I work for an IT solution distributor company, and Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] is one of our products. We handle implementation and support cases for Trend Micro Email Security [EOL]. In support case scenarios, we receive various cases. For example, we handle alerts such as DLP violations. In a recent case, a customer needed verification on what the violated content in a document was. We also handle spam-related issues and investigate those cases.

Email protection has reduced spam incidents and protects non-technical users from phishing
Pros and Cons
- "Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] is a money-saving solution, protecting the company data and the company employees, so I think it is saving money."
- "For improvement, the report part needs much improvement. It is a bit complex for some users."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] is a really good product, so we do not often encounter product issues. Most of the support cases I receive are when customers need re-verification on their alerts. Overall, it is an easy-to-use and very comprehensive solution.
In my experience, we have implemented this solution in many government sector organizations. In that scenario, the spam filter is a very good feature in email security because there are many non-technical users who are not aware about security and spam. We need to protect those users from spam, so the spam gateway is a really good feature in Trend Micro Email Security [EOL].
At the government sector company I mentioned, users are daily receiving spam mails. Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] is filtering those spams and protecting those users. The product is protecting their users from spam and everything else. It is a really good product to help users from giving their valuable information to spam emails.
We noticed that there are fewer incidents and fewer spam incidents in these organizations after we implemented the email security solution. With Trend Micro Vision One, it is providing almost everything that a customer needs.
What needs improvement?
For improvement, the report part needs much improvement. It is a bit complex for some users. We have to provide our support for analyzing their data and creating their policies. If it gets a bit less complicated, I think it will be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] for two years.

Email security has reduced phishing risks and provides continuous protection for critical messages
Pros and Cons
- "I have seen a huge decrease in phishing emails and spam being received by end users, with about 80% of observed spam and phishing emails being reduced."
What is our primary use case?
I use Trend Micro Email Security mainly for phishing email and spam prevention. I have observed in my customers' environments that they receive a lot of spam emails. Trend Micro Email Security is deployed in-line with incoming SMTP traffic to prevent these spam emails from entering the network.
In addition to spam prevention, I also use it to block phishing emails and threat actors that come through Trend Micro Email Security.
What is most valuable?

The email continuity feature provides email retention for up to 10 days, which has been valuable in cases where my on-premises email security cluster goes out of service, ensuring that incoming emails are not lost. Trend Micro Email Security also provides DLP capabilities for outbound emails, allowing me to inspect whether users are sending sensitive information through emails, knowingly or unknowingly.
I have seen a huge decrease in phishing emails and spam being received by end users, with about 80% of observed spam and phishing emails being reduced. Additionally, time has been saved by preventing unnecessary investigations into threats received through emails.

CEO at Haniya Technologies
Offers comprehensive security, easy integration, and good support
Pros and Cons
- "The product is quite strong, and that is one reason most clients are replacing their existing email security solutions with it."
- "Trend Micro is better than any of its competitors."
- "There is room for improvement in mobile device management. The company also needs to work on pricing because it is quite costly compared to other products."
- "The company also needs to work on pricing because it is quite costly compared to other products."
How has it helped my organization?
It integrated easily. About 99% of the time, we do not face any challenges in integrating any product of Trend Micro with the existing network. It is usually compatible with all kinds of networks.
They have recently added AI to all Trend Micro products. It makes life a little bit easier by catching viruses, providing solutions, and helping out whenever you are stuck somewhere. It is one of the very good features they have right now. For example, one of our clients experienced a network attack and became confused about resolving the issues. The AI was helpful by suggesting initial steps to solve the problem.
What is most valuable?
They have both on-premises and cloud-based options available. Compared to other products, it is quite strong quality-wise. The product is quite strong, and that is one reason most clients are replacing their existing email security solutions with it.
Sandbox is an added feature to enhance your network security. You can include it in the solution or buy it separately.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in mobile device management. The company also needs to work on pricing because it is quite costly compared to other products. Many small and medium-sized businesses prefer cost-effective solutions over full-fledged security solutions. These are the two areas where they need to improve a bit.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been introduced to Trend Micro for a long time. Actively, I have been working with Trend Micro for about one and a half to two years.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is available directly from Trend Micro as well as from distributors and resellers. Clients are generally very satisfied with the various types of support available. They can sign up for an SLA with a distributor, partner, or directly with Trend Micro.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used to deal with Kaspersky, and I used to deal with Symantec. Symantec has an advantage of mobile device management over Trend Micro, but overall, if you look at the whole product and its dashboards, I would recommend Trend Micro.
The Pakistan market used to be dominated by Kaspersky, but Trend Micro has become a strong competitor. Their solutions are stronger compared to Kaspersky, so I am recommending Trend Micro to most of my clients.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is quite simple.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is expensive. The cost is per box, and it depends on how big your environment is. Prices range from 11 to 12 dollars for licenses and can fluctuate up and down, but for environments with 4,000 to 5,000 users, it can be between 6 to 8 dollars. I would recommend it for big companies.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend it. Trend Micro is better than any of its competitors.
I would rate it a nine out of ten because there is always room for improvement.

Email protection has reduced external spam and malware and improves user reporting workflows
Pros and Cons
- "Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] has positively impacted my organization as the digital user experience is good."
- "I have considered how Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] can be improved. The integration within Trend Micro environment is great, but if I want to integrate Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] with a third-party endpoint security solution, it is more challenging; if I am using Trend Micro production endpoint protection along with other Trend Micro-related solutions such as Trend Micro XDR, it works much better, but integrating with a third-party endpoint protection tool such as Microsoft Defender is different."
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] at Sipchem is primarily to protect the emails received from external users. I have used Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] mostly for external emails received, as we do not have any use cases for internally sent emails; sometimes we use it for blocking attachments from emails internally sent.
What is most valuable?
In my opinion, the best feature Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] offers is its good detection rate. When I mention the detection rate, I am referring to the amount of spam and malware it detects.
I would add that the user reporting is great with Trend Micro Email Security [EOL], and we do not have any problems with user reporting; it is easier to receive the blocked emails from the users and to review and release them from the quarantine.
Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] has positively impacted my organization as the digital user experience is good. The user experience has improved, and we saw fewer incidents.
What needs improvement?
I have considered how Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] can be improved. The integration within Trend Micro environment is great, but if I want to integrate Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] with a third-party endpoint security solution, it is more challenging; if I am using Trend Micro production endpoint protection along with other Trend Micro-related solutions such as Trend Micro XDR, it works much better, but integrating with a third-party endpoint protection tool such as Microsoft Defender is different.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Trend Micro Email Security [EOL], we evaluated Barracuda, Cloud Email Security, and Mimecast.
What other advice do I have?
I would suggest Trend Micro Email Security [EOL] to others looking into using it, but if they want a better result, they need to buy the whole Trend Micro suite. I gave this review a rating of 9.

On-premises

Flag as inappropriateProvides ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) feature which utilizes machine learning algorithm
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's most valuable feature is ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which utilizes the machine learning algorithm."
- "The solution's interface, which we get from an admin perspective, sometimes gets confusing."
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable feature is ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which utilizes the machine learning algorithm. We analyze the behavior and pattern analysis and come up with a case. When events and incidents come, the solution suppresses the amount of events and alerts that come from it.
The solution has a robust system that evaluates itself for false positive alarms. We get 1,00,000 events daily, and the tool suppresses about 5,000 to 6,000 of them with its intelligent machine learning system.
The solution's detect and block feature is very good and determines where to detect and where to block. For example, the tool will detect if someone is trying to send a huge file, breaching the policy. However, if someone tries to send you a confidential file repeatedly, it will block automatically based on the machine learning patterns.
What needs improvement?
The solution's interface, which we get from an admin perspective, sometimes gets confusing. I would like it more if the flow of the feature were good. If you continuously work on the tool, you will become well-versed in the features, but new users will take some time to become familiar with it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Email Security for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution’s stability ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Trend Micro Email Security is suitable for all company sizes.
I rate the solution ten out of ten for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
Sometimes, it's very hard to get support from Trend Micro.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
Sometimes, the solution's implementation takes a lot of time, and it is not fast. The solution's deployment takes more than a few hours.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a seven out of ten.
What was our ROI?
Trend Micro Email Security is a cost-saving solution because it has many features that reduce the integration of other tools.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution's pricing totally depends on the organization's bandwidth. The solution is cheap for some and expensive for others. I would say Trend Micro Email Security is neither cheap nor expensive. The solution's pricing is very optimum, given its quality, features, and stability.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I assess whether their controls are in place and whether the tool works perfectly fine. I also assess the policies configured for phishing and spam prevention, the aspects we have incorporated in terms of advanced threat protection (ATP), the main feature of this Trend Micro Email Security, and the utilization of a preexisting machine learning algorithm.
Suppose someone continuously tries to send some data. In that case, I assess how the tool analyzes the user pattern behavior, whether it is blocking or not, and what configurations are configured in the tool's policy. These are the systems I have been working on. I am an integrator who does assessments for the tool security testing.
Trend Micro Email Security is deployed on the cloud. The solution has machine-learning capabilities, which help the tool in handling threats. I would recommend the solution to other users because it's a very useful tool that protects your organization from outside threats. While communicating outside the organization, the solution's ATP feature secures any confidential information you send.
Overall, I rate the solution ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Effectively blocks spams and introduces new antivirus programs
Pros and Cons
- "Some people can hack our system by sending emails from our domain to our domain. This is blocked completely by Trend Micro."
- "Trend Micro Email Security can improve on scam detection. It could use AI in this area."
What is our primary use case?
The main usage of Trend Micro, in general, is for email. There were a lot of attacks. We work in Saudi Arabia, and I believe Saudi Arabia is targeted. So we have a lot of hacks.
In spite of our firewall and security systems, I found that most of the attacks came through emails. So, after installing Trend Micro, I actually used Proofpoint, Trend Micro, and then Microsoft Defender. Over time, I found that Trend Micro alone is quite enough.
Now, I am satisfied with the protection that Trend Micro provides to email.
How has it helped my organization?
It's a complete solution for not only email, but for any kind of attack - for the network, for antivirus, everything.
What is most valuable?
Blocking spam is the most valuable aspect of this product for me. Some people can hack our system by sending emails from our domain to our domain. This is blocked completely by Trend Micro.
Another one is that if I give you a public email, like ABC@gmail.com, ABC is not related to the display name. So people use this tactic here in this area; they pick up the names of the chairman, for instance, from the Internet or whatever, and then create a public email. So, the display name is very different from the public email address. I found that Trend Micro can block this.
We suffered a lot from such attacks. We can look at it; it's a normal email. It's just that someone can create a fake email or a true public email but with a fake display name. None of the other antivirus programs could catch this, but we reported this many times to Trend Micro.
Then, we came up with a solution where they compared the display name to the email address. If there's a big difference, they can contain the email until you take action. Trend Micro Security detects such emails.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Email Security can improve on scam detection. It could use AI in this area. For example, there is a normal email, and it asks for contact information or to make a relationship or something like that. So it needs a feature that can read the contents of the emails or the attached files. Maybe this could be done through AI tools that can analyze if this is a kind of scam or not.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for two years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. I don't have any complaints so far. Otherwise, I would change it. I would go for another product.
I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I am satisfied with the scalability of Trend Micro Email Security.
I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten, with ten being the best.
How are customer service and support?
I am satisfied with the customer service and support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have emails from Microsoft 365, specifically CloudOne. For backup, we use a software called CodeTwo. We used the major security measures of Microsoft.
With Microsoft Defender, something was wrong with the configuration; maybe from our side or the vendor's side, it was not effective. That's why we went for Trend Micro.
How was the initial setup?
The implementation of Trend Micro into our IT security workflow was quite simple.
We are not a bank or a financial services company. We are a manufacturing company or group. So, the security measures here are really different from those of a financial services company.
Here, all we have is firewalls in each branch like this, and we have Trend Micro.
It is quite easy to setup. I would rate my experience with the initial setup an eight out of ten, with ten being easy and one being difficult. It took a couple of hours.
It is set up in the cloud environment.
What was our ROI?
There has been ROI. Security is very crucial to our business. And if you have communication with your customers or clients, especially if there is something related to invoicing or payment, it's quite critical that you make sure that whatever you see or send is correct and confidential. Because it happened before that we lost some data because of this kind of attack.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
The features of such security software are all very similar, and very close to each other. But if you would like to select one, look at the support. It is quite important. So is the local agent. With Trend Micro, I found it easy to deal with these people.
With the vendor and their support, because, for some reason, Trend Micro is famous here in Saudi Arabia.
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten, with ten being the best and one being the worst.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
