Centralized control console is rock solid and extremely easy to manage
Pros and Cons
    • "The first implementation is a bit difficult but once is up and running is rock solid and extremely easy to manage."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for cloud/datacenter/infrastructure backup. We have set up a centralized multitenant console to manage our customer backups from multi datacenter sources. We have a unique director and many transporters accross many infrastructures and we centrally manage customer's backups.

How has it helped my organization?

The centralized cloud console for many tenants is great and clear and helped us to grant a BaaS service of excellence.

    What is most valuable?

The centralized cloud console for many tenants is great and clear. The first implementation is a bit difficult but once is up and running is rock solid and extremely easy to manage.

    What needs improvement?

At the moment the solution is just great for our needs.

Good support, quick to deploy, clean management console, and supports various storage types
    Pros and Cons
    • "Every new version has got some tweaks and improvements in stability and speed."
    • "In the future, I would like to see support for backing up data to more cloud platforms, besides Amazon."

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use Nakivo for Microsoft Office 365 backup, as well as for file backup.

It can do all of the promised features well and without any problem.

How has it helped my organization?

Nakivo is responsible for backing up all of our Office 365 accounts, and it works very well.

It has improved the organization of our data in the system. We have better security in terms of emails and documents, too. After we deployed it to a VMware environment, it worked almost instantly.

Nakivo comes with built-in storage but you can add almost any type of storage to it. This includes options like NAS, NFS, etc. It supports a lot of connection types for backing up to the cloud, and it is continuously growing.

Every new version has got some tweaks and improvements in stability and speed.

    What is most valuable?

One of the most valuable features is the logical and clean mechanism behind the management console. It's easy to use, with a very clear and logical structure.

It compresses the backed-up data very well, and even after compression, from time to time, you can reclaim space from the backup repository without data loss. It's a very valuable feature.

The first time we set up all the jobs, and ever since, it has handled the daily tasks and manages errors, if it has any.

The Transporter module works well and it is fast, too, over the local area network. It saves us a lot of time, starting with the fast deployment and configuration, through to the daily backup jobs, controlling the processes, and watching the data storage space.

The repository management features are good.

There is a self-healing feature that works great if there is any file system damage that occurs.

    What needs improvement?

In the future, I would like to see support for backing up data to more cloud platforms, besides Amazon. It is a great start, given that Amazon is the largest cloud provider, but smaller companies use smaller clouds.

The tape backup capability can be also improved, perhaps by adding a cache for older and slower tapes.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Nakivo for two months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is solid as a rock.

It does not need a lot of computing resources, works silently, and does not need a lot of intervention.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a very scalable product.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support for Nakivo is great.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another similar solution prior to implementing Nakivo.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not complex at all.

    What about the implementation team?

    Our in-house team deployed it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It has a very good price in the market.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, my opinion is that this software is good and has improved very well since the previous versions.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Easy to set up and use, and includes agents for most NAS systems
    Pros and Cons
    • "It is easy to set up using the included virtual appliance and also includes agents for most NAS systems."
    • "We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is backing up a vSphere environment in our data center.

Our company supports local and national manufacturers, accountants, retail services, and other sectors of the economy. Further details would violate security protocols, so that is all I will say about the environment that we support, in a public forum.

Our company maintains partnerships with major technology providers and designs custom solutions for our tenants.

How has it helped my organization?

Nakivo is a simple-to-use alternative to other more costly vSphere backup alternatives. It is easy to set up using the included virtual appliance and also includes agents for most NAS systems.

    What is most valuable?

Nakivo is easy to use but includes many advanced features like crash-consistent backups for MS SQL, etc.

    What needs improvement?

We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Nakivo for two years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another similar product prior to Nakivo.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing currently allows for host-based licensing, which is advantageous if you have a lot of data on a few hosts.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Veeam before choosing Nakivo.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Quick and easy to set up, a clean GUI, and efficient deduplication
    Pros and Cons
    • "It is fast, simple, powerful, and has a price without competition."
    • "I would like to have the option of creating a subfolder per job in the backup repository because we had an issue where some files were corrupted and we lost the backup of the majority of the VMs."

What is our primary use case?

We are using this solution for backing up and replicating virtual machines.

We have a small environment with two hosts. Both of them are Levono servers with ESXi 6.5 U2 and fifteen virtual machines. All of the VMs are Windows and we have file, SQL, and Exchange servers.

How has it helped my organization?

Nakivo has enabled me to concentrate on other tasks without worrying about the daily backups. It has given us more confidence in the infrastructure thanks to the replication. The virtual machines are fundamental for the daily functioning of the company, so a failure would have a very damaging impact, and incur a great economic cost.

    What is most valuable?

The quick and easy setup of the virtual appliance made it simple and fast to deploy.

The interface is easy to understand and it gets the job done with a clean GUI.

    Efficient deduplication and compression.

It is fast, simple, powerful, and has a price without competition.

    What needs improvement?

I would like to have the option of creating a subfolder per job in the backup repository because we had an issue where some files were corrupted and we lost the backup of the majority of the VMs.

I would like a clearer log of errors. I enabled the schedule for space reclamation on the repository, but after one day I found that the repository was detached and the GUI didn’t give a status of the scheduled task.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for three months.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't have a different backup solution for virtual environments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I advise that this is the best product for medium or small environments according to my
    cost-benefit analysis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I tested Veeam, but I ultimately chose Nakivo because of the difference in cost.

Easy to recover individual files after accidental deletion or corruption
    Pros and Cons
    • "Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly."
    • "We want the backup job to consume fewer resources, as the utilization is very high if we choose the best compression."

What is our primary use case?

We implemented Nakivo Backup & Replication as a backup system for our customer. It supports their VMware vSphere environment.

The environment is made up of one director, one onboard transporter, one direct SAN repository, and for offsite backup, it has one transporter and one SAN direct repository.

How has it helped my organization?

Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly.

The Nakivo scheduled job also provides backup verification that will help us to ensure the backup is running properly and is truly recoverable.

    What is most valuable?

One of the key features is the ease in recovering individual files. In the customer environment, often accidentally, files are removed or broken. With Nakivo they can easily be recovered.

Another key feature is the ability to install multiple transporters to increase the backup duration for multiple backup jobs at one time.

    What needs improvement?

We want the backup job to consume fewer resources, as the utilization is very high if we choose the "best compression' option.

There was a problem we found regarding the repostory. When we enable the schedule for space reclaimation, once the schedule is trigerred the reclaimation will detach the repository but after 1 week we found that the repository is on detach status so we should detach it manuallu. We didn't know actually the reclaimation is on progress or already finsihed

For how long have I used the solution?

    Approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good. Provided the overall component is ok, the job runs normally and quickly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's good enough that the software can be scaled up and scaled out, depending on your requirements.

The quick and easy setup of the ready-made virtual appliance made it simple to deploy
    Pros and Cons
    • "Perfect for someone who doesn't want to waste time."
    • "It is missing the file and folder backup; however, this product is meant for virtual machine backup and recovery, so that is really outside of the scope of the software."

What is our primary use case?

I have a small environment with two hosts since most of our services are running in the cloud. We are a cautious group and we keep a copy of our files on-premise, as well as in the cloud. We are using NAKIVO for backing up our file storage and virtual machines.

How has it helped my organization?

The product has enabled me to concentrate on other tasks without worrying about the daily backups. Once I was past the initial setup and testing, I was confident that the product would perform reliably and as expected. So far, I have not been disappointed.

    What is most valuable?

The quick and easy setup of the ready-made virtual appliance made it simple to deploy. It was running within an hour. The interface is easy to understand and it gets the job done with a clean GUI. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to waste time.

    What needs improvement?

The software is aimed at backing up VM images but it would be nice to have an option to just backup certain files/folders and not the entire disk.

For how long have I used the solution?

    Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

NAKIVO is very stable and reliable. I am running an appliance that is just a virtual machine, and it has not given me any issues so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not tested the scalability of the product, but based on the features it should be as easy as the rest of the product is to use.

How are customer service and technical support?

My experience with support has been good, but I really haven't needed their help much.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used VMware VDP for backing up my virtual machines. This was complex and difficult to maintain. I wanted to switch to something that would not take as much time to manage.

    How was the initial setup?

The setup was simple and easy. Using the virtual appliance, all I needed to do was deploy the OVF (Open Virtualization Format) file, then set up the networking, storage, and connect the hosts. It doesn't confuse you with jargon or fancy interfaces, it's easy to use.

    What about the implementation team?

I implemented this by myself within an hour. I consider myself to have an intermediate level of expertise, but I believe a beginner should not have a problem with this either.

    What was our ROI?

I recognize my return on investment as the amount of time I have saved by implementing this solution. It was fast to deploy, quick to configure, and with little to no maintenance necessary, it is easy to manage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Setup is simple and with a ready-made virtual appliance, it makes deployment even faster. All you need is the capacity for running the appliance and storage on your existing VM host. Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Two of the other options that I considered were Veeam and Vembu.

What other advice do I have?

The product is a time saver and makes complex tasks easy to handle. A must-have for beginners and one-person teams.
