My main use case for GoAnywhere MFT is secure file transfer and automation for data exchange between systems and users. I use GoAnywhere MFT to automate daily file transfers between our internal server and external vendors using SFTP instead of manual uploads. I schedule workflows to handle the transfer encryption and delivery automatically, which ensures files are transferred securely and on time without manual efforts.

Automation has transformed secure file transfers and now cuts manual work and errors significantly
Pros and Cons
- "GoAnywhere MFT has improved my organization by automatically handling file transfers and reducing manual work, which increases efficiency, reduces errors, and improves data security."
- "GoAnywhere MFT is a strong tool, but a few improvements could make it even better."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features for me are automation and security. Automation helps significantly because I can schedule and run file transfers without manual work, which saves time and reduces errors. It supports workflows and triggers, so everything runs automatically. Security is another important feature; GoAnywhere MFT supports secure protocols such as SFTP, FTPS, and encryption, which ensures data is protected during transfer and helps with compliance.
A useful feature is detailed login and alerts, which helps me track every file transfer and quickly identify failures or issues, thereby improving monitoring and making troubleshooting much easier.
GoAnywhere MFT has improved my organization by automatically handling file transfers and reducing manual work, which increases efficiency, reduces errors, and improves data security. After implementing GoAnywhere MFT, I have reduced manual efforts by around forty to fifty percent due to automation, and file transfer errors have also decreased significantly since the workflow handles validation and delivery. The process has become faster and more reliable, saving both time and effort.
GoAnywhere MFT helps me meet compliance requirements by providing secure file transfer with encryption, detailed audit logs, and user access control. All file transfers are tracked and logged, which aids during audits.
What needs improvement?
GoAnywhere MFT is a strong tool, but a few improvements could make it even better. The user interface could be more modern and easier to navigate, especially for new users, and internal setup and configuration could be simplified. More customization in reports would also be helpful, and improving performance for large workloads would enhance the overall experience.
Overall, it works very well, but small improvements such as faster navigation, better search options, and more ready-made templates for workflows would make daily tasks easier. These enhancements would improve usability while retaining the strong features it already has.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for around four years.

Secure encrypted file sharing has transformed how we transfer large client data and code
Pros and Cons
- "Overall, GoAnywhere MFT has been a reliable and secure solution for managing file transfers in our organization, being very helpful for our team and clients in terms of security, workflow, and automation."
- "I believe that GoAnywhere MFT can be improved because the initial setup is somewhat challenging for a new user, so they need to make the initial feature easier for everyone, whether new or experienced users."
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for GoAnywhere MFT is file transfer. Before using GoAnywhere MFT for file transfer, we could only transfer 2GB of data using one of the free tools, but after we started using GoAnywhere, our files are very secure and encrypted because we work on client data, so we can securely share all the database and all the code with our clients.
We started using GoAnywhere MFT four months ago, and our major use case is file transfer because we are working on some tools related to banking and e-commerce, so we use this tool for sending data to our clients.
What is most valuable?
The best feature of GoAnywhere MFT, in my opinion, is file sharing in encrypted form. The encryption feature in GoAnywhere MFT stands out for me because while the initial setup is a bit complicated, the encrypted use cases are excellent compared to other tools, which is why we can use this tool.
I would add that GoAnywhere MFT includes secure transfer protocols such as HTTPS, SFTP, and FTPS and more advanced B2B standards, and the encryption, authentication, and access control are features I appreciate most, along with reporting. GoAnywhere MFT has impacted my organization positively, with security being the most important reason we use this tool.
What needs improvement?
I believe that GoAnywhere MFT can be improved because the initial setup is somewhat challenging for a new user, so they need to make the initial feature easier for everyone, whether new or experienced users. I also think that the UI needs improvement, aiming for cleaner and quicker visuals.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for the last four months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
GoAnywhere MFT is stable in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
GoAnywhere MFT's scalability is great.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for GoAnywhere MFT is good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Negative
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used WeTransfer. We decided to switch from WeTransfer to GoAnywhere MFT because WeTransfer is not secure and there is a limit of only 2GB that we can send to clients, but with GoAnywhere, we can send more than 2GB.
How was the initial setup?
We purchased GoAnywhere MFT directly from their website.
What about the implementation team?
We purchased GoAnywhere MFT directly from their website.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment. GoAnywhere MFT saves a lot of time for our team, allowing us to share files securely with our clients.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other options before choosing GoAnywhere MFT; I researched this tool and after that, I purchased it without looking at other tools.
What other advice do I have?
This tool is much faster compared to other tools, and our clients feel more secure about their data. Although we have faced errors in some cases, not with this tool. I would advise others to use GoAnywhere MFT instead of other tools because it is secure and faster than the competition.
Overall, GoAnywhere MFT has been a reliable and secure solution for managing file transfers in our organization, being very helpful for our team and clients in terms of security, workflow, and automation. Learn what your peers think about GoAnywhere MFT. Get advice and tips from experienced pros sharing their opinions. Updated: June 2026.
902,270 professionals have used our research since 2012.
Software Developer at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Implementation simplifies secure file transfers but requires 24/7 support improvements
Pros and Cons
- "GoAnywhere MFT has lower capabilities because it has limited features, but it serves its purpose."
What is our primary use case?
With the use case for GoAnywhere MFT, I was setting it up to be similar to the use case that I have for Globalscape because with this MFT-based solution, everything is about creating users since it is all tool-based. The product has all the features, including administrations, where we need to create the users. We need to create users' event rules to take the files and upload them to the destination, push the files, and handle reporting and everything. Most of the steps will be the same, except for a couple of things.
What is most valuable?
The best features of GoAnywhere MFT so far, from what I've seen, is that it is a light version. For just the purpose of uploading and pushing the files, transferring the files is the main objective. That's where we use GoAnywhere MFT, because it is a very light version, and the price is definitely less compared to the Globalscape enterprise level. The purpose will be resolved if you want to use more transactions and more file transfers with a secured process.
What needs improvement?
If it is out of the country, with Fortra support in other regions and countries, there will be timing differences. You need to wait until that time because they only work on a US basis, not 24/7. It is just US timing, 8:00 to 5:00. They need to get sorted out to get 24/7 support, so that every country can benefit from the support.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been experimenting with GoAnywhere MFT for the past three months since becoming US-based on an H1B visa.
How are customer service and support?
I rate the Fortra support or customer service as a seven because the support was there every time. When we log a ticket, it is immediately assigned to a person who will call us. They will ask about all the pre-steps we need to do, where we create a log with verbose, log the issues, and send them the screenshots of the issues with log files attached. Based upon that, they do the pre-checks on everything, get the solution, and send us an email. If we cannot resolve it straightforwardly, they will schedule a call to assist.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
With Globalscape, I built knowledge, not with GoAnywhere MFT. With Globalscape, we got an in-between DMZ gateway to secure. Anything coming from outside traffic is secured because we got a DMZ gateway, which doesn't expose our IP addresses and everything on the security point. It can take any number of connections, so there is no problem with the connections. It integrates with anything.
How was the initial setup?
With both Fortra and GoAnywhere MFT, if you want the GoAnywhere MFT product, we need to buy a license from the company, Fortra. It is straightforward, and we get support on installation and everything. If you want a larger and more complex solution, that's where we use advanced workflow engines to create event rules.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I was comparing differences by exploring other tools as GoAnywhere MFT and IBM Sterling, though not too deeply.
What other advice do I have?
I am still exploring the connectors for services such as Salesforce, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, and other connectors. It works for remote purposes because every MFT product has a web transfer client. We can use the HTTPS method to upload the files, or use SFTP tools to upload the files.
The importance of remote agents with GoAnywhere MFT is that everything should be automated, with no manual interaction. We can schedule it at a particular time, and the agent has to trigger. Once the file is automatically generated, it has to be uploaded and transferred to the destination.
Each agent serves a specific purpose - one for file generation, one for encryption, one for uploading files, and one for alerts about successful transfers and failures. Multiple agents act on individual tasks.
Fortra's capabilities for automation have grown significantly. They can be used in any domain, including medical, healthcare, and industrial sectors. The security is impressive with highly enabled components and features, including TLS. Fortra has reduced prices, and their automation has improved significantly.
If it's not complex, GoAnywhere MFT is straightforward for taking files and pushing them in large numbers. The product currently operates as a hub between different environments. Users need to be on a virtual server to install a Windows-based server to upload files.
GoAnywhere MFT has lower capabilities because it has limited features, but it serves its purpose. Some people only want file transfers without notifications or status updates, and considering the budget, it satisfies these requirements.
I rate this solution a 6 out of 10.

File Transfer Analyst at IG Group
Enables secure and efficient file transfers with customizable automations
Pros and Cons
- "GoAnywhere MFT has saved me time in connecting securely with third parties that I need to collaborate with."
- "One area where GoAnywhere MFT has room for improvement is in how the application reports issues; when the application runs on a server and encounters problems, it doesn't provide detailed information on the server issues, which could help users troubleshoot better."
What is our primary use case?
My use case with GoAnywhere MFT differs from organization to organization. In my previous organization, the purpose of using GoAnywhere MFT was multiple—specifically, they were using it for automating user file transfers, which includes securely storing files that had to be protected. The system provides a folder in encrypted format, and the files at rest would also be encrypted, meaning only the authorized personnel can access and download them. In addition to this, there was a secure mail feature in GoAnywhere MFT that allowed transferring files of any size through email.
However, in my current organization, they primarily use it just for file transfers without storing the files.
What is most valuable?
The biggest improvement I've seen since using GoAnywhere MFT for three to four years is in security; control over our network security is the biggest factor to consider, and the solution automatically identifies and blocks attempts to attack our system. Additionally, the transfer speed is impressive; even if files are in GBs, it doesn't take much time to transfer, increasing our organization's efficiency significantly.
In my opinion, the best feature of GoAnywhere MFT is its user-friendly UI; it's very simple to use compared to other managed file transfer tools such as MOVEit and Axway, which are a bit more complicated.
While we don't use any connectors for services such as Salesforce, SharePoint Online, or MS365, GoAnywhere MFT does have the capability of connecting to these systems either through SFTP, HTTPS protocols, or API-based connections. The way it works here is different; we set up a resource-based connection to connect to various services such as SAP or Salesforce.
The range of connectors that GoAnywhere MFT provides out of the box is quite extensive; it covers everything from legacy tools that support AS2 connections to the latest services such as AWS and Azure Blobs.
I'm very satisfied with the connectivity options available in GoAnywhere MFT; they include everything you can think of, and as long as the system you want to connect to accepts connections, we can connect using AS2, AS4, and other cloud connectors.
In relation to the agents, they are crucial for extending MFT automation to remote systems. I've noticed that in my previous organization, agents were not used as we connected via network shares, which led to occasional connectivity issues. Now, using agents increases the file transfer speed by about 20 to 30%, and they provide a more stable connection compared to legacy network shares.
What needs improvement?
One area where GoAnywhere MFT has room for improvement is in how the application reports issues; when the application runs on a server and encounters problems, it doesn't provide detailed information on the server issues, which could help users troubleshoot better. Additionally, I've had experiences where support teams focused on upgrading to the latest version instead of addressing existing issues, which is concerning.
These server issues are the main concern; otherwise, the tool is smooth and easy to use.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started using GoAnywhere MFT in March 2021, and now it's July, so I have been using it for four years and three to four months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
From one to ten, I would rate the stability of GoAnywhere MFT an 8.5 to nine.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
As for scalability, I would say it has some issues, and I would rate it a 7.5 to eight, as sometimes it can be unpredictable.
How are customer service and support?
For technical support, I would rate it a 7.5.
If I had to give a solid number for support, it would be a 7.5.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to using GoAnywhere MFT, I had experience with MOVEit and Axway. Compared to MOVEit, I feel that GoAnywhere MFT has more features and a better UI, although Axway does provide more API-based solutions.
How was the initial setup?
The setup of GoAnywhere MFT is not complex, but I wouldn't categorize it as easy either. I would rate it as medium in terms of complexity.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a good return on investment with GoAnywhere MFT. Although I'm not exactly sure about the percentage, I would say the value we get corresponds well to what we invest.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding pricing, I would categorize GoAnywhere MFT as an expensive solution; it's definitely not cheap.
What other advice do I have?
The machines are provided by Dell, but we manage the infrastructure ourselves; it's not related to any specific cloud provider such as Amazon, Azure, or GCP.
Approximately 1,200 to 1,300 users utilize GoAnywhere MFT in my organization. My organization is considered an enterprise business.
Regarding deployment time, it depends on how big the implementation is; at a minimum, it would take about 20 to 30 days to set up from scratch.
The solution does require some maintenance; this includes maintaining accumulated files that are no longer useful, which can involve manual intervention.
GoAnywhere MFT has saved me time in connecting securely with third parties that I need to collaborate with. I would estimate that it has saved me approximately 70 to 80% of the time.
We have multiple automations or processes running on different platforms, servers, or APIs. We typically have one server, and GoAnywhere MFT handles all of our file transfers and API usage; aside from that, we use another tool called PagerDuty for alert management.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate GoAnywhere MFT a 9.5.

Automation has streamlined secure workflows and connects diverse third-party services
Pros and Cons
- "GoAnywhere MFT's connectors are very important to my daily operations because the flexibility to connect to different third-party applications makes GoAnywhere MFT shine compared to other MFT solutions."
- "Security measures still have a long way to go, but since GoAnywhere MFT focuses on IT automation, this enables the company to provide IT staff with more productivity on other aspects of their jobs."
What is our primary use case?
With GoAnywhere MFT, I am able to move between and explore the use cases from automation to data translation, REST API, SOAP API calls, and integration with third-party applications like ICAP and its sister solution, Clearswift Secure ICAP Gateway and more. Most importantly, I specialize in the project workflow and the automation feature of GoAnywhere MFT.
Most of the connectors that I use within GoAnywhere MFT is the ICAP connector, which connects to a secure internet content adaptation protocol to provide an additional feature of GoAnywhere MFT, which is data leak prevention and antivirus scanning.
On the range of connectors available in GoAnywhere MFT, I have not received any complaints from the customers we have installed or deployed GoAnywhere MFT for, but I understand technology is fast-growing, and I hope GoAnywhere MFT will not be left behind.
GoAnywhere MFT's connectors are very important to my daily operations because the flexibility to connect to different third-party applications makes GoAnywhere MFT shine compared to other MFT solutions.
With my company being represented, it will be better for my review to be published.
What is most valuable?
In my opinion, the best function in GoAnywhere MFT is the Secure Forms. My personal favorite is the Secure Forms, wherein I can create custom fields that support different types of fields such as text boxes, radio buttons, and more. The back end is integrated with a project workflow that creates the automation, making everything in the process much easier and more accurate within the organization.

What is most valuable?
The best features I enjoy about GoAnywhere MFT are its automation and workflow studio. We use its drag and drop interface for building workflows in interpreter and powerful mode, which is the best feature we appreciate about this tool.
GoAnywhere MFT has improved my organization by making it easy to share files between two or more servers. From one computer, a user can share a file with a different user in an easy and secure way. End-to-end encryption allows data to be transferred between two servers or between two users. It is far more secure and easy for transferring files.
What needs improvement?
I think GoAnywhere MFT can improve in UI/UX redesigning and better cloud-native deployments. My environment is mostly built on the cloud, so if it were more compatible with the cloud, deployment would be easier for us.
I have it deployed on the cloud, but it does not provide better features on the cloud. I would appreciate enhancements for Kubernetes and serverless compute services.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a seven. I think it is a seven because sometimes it lags.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability of GoAnywhere MFT as a nine. It is easy to use and scalable.

I do not use any other platforms to compare GoAnywhere MFT. We are compatible with MFT, which is why we are using it on our domain.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment overall was easier to use.
What about the implementation team?
GoAnywhere MFT was purchased earlier by my seniors. We have been using it since then.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment of fifty percent.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My thoughts on the pricing are that it is cheap.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I do not use GoAnywhere Connectors for Salesforce, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or any other software.
What other advice do I have?
I have deployed GoAnywhere MFT Agents on remote servers to push and pull files securely. Using the agents is a great way to extend GoAnywhere MFT capability to branch offices and partner systems without exposing the main server.
I use Secure Forms with GoAnywhere MFT for collecting sensitive data from clients, such as KYC documents or onboarding forms. These Secure Forms have helped my business by being customizable and encrypted, which helps us avoid insecure emails and attachments.
I have not yet integrated the GoFast feature to accelerate data transmission with our environment, but I am expecting to in the future.
Between seven to eight people use GoAnywhere MFT. Maintenance such as updates or patching does not fall under our team responsibilities. I can recommend this product to different users and teams as it supports PING, SFTP, and HTTP protocols, which are more secure and easy to use. I gave this product a rating of nine.

Empowers organizations with enhanced file security and efficient data management
Pros and Cons
- "GoAnywhere MFT is a great file-specific, file transfer-specific, and encryption-specific solution."
What is our primary use case?
My use case for the solution is both file transfer and file storage. We use it for file transfer within the organization and also for storing and managing our files at the organization.
How has it helped my organization?
GoAnywhere MFT saves us a lot of time. Previously, we were using simple file sharing platforms, such as Google Suite. However, we were concerned about our file security and encryption, so we chose GoAnywhere MFT. GoAnywhere MFT is a great file-specific, file transfer-specific, and encryption-specific solution. It does its work really well. Other software can handle their work adequately, but the file sharing, file encryption, and file security and sharing are perfect in this solution.
What is most valuable?
The best features I appreciate most about the solution are the security and encryption they provide, which is really awesome. The main reason we use GoAnywhere MFT is the file security. I went through their security policies, and these are really great.
What needs improvement?
One area I want to see improvement is their licensing system. They are still using a key system, similar to Windows activation keys from Microsoft. They should improve that with better pricing plans.
Additionally, they can improve their UI. I really feel it is outdated, so improvement in UI would help.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for around one month.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would say GoAnywhere MFT is stable, though we had downtime for a few minutes due to our company glitches. The issue was not from GCP, so I would rate stability as a nine.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate scalability with GoAnywhere MFT as really good, giving it a rating of ten out of ten.
On the management side, 50 to 60 people use it.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the technical support that GoAnywhere MFT provides around a seven. I talked with the support once, and they were not available at that time.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were previously using simple file sharing platforms, specifically Google Suite. We were concerned about our file security and encryption, which led us to choose GoAnywhere MFT.
How was the initial setup?
We have a hybrid model. Currently, we are using GCP as our cloud provider. We are looking for transferring to some other platform, but for now, we are using GCP.
The deployment is really straightforward. It took within one to two days to get properly set up.
What was our ROI?
The return on investment includes saving time and increasing efficiency. It really increased our efficiency. It saves 20% to 30% of time compared to when we used to send files one by one to a collected Gmail.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is around market value. It is neither too high nor too low, but balanced.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of connectors, we are currently using the Salesforce one. I also tried using Slack, but I encountered some issues with it. However, it worked out fine in the end. The integrations are good. I explored the various integrations available, and there are plenty of them. However, we use only a few of them.
I would definitely recommend GoAnywhere MFT to other users because what it provides is perfect. I have no problem with it.
Overall, I would rate GoAnywhere MFT as a nine out of ten.

Automated features have streamlined secure file transfers and improved data submission efficiency
Pros and Cons
- "Using the automated features helps me save time, and Secure Forms enable end-users to fill out and submit information through a secure platform that keeps our data protected."
- "Initially, the setup was kind of hard for me. I had to take a long time to adapt to the system."
What is our primary use case?
My major use is always file transferring. We're a big IT team, so different IT people use different parts, but my major case is always file transferring. Using the automated features helps me save time.
What is most valuable?
Using the automated features helps me save time. I have tried using the connectors that go with GoAnywhere MFT for Salesforce, SharePoint Online, Dynamics 365, and others. In most cases, I use Google Cloud storage, which is the main case. Secure Forms enable end-users to fill out and submit information through a secure platform that keeps our data protected.
What needs improvement?
I have no major dislikes generally. I just had some challenges when I was starting to use it. Sometimes I could lose files and maybe lose trace of where they had been hidden, but with time, I got used to the system, and it becomes so much easier to use.
Initially, the setup was kind of hard for me. I had to take a long time to adapt to the system.
At my end, I'm okay with everything at the moment. There are no major issues. My major challenges were getting used to it, and once that happened, I have no major challenges now. Every feature is okay currently for me.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started in November and think to get used to the system took me about two and a half months, by January.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a good solution. It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I look at scalability, and I say both are good. Stability and scalability are both good.
How are customer service and support?
I had to contact technical support once at the start when I was getting used to it. The support is good. I got feedback on time, and I was able to resolve whatever I wanted. Though I forgot what I was inquiring about, the response was good, and I resolved my issue.
If I were to put the support on a scale from one to ten, I would give them eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The setup was initially kind of hard for me. It took a long time to adapt to the system.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have not used any alternatives to GoAnywhere MFT. At my new job, I had nothing to deal with this previously, so I just got this as a new thing at my new workplace.
What other advice do I have?
I think about the agents, and they are not bad. I mention that I am using Secure Forms whereby I get the end-users to fill out and submit information through the online secure platform that helps us to keep our data secure with no traces and no leaks. Being online-based, it helps us save a lot of time.
I'm somewhat familiar with pricing. I just have a small clue about it since I'm mostly in the IT department, but what I know is the pricing is fair. Though it is always charged with add-ons, the more features you need, the more add-ons you get. It is fairly priced and not so expensive.
I would give this product a rating of eight out of ten.

User-friendly platform enhances secure data transmissions but support responsiveness needs improvement
Pros and Cons
- "What I appreciated the most about GoAnywhere MFT is that it was very user-friendly and very reasonably priced compared to other MFT applications."
What is our primary use case?
We had the enterprise version of GoAnywhere MFT. We had the business-to-business and in-house versions. We were sending and receiving files from vendors, which were banks, Nike, and all sorts of different purveyors, and then also from server to server within our own business. We were using it quite extensively. I think we were averaging maybe 500 transmissions a day.
What is most valuable?
What I appreciated the most about GoAnywhere MFT is that it was very user-friendly. It was also very reasonably priced compared to other MFT applications. If I bring up BMC's MFT option, it was three times the price and it had pretty much the same functionality.
At the time when we first got it, it was one of the first MFT applications that had secured transmissions. That was one of the things that our security department was very adamant about, getting a hold of all the ad hoc FTPs that were flying around and securing them all, finding out what's going on, where the data is, what the data is, and locking it all down. That's why we went to it.
What needs improvement?
The main area for improvement would be including better support. Support was horrible. When we needed help off-shift, at 2:00 in the morning, it was an hourly rate of $200, $175 an hour, and we waited an hour, hour and a half to get somebody on support. It was ridiculous. I'm accustomed to calling a support desk and getting immediate help. Every other application I've ever worked on was that way. GoAnywhere MFT, Fortra, their first-level support was just miserable.
Another improvement would be their pricing models. We went cheap at Foot Locker and didn't include the reporting options, and we should have because the reporting was really fantastic. They should roll it all in, make one price model, include the reporting, and that will make all customers happy.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT in my career for approximately 12 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We experienced a couple of issues with GoAnywhere MFT, but they were due to our own actions. One time we ran out of space on the server and it locked up because it couldn't write to its log files anymore. Another incident occurred when a developer had written a project using a resource that had an expired PGP key, which caused a cascading effect on authentication. That one was difficult to diagnose, but we figured it out with help from support by analyzing the logs. The stability of the application itself is excellent. We left it on an AIX machine that hadn't been rebooted in three years, which testifies to how the application ran.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We never really had to do any scaling with GoAnywhere MFT. We built it to fit our environment and planned for the future, and it was working effectively. We didn't have to add any other MFT servers. We had one MFT and one gateway, which was sufficient.
How are customer service and support?
First-level support for GoAnywhere MFT would rate about a seven for skill level. Second-level support, after waiting a day and working with the first-level person, would rate about a nine or ten. They were fantastic people to work with and remained engaged throughout the process. We were in contact for sometimes weeks afterward. They were really good at committing long-term to a solution. However, the first-level support was disappointing, especially considering the hourly rate of $175 for someone not fully versed in the application.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used homegrown ad hoc solutions, such as the built-in FTP that was part of z/OS from IBM, and FTP options for Linux and AIX. GoAnywhere MFT was the first enterprise-wide MFT solution that we brought in-house. We did evaluate BMC's MFT option, but it was essentially the same functionality at twice the price.
How was the initial setup?
The installation and upgrading process was not easy. Having someone from GoAnywhere MFT assist us might have improved the process.
What about the implementation team?
When I retired, I had everything in place and turned it over to a contractor from Fortra who was supposedly an expert in GoAnywhere MFT, but they still haven't completed the implementation.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We considered BMC's MFT option, which was three times the price with pretty much the same functionality. Since we used Control-M for our enterprise scheduling application, we considered using the MFT option but ultimately canceled that idea due to the cost differential.
What other advice do I have?
One of the reasons I retired was because of GoAnywhere MFT. The software itself was fine. Nearly every day, I was chasing down certificate owners and determining who was responsible for them. Nine times out of ten, they were no longer with the company, and the remaining staff didn't know anything about it or what to do. I spent approximately 90% of my time chasing down certificates and getting them updated. If the certificates could be removed, I would give it a nine. GoAnywhere MFT didn't provide any sort of guidance on certificate management. They simply provided what needed to be done and left the implementation to us, which was a significant oversight on their part as certificate management became a nightmare.
The overall rating for GoAnywhere MFT would be a seven, primarily due to the never-ending nightmare of certificates.

Centralized automation has reduced manual file transfers and improves secure data workflows
Pros and Cons
- "Overall, GoAnywhere MFT has been a reliable and efficient platform for securing file transfer automation, especially in environments where visibility, compliance, and workflow reliability are important."
- "To improve GoAnywhere MFT, the UI could be more modern and some advanced workflow configurations and troubleshooting steps could be made easier for administrators."
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for GoAnywhere MFT is secure file transfers, workflow automation, and scheduled data exchanges between internal systems and external vendors.
A specific example of how I use GoAnywhere MFT for secure file transfers and automations between our internal systems and external vendors is that we automatically transfer encrypted financial and reporting files between our internal servers and external partners on scheduling workflows with alerts for failed or delayed transfers.
What stands out about my main use case with GoAnywhere MFT is how much manual effort it removes by centralizing transfers, scheduling, encryption, and monitoring in a single platform.
What is most valuable?
The best features GoAnywhere MFT offers for me are workflow automation, secure file transfer protocols, centralized monitoring, detailed audit logging, and the ability to automate complex multi-step file transfer processes without relying on custom scripts.
The centralized monitoring and audit logging features help me significantly because we can track all of our file transfers, failures, and user activities from one dashboard, which makes troubleshooting and compliance reporting much easier.
The automation builder is also valuable because it reduces the need for custom scripting and makes recurring transfer workflows much easier to manage.
GoAnywhere MFT has positively impacted my organization by improving transfer reliability, reducing manual file handling, and helping standardize secure data exchange processes across different teams and external partners.
What needs improvement?
To improve GoAnywhere MFT, the UI could be more modern and some advanced workflow configurations and troubleshooting steps could be made easier for administrators.
Better API integrations and more detailed troubleshooting documentation would definitely help, especially when integrating with newer cloud platforms and third-party systems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for about three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
GoAnywhere MFT is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
GoAnywhere MFT scales very well for enterprise environments, especially when handling high volumes of automated file transfer across hybrid and multi-system environments. The clustering and load balancing capabilities help significantly as transfer volumes grow. Although large deployments may still require some performance tuning and infrastructure planning.
Scalability is good overall, but performance tuning and monitoring could be streamlined more effectively in very large environments with high transfer volumes.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support is excellent and very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously relied on custom scripts and basic FTP/SFTP tools, but we switched to GoAnywhere MFT for better automation, centralized management, auditing, and more secure file transfer workflows.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing for GoAnywhere MFT shows that the pricing and licensing are definitely more enterprise-oriented, but the automation, security features, and centralized management justify the cost in environments with significant file transfer activity. Initial setup took some planning, but once deployed it is stable and manageable.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment mainly through the automation that reduces manual interventions. Tasks that previously required constant monitoring are now mostly unattended, which saves several hours each week for operations teams. We have also seen fewer transfer-related issues because everything is centralized and easy to track.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing GoAnywhere MFT, we evaluated a few other MFT solutions including Progress MOVEit, Globalscape EFT, IBM Sterling, and Axway before selecting GoAnywhere MFT.
What other advice do I have?
The advice I would give to others looking into GoAnywhere MFT is to take time to properly design your workflow, security policies, and integration early on because GoAnywhere MFT delivers the most value when automation and monitoring are well-planned from the start.
Overall, GoAnywhere MFT has been a reliable and efficient platform for securing file transfer automation, especially in environments where visibility, compliance, and workflow reliability are important. I would rate this product a nine out of ten.
