We previously used Symantec Backup Exec, it was cumbersome, didn’t handle our virtual machines, and kept us on tape backups.

What is most valuable?

The ability to manage backups from any machine from one location.

How has it helped my organization?

We’ve taken the human out of the equation when it comes to our backups. This means backups run when they should, like they should.

What needs improvement?

None since the release of endpoint backup management.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using it for over two years.

We implemented Endpoint Backup on our Exchange server (and the rest of our physical servers--the last holdouts) a few weeks ago and LOVE it. It's so nice to be rid of the tape backups and take us humans out of the equation in regards to our data backup and replication (onsite and offsite backups).

Leader in the industry, a lot of value for the money
Pros and Cons
  • "The technical support is excellent. It's one of the best I've met so far."
  • "The product could be improved if they wrote more PowerShell scripts for controlling Veeam."

What is our primary use case?

Our use case is for doing backup for virtual machines, only for VMware virtual machines.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the backup, replication application, and the virtual lab.

    What needs improvement?

There are some PowerShell scripts for Veeam, but the product could be improved if they wrote more PowerShell scripts for controlling Veeam.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable, compared to other products. It's very stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam is very scalable; it's suitable for all sizes of companies.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is excellent. It's one of the best I've met so far.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple. Deployment takes one day.

    What about the implementation team?

I did the setup myself. We are a system integrator company and we do implementation of Veeam for customers. We have a great experience with Veeam, so it was not a problem for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is very straightforward. Pricing is not the cheapest, but you get a lot of value for your money.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The main difference when comparing this solution to competitors is that Veeam is a company which has a single product, Veeam Backup Replication. Other companies have many products and Veeam can focus on a single product; this is their main advantage. They are pioneers in their domain. They are the leaders.

What other advice do I have?

If you buy Veeam, you have to buy maintenance; if you don't buy maintenance, you cannot do updates, but it's recommended to have maintenance.

If you want to have a small and cheap system, that is not Veeam; but if you want performance, reliability, support, then this solution is best for that.

If you are looking into implementing Veeam Backup, you have to first do anassessment, then make a good plan, and do a pilot to check all the features and to compare the features with your expectations.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

Effective CDP, reliable, and good technical support
    Pros and Cons
    • "I have found the most valuable feature to be the new CDP features. It is very popular for my customer's needs."
    • "There is some complexity we have experienced when using the solution that should be simplified."

What is our primary use case?

I am using the solution in a virtual environment for backup and replication.

    What is most valuable?

I have found the most valuable feature to be the new CDP features. It is very popular for my customer's needs.

    Additionally, the solution is user-friendly.

    What needs improvement?

There is some complexity we have experienced when using the solution that should be simplified.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have used the technical support and they are very good. We receive a resolution at a high priority.

    How was the initial setup?

    The installation was easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Veeam Backup and Replication is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

Flexible on-premises and cloud solution but it could use more automation
    Pros and Cons
    • "In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud."
    • "In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replication. Overall, they need more automation."

What is our primary use case?

We implemented Veeam Backup & Replication on-prem and also on the cloud - we have both infrastructures. We use it internally to backup our internal servers and we have a cloud infrastructure where we use it to backup our customers' virtual machines for disaster solutions. We use it for disaster replication.

    What is most valuable?

In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud.

    What needs improvement?

In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replications. Overall, they need more automation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam Backup & Replication is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam Backup & Replication is scalable.

I don't know our user count, but we have about 8,000 virtual machines.

We recently added this product to the environment so we will continue to use it.

How are customer service and technical support?

The Veeam technical support is not very good. We can solve problems one by one because there are some sales teams and technical teams in Turkey. We can contact them and solve the problems with them. But it must be faster and they must have more technical knowledge.

    How was the initial setup?

Veeam is very easy to install. We can install it and begin use in one hour.

    What about the implementation team?

We implemented it ourselves with our three person backup team made up of three admins.

What other advice do I have?

I would mostly recommend this product because it's easy to use and it is easy to install. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication a seven.

    User-friendly and easy to integrate
    Pros and Cons
    • "I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam."
    • "I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups or snapshots. That's a nice functionality that Veeam doesn't have."

    What is most valuable?

Veeam Backup does not interfere with your environment. It's got those facilities, which are very good.

Acronis has been a long time player on the images and in block-based backups. I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam.

    What needs improvement?

I like the Acronis backup solutions on the block-based part of backups or snapshots. That's a nice functionality that Veeam doesn't have.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Veeam Backup Replication for four years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is very good. The only problem that might occur with Veeam is if people do not size it correctly, they can get performance issues. If you don't do the right thing, you always have those types of problems anyway.

Backing up to the cloud, AWS or Azure is fantastic. It's really good. It also backs up applications as well like Oracle, SAP, and so forth. Veeam is a good backup solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is excellent. If you're on the right support level, they provide a solution immediately. They tell the customer exactly what is wrong. Compared to Micro Focus Data Protector, they've got good engineers to help you, but I think Veeam is much quicker and more helpful in resolving a problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

If I had to choose visualization between Micro Focus Data Protector and Veeam, I would choose Veeam. It's a much better product. The functionalities for the end-user are much easier. It is a good product for an enterprise, but it's not that user-friendly like Veeam is. The functionalities that Veeam offers are fantastic. It's a very good product.

In terms of virtualization, I would recommend Veeam over Data Protector. Definitely. Even for hybrid, I would still recommend Veeam. Although, the Data Protector hybrid environment is also not bad. But the problem is the complexity.

Micro Focus is developing the virtualization side. You can't compare it with Veeam. The storage and backing up the environment are much easier on Veeam than Data Protector. Veeam is much more ahead at the moment.

Data Protector is not user-friendly. It's more complex. You need to know the product very well to be able to do backups or restores.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is reasonable compared to NetBackup, Backup Exec, Dell, Micro Focus, or Acronis, then Veeam is lower in price.

Micro Focus's pricing is not too bad either because they changed the licensing model.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.

In the next release, I would like for them to have block-based backups as well. But I don't know if they will do that because they've got all the functionalities to restore a system and it's working. If they would put it in, that would be fantastic, it will maybe even improve the performance when backing up.

I would rate Acronis an eight out of ten. They're missing a lot and are still not very user-friendly.

Integrates Between Server and Replication Station
    Pros and Cons
    • "We get a lot of features with Veeam and we are happy to use this solution. After shutdown, the servers here automatically turn off and Veeam is keeping up all this. It's tension free work."
    • "We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case with Veeam Backup & Replication is as the intermediate agent. Veeam integrates devices between the main server and the replication station.

We set this resolution between the main server and our replication machine. It is getting images from VMware. We serve up with Veeam and it responds to the daily load.

With Veeam Backup & Replication, replicated servers will be picked up again from the new location station machine. Now our table updates are available automatically.

We get a lot of features with Veeam and we are happy to use this solution. After shutdown, the servers here automatically turn off and Veeam is keeping up all this. It's tension free work.

How has it helped my organization?

Veeam Backup & Replication assists us to improve to good infrastructure.

    1. Veeam system makes a server image that is relative to our network requirements.
    2. We get strong back-up capability.
    3. We are announcing to users that our server will not shut down for a single second.
    4. Failover with Veeam is okay.
    5. We are trying to make NES Network Extronance and Network Express copy to replication server using Veeam.
    6. Using distribution file systems, we take backups from users and clients.
    7. We use copies struck to one server by Veeam and make it replication-to-replication.
    8. We use Veeam for replication-to-replication virtual machines.

With Veeam Backup & Replication, data is secure and strongly stored to replication machines. If we consider the IT systems and infrastructure, then Veeam is making us environmentally friendly.

We are not taking more human resources to take manual back-up systems. With Veeam, we are not taking manual copies to offline or online backup. This is not necessary.

Also, we are reducing the maintenance cost for hardware because of not deploying more than required for our infrastructure.

Veeam helps us on data confidentiality using a simple file transfer. The set of file systems in our data is open, but when we use Veeam, we just make an image, a compact file. Nobody can open it and no one can keep it.

The ransomware and other exploits cannot attack this file. Veeam optimizes our cost for recovering files and data. In this way, Veeam Backup & Replication is a help to our company.

    What is most valuable?

We evaluated different options and we picked the most significant one, Veeam. The main features about the Veeam Backup & Replication suite I like are:

    • If a Veeam image is copied to a replication machine, then Veeam automatically checks to see if ransomware attacked or not.
    • Veeam will automatically check if a file is corrupt or not. If a file is corrupt, then it will not make a backup copy to the replication server. That means the corrupt file is not copied to replication.
    • We have confidence that our replication image is good and not corrupted as VM machines.

These are the significant features and there are a lot of features with Veeam. You need to first check out the Veeam website.

      What needs improvement?

As far as additional features, in the comparative market, a lot of solutions are now from VMware. Cisco has its own solution for replicating back-ups and administration.

We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide.

For how long have I used the solution?

      One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Personally, my experience with the stability of Veeam Backup & Replicate is very good. I tested and I uploaded it in virtualization in my private cloud, i.e. private infrastructure.

If we would like to use the networking system or any of the hardware-based VM systems, then it will likely be a larger investment. If you have only a little to invest in the application-based VM system, then it is okay. Veeam is a cost-effective solution

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability with Veeam Backup & Replicate is very good. On our team:

      • They try to get the support of reference material for the software base.
      • They already made a package using Veeam on a single machine license.
      • If you having 50 VM machines, virtual machines, then you can take 10 packages.
      • This requires a 1 to 10 heavy package license. Then you can increase your VMs repeatedly.
      • If you would like to engage your infrastructure more than 50, more than 100, more than 1000, then you can enterprise license Veeam and have the machines in your infrastructure

My only concern about Veeam Backup & Replicate is that it could be more open.

How are customer service and technical support?

In previous times, we were getting technical support from the Veeam team directly from their Los Angeles office and Namibia. They had given us some numbers and contacts. They were giving us support and they introducing the new features or new deployments.

What I have seen with experience is that technical support is quite good. I am pleased with Veeam customer support operations. They are straightforward.

I got downloaded information from online and I tried that. Personally, then I got 90% accuracy for the administration that I tried. I had about a 90% success rate with online info-services.

After that, I spoke directly with Veeam customer support on a call to Los Angeles. They gave the support and it was very easy.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before using Veeam Backup & Replication, we had not deployed any backup systems in the company.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Actually, the most important criteria for us when considering a solution is service. When we are taking a decision regarding the hardware or software or any applications, then first we need to tell where and what the services they are giving us. Then we evaluate the service level element.

The main important criteria when selecting a vendor are then what are the features and services available in the devices or applications. This should be our main selection path to select any hardware devices or applications.

Because of our world, in the market, we can get low prices on devices or we could then see what is available. What I actually need is what I need to deploy, the features I need to be deploying in my architecture. That needs to be considered first in systems administration because the price can vary.

In my personal experience, these values and features should be the first standard for selecting a device or application.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We started thinking of the new systems. We surveyed from IT Central Station and several other portals that are available online. We got the reports and we did the contact with the vendors.

What other advice do I have?

For the Veeam Backup & Replication software, we care about the system dependency on software-based, not the hardware-based licenses. For actualization concepts and hyper-connection concepts, businesses can easily use Veeam replication and instances.

I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a ten out of ten. The reason, first of all, is because Veeam provides what I need for my devices, my services, and service providers.

With Veeam Backup & Replicate, I'm getting the full service of what I need.

        1. Seems that VEEAM is doing dedupe and compression PER JOB and NOT globally.
        2. At TSM there feature of replicate node + protect stg, that give you the option to replicate the backup to a remote site and is NOT necessary for all backups, so you can choose to keep fewer copies at the remote site.
        3. This gives you an option to do an immediate restore in case of the main site problem.

It's reliable and performs complete backups effortlessly. However, it could use a storage application.
        Pros and Cons
        • "It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues."
        • "I would like to see a storage application in the next version of the product."

How has it helped my organization?

It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues. It is always good when performing complete backups. It always restores, when needed.

        What needs improvement?

I would like to see a storage application in the next version of the product.

For how long have I used the solution?

        One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability depends upon your configuration.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

        I don't have a problem with Veeam's scalability.

How is customer service and technical support?

As long as you have enough storage and CPU, they know how to resolve it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is slightly higher than its competitors.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam is what it is supposed to be.

Running the virtual machine from within the backup gives us the chance to test the machine before restoring it.

        What is most valuable?

Running the virtual machine from within the backup gives us the chance to test the machine before restoring it.

How has it helped my organization?

In the past, we were using another backup product. We used it to restore the machine multiple times, until we reached the required version of the machines. This process takes a very long time to finish.

        What needs improvement?

I am looking for the ability to:

        • Backup physical machines
        • Backup exchange mailboxes and retrieve a message in a mailbox
        • Backup SQL servers and retrieve a record in a table
        • Backup the Active Directory and retrieve a single object

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Veeam for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not encountered any issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not had any issues with scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support staff team is perfect. I hope they keep that level of perfection.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The features in Veeam are much better than in the other products.

        How was the initial setup?

The setup was straightforward and the pre-sales engineer helped us a lot to set up the product according to best practices.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

According to the features, I believe it has a reasonable price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

        We evaluated Veeam ONE.

What other advice do I have?

I am already telling others that I use this solution when I meet them in conferences and meetings.
