Easy to install and support
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is easy to install and very stable."
  • "The tech support could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for backing up software from the computer to the server to VMware.

What is most valuable?

I am not in the best position to discuss the solution's most valuable features, as I am not the one who is really using it. This is more a question for the high level-three technicians who are doing so.

I know that the solution does not have any issues and that they love it. It is easy to install and very stable. We are really not inconvenienced by it.

What needs improvement?

The tech support could be better. I rate it as a six out of ten. Though this is not frequent, when we have had need to resort to it, we found it to not be good.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

The initial setup is straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The solution is easy to support once it has been set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not familiar with the licensing fees.

What other advice do I have?

I do not have any particular advice to impart to others looking to implement the solution.

I rate Veeam Backup & Replication as a nine-point-five out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam Backup Replication for small businesses with on average 100 virtual machines.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable features I have found to be Instant Recovery, quick restore and rollback, and asynchronous copy. It is a complete solution for our needs.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup Replication for approximately eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam Backup Replication is scalable. We adapt with many hardware and storage vendors, with no problems at all.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is responsive and every time I have contacted them I received a quick and definitive solution to many problems.

    What about the implementation team?

We to the implementation of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is the worst part of Veeam Backup Replication because for the more complex situations and it's quite difficult and complex. In particular, when mixing different requirements the licensing model is complex. For example, mixing a virtual machine backup and a file server backup in the same installation can be somewhat difficult and is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.

Good portability, good scalability, and easy to set up
    Pros and Cons
    • "Its portability and being able to back up between different platforms are the most valuable features."
    • "There is always some room for improvement, especially with some of the different technologies such as DB2. Commvault has a DB2 agent, but Veeam still doesn't have it. We have to use the universal one for it."

    What is most valuable?

Its portability and being able to back up between different platforms are the most valuable features.

    What needs improvement?

There is always some room for improvement, especially with some of the different technologies such as DB2. Commvault has a DB2 agent, but Veeam still doesn't have it. We have to use the universal one for it.

Although this is not really something that comes too much from the Veeam side, there could be more integration with the storage for snapshots. I know that some products that we use would need it, but I think that also comes more from the storage suppliers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for about 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very good at scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Their support was very good when I needed support back in South Africa.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We currently are on Commvault, and we're also on Veeam, but we are busy putting forward a design to migrate from Commvault to Veeam for our company.

    How was the initial setup?

    Its initial setup is easy.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a nine out of 10.

An easy initial setup with technical support and the ability to handle multiple jobs
    Pros and Cons
    • "The initial setup is very easy."
    • "The stability could be better, specifically in the cloud."

    What is most valuable?

The VMR is the solution's most valuable aspect.

There is a great catchup backup quality to the solution.

We can have multiple jobs going so long as we have the proper licensing in effect. It's quite helpful.

The initial setup is very easy.

Technical support has been very good. They're helpful.

    What needs improvement?

While we used the cloud and on-premises deployment models, on the cloud we found we had some issues and we moved to everything on-premises to counteract that.

The solution needs to fix its incremental sizing. Currently, we are facing an issue with the incremental backup. For example, with a normal user laptop, it is taking a huge amount of incremental backup on a daily basis - more than two, three DBS it is taking place on a daily basis. Much improvement is needed. Though the compression rate is good, what exactly they are backing up on daily basis for such a great extent is unresolved. We want to understand why this is happening.

The stability could be better, specifically in the cloud. We had bad experiences with the cloud. We were using Azure and we found some security issues in terms of ransomware. We relied on the cloud backup, however, the data in the cloud ended up also getting corrupted due to the ransomware. Data security is a huge concern on the cloud, in our experience.

The scalability could be more effective.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about two years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is okay, however, it isn't as stable as we would like it to be. There could be some improvement.

We had issues with ransomware getting into the cloud backup and causing troubles for us. It's not as secure on the cloud as it needs to be.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability could be better. It isn't quite where we need it just yet.

We currently have 20 people using the solution. They are backing up the server time and users.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've been satisfied with the level of support we get from technical support. They are helpful and responsive. They've been good overall.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's very easy and very straightforward. A company should have no trouble with the process of deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is pretty good. If you have it set up correctly, it allows the solution to take on multiple jobs.

What other advice do I have?

We have experience in both on-premises and cloud deployment models.

I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten. While the on-premises deployment seems to be working well for us, the cloud has given us problems.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A reliable backup solution with a straightforward interface
    Pros and Cons
    • "I think the interface is straightforward"
    • "Technical support can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam to backup all the virtual machines and all the company data.

How has it helped my organization?

It's a backup solution. The only way it has improved the organization is by giving us a modern and robust backup solution. The previous solution wasn't complex, lacked features, and was abandoned.

    What is most valuable?

I think the interface is straightforward. It's not complex. The other thing I like is that it usually works very well.

    What needs improvement?

Technical support can be improved. Cloud backup could also be better. It would be better if there were an option to back up and then manually attach to storage. It's possible on-premises, but this isn't possible on the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Veeam Backup & Replication for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I consider it to be very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It depends on the license. If we have more laws, more data to back up, then it's possible to do it. It's very scalable. It's only an issue of licenses and if it's necessary to increase the bandwidth and if it's necessary to increase the number of proxy servers. It's very scalable, and the product has no limits.

How are customer service and technical support?

We had issues with the technical support. We had a very good response for some incidents and a very bad one for other incidents. It isn't homogeneous. It's a bit heterogeneous. It has a lot to do with the support engineers that deal with your case.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did look at other options. The other solutions I was looking at weren't good enough.

    How was the initial setup?

The on-premises installation was very simple, but the on cloud installation has been more complex. It took us about one week for on-premises and three weeks for cloud deployment.

    What about the implementation team?

We used a reseller to implement the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's the market price. It isn't expensive, nor is it cheap.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise potential users to consider this solution and analyze it. See if this could be a good solution for their use case. Even though there's room for improvement, I believe it's a good solution.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good price to performance ratio, stable, and simple to use
    Pros and Cons
    • "What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio."
    • "It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized."

What is our primary use case?

We are resellers of Veeam with an official partnership and a contract for reselling the product.

    What is most valuable?

What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio.

    What needs improvement?

It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized. If you still have non-virtualized environments, then it's not treatable for customers who have some products we can not virtualize. For example, another service, or if you have Oracle or other databases, then it's not treatable for those environments.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup Replication from the point that Veeam was available.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution. We have not had any complaints from our clients.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    It's scalable with no issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

If we have any issues, our technician teams contact the manufacture if they need help.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup and deployment are handled by our technician. I have never done it myself, but from my understanding, it's easy.

We have a team in-house for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    The price is quite fair.

People always want something cheaper but then it doesn't work as well.

What other advice do I have?

Most of the time, we recommend Veeam because it's good enough. But in some environments, we don't see any reason for it and we recommend other solutions.

Know your environment before choosing Veeam to ensure that it is suitable.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

Good support, stable, and it can restore VMs directly into a test environment
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment."
    • "Some of the best practice documentation could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam for the backup and recovery of our production environment.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment.

    What needs improvement?

Some of the best practice documentation could be improved.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is perfect and we have not had any problems with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

With respect to how much we use this solution, we don't expect to increase it. Rather, we're just going to keep our usage the same that we have.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support is pretty good and I haven't had any issues with it.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.

    What about the implementation team?

We had an integrator do most of the implementation.

I am the only one in the organization who uses the software.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, we are happy with this software and have not found any limitations to it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use, stable, and good price, but its integration with third-party solutions can be better
    Pros and Cons
    • "I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it."
    • "It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines."

What is our primary use case?

We develop our own replication solutions for the IBM i platform. Our product is called Maxava. We have 500 customers using that for disaster recovery, data replication. We use Veeam in-house for our Windows replication.

    What is most valuable?

I am not a direct user of this product, but my technical guys tell me that they like the product, and it is easy to use. We don't have any issues with it.

    What needs improvement?

It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable. I am not aware of any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We're just using it in-house. We have maybe 20 to 23 users that we support on it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Our guys have probably talked to support from time to time, but I haven't seen any issues raised about it or anything like that. So, I presume it's all pretty good.

    How was the initial setup?

It was pretty easy and straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    Its pricing is really good.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. From my point of view, I haven't had any issues with it.

I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication a seven out of ten.
