Scalable, easy to set up and very easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is highly scalable."
  • "The feedback we are getting from our customers, especially here in Turkey where the exchange rate fluctuates regularly, is that the solution is quite expensive."

What is most valuable?

The ease of use is the solution's most valuable aspect for us at this point.

You can manage everything from the console, which is very convenient.

The high level of technology of the database services being served to the customers is impressive.

The security is excellent. We feel very protected by the solution.

The solution is very easy to set up.

The product is highly scalable.

There is very good documentation available to users for troubleshooting, et cetera.

What needs improvement?

From a technology standpoint, the solution is almost perfect. We don't feel that anything is lacking in that sense.

The feedback we are getting from our customers, especially here in Turkey where the exchange rate fluctuates regularly, is that the solution is quite expensive. Other cloud competitors are less costly. From our country's point of view, I would say that it needs to be cheaper.

When the solution faces downtime, it can be for hours or half a day. This is far too long.

For how long have I used the solution?

I would say that I started using AWS around 2017.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. That said, there are some instances that some of the services in some of the regions might go down. The downtime sometimes will last longer than you expected. We expect that occasionally the downtime maybe a few minutes or half an hour. That's not always the case. Sometimes it can be hours. Sometimes it can even be half a day. For us, the downtime is a problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable. You can create thousands of servers in minutes or something like that, so it's very scalable. If a company needs to expand, it can do so with ease using this solution.

The types of businesses we typically deal with are rather small.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't used technical support. I haven't yet had a need to. Therefore, I can't discuss anything in regards to their helpfulness or knowledgeability. That speaks to how good their product has been overall.

That said, if you run into problems, most of the issues that you are having in terms of technical difficulties can be solved within the documentation.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is very easy to install. If you start short-term with the database services, and if you then get the Web Services, it's very easy. A company shouldn't have any trouble setting everything up. It's not complex.

I tend to manage the solution for my clients once it is installed.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Due to currency fluctuations in Turkey, we find the product to be on the more expensive side. There are other, cheaper options on the market.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a consultant. If the customer wants an AWS solution or AWS consultancy, I give these services to them. If they want some local provider, I also work with them.

We are using the latest version of the solution.

Most of my clients don't know the technology and don't want to get into deep technical knowledge in terms of the solution itself. They don't want to manage AWS. They just want to let someone manage their infrastructure and AWS services for them. There aren't too many large companies dealing with AWS on a massive scale in Turkey. I don't really deal with larger entities anyway.

So long as an organization's focus is not on pricing, I would recommend the solution.

In general, I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

Reliable, scalable, and simple installation
Pros and Cons
  • "We found the solution to be reliable."
  • "The customization could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution only internally as a private cloud to store our files, our projects, and to keep our servers running.

What needs improvement?

The customization could be improved.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We found the solution to be reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my experience the scalability is good. We have six people using the solution in my organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

We never had to use the support but I have heard the support was good.

How was the initial setup?

The installation was simple because we already have set it up before, it was very quick.

What about the implementation team?

We did the deployment ourselves. Since we only use the solution for our internal files it allowed us to do the deployment in just one day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price could be better.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Amazon AWS a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

A perfect solution with good features, security, integration, and support
Pros and Cons
  • "They are enterprising and pretty good in terms of features. It has good security. Its availability is also pretty good. It is available everywhere in the world. It has pretty good integrations, and it is working well. They have done a lot of improvements, and its UI has improved a lot."
  • "They currently have fewer regions in Asia, especially in India, China, and other places. They can maybe put more data centers in this region."

What is our primary use case?

We run everything on AWS. You can run anything on this, such as web servers, application servers, and containers as a service.

What is most valuable?

They are enterprising and pretty good in terms of features. It has good security. Its availability is also pretty good. It is available everywhere in the world.

It has pretty good integrations, and it is working well. They have done a lot of improvements, and its UI has improved a lot.

What needs improvement?

They currently have fewer regions in Asia, especially in India, China, and other places. They can maybe put more data centers in this region.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three to four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable. They keep on improving it continuously.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. A lot of people are using it, especially DevOps.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support is pretty fast and good. They provide worldwide support, and everything is taken care of.

How was the initial setup?

It is straightforward. You have all the documentation, so it is pretty good. For its deployment, two or three people should be more than enough.

What other advice do I have?

Everything is good in this solution. They are number one, and they have done everything. The number of services is very huge, and they have taken care of everything. We plan to keep using this solution.

I would rate Amazon AWS a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable with great performance and good pricing
Pros and Cons
  • "The performance of AWS is excellent."
  • "The overall convenience and the ease to use could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for the infrastructure. We use it specifically for hosting the infrastructure and hosting our analytics database.

What is most valuable?

So far, the stability is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's one of its great selling features.

The performance of AWS is excellent.

The cost-effectiveness is something we appreciate. It isn't too expensive for us to leverage AWS.

What needs improvement?

The overall convenience and the ease to use could be improved. Right now, for example, we still have an integrator that helps us. They help us do the so-called hand-holding to get us started. Once we start, we can train up staff and we can manage most of the operations ourselves. It's just that first little bit that's difficult to handle alone.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for a few years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of AWS is excellent. We don't have to worry about it crashing or freezing. There aren't bugs or glitches to contend with. It's reliable and we've enjoyed its stability thus far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the product is very, very good. It's one of the great benefits of the cloud. You don't really have to worry about hitting a wall. It can expand pretty well as much as you need it to.

We have about 30 or so people on the solution right now. They are mostly our analytical team and some business users.

We have plans to continue usage and we may also increase usage in the future.

How are customer service and technical support?

Our team has used technical support in the past. I haven't myself, personally, however, my team called them for technical questions. We tend to use either AWS or our system integrator when it comes to answering some troubleshooting issues.

The support could be better. It's my understanding that they need to take some sort of certification, and that there is a bit of a learning curve. They're not bad, however, as I mentioned, they could be more proficient. While some seem to be certified, others need to polish their skillsets.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did use another solution previously. We used Horizon before. We also use some other data pipeline, however, they were more of a niche market cloud provider, unlike Amazon, which is more widespread and has a broader scope.

How was the initial setup?

We are using it on the cloud basis. We don't have any integration on-premises. We found the installation, in that sense, somewhat easy, although there were some moving parts that we still needed a bit of help with.

What about the implementation team?

We had an integrator help us a bit. They did some hand-holding to make sure everything got up and running properly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of the solution is quite good. It's very reasonable and very affordable.

That said, I don't deal with billing and licensing directly and therefore don't have the exact numbers in relation to how much we pay.

What other advice do I have?

We're using the latest version of the solution. The cloud is instantaneously upgrading us to the latest version.

I'd recommend the solution to other organizations. We've been pretty happy with the product so far.

Overall, I would rate it at an eight out of ten. If it offered better support and had a more user-friendly setup I'd likely rate it higher.

A cloud computing solution to quickly deploy in multi-data regions, but the price could be better
Pros and Cons
  • "The most important feature is deploying our production in multi-data regions around the world."
  • "I think the price can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use AWS, EC2, and RDS. We also use the BI tools and the data warehouse.

What is most valuable?

The most important feature is deploying our production in multi-data regions around the world.

What needs improvement?

I think the price can be improved. The price is high now, and Amazon's web portal can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Amazon AWS for about four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Amazon AWS is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable now that EC2 can support scaling.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward, and we deploy our production every week.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price can be better.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Amazon AWS a five.

Good vehicle to start a small business, it is stable, and it has an easy-to-use dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the flexibility of this solution."
  • "I would appreciate more direct support from AWS."

What is our primary use case?

I have my own company, so I am not personally working with it. Rather, my team is working with this solution.

What is most valuable?

My experience with AWS has been good. AWS is a good vehicle to get your business started without too much of an upfront investment.

I like the flexibility of this solution. It's quick ramp up, ramp down, being able to provide the resources at a click of a button.

If you wanted to try a new solution or try it out for a Proof of Concept then provisioning the EC2 and the S3 buckets is very quick.

In addition to that, the sums of scaling operations.

The dashboard is very easy to use.

Its real-time support is pretty good.

What needs improvement?

I would appreciate more direct support from AWS. I have some good personal contacts with AWS and through that, I am able to get some help. But, on a professional level with a small to medium-sized enterprise that needs any direct support from AWS, it is not supported. It is typically a part of the business model. They encourage you to go through one of their Implementation partners.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon AWS for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The overall stability of the product is good.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not used the technical support from AWS, because we are a company without a partnership. We contact their implementation partners for support. We also work closely with our client's implementation partners who have been fairly helpful. They have been able to deliver.

The technical support from AWS has not been very forthcoming. It is very difficult to get.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use Lambda functions, such as trolling, multi-threaded, and compute as a service model. That is very interesting.

We liked it very much, and we use it for some of our clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is reasonable, but as your usage goes up, AWS has a provision for businesses, and there's an option of locking it for three years.

I think that they also give discounts. Although, as your scale of operation goes up, I think the price probably becomes too high.

As a startup business, it's very well priced, but if a number of transactions go up, clients have voiced that they are in a situation and feel a type of pressure and desire to move out of AWS.

They feel this way only once the scale of operation goes beyond a critical mass or critical threshold. It becomes a completely managed service beyond a point, and then it no longer remains cost-effective. Our usage goes up as well as the monthly recurring costs.

So the price is something they should definitely look at. They should look at some kind of cost or price optimization, as the scale grows up large, the more the economies of scale keep in. They should try to become more competitive.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I am very happy in the technicality area.

I would rate Amazon AWS a nine out of ten.

Reliable, scalable, with S3 feature included, and priced well
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of this solution is the S3."
  • "The initial setup was very complex."

What is our primary use case?

Most of our applications are installed on the AWS. The enterprise solutions are installed on AWS.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is the S3.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon AWS for a couple of years.

We are using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's very reliable. We have not had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable solution. We have 25 users in our organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

We do not contact them directly. We reach out to our contractor and they contact AWS technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very complex.

What about the implementation team?

We have a reseller who helped with the deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The costing model is very confusing.

The cost is on a monthly basis.

We are happy with the pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others who are interested in using it.

I would rate Amazon AWS a nine out of ten.

A robust cloud solution that's intuitive, user-friendly, and cost-effective
Pros and Cons
  • "Amazon AWS is user-friendly and intuitive."
  • "The pricing structure can be improved and made more straightforward."

What is our primary use case?

There are different use cases. I have worked on backup and recovery, migrations, created new user accounts from scratch, security and compliance, PCI DSS compliance, and CIS benchmark compliance.

How has it helped my organization?

We are dependent on AWS 100%, and it has definitely improved our organization.

What is most valuable?

It isn't easy to choose a feature as it all depends. For example, there might be a feature for a specific use case. Amazon has many use cases and many deployment types. But overall, Amazon AWS is user-friendly and intuitive. It's also quite secure. The interface is okay and integrates well with other products.

What needs improvement?

The pricing structure can be improved and made more straightforward. There are so many options, and you have to make several choices before confirming the final cost.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Amazon AWS for about four years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

AWS is the most scalable and reliable cloud computing solution out there.

How are customer service and technical support?

Tech support is amazing.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Amazon AWS is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Amazon AWS is really cost-effective. But the number of choices that you have to make can make the pricing very difficult. You have so many options, so it can be quite difficult to get into pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise potential AWS customers to get the right training for the right solution. The training is, for the most part, pretty easy. It's easier than having a private data center.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Amazon AWS a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
