Many customers in Thailand have issues with phishing. Most email security systems can detect spam and viruses, but not many can detect phishing as well as Proofpoint Email Protection does. Therefore, the main use case is to prevent phishing.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is the TAP Dashboard. It provides more detailed information that can be used for forensic analysis. This is an advantage that other email security providers, such as Cisco, IronPort, or Microsoft do not offer in their dashboards.

What needs improvement?

Proofpoint Email Protection has a new approach to email security with its API feature. Currently, it only works with Office 365. In the future, it would be beneficial if it also works with Gmail, as Check Point is currently the only brand that has API email security for Gmail. It would be beneficial if Proofpoint Email Protection could add this integration, they would be more competitive with other vendors.

One customer mentioned that the user interface for custom configuration could be improved. They stated that while the dashboard looks visually pleasing, they would like the configuration page to have a similar aesthetic appeal.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Proofpoint Email Protection for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability of Proofpoint Email Protection a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Proofpoint Email Protection a seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The overall customer feedback on Proofpoint Email Protection's support has been positive.

How was the initial setup?

The installation process of Proofpoint Email Protection is not particularly difficult and is similar to other major email security vendors unless they are cloud-based solutions. Proofpoint Email Protection could improve is the configuration page of the Proofpoint Protection Server, as it is not as user-friendly as the Proofpoint Essentials.

The length of time it takes to deploy Proofpoint Email Protection depends on the specific requirement. If filters are the only thing needed to set up for inbound and outbound email, it would take approximately a week. The amount of time it takes to customize the categories depends on the customer's specific needs.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We sell annual licenses for this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Proofpoint Email Protection an eight out of ten.

Very strong detection for phishing or malicious emails but post-sales training is lacking
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has very strong detection for most of the phishing and malicious emails received from the outside."
  • "The solution should add post-sales training."

What is our primary use case?

Our company uses the solution for a customer's email security.

Three years ago, the solution opened offices in Saudia Arabia. Previously, you could only deal with distributors.

We were introduced to the solution and conducted proof of value and concept for one customer. We implemented one year ago and the customer is happy with the solution.

Our customer has 5,000 users across a big company with many branches.

What is most valuable?

The solution is dedicated to email security and that is its core business. It is a leader in comparison to other vendors.

The solution has very strong detection for most phishing and malicious emails received from the outside. It is stronger in this area than competitors.

The TRAP is great for analytics and correlations related to the mailbox.

What needs improvement?

The solution should add post-sales training. There is no issue with the product itself but education could be improved because no information related to implementations is available. We can find sales and pre-sales training but are in need of post-sales training similarly to what is offered by other vendors.

If we know how the product works, we can implement it. Sometimes, customers ask the solution to handle implementations and that is costly. We would like the training to fully handle implementations and save our customers money.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. We had a problems during implementation but none after that was completed. We haven't received complaints or emails related to issues with the solution.

Stability is rated a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very nice and flexible, particularly for virtual machines.

Our customer did not have the particular requirement to scale.

Scalability is rated a nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Our customer has direct contact with the solution's technical support. They can escalate a case directly so sometimes do this instead of contacting our company.

Our customer has only opened one case with technical support. There were no problems with the process and the support team was both helpful and flexible.

The Saudi and UAE teams are especially flexible and help with small favors. Other vendors do not provide this level of support.

Technical support is rated a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our customer had an obsolete email security gateway from Trend Micro. This product had good endpoint protection in general, but was not strong when it came to email security so the customer did not renew the contract.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward and easy so I rate setup a nine out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

Three of our technicians implemented the solution for our customer. Implementations depend on use case and customer preparedness.

If all prerequisites are prepared by the customer in advance, then implementation is straightforward and takes one or two weeks.

Our implementation took about four months because our customer did not prepare the prerequisites. This caused a delay in the project. Otherwise, this implementation would have been completed in a week to ten days.

We handle ongoing maintenance and our customer also has a direct pipeline to the solution's technical support.

What was our ROI?

Our company has not yet realized an ROI because we recently became partners so have only closed one project. We are doing our best now to propose the solution to other customers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In general, the pricing is competitive. It is not expensive or inexpensive. Pricing is a bit above average but the solution is a leader in the area.

I rate pricing a six out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We conducted a proof of concept and proposed Forcepoint and the solution as possible options. To be honest, the solution is many times better than Forcepoint for email security.

Forcepoint has many issues that are also used for email security in another mode. We were not getting much success with email security so we proposed Proofpoint as a better option.

The two types of email protection include the gateway and the mailbox from the inside. The solution offers three tools for full protection.

The PPS provides email protection as a gateway. The IMD protects internal emails in general. The TRAP is great for analytics and correlations related to anything happening in the mailbox.

We replaced Trend Micro and implemented all three of the solution's protection components.

What other advice do I have?

If you want the solution to be implemented properly, then it is important for customers to have prerequisites ready. Technically, the solution can be implemented but customers need to understand their wants, needs, and requirements to ensure a successful implementation. Implementations are easy and flexible when requirements are known in advance.

I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

It provides excellent technical support and has a threat response auto-pull feature
Pros and Cons
  • "Proofpoint Email Protection is a good product, and its most beneficial feature is the Threat Response Auto-Pull. I also like that it's an integrated email security solution."
  • "The accessibility of Proofpoint Email Protection, particularly access to product trials, could be improved. It's hard to get a trial for Proofpoint Email Protection, and many customers prefer not just to do the POC or demo but try the product out."

What is our primary use case?

Most customers interested in Proofpoint Email Protection have problems with spam, or their email security solution cannot detect phishing or spam, so they want to replace it with Proofpoint Email Protection.

What is most valuable?

Proofpoint Email Protection is a good product, and its most beneficial feature is the Threat Response Auto-Pull. I also like that it's an integrated email security solution.

What needs improvement?

The accessibility of Proofpoint Email Protection, particularly access to product trials, could be improved. It's hard to get a trial for Proofpoint Email Protection, and many customers prefer not just to do the POC or demo but try the product out, including Proofpoint Email Protection add-ons.

In the product's next release, I want more email servers added, such as Lotus Domino, rather than Proofpoint Email Protection focusing on just Microsoft Office 365 Exchange and Gmail.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Proofpoint Email Protection for about eight months or a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Proofpoint Email Protection is pretty stable, so it's a nine out of ten for me.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Proofpoint Email Protection is scalable, an eight out of ten, scalability-wise. It has a large capacity, so in most cases, seventy to eighty percent of customers won't have issues with user capacity and email traffic, whether that traffic is coming in or out.

How are customer service and support?

I often contact Proofpoint Email Protection technical support, and it's excellent, so it's a ten out of ten for me.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Proofpoint Email Protection is the first email security solution I've worked with because this is the first company I joined after I graduated.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Proofpoint Email Protection wasn't that easy, but it wasn't too complex either. I'd rate it an eight out of ten.

It took one month to less than two months to deploy Proofpoint Email Protection.

My team configures the platform to receive the incoming email from the domain and then send it to the customer's email server. For other configurations, it would depend on what the customer wants. Another team is in charge of Proofpoint Email Protection deployment while I do the presale work and capture feature requirements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing model for Proofpoint Email Protection is simple. It's based on the number of users and, in some cases, the amount of email traffic for the on-premise deployment, but the licensing isn't complicated.

The number of users depends on the customer. For example, it could range from one hundred to twenty thousand in the banking industry. The total price for Proofpoint Email Protection depends on the number of licenses you have.

You don't have to pay additional fees apart from the standard licensing fees.

Price-wise, Proofpoint Email Protection is a five out of ten because it's a pretty expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

My company is not using Proofpoint Email Protection, but it's a distributor based in Thailand.

I am trying to remember the exact version of the solution, but it should be the latest one.

Proofpoint Email Protection is mainly deployed on the cloud because many of my customers prefer a cloud solution unless the customer works in a bank or financial institution. Still, I have some customers that deployed it on-premises.

Two to three people take care of product deployment. My company didn't receive customer Proofpoint Email Protection maintenance requests this year because it just started working with Proofpoint, but maybe next year, it will.

Proofpoint Email Protection is best for medium to large businesses because it's pretty pricey so smaller companies would go for another product, or maybe Proofpoint Essentials. Still, since Proofpoint Essentials cannot customize policies or have the same usability as the enterprise product, smaller companies usually aren't interested in it.

My advice to anyone planning to implement Proofpoint Email Protection is that if you want a complete platform for email security, this product is the answer. There's no better email security solution than Proofpoint Email Protection if you can afford its price.

I'm rating the product as nine out of ten. I took away one point because of its price.

One-stop shop for email security with responsive support
    Pros and Cons
    • "A one-stop shop for email protection"
    • "Some use cases haven't been dealt with yet."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case for this solution is for email security.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is that it's a one-stop shop for email protection.

    What needs improvement?

We have some use cases that haven't been dealt with yet, so that could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for eight years.

How are customer service and support?

Proofpoint's support is very responsive, especially in comparison to Microsoft. Commonly a specialist is available within 24 hours, and the support is more professional overall.

What other advice do I have?

The product has decent functionality. I would rate this product as eight out of ten.

    Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

I previously used Symantec and switched because the quality of support, stability, and accuracy went down
    Pros and Cons
    • "I like all the features with Proofpoint, such as how it filters the spam and marketing mail, lost reality mail, blocks phishing attacks, blocks malicious attachments, and stops phishing links. Also it can defend against the business email compromise impersonation technique. It is a complete solution for all email attacks. It filters for the bad, malicious attachments. If there is any executable file, it can be deleted. It is a good, complete solution."
    • "The reporting section could be enhanced. I like some reports but if they could allow us to create custom reports with more flexibility it would enhance the reports more."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for Proofpoint Email Protection is for email security, to secure all the inbound and outbound emails.

How has it helped my organization?

The improvement was achieved by solving the problem of huge false positives and thus saving the time wasted by me in advance to check the legitimate e-mails that Symantec Messaging Gateway had stopped by mistake.

In addition to the additional protection layers that we got in this solution, such as : URL Defense , Attachment Defense (Sandboxing)

    What is most valuable?

I like all the features with Proofpoint, such as how it filters the spam and marketing mail, lost reality mail, blocks phishing attacks, blocks malicious attachments, and stops phishing links. Also it can defend against the business email compromise impersonation technique. It is a complete solution for all email attacks. It filters for the bad, malicious attachments. If there is any executable file, it can be deleted. It is a good, complete solution.

Additionally, the user interface is good, it's easy to use. Whoever has good technical skills can understand it. Even the normal user can handle this solution easily. By the way, I was using Symantec Messaging Gateway. I don't recommended it at all, it makes a lot of issues. A lot of false positives were happening. So I started evaluating Proofpoint and Mimecast. Both products are okay, but I liked Proofpoint more because I saw that it has a high accuracy, offers a very good service, and their support is amazing. So as a whole product, I preferred Proofpoint. But Mimecast is also good.

    What needs improvement?

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Proofpoint Email Protection for four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Proofpoint is stable I have not had any issues. Their system was never down over the last four or five months. Their system is fine, perfect until now. It is okay, it's stable, without any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, they have many bundles, but I only take the section that will secure my email, both the inbound and the outbound email. Now they have other advanced bundles, for example for email archiving. I didn't take it. They have other sections and other bundles, but I'm not interested in them because I have alternative solutions.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Symantec. After the acquisition process, Symantec was sold to Broadcom. There are many reasons I switched to Proofpoint. The first one was that their support became very bad. If you opened a ticket they would respond after two weeks. Secondly, the quality, stability, and accuracy of their product started to be bad. So much legitimate mail was stopped by this solution which made issues with my business, even for the outbound email. I switched because of the quality of the product and the product support.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is normal. It's not complex. Yes I'm a technical guy so I didn't face any issues. For me it was okay to implement, maybe it only took two or three hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Proofpoint is a little bit expensive. The pricing could be more competitive.

Mimecast and Barracuda prices are cheaper than Proofpoint. But there are other vendors, like Firefly and others whose prices are not cheap. But they provided me a good price because I was a Symantec customer moving to Proofpoint. I think the price is significant, it's not too expensive but not cheap. Just a little bit expensive. But everything is included.

What other advice do I have?

My advice is that any customer who is concerned for his users has to look at Proofpoint. I recommend Proofpoint. You see a lot of attacks coming through emails. So I recommend Proofpoint for any customer, regardless of the size of the company. By the way, they have another product for smaller companies, the essential version. I have the enterprise version because I need more customization with more features. The smaller companies who have less than 100 users can go with the essential version, which is cheaper.

On a scale of one to ten, I would give Proofpoint Email Protection a nine.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
