What other advice do I have?

My company is a reseller for Fortinet.

I primarily work with Fortinet FortiMail and Fortinet FortiGate, but with FortiADC, not so much.

My customers use Fortinet FortiMail, but my company also uses it as a Fortinet partner.

I mainly deal with sales and scoping for Fortinet FortiMail and other Fortinet products.

My rating for the solution is a ten out of ten.

Easy to use, has good reporting, and the number of false positives is minimal
Pros and Cons
  • "The number of false positives is minimal."
  • "I don't know if it is possible, but I would like to see Artificial Intelligence and machine learning introduced."

What is our primary use case?

We are system integrators and we deploy it on our customer's sites for email security.

What is most valuable?

This solution has many good features. The number of false positives is minimal.

It is easy to use and integrates well with FortiSandbox.

It's very contextual, and the reporting is good.

What needs improvement?

There have been many improvements with the migration from 6.0.

I don't know if it is possible, but I would like to see Artificial Intelligence and machine learning introduced. It would allow for more detailed threat identification.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using FortiMail for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very stable product and all of our customers are happy that we use it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

We have 10 customers who have purchased it and we have two operators who work with the accounts.

How are customer service and technical support?

From a technical aspect, we have no issues as we have two or three team members who are certified in this product.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we have not used any other products. We have heard of Cisco but have not worked with this product.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward, not at all complex. It was very easy.

It is very intuitive and easy to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team deploys and maintains it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Approximately five years ago the price was low. Now the price is a bit on the high side.

I understand it is because the product comes with a vendor license. One vendor can do many things.

The price is acceptable for the support license it includes.

What other advice do I have?

I would encourage everyone to use this product. Many organizations that are concerned about security especially with email, need to deploy FortiMail.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Great anti-spam and blocking capabilities with an initial easy setup
Pros and Cons
  • "It can block a lot of fake emails."
  • "It can be easier to configure or connect to the cloud to report on the attachments."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily just use the product as an email gateway for our email server.

How has it helped my organization?

Before I used the solution, I got a lot of spam emails.

What is most valuable?

The anti-spam and the IPS to help block items and attachments that come with the email are both quite helpful. It can block a lot of fake emails.

The initial setup is easy.

I have found the product to be stable.

The solution can scale.

What needs improvement?

So far I don't need any improvements right now. I'm quite happy with the product as-is.

At some point, FortiMail and Fortigate should merge together in one box. If they did that, it would be really helpful for the user.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is, overall, a stable solution. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable and the performance is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Currently, I'm using it for around 600 to 700 email users. It still performs quite well for me. There is no delay to speak of.

How are customer service and support?

I've never used technical support and have never reached out to them in the past.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also familiar with Cisco. This product is easier to set up than Cisco.

How was the initial setup?

We found the initial setup process to be very simple. It's not difficult.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very reasonable. It's not overly expensive. We pay a yearly licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I compared quite a few options with Cisco. In the end, this was the cost-effective option and the features are excellent.

What other advice do I have?

We're just customers and end-users.

The version we are using is the newest one, as I already updated the OS and I just bought it last year.

For those considering the solution, they better have a very clear idea about how they will place the FortiMail in their network. For example, either as the email server itself or as the email gateway. If you decided correctly in the first place, then you can configure it easily.

FortiMail has a low cost and high support. Support is very helpful, however, so far, I don't need to use them at all. At the very least, I have someone that I can call and ask questions in Thai. This is not the case, for example, with Cisco.

I'd rate the solution an eight out of ten. I'll rate it higher when it can be easier to configure or connect to the cloud to report on the attachments.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Effective antispam feature, simple installation, helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "Fortinet FortiMail's most valuable features are antispam, antivirus, database, and data loss prevention (DLP)."
  • "Fortinet FortiMail could improve general user management. There are no password policies for users."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Fortinet FortiMail for safe emailing. We use two versions of the solution 200E and 1000D.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiMail's most valuable features are antispam, antivirus, database, and data loss prevention (DLP).

What needs improvement?

Fortinet FortiMail could improve general user management. There are no password policies for users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortinet FortiMail for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability and performance of the solution have been great. We have not had any problems since we have been using it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution depends on the version you have. If you have the 200E it has a maximum of 150 users and the 1000D maximum is 1000. These versions are for small to medium-sized companies.

In the 200E version of Fortinet FortiMail we have approximately 70 users and in the 1000D version have approximately 600 users.

How are customer service and support?

We had an issue with the solution and the support was very helpful. The technical team is knowledgeable and they have given us remote support that has been very good in helping us resolve issues.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is straightforward and it took approximately one hour.

What about the implementation team?

I did the implementation myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The fees for Fortinet FortiMail can be complicated. However, overall the pricing is fair.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Palo Alto and their technology is better than Fortinet. However, for email, Fortinet FortiMail is the best.

What other advice do I have?

If someone is looking for an on-premise private email server, I would recommend FortiMail. If they have no concerns over privacy then there are cloud solutions available.

I rate Fortinet FortiMail an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Continuously updated, good technical support, and good value for the money
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of this solution is the spam filter."
  • "The only drawback to this solution is that the firmware is frequently updated, and each update results in downtime."

What is our primary use case?

We have the FortiMail appliance, and it is installed on-premises. It provides email filtering for our Exchange 2013 server.

How has it helped my organization?

These days, the threats by email are very high, and this solution provides our security. I would say that eighty percent of threats are known, and there is another twenty percent that is new. New threats are added to the database as they are discovered.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is the spam filter.

What needs improvement?

The only drawback to this solution is that the firmware is frequently updated, and each update results in downtime. Because of this, sometimes we skip the firmware updates so that we don't have to work outside of office hours.

The reporting capability could be improved.

It would be helpful to have a tracking feature to help us with investigating where a particular email came from.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for almost five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We don't have a big organization, but it has been flexible enough for us.

We have approximately one hundred email addresses being filtered. We have perhaps seventy-five people, but some have multiple email accounts, and there are additional mailboxes for the business, as well.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support for this solution is very good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for this solution is straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We update the firmware on the appliance ourselves, and the latest update was just last week.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is a good solution and value for the money.

What other advice do I have?

This is a dynamic product that is continuously being improved.

As we are moving to Office 365, we may be moving away from this solution. We may look for a cloud-based solution.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

We have seen ROI with this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing model for this solution is better because it is based on the box and not the number of users.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was already familiar with many solutions, so we did not evaluate other options before choosing this one.

What other advice do I have?

This solution contains all of the features that we need.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
