Proofpoint Email Protection Valuable Features
Proofpoint Email Protection serves as a first level of defense and can reduce phishing attacks and malware protection. Advanced analytics with AI and ML capabilities protect against business email compromise attacks. It maintains email hygiene and serves as a compliance support tool with audit and compliance mail logs and traces for certain financial organizations.
Proofpoint integrates with all SaaS applications, cloud deployments, hybrid environments, and M365 very effectively as well as with on-premises Exchange. It provides significant benefits for mail hygiene purposes, filtering, reporting, auditing, compliance, and advanced malware protection with reduced phishing attack rates.
Proofpoint has helped safeguard and protect digital assets by filtering a lot of spam content, with approximately 90% of junk and spam being filtered out. This helps end user productivity significantly. Some users may be deceived by false phishing emails and become prey for scammers and intruders, but Proofpoint effectively filters such emails before reaching user mailboxes.
The value of this product investment is substantial. One user at another organization before Proofpoint adoption was about to pay millions of dollars based on a spam email, which would have been a significant financial scam. Proofpoint effectively eliminates fraud where people spoof senders to appear as if they are coming from trusted partners or the CFO or CIO asking for money. All such financial fraud and scam emails are filtered effectively.
The percentage and dashboard statistics show how much has been filtered and how much has been safeguarded each month, including how many genuine emails were received and how many users accessed them. We can conduct drills to determine how many users are accessing suspicious content and reach out to them directly to educate them. Although we have sophisticated products in place, we still need end user education as part of safeguarding assets and ensuring users will not become victims of scams, particularly financial-related scams and organization sensitive details.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection performs very deep investigation on all incoming emails. It scans through multiple Proofpoint cloud applications such as TAP, TRAP, Email Fraud Defense, a customer support portal, and Proofpoint Security Awareness tool, supporting six to seven applications total. All these applications are cooperated and cloud-native, working together to determine whether an email is actually malicious or not. It is very easy to perform sandboxing of the incoming email, conduct investigations, and run checks on multiple sender intelligence and email firewall rules to easily identify incoming emails. Based on the decision, emails can be allowed, sent, or quarantined at the gateway level.
Proofpoint Email Protection can easily integrate with Office 365 cloud application and should be easy to integrate with Exchange on-prem as well, with both working simultaneously. User sync is easy, SSO configuration is straightforward, and managing all incoming domains on the Proofpoint cluster is simple. Most organizations are moving forward with Proofpoint Email Protection because of these capabilities as it is one solution for many problems.
View full review »The best features of Proofpoint Email Protection are the advanced level of anti-spam and antivirus technology. It has the TAP feature, which is Targeted Attack Protection, that helps me scan URLs and provides URL defense. The solution also has outbound filtering and prevention capabilities. I particularly like the TRAP feature where I can pull out all phishing emails from all users' mailboxes in a single click. The level of security is good, though I feel the pricing could be reduced.
Proofpoint Email Protection automates URL prediction, defense, prevention, and outbound filtering. This means I do not have to manually check who all my risky users are or what kind of emails my users are receiving every day. I do not have to manually check what specific kinds of emails my top management level users are receiving or whether they are receiving phishing emails. The solution takes care of risky sign-in users and performs URL filtering so I do not have to manually do URL filtering myself from separate websites.
My organization is a big organization with 1,300 plus users. To take care of all these users requires a good product because there are so many emails in one day that need to be filtered before they reach the user. I have visibility of the dashboard where I can see how many actual emails there are, how many emails are whitelisted, and how many emails are blacklisted. The solution provides a graphical representation and dashboard view showing how many threats are getting blocked on a daily and monthly basis, allowing me to present this information to management and discuss it with users.

We use Proofpoint Email Protection for their email security, which is POD. We use their TAP, TRAP, Clear, and we use the TAP ATO.
Proofpoint Email Protection is to keep the bad emails out of the gate. TRAP is to help me analyze user-reported emails to make sure that there is automation behind user-reported emails to reduce manual intervention. Clear does the same thing as well. Clear and TRAP work hand in hand. Then you have TAP ATO that actually monitors suspicious login and suspicious activity that's happening in our environment and alerts us when there is something wrong. Lastly, TAP is to give us the threat that is targeted to our industry.
Proofpoint Email Protection has impacted us by keeping the bad emails and the unwanted emails out. If you are the end user, I am sure you do not want to see a lot of spammy, graymail, cluttering your inbox and then you actually miss the most important email that you are actually supposed to be interacting with. When those bad emails are kept out of the gate, and the user can just focus on the email that matters most to them, I think that is how much Proofpoint Email Protection is impacting the entire organization.
Proofpoint Email Protection provides very attacked individuals visibility into people-based risk within our organization, where we can see all those very attacked individuals in the organization. That is a list that gives us visibility into who will need additional protection from a policy perspective or from a hardening perspective so that we really protect them. The risk score you get from that is very helpful to the organization.
View full review »Overall, the best features of Proofpoint Email Protection in my opinion are that their systems worked and they owned their mess-ups. I had some early issues early on in the relationship, and they said that the problem was theirs and they did things to fix it. I measure a vendor by how they deal with meeting their promises and getting things done as they said they would, and when things mess up, whether they own it and take care of it. They did both of those things.
Feature-wise, what I appreciate most about Proofpoint Email Protection is that their bread and butter is their email security gateway. That provides top-level, best of breed protections for email services. Then they provide a set of support suites around that to support implementation of security postures.
Proofpoint Email Protection is improving on the level of visibility it provides when it comes to people-based risk within my organization. They have a tool that identifies the most attacked people, called VAPs. It helps me understand who in the organization is being attacked most. They also allow me to identify people who are VIPs, so I can provide reporting on what is happening to them. In general, their visibility is very good on what happened to a message, what was processed, and what was delivered. I can see the characteristics of that message, the recipients, and the senders. This gives me great visibility into the email flow.
View full review »I like the user-friendly interface about Proofpoint Email Protection the most; in both the user view and the administrator view, they are doing great. It is easy to navigate and find the areas where you are heading. From the administrator perspective, there is another benefit because complex data tied with functions are organized well. If you are looking for something on the phishing part, they are quite quick in analyzing the data, and it is based on internal policies that allow quick analysis of many emails. From a user perspective, it is easy to access, for example, how interactive it is while working with the anti-spam filter, where users can go into their Proofpoint Email Protection mailbox to manage trusted and untrusted senders and domains easily without additional login steps. It has been comprehensive and easy to use for both users and administrators.
The level of visibility Proofpoint Email Protection provides into people-based risk within our company shows how we are protecting our employees and company from incoming emails. It is complex because our employees share their contacts, and when we educate them to not use their email addresses anywhere, we gauge our effectiveness in this area. The visibility helps us understand how effective our user education is against email spoofing and spam attacks. On the other side, if a computer gets infected, we gather metrics reflecting how our users are impacted by malware spam, which allows us to target education for those users better. The visibility has been based on two factors: incoming emails and outgoing emails that are marked as suspicious, which aids us greatly.
Proofpoint Email Protection has primarily impacted my SOC analyst workloads by focusing on metrics. If I have an administrator view, I get something from the tool itself, while from a management perspective, they would want to see it differently. The metrics we extract from the tool enable us to comprehensively understand how quickly we act and how effective we are in cybersecurity against public threats, as we are protecting the company and our users.
View full review »I have a few favorite features about Proofpoint Email Protection. One of my favorites was the ability to create filters. Under Proofpoint Email Protection, unlike other types of services, an administrator can create global filters or global policies. However, I think that one opportunity area for Proofpoint Email Protection is at the end-user level, where users can create their own policies and settings that will overwrite the global policy and settings. From a security perspective, this can be both an advantage and a gap because if an end-user creates a policy and setting on their end, it will overwrite any policy that the administrator has already set.
My favorite aspects included creating filters and policies to allow or block emails and using country-type lists. For example, if you do not want to allow emails from IPs that are not located in the US or want to block emails from different countries, you have that capability. Another favorite of mine was the anti-spoofing feature. The anti-spoofing settings are powerful because, according to current email rules, every domain needs to have SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configurations or authentications already listed. If a domain is not already verified by these methods, Proofpoint Email Protection will block it or provide a warning to an end-user or administrator stating that the domain is not using the correct SPF or that it is sending from a third-party application but its IPs are not listed in the SPF. As an administrator, this provides better visibility to accomplish requirements with customers. These two features were my favorites.

Proofpoint Email Protection performs exceptionally well with the TAP appliance, which is the main engine that detects emails. When it detects something suspicious or malicious, it provides a breakdown of extensive information. It shows the sender details including sender name, IP address, subject, and any attachments. For attachments, it clarifies what kind of detection was made and identifies any malicious URLs that have been embedded. This is excellent for gathering comprehensive data and showing snippets of what was picked up, providing a holistic view of what has been detected.
Proofpoint Email Protection has helped our team sit together and gather ideas on how to better the appliance. Recently, we had to deal with numerous spoofing emails. Although we had seen this occur before, once we implemented Proofpoint, we noticed a vast amount of spoofed emails coming into our organization. This type of intelligence helped us see what inconsistencies existed within our rulings and policies. It helped our team sit together, create different policies and rules to prevent such issues, and get a better understanding of what was actually happening in our organization. The information we gathered helped us come together and solve more of the issues occurring.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection offers a very wide range of features such as anti-theft, where it will protect the user identity. It will give a spam-proof, phish-proof experience, and whenever a user receives an email, it will check the content of the email for masquerading or trying to pretend it is from some other person. It will check all these things and then it will allow the email to the user's inbox.
Anti-theft and masquerading are the two main features of the email gateway. It will protect the user's identity. For example, if I am sending an email outside the organization, the email gateway will sit in between the sender and receiver. It will check the alignment and all those things, and it will mask the sender's identity. It will send it as a do-not-reply or send the emails from a do-not-reply email to protect the user's identity. When coming to the masquerading part, it will check for some spelling mistakes and misspelled domain names. These are all the things that I usually see in phishing email cases.
Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted our organization in a very fruitful way. The number of phishing attempts that we have seen has gradually decreased by using this email gateway. The number of users that I have started training by using their official manual and the official email protection manual has increased. They have a very good range of trainers from Proofpoint who will deliver trainings on a quarterly basis, so the team will get updated on the active threats that are happening in email activities. It is helping our organization a lot. I can see very good results in the case of phishing emails and spam. They have been reduced drastically.
The phishing emails have been decreased by 60% because of the active threat scanning and URL scanning and all those things. The spam score has been decreased by more than 70%.
It definitely helped the SOC analyst to analyze the events better. It will give a broad range of what things I need to check for when I receive an email. There will be some actions to purge the emails if I find it is suspicious, and I can do the bulk email deletion. Suppose if I received one phishing email, I suspect that many of the members in the organization have received it. In Proofpoint Email Protection gateway, I can search from that sender and I will get all the emails that were received over a period of time. I can purge them all with the same subject line or the emails that I suspect to be a phishing one. That is definitely a time-saver. Otherwise, it would have been hectic work for an IT person to go to each desktop to check whether the email was received or not. It definitely helped a SOC analyst to save time and do more effective and efficient analysis.
Proofpoint Email Protection has enabled the SOC team to save more than 20 hours a week. Before, I used to manually investigate the logs for the phishing emails. Now I have the web gateway or a website where I can check all the phishing and spam emails received. That is definitely very helpful.
Proofpoint Email Protection has influenced the quantity of threats our organization needs to protect against. It will help in analyzing the threats better. It will act as a barrier between the internet and the organization, where it will scan each and every email, incoming and outgoing. If it suspects it to be a phish or spam, it will definitely move it out of the user's inbox. The phish score is a very good thing. By implementing this tool, I have saved more than 20 hours a week and I have got a much more efficient team. The number of threats has also become very low after using this. I used to receive more than 10 to 15 phishing emails before, but after the implementation, only one or two emails will hit the user's inbox. The rest of them will be handled by Proofpoint. For that one or two, I will receive a notification that Proofpoint is suspecting this email, but it wants a confirmation from the user.
View full review »The best features of Proofpoint Email Protection are its advanced phishing and malware detection capabilities, URL Defense (Safe Links), attachment scanning, and automated threat remediation. These features help protect users from phishing attacks, malicious links, spoofing attempts, ransomware, and other email-based threats.
One of the most valuable aspects is its ability to analyze incoming emails, attachments, and embedded URLs before they reach the user's mailbox. If a suspicious email is detected, Proofpoint can automatically quarantine, block, or remove it, significantly reducing the risk of successful cyberattacks.
Another key benefit is Threat Analytics and Protective Intelligence (TAP), which provides automated detection and remediation of malicious emails. This reduces the need for constant manual monitoring by security teams and helps ensure faster response to emerging threats.
Overall, Proofpoint Email Protection offers strong email filtering accuracy, proactive threat prevention, and automated security controls, making it an effective solution for protecting organizations against modern email threats.
View full review »I found that the easiest feature to set up for Proofpoint Email Protection is its implementation. I think it was easy to implement, and customer support was very helpful during the implementation process, easing things. Proofpoint Email Protection is a set-it-and-forget-it solution. As long as you set your policies in place and have things in place, it is really straightforward compared to a couple of solutions I have used before.
The time required for email investigations and responses has changed with Proofpoint Email Protection's visibility and automation. With my previous solution, I constantly had to verify whether emails were real threats, which took much time to investigate. Now, it is much more efficient.
Proofpoint Email Protection has significantly influenced the quantity of threats my organization needs to protect against. I have been seeing a lot fewer threats thanks to the technology. Especially now, there is a lot of AI built-in that monitors user behavior. If anything abnormal occurs, I receive a notification or alert, making it easier to assess the situation due to AI's user behavior analysis.
After implementing Proofpoint Email Protection, I noticed a lot of changes in operational efficiency, such as fewer help desk calls because users have the ability to approve spam. They have full control now, and I do not have to worry about them installing Outlook anymore since they can use the app, which I control. This is beneficial for remote users as they can use the Proofpoint Email Protection app to access email, and I can enable or disable access as needed, enhancing safety on my side.

The best features in Proofpoint Email Protection that I prefer are TRAP Recall, mainly for handling TRAP-related issues.
Proofpoint Email Protection's admin console provides centralized management that can be interfaced with a SOC team. We configure, monitor, and respond to threat modeling threats. It provides full visibility of email traffic, user risk, and other threats across the organization, delivering threat monitoring and people-level visibility through policy management.
Policy management allows us to prepare rule condition sets where we can allow legitimate domains, permit senders, and create rules backed by policy management. We also receive incident response capabilities, reporting, dashboarding, and scheduling of reports according to user requirements, with integration and automation with the SOC team.
Proofpoint Email Protection reduces the qualities of threats through default policy rules we have configured for credential harvesting, business email compromise, and other email-based attacks. We combine reputation analysis, behavioral detection, sandboxing, and threat intelligence. We conduct internal campaigns that improve alerts and reduce false positives.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection provides quite comprehensive protection. Even if emails tend to reach the customer, some URLs are not active when they are sent to the email. The attacker may activate the URLs after delivery, maybe after two hours. So if the customer opens that email after two hours, it could be malicious. The URL defense actually rewrites the URLs and almost always opens that URL in the sandbox environment, so even if the attacker activates the URL after delivery, the user is quite protected in that case. Still, not all URLs are rewritten, so there is quite a chance to get exposed. Even though it opens in the sandbox environment, if the URL is activated post-delivery, the threat response, which is called TRAP, quarantines the email, but once it is delivered, it literally means they are exposed.
Proofpoint Email Protection is already using newer technology such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. It also provides the option to report emails that bypass Proofpoint but were detected as threats in other consoles. Proofpoint will take a deeper analysis, and their engineers in the backend may look at the email samples and evaluate whether this is a threat that bypassed their tools. We can provide this data to machine learning models, and that could improve the knowledge base of the email protection.

The best feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is that it is a very good tool. They use the F-Secure engine, which scans for absolute phishing and malware protection. There is also a good feature in TRAP. If any suspicious emails are delivered to the inbox, it automatically pulls them back from the user machine. Another good option is TAP. If a user clicks on any URLs, we can easily identify who clicked it as those URLs are already categorized as allowed or blocked. These two features are very good—TAP and TRAP.
Using the TAP features of Proofpoint Email Protection impacts our SOC analyst workloads by making it easier to identify if any malicious emails were delivered to the end user. We can see if those users clicked or opened the email. If an email was already opened, TRAP will automatically pull it back, which automates the process and is very helpful. Additionally, multiple emails are quarantined, and the easy help of the dashboard and reports is very beneficial for our SOC analyst team.
Overall, using Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted our security posture. We are using multiple products in Proofpoint, including DLP and email protection, and the real-time experience has us very satisfied.
View full review »I find Proofpoint Email Protection to have very regular use cases where it keeps preventing spam and spoofing by checking for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC protocols. The primary benefit of Proofpoint Email Protection is its very granular use cases, such as throttling or black scattering. Based on IP reputation checks, for example, if multiple emails come from the same IP marked as spam, that IP receives a bad score on the internet, leading emails from that IP to be quarantined automatically. I have control in Proofpoint to exclude that; this is not the case with Defender for Office or any other platforms. Proofpoint Email Protection offers very granular controls where I can control everything according to my own decisions.
The best features Proofpoint Email Protection offers include idle connection detection, which provides very granular access. Black scattering, throttling, and idle connections are the main three advantages where I have very granular controls. No other cloud platform provides these granular controls.
Among those features, I find myself relying on idle connections the most because it is very valuable. It is not just about legitimate connections; many attackers keep making idle connections to take the service down, which leads to denial of service attacks. This is a very good feature that Proofpoint Email Protection offers.
Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization through a use case involving email spoofing. An email appeared to be coming from a legitimate sender, while the return address was a spammer or an attacker. Users and the service desk were eager to get the email released, which was a true positive and should have been quarantined. Proofpoint Email Protection did its job and protected my organization, even though users were eager to release the emails and open them.

The ability to create custom blocks in Proofpoint Email Protection is a very big deal for me. I enjoy being able to do that, and I appreciate the advanced phishing and BEC protection. I value that it provides a lot of advanced phishing protection and smishing for executives. The TAP, or Targeted Attack Protection, which blocks many sophisticated and URL campaigns, is really nice. One of the features that Proofpoint Email Protection has, that a lot of vendors don't have, is URL Defense, which rewrites links such that even when bad links come in an email and it recognizes them, it rewrites them so you cannot click them and they go into Proofpoint isolation part. Additionally, the Attachment Defense that sandboxes attachments and detects malware from them is impressive. I appreciate that Proofpoint Email Protection has a very good Intel platform that tracks a lot of global threats and can detect threats before they happen or inform me of threats that are salient in my environment through a lot of correlations, making it one of the best.
Using Proofpoint Email Protection definitely helps with reducing the SOC Analyst workloads. In terms of context, Proofpoint Email Protection has good contextual analysis, so it helps reduce the time to containment because we have a lot of information, and while starting up, we do not have to start many procedures from scratch. We reduce a lot of the mean time to containment, and many threats are being caught, resulting in fewer incidents to deal with, which reduces the burnout from our SOC.

The best features Proofpoint Email Protection offers excel in the DLP portion, although the email security is falling behind industry standards.
What I appreciate about the DLP portion specifically is that it is very detailed and customizable.
Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization by advancing our email security posture. Before I started, there was no email security in place, so we are at least one step further in improving our security posture, although it does not meet the mark in some situations.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection is processing a very large number of emails, scanning a very large number of emails which is in the trillions or billions number of emails every year. Technically, they must be having a great threat intelligence because they are going through so many emails. Apart from that, they have a very good offering in which we have URL Defense, where they rewrite the URL, and once the user clicks on it, if the URL is safe, then you can go ahead; otherwise, if it is not, then the user will not be able to redirect it to the particular URL. That is awesome. Microsoft is also providing URL Defense, but they are not working actively, whereas Proofpoint is providing this in a proactive way. Apart from that, Attachment Defense is a very common thing that every other vendor is doing. TAP and TRAP are also part of it, where TRAP is the solution from Proofpoint that pulls out your email that is actually having malware or a phishing attachment. That is a very unique thing that Proofpoint Email Protection is offering in the market. That is why I can consider Proofpoint Email Protection as a number one vendor for email security.
Many things are getting done by Proofpoint Email Protection itself. There is no need that initially you are just going back into the SOC platform or any SIEM platform and creating unnecessary correlation rules to get impact and know which email is actually triggering or which email is malicious. Everything is getting done by Proofpoint Email Protection itself. That is why I would say it is making lives easier for SOC analyst guys.
View full review »My most favorite thing about Proofpoint Email Protection is definitely how well it filters emails. The number of emails is a major volume that Proofpoint handles. For the last 24 hours, we received 65,000 plus emails, 4,619 of them have been filtered away, and 60,000 plus have been delivered. Proofpoint actually recognized a vast amount of threats that are targeting the actual network of the customer environment, which is one of my favorite things about it. They do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to attack surface management.
Proofpoint Email Protection has massively improved the attack surface by defending against email borne threats. Looking at reports, I can see there are various attack campaigns running for the past month or so. Without Proofpoint Email Protection, most of these emails would have, slipped through Exchange, gotten into the user's mailbox, and created a lot of trouble for the organization. Thus, Proofpoint Email Protection has definitely improved defenses.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection works on policies, so everything is under the admin's control, and the admin can stop emails. If there are email attacks, the admin can detect and stop them immediately without having to contact support. The admin can perform everything in the console itself. Proofpoint Email Protection has very good granularity of access, and the detections are excellent. It has different types of detection for malware, phishing, spam, adult content, and bulk emails with different engines working behind the scenes, so the detections are quite accurate. The blocking system is effective, so if an email is on the block list, it will remain on the block list. The UI experience for admins is quite feasible and easy to navigate.
I prefer Proofpoint Email Protection to other solutions. I have used Microsoft Defender, Check Point Harmony Email & Collaboration, and Proofpoint Email Protection. Proofpoint Email Protection is better for admins to manage overall, though it has higher false positives. However, the navigation, UI experience, working experience, and detections are very good in Proofpoint Email Protection compared to other tools.
Proofpoint Email Protection easily detects even legitimate emails as spam or phishing, which has increased the workload. However, if an email is detected as phishing after delivery, Proofpoint Email Protection has a module called TRAP to pull back the emails. It also has URL Rewriting, which reduces the workload because everything is done by Proofpoint Email Protection itself, resulting in less manual interaction.
Proofpoint Email Protection detects risks and has a dashboard that shows how high-risk users are based on the emails they receive and their interactions. Based on that information, we can proceed with our investigation, and if remediation is needed, we can implement it. Proofpoint Email Protection identifies high-risk users, and we can put alerts on people we want to monitor, such as any CSOs or CISOs, to ensure their mailbox is not under threat.

I find that Proofpoint Email Protection's ATP, or Advanced Threat Protection, is a key feature that analyzes emails for threats or malware. URL Defense is another valuable capability that distinguishes it from other products. The default inbound email policies and rules enhance email hygiene by preventing spoofed emails and phishing attacks, making it a highly valuable solution due to the extensive control Proofpoint Email Protection provides when defining rules or policies.
The unified admin console and Threat Protection Workbench of Proofpoint Email Protection provide comprehensive insights into security operations by displaying open incidents, closed issues, and specific alert details. It integrates with various mail solutions such as Exchange and Office 365, showing alerts that were remediated and detailed forensics of incidents, making it an efficient tool for analysis and root cause identification for any critical issues.
Proofpoint Email Protection has a significant influence on the quality of threats that my customers need to protect against by scanning every email and conducting thorough checks. It flags suspicious email content, sandboxing it for deep analysis with AI and ML, preventing threats even if spam emails initially reach mailboxes. The Threat Auto Response Pull solution automatically removes suspicious content and escalates incidents to the SOC team for overview and insights.
The overall scope of Proofpoint Email Protection's threat protection capabilities is comprehensive, addressing modern security challenges with its core security features, including anti-spam, anti-phishing, ATP, URL Defense, BEC protection, email authentication, email encryption, and DLP. Its threat intelligence utilizes machine learning, enabling global updates for threats reported by other customers, effectively safeguarding all users without individual reports. This enhances user protection through features that allow quarantine management, reporting phishing attempts, and auditing changes within the system.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection identifies and triggers on all emails. Even when there is a false positive case, when an external sender tries to send an email to our organization, Proofpoint Email Protection detects if it is suspicious, such as when there are bulk attachments or the email is sent to bulk recipients. Proofpoint Email Protection has helped us significantly by detecting those bulk attachment emails and quarantining them in Proofpoint Email Protection console as spam. By our client's request, when we investigate why Proofpoint Email Protection quarantined it, based on the client's requirement and their business justification, we have adjusted the spam score for that external sender. Because of that adjustment, the user received the email. Spam emails are very crucial regarding data leaks in day-to-day operations, and Proofpoint Email Protection helps us detect those spam details, which has helped us very much.
We appreciate the external warning tag feature. When an external sender sends emails to our organization, Proofpoint Email Protection adds an external sender tag that states "Be cautious, this email was received from an external sender." This tag suggests to our recipients that they should open attachments after careful observation. It has helped our clients very much. We also appreciate the policy configuration feature, which provides numerous customization options.
Proofpoint Email Protection protects employees from phishing, spoofing, malware, and harmful URLs all before they reach the inbox. The platform combines intelligence, automation, and ease of use, giving businesses confidence that their communication channels remain secure without slowing down operations. Proofpoint Email Protection delivers consistent accuracy while maintaining smooth business email flow. The URL Defense and Attachment Defense features provide advanced protection by analyzing and blocking harmful content in real-time. The dashboard and detailed message tracking with smart search options empower security teams with quick insights, faster investigations, and better decision-making.
We majorly detect phishing incidents when a suspicious sender sends emails to our recipients.
View full review »The best features in Proofpoint Email Protection that I appreciate most are the capabilities to manage reports from users very effectively. When a user receives an email they believe is malicious and clicks on Report Suspicious Emails, the platform demonstrates very strong and granular capabilities to manage all these emails automatically, or if desired, we can also conduct further manual review. This is a very powerful tool from this perspective.
Proofpoint Email Protection has influenced the quantity of threats that our organization needs to protect against. We have largely covered this point already because Proofpoint functions as an excellent antispam filter and, combined with the closed-loop email analyzer that integrates the analyzer from the phishing button, the Threat Response, and the auto-pull capability, it automatically manages clusters of emails. The result is obvious.

One of the bigger features I appreciate in Proofpoint Email Protection is the personal digest for end users, which allows them to set up who they want to block, who they do not want to block, and whether they want to allow certain spam emails to come through.
Maintaining Proofpoint Email Protection is fairly straightforward. The primary maintenance task involves ensuring that items caught by Proofpoint are items we actually want to catch. When certain emails that should come through are blocked, we implement exclusions and manage rules at a mass scale, such as when leadership wants the entire environment to receive a specific email that is being blocked. This occurs very rarely, but it does happen occasionally.
Proofpoint Email Protection has minimal impact on our SOC analysts. If anything, it provides them with more time to focus on matters that are actually relevant. Since we still have user-reported emails in our environment, allowing Proofpoint Email Protection to catch the bulk of threats gives our SOC analysts time to focus on emails reported by actual users that may have been missed by Proofpoint. This is a significant benefit in catching potential true positives and helping us educate the environment on what constitutes normal spam versus concerning threats.
The visibility that Proofpoint Email Protection provides regarding people-based risk within the organization is good. The data it provides could be a little bit cleaner. There is simply a lot of data that comes in, so sometimes narrowing down those users who need more assistance with reporting or understanding their email behaviors can be a bit daunting. For the most part, Proofpoint Email Protection is a very straightforward application, and being able to find emails and understand what users are doing with their emails and how they are interacting with them is fairly straightforward and easy.
Having the main console for Proofpoint Email Protection has been beneficial. I have not had much experience with the unified console, so I cannot comment on it directly. From what I understand, if they have moved from multiple consoles to a single console, that would be a huge benefit, as having to go through multiple consoles to get the same data or information was daunting.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection's best feature is the rare occurrence of spam emails; it occurs very occasionally—once in a while each year. This excellent feature means we do not frequently encounter phishing emails, as Proofpoint Email Protection continuously updates virus definitions responsible for protecting the environment.
Proofpoint Email Protection provides high visibility into people-based risk, allowing users to define spam scores, so if a score of 98% is set, emails above that threshold should not reach users. Users can assess the legitimacy of emails, marking them as block or safe senders. Additionally, Proofpoint Email Protection guides users through training to help them identify which links to click.
As a SOC analyst, using Proofpoint Email Protection simplifies my workload by configuring email alerts; anything happening triggers alerts that come through quickly. I can easily analyze logs and customize options as per my organization's needs, allowing me to manage audit requirements efficiently.
Using Proofpoint Email Protection significantly reduces the number of threats I need to guard against; within a month, my organization sends and receives over 1 million emails, achieving 99.99% protection against phishing and spam, and handling around 5 to 10 million emails monthly while assigning a project manager for ongoing review.
Regarding Proofpoint Email Protection's capabilities in addressing modern security challenges, I assess it as excellent; it does not let phishing or spam emails bypass its defenses and is very strong.
After implementing Proofpoint Email Protection, I have noted improvements in operational efficiency due to their excellent support, which is prompt and responsive, often resolving issues within one or two hours, unlike other providers such as Microsoft, which has poor support.

I would say the accuracy of Proofpoint Email Protection is valuable. When I compare it particularly with Microsoft, I am very impressed by the accuracy, the machine learning, and the detection algorithm that they have. I find it very accurate, which reduces a lot of manual effort that we used to perform when we were using Microsoft. In terms of detection of spam, malware, and virus, the detection is 99.9% accurate.
Proofpoint Email Protection offers a SaaS-based deployment model, which is Proofpoint on Demand, and it is on the cloud. Earlier, false positive emails getting quarantined and legitimate emails getting trapped used to be a lot of manual effort. My team was manually spending a lot of time analyzing and releasing those emails. Since we have started using Proofpoint Email Protection, we have seen a huge drop in that number. Earlier, my team was spending five to six hours a day going through those quarantine emails, and now that effort has reduced to just one hour. We are not seeing that many false positives. The user reporting feature is also great because it logs an incident and initiates an investigation based on the verdict, which reduces manual overhead. The TAP overview provides all the necessary details needed to decide whether to release or block emails.
When I log into Proofpoint Email Protection admin portal and look into the dashboard, it provides a list of all the VIP users, what sorts of emails they are receiving, and how they are interacting with those threats. We have visibility on the click rate for bad URLs or attachments in emails, how many people have interacted with those emails, and details about attachments sandboxed or not. The dashboard provides a lot of customization, allowing us to analyze how users are interacting with threats, and if there is a real threat, we have the visibility to create phishing simulation campaigns based on those scenarios.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection is a market leader for spam defense model and malicious email defense model. First of all, the Proofpoint Email Protection spam engine itself is mature enough to handle this. Apart from that, it provides a brick model where you have a policy route, where you have a condition and where you have the disposition. Based on the severity of the cases, you either need to quarantine, redirect, or reject. You have a quarantine folder where you can do the analysis. Proofpoint Email Protection is a quite well mature product where you will get everything as a security, cybersecurity, email security expert.
Proofpoint Email Protection has saved our infrastructure from any kind of malicious attack. By using its components such as TRAP (Threat Response Auto-Pull) and TAP (Targeted Attack Protection), we are also mitigating those attacks which get delivered to users' mailboxes without any delay. Proofpoint Email Protection is a great security tool that is not only proactive but also reactive on a case-to-case basis and provides all the mature tools that can be utilized for the first layer and second layer message defense.
Our response time has improved because we are using TRAP (Threat Response Auto-Pull), which pulls the emails from users' mailboxes if any malicious email gets delivered. It improved our time. Earlier it was a complete human activity. Now, it's a tool-based activity, and so there is less chance of human error. Proofpoint Email Protection is a human error-free malicious email defense system.
The workload to our SOC has been reduced when we implemented Threat Response Auto-Pull because they are now only focusing on other things. The false positive alerts are also reduced. TRAP and TAP are making a positive impact.
Proofpoint Email Protection is not a normal traditional email protection tool; what it does is know about blacklisted IPs, blacklisted emails, and the behavior of spam. But this is changing day in and day out. Proofpoint Email Protection provides real-time scanning of the mails and real-time scanning of the URLs. If anything is not declared as blacklisted or malicious, it does a sandbox analysis. Based on the sandbox analysis, it triggers an alert that indicates whether the mail may be legitimate or the mail has some malicious activity. TRAP is another tool, which triggers a pull to users' mailboxes. It creates complete user efficiency as a proactive and reactive tool which we achieve through it.
Our malicious response has improved by 90% when we are using the TAP and TRAP together.
View full review »The best features for me in Proofpoint Email Protection are the URL protection and attachment defense, along with phishing protection and spam detection. The solution is very effective in those aspects.
Proofpoint Email Protection provides huge visibility because we can see who are the most attacked people, for example, and we can enforce our security awareness on these individuals. This is the main feature that we use because we do not have other features configured. I know that Proofpoint has other solutions to analyze user risk and so on, but we did not purchase those.
Proofpoint Email Protection helps significantly because we have the product called Proofpoint TAP, which stands for Targeted Attack Protection. In this console, we receive notifications and alerts related to phishing campaigns and malware campaigns. We are able to be quick and fast in detecting and preventing these situations.
Proofpoint Email Protection provides significant value when compared to M365. A huge amount of emails are being rejected before being delivered to the mailboxes. This helps tremendously. The goal is to deliver only legitimate emails to users with a minimum of false positives as possible, and that is the case with Proofpoint Email Protection.
View full review »What I appreciate most about Proofpoint Email Protection is that we rely on it for phishing, malware, and spam email detection, including malicious login pages, email purging, and required actions based on those detections. We check and validate advanced threat protection and monitor a couple of insider threat activities based on email, including confidential and personal data, as well as bulk downloading or sending data. Proofpoint has its own threat intelligence platform for identifying attackers' IP domains, analyzing phishing campaigns targeting companies, and integrating with SIM rules and cloud protections for Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
Using Proofpoint Email Protection has a major impact on our SOC analyst workloads by managing security alerts. Examples include workflows for malicious emails, checking attachment sandbox reports, and investigating URL detonation results. Typical steps involve reviewing whatever the user has reported as a phishing email, identifying who received it, and searching Proofpoint logs to identify campaign scopes.
View full review »The best features Proofpoint Email Protection offers include an easy-to-use dashboard and administrative tools, an easy-to-use quarantine filter for users, and continuous protection. Proofpoint Email Protection has very good reporting capabilities as well as integration with Microsoft 365 email.
We have noticed a huge improvement in productivity of the users by clearing up their inbox of malicious emails and spam, and it has also prevented and secured our environment on a daily basis, making the security team's job much easier. Proofpoint Email Protection has changed my security team's day-to-day tasks; instead of reviewing malicious emails or assisting users, Proofpoint blocks those emails automatically and filters them, saving time for my team.
Using Proofpoint Email Protection has freed up my SOC analysts' time and helps them focus on more important activities. Proofpoint Email Protection provides very deep visibility into insider risk and also has a category called Very Attacked Persons, which highlights which users in the environment are receiving malicious emails and at what level. Proofpoint has helped our environment to be more secure by protecting us from threats, especially over email.
View full review »The best features I liked the most about Proofpoint Email Protection are difficult to pinpoint because it changed its user interface. Initially, it was a very old, clunky user interface, and during the time that I used it, they upgraded to a new modernized user interface. The power, flexibility, configurability, and Proofpoint Email Protection's professional services were some of the biggest selling points for me at the time and the things that I benefited from the most. The solution was very granular and very configurable.
Using Proofpoint Email Protection has impacted my SOC analyst workloads by lessening it over prior tooling that was in place and making it more focused. The tooling is more mature, more modern, and easier to use.
Proofpoint Email Protection did influence the quality of threats my organization needed to protect against. The help Proofpoint Email Protection provided with my threat protection and managing security operations comes from being easier to work with overall than the legacy interface. The new unified interface was a more modern, streamlined interface. It was very granular and very configurable, so the old interface exposed all that and you had to know how to navigate it to get to where you needed to do all those little granular tweaks. The unified interface streamlined that and made it much easier.

Proofpoint Email Protection has helped block risky content by alerting us when someone clicks on a link in a delivered email post-delivery, allowing us to block it after the user opened the email or clicked on the link, or preventing the user from clicking the link while it is on the isolated browser.
I review Proofpoint Email Protection activity every week, checking reports through the Proofpoint admin and using the workbench to check for exposed users, statistics, and to release emails.
All the features that we use in Proofpoint Email Protection are really important to us.
We rely on quarantine management significantly in Proofpoint Email Protection because we receive numerous multimedia and encrypted attachments almost every day.
Quarantine management is the main protection feature for us in Proofpoint Email Protection, although the threat detection is also one of the good features because it is very active and responsive.
Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted our organization's protection and has maintained security very well.
View full review »Proofpoint Email Protection offers malicious email detection, phishing detection, malicious email removal, and phishing removal as its best features. I find malicious email detection most valuable day-to-day because we don't get infected.
Proofpoint Email Protection positively impacts my organization because it is a simpler solution in terms of user interaction compared to my previous email gateway, and its detection capabilities are considerably more advanced. It has saved time for us with less triage for responders. For administrators, the number of positive incidents we now test has decreased, and end users have less spam and malicious emails. It has reduced triage time and improved response times. Compared to my previous provider, the triage time is reduced by more than 70%.
Proofpoint Email Protection provides considerable visibility through the risk ratings and awareness training results. It has reduced threats by a considerable amount; I would estimate probably over 30%, though this is also due to technical improvements on my end, so I believe it would be less than that.
View full review »Some of the best features of Proofpoint Email Protection are that the user interface is very simple to navigate and the changes are pretty quick. I submit the block request and it's implemented almost right away. I also use TAP in order to look at the blocked domains and how many domains were blocked. This comes very handy to understand the security posture of your organization, especially from the email side of things, in terms of how many threats from email were blocked.
From the TAP dashboard, I go through what is in the wild or what URL is being spread out or what URLs these attackers are trying to use. This gives me an idea as to which area is being targeted. For example, if most of the URLs are related to an e-commerce website, I know that they're using the e-commerce as the main phishing attempt. Or if it's a gift card scam, which usually happens around the Christmas time and holiday seasons, that gives me an idea of what to look for, and if I'm training my users I can train them on a gift card scam. This does help me in that sense as well.
Proofpoint Email Protection has definitely impacted my organization positively. I cannot imagine not having an email protection, and Proofpoint Email Protection is pretty good at doing its job. Nothing is 100%. There are hardly a couple of emails that get slipped through it, but as soon as that happens, we go ahead and block it. There have been cases where we reach out to support, open a case, and then get a particular URL and domain blocked as well, which helps in the security of not just our organization but the overall other Proofpoint Email Protection users globally as well.
Proofpoint Email Protection definitely reduces incidents. If the emails are already blocked by Proofpoint Email Protection, it does not land in the user's inbox, which will definitely save the users from clicking into a malicious link. Additionally, because it gives you the ability to block your own domains, if you get information from a different source that says one of your other vendors has been seeing a lot of phishing attempts from a particular email, we can actually go and add it as well. This gives us the opportunity to block those domains, which makes things even easier for us.

The specific benefit of those reputation engines in protecting my organization is their capability against zero-day attacks; Proofpoint has an advanced technique that retrieves emails even after they reach the inbox, regardless of whether the user opens them.
I have witnessed a positive impact of Proofpoint Email Protection on my organization, having worked for one of the world's largest organizations that uses Proofpoint consistently for email security.
Most of the time, it removes phishing and spam from email inboxes, but in rare cases, some emails may reach user inboxes. Nevertheless, we can retrieve them using one of the Proofpoint modules.

View full review »The best features Proofpoint Email Protection offers are definitely the security email gateway, which provides us with information and pulls emails before they actually reach our environment. If an email has made it past the security email gateway, it will actively go out and pull an email out of someone's mailbox when they have received a phishing email. It is constantly and actively scanning mailboxes for malicious links that may not have been malicious once when they came in.
On a day-to-day basis, Proofpoint Email Protection has saved me about 50% of my workload, which has been a real godsend. Company-wide, this has definitely provided us with more information on how many actual phishing emails we receive on a day-to-day basis. Our previous product did not pull phishing emails out very often as it was not the greatest product.
We were able to find that number of a 50% reduction in my workload by the fact that the number of phishing alert emails that we received in our ticketing system had actually gone down. By calculating how much time I would spend on each individual phishing email, we were able to figure out time spent.

The consistency and security features of Proofpoint Email Protection function effectively, as they block emails that are meant to be blocked and allow emails that are meant to be allowed. Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization by blocking significantly more phishing emails, and phishing is the main entry point into getting compromised. I have more peace of mind knowing that more malicious emails are getting blocked.
View full review »The best features of Proofpoint Email Protection are URL Defense. The URL Defense feature has definitely helped my organization because when URLs come in, end users often don't know if they are safe or not. It is good that Proofpoint hides or changes URLs in a way that is safe. If users even click on them, the links do not go anywhere. Otherwise, when URLs come directly to end users, they could click on malicious links or malware that could be installed or forwarded. I have seen this before in a previous job, and here with using Proofpoint, it is really helpful.
Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization because when people know that we are using Proofpoint and they know we have set up a mailbox for protection, they forward issues to that mailbox and we search for them. For safe links and safe attachments, when Proofpoint hides the actual link, it is really helpful for end users, and they know whatever comes to their mailbox is safe to click on. I have definitely noticed fewer incidents, as last month we had maybe one or two tickets for Proofpoint that people wanted, and those are false positives, but it is way less than before without Proofpoint.

The solution's whole server is valuable because has robust algorithms, AI that learns what goes through a company's email server, and strong rules for analyzing data. Competitor's products are just standard email filters that block or pass with no ongoing AI for learning.
The security is very strong and comparatively better than Cisco CES. For example, in the last six months there has been an uptick in phishing campaigns or malicious email attachments purporting to come from Geek Squad. I see a substantial number of these troublesome emails pass through CES, Barracuda, and Mimecast but I have not seen a single email pass through the solution.
The Phish Alarm button allows users to submit questionable emails for review and complete analysis. A submitted email is analyzed in the cloud sandbox and the results are provided along with the actual email. Substantial information is included in this dynamic analysis such as email details, URLs, links, domains, ages of accounts, and what the email is intending to do. No other product offers this type of built-in email analysis. I have reviewed three different products including Cofense and they all send the email with its metadata to the user's security response team for manual review.

Its anti-phishing functionality is very valuable to the organization. As outlined above, we are able to automatically respond to Phishing Reports as well as stop as much as 80% of most Phishing Attacks at the front end leaving only a small percentage to be handled after the fact.

The most valuable feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is the TAP Dashboard. It provides more detailed information that can be used for forensic analysis. This is an advantage that other email security providers, such as Cisco, IronPort, or Microsoft do not offer in their dashboards.

View full review »There's Microsoft Office 365 email protection. The one good thing they have over Microsoft is their incredible search engine. That's why our clients like it. They like the search engine because they can search anything to do with their messages incredibly easily. This allows them to find troubleshooting issues. That's a big selling point.
There are some tools within it that are amazing. Even from a configuration standpoint, it's a hardened system. It's never been penetrated, so that's another great feature about Proofpoint.
They handle combined attacks. Defender for Office 365 does this as well. For instance, if you have an obfuscated URL embedded into an email and the email looks very legitimate, they can track that. Provepoint offers the same flexibility when combined with Office 365 as well. You can do your spam scores, and you can set up policies for people. From here, they can make a decision whether to select a spam policy or not. You can do the same thing with a lot of products, but Proofpoint makes it easy.
They all have quarantines where you can release messages. They're all very on par with each other. However, if you don't have Defender for Office 365, the feature parity is just not there. But there are lots of selling points, Proofpoint, in particular, takes care of. Still, they have a business continuity piece that is lacking in the Office 365 suite.
View full review »I like all the features with Proofpoint, such as how it filters the spam and marketing mail, lost reality mail, blocks phishing attacks, blocks malicious attachments, and stops phishing links. Also it can defend against the business email compromise impersonation technique. It is a complete solution for all email attacks. It filters for the bad, malicious attachments. If there is any executable file, it can be deleted. It is a good, complete solution.
Additionally, the user interface is good, it's easy to use. Whoever has good technical skills can understand it. Even the normal user can handle this solution easily. By the way, I was using Symantec Messaging Gateway. I don't recommended it at all, it makes a lot of issues. A lot of false positives were happening. So I started evaluating Proofpoint and Mimecast. Both products are okay, but I liked Proofpoint more because I saw that it has a high accuracy, offers a very good service, and their support is amazing. So as a whole product, I preferred Proofpoint. But Mimecast is also good.
