Reliable, simple, and functional
Pros and Cons
  • "It's a simple, functional solution."
  • "What we would like from the IT perspective is a lot more granular control, more visibility into the packets, into the routing, and things of that nature."

What is our primary use case?

For some clients, it helps to go over the graph of throughput and utilization with the client looking at a per-machine utilization. They can see, "Are we hitting the cap? Is it time for growth?" Or, "I thought there was no usage, yet now you're showing me there was a high usage, so let's investigate what was using the network." The graphing that was provided on the dashboard was helpful in those ways.

What is most valuable?

It's a simple, functional solution.

The solution can scale.

It is stable and reliable.

What needs improvement?

It would go against the philosophy of Meraki since Meraki prides itself on being clean and simple, and functional. However, what we would like from the IT perspective is a lot more granular control, more visibility into the packets, into the routing, and things of that nature. That would be more helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable, as in you can build upon it and add more locations and things like that. However, in complexity, it is not scalable.

What was our ROI?

We have witnessed an ROI while using the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You do pay a premium, and that premium is only worth it if the simplicity of the dashboard brings you an advantage. However, if the simplicity doesn't bring you an advantage, then this product might not be for you.

What other advice do I have?

We use different versions of the solution.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. We enjoy its capabilities for the most part.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A nice centralized console with an easy setup and good reliability
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was easy."
  • "The solution can be expensive."

What is our primary use case?

The Meraki Dashboard we are using for the cloud. On-premise, we build or fix division racks and all the customer recommend configurations. We'll go and inspects, for example, what is the VLAN? What is the solution?

We will do the configuration and everything remotely. We do everything on the backend, including Meraki switches, Meraki access points, and Meraki firewalls. We'll take the remote session and open that and handle things remotely.

What is most valuable?

With this product, we get a better sense of if something is changing the configuration. In other firewalls, we're not able to change anything, however, we can revert back.

The initial setup was easy.

The solution is stable.

We like the ability to see everything in one single console.

We can log in from anywhere in the world.

The filtering on offer is good.

What needs improvement?

We need to log into the solution separately. We can only log into a single access point. For example, we can log into one firewall or access point and do configurations. We cannot do multiple configurations across multiple endpoints.

We'd like more support on the side of the ISP.

The solution can be expensive.

We'd like to be able to see new, upcoming features and have alerts when they are available or coming up.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for the last six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. Everything is fine. It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable product. We haven't had any conflicts in that sense.

At this point, we have four people using the solution. They are network engineers.

How are customer service and support?

I've never needed the assistance of technical support. I've learned some basic knowledge and that has been enough so far.

If there is something we cannot fix, we will reach out to support. For example, we are trying to do the packet capture. The traffic is not going. We'll try to check the configuration first and we'll try to check the logs. Still, if we are not able to find the issue, we'll look into how we can get the issue resolved and may ask for help.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also work with Fortigate.

How was the initial setup?

It's an easy product to set up. We know the architecture and the configurations. If we don't know the concept, then it can be more difficult to set up.

This is a small company. We can do an implementation in a day or maybe two. It's pretty fast.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the initial implementation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

While I cannot speak to the exact cost, it is my understanding the price is high.

What other advice do I have?

We are a partner.

We are using the latest update of the product.

I'd recommend the solution to others.

I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use and comprehensive
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are that it's easy to use and technically very complete, and I can configure, do advanced troubleshooting in the dashboard, and reboot access points remotely."
  • "More integration would be an improvement."
  • "The price could be lower because the license for access points is expensive."

What is our primary use case?

I use Meraki Dashboard for teachers' inventory, configuration, troubleshooting, reports, and management.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are that it's easy to use and technically very complete. I can configure, do advanced troubleshooting in the dashboard, and reboot access points remotely.

What needs improvement?

More integration would be an improvement - for example, I can manage the Cisco Meraki access point but not the Cisco access point.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for almost ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Meraki Dashboard's stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Meraki Dashboard is very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Meraki's technical support is very good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Motorola and Aerohive. We switched from Aerohive because it was hard to work, confusing, and not user-friendly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was hard work because we had to implement more than 1000 access points in more than 70 independent networks. However, with the implementations done, I can now implement a new network in around ten minutes.

What about the implementation team?

The first implementation was done using a partner.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price could be lower because the license for access points is expensive. We pay almost $5000 for a three-year contract with Dashboard included.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Fortinet.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Meraki Dashboard ten out of ten.

Easy to implement, simple to use, and has a very nice interface
Pros and Cons
  • "It's really user-friendly."
  • "It's an easy-to-use product; it's really user-friendly, with a great, simple user interface and a very stable platform, and the initial implementation process is simple."
  • "There needs to be more improvement on the device-connected interface."
  • "There needs to be a better way of identifying some hardware. For example, there is some hardware where only the mask address is available - not the full name."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for small and medium-sized organizations.

What is most valuable?

It's an easy-to-use product. It's really user-friendly. The product is not really hard to understand. There is so much information relative to the device, and the connected device, or a non-active line, or something like that.

The user interface is great. It's quite simple.

It's very stable.

The initial implementation process is simple.

What needs improvement?

I can't speak to what needs to be improved. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

There needs to be a better way of identifying some hardware. For example, there is some hardware where only the mask address is available - not the full name. There needs to be more improvement on the device-connected interface.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is great. It's reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 150 users on the solution right now.

How are customer service and support?

I've never used technical support in the past. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not a difficult process. It's pretty easy. That said, it depends on the internet connection.

We have three technical teams that are capable of handling the deployment process. They are compromised of managers and two engineers.

What about the implementation team?

If the contact gives us all the information we need, then we can handle the implementation alone.

I cannot recall how long it took to deploy the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There might be an additional subscription fee.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution to other users and companies. I've been pretty satisfied with its capabilities so far.

I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten overall.

Easy to access, simple configuration, and responsive technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "Some of the features I have found valuable are the ease of access, simple configuration, and monitoring."
  • "There are some issues with the NAT configuration, it is now impossible to some operations with the solution."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to connect any devices to the network and for monitoring.

What is most valuable?

Some of the features I have valuable are ease of access, simple configuration, and monitoring. We do not need a lot of people to solve problems because the solution is easy to use. Easy access is important especially in the summertime when you are on holiday and want to connect mobile devices.

What needs improvement?

There are some issues with the NAT configuration, it is now impossible to some operations with the solution.

I would like to see a VPN feature in a future release that supports tunnelling.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found the solution to be stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is extremely fast, we were about to fix many of our issues in one day. The staff is knowledgeable and able to help.

What other advice do I have?

No solution can be a ten, nothing is perfect.

I rate Meraki Dashboard a nine out of ten.

A comprehensive dashboard that is simple and easy to navigate
Pros and Cons
  • "The dashboard itself is very simplified and easy to navigate."
  • "Meraki gives a very comprehensive dashboard which gives the customer a lot of flexibility in terms of understanding the exact situational position of their infrastructure and what is happening in terms of the infrastructure, or how their access points are behaving."
  • "If I am a user and I have a seat on the fourth floor, if I move across the building, the system should be able to track me and should be able to figure out my whereabouts or my position within the building if I'm connected to the wireless. That would make the administrator's life easier in terms of reachability."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for the dashboard functionalities.

What is most valuable?

Meraki is basically a product we sell as a dashboard. It's the best part of the solution and its greatest selling feature.

Meraki gives a very comprehensive dashboard which gives the customer a lot of flexibility in terms of understanding the exact situational position of their infrastructure and what is happening in terms of the infrastructure, or how their access points are behaving. They can also gain visibility into access points of zones.

The dashboard itself is very simplified and easy to navigate.

There is good documentation in the form of manuals.

The management is very good.It typically covers all of our client's requirements. Most of the clients are very into CSG and they are very willing to take the kind of dashboard offering Meraki has.

India is generally pro-Cisco, as far as networking is concerned, which makes the solution an easy sell. Now that the internet bandwidth has become stabilized in India, we get a lot out of the solution. That makes the cloud capabilities very attractive. With the cloud, clients can cancel at any time, and there aren't controllers on-site to worry about.

What needs improvement?

Overall, the dashboard is already quite good.

However, a few popular improvements that could be suggested include user-based tracking and user-based location tracking. If a client could add those things on, on top of whatever they're using, that would be ideal.

For example, within a building, if I am a user and I have a seat on the fourth floor, if I move across the building, the system should be able to track me and should be able to figure out my whereabouts or my position within the building if I'm connected to the wireless. That would make the administrator's life easier in terms of reachability.

There should be a certain amount of visibility in terms of security validation, or vulnerability assessment. If that can be incorporated, that would be great.

For example, in a single dashboard, you could be getting security incidents, so you could better be able to understand your readiness from the security perspective.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution for two to two and a half years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is extremely stable. I haven't found it to be non-operational on any of my customers. It's reliable. It doesn't crash or freeze. There are no bugs.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As far as scalability is concerned it's simply all about putting additional licenses and adding more number of access points. It's quite scalable, and it's very easy to expand the offering.

The dashboard won't change. The look and feel will remain the same. It's only the number of users and the number of access points that will be added under the same dashboard.

From a scalability perspective or from a manageability perspective, Meraki has a great amount of potential.

How are customer service and technical support?

In terms of technical support feedback, I won't be able to comment on anything as I am not from an implementation team. This work is being handled by my implementation team, and, since I don't assist in that respect, I've never dealt with technical support directly.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not very complex.

In terms of the length of time it takes, I won't be able to comment on the deployment part, as it's not something I handle personally. What I've heard from my implementation team is that the time compared to any other on-prem solution is pretty fast. It's really about the access points and having them share a little bit of the cloud. You can simply have a plugin-based kind of deployment scenario as well. It's not hard.

Of course, there are obviously security policies that come into play as well. That has to be done regardless of if it is on-premises or not. Security items can be complicated. That said, our team considers the setup to be easy. It's simple and fast to deploy overall.

What about the implementation team?

We handle the implementation for our clients.

What other advice do I have?

We are Cisco partners. We deal with a variety of Cisco products in their rather large portfolio.

We tend to observe whatever is required for the client's environment and we do ensure we take care of all those requirements. Our approach is all client-driven. Based on that, we tend to work with different versions. Most of the customers want to go with the latest version.

I would definitely recommend the solution.

From what I have seen in the last couple of years there's a trend towards the cloud market in India (apart from a few governments). In India, we have a government regulation that if you want to have your data on the cloud, then you have to meet certain compliances and you have to have data held centrally in India only. There are lots of challenges in government cloud operations.

Apart from the government, whether it's a large, small or medium-sized enterprise, this solution would work well. They will find a lot of value in having a Meraki solution in their company. I have noticed that most of the customers moving to a cloud-based situation generally prefer Meraki over any other brands.

Overall, I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

It is very easy to manage and has good security
Pros and Cons
  • "It is very easy to manage. It has good security, and it is working well with our firewall."
  • "There is a bit of a problem when you try to log in and you don't have a fixed IP address. If you're granting access, you need to log in by using the IP address. If your administrator's IP address is not a fixed IP address and it has changed, you might need to update the changed IP address in the interface. For this, you need to log in to the interface to update the IP address. This issue might not have so much to do with Meraki interface."
  • "There is a bit of a problem when you try to log in and you don't have a fixed IP address."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Meraki Dashboard to log in to the firewall and to set up the VPN, etc. Our firewall is deployed on-premises.

What is most valuable?

It is very easy to manage. It has good security, and it is working well with our firewall.

What needs improvement?

There is a bit of a problem when you try to log in and you don't have a fixed IP address.

If you're granting access, you need to log in by using the IP address. If your administrator's IP address is not a fixed IP address and it has changed, you might need to update the changed IP address in the interface. For this, you need to log in to the interface to update the IP address. This issue might not have so much to do with Meraki interface.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not seen any issues with its stability and scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

We contacted their technical support once during the initial setup. We had a couple of questions, and it was a quick call. Their technical support was fine.

We are a volunteer organization. Being a not-for-profit charity, we have a couple of companies that provide charity support to us. We also have one person who remotely provides in-house support.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product. I would rate Meraki Dashboard a nine out of ten.
