We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It covers a lot of different types of hardware. It can do a lot and saves us time.""Spectrum is great for root cause analysis. It has excellent correlation event management. Spectrum's stability and scalability are also amazing.""This product provides good visibility into applications at the backend.""It's a good tool. It's simple to do the configuration.""I can use it to detect whenever things go wrong on my network.""The main thing is obviously notifications about alerts, getting ahead of the curve to make sure that we do not have system going down, or if it is down we get to know it earlier.""Stability has been good. We really have not had any issues.""Offers a lot of functionality."

"Probe packages and probe deployment.""I can use the Drag and Drop feature to build dashboards within minutes.""I definitely appreciate the flexibility and ease of use. We've been using UIM for almost three years now. It's pretty much point and click, very easy to use. And we've had no problems scaling it to our own environment.""Latest version of tool comes integrated with Jaspersoft reporting solution, giving excellent reports.""Monitoring infrastructure and business applications are the most valuable features.""It is reliable when it comes to monitoring.""You can scale it pretty much however way you want to as long as you have the servers to throw at it.""It is easy to implement but requires good planning."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Pros →

"The monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature.""It is customer-centric. Customers can access the event list from their location or desktop and view the event. There is no need to go and connect to any other server and run events to have a view of all the events happening in the environment. We get a good response from customers about this feature and the main architecture of NetCool. Its processing is very good. Deduplication and correlation functionalities are good in this solution as compared to other solutions. A big advantage of NetCool is that it also supports multi-layered protocols. We can receive multiple events from different protocols like UDP, HTTP, and those events can be captured in NetCool.""The most valuable feature is the event management capability.""It is an easy-to-use solution.""The biggest plus points for me are the configurability and scalability of the solution, as well as the multi-tenancy of the platform.""Probes are the best feature because they are well written which rarely requires you to write additional rules. These probes monitor activity within your environment."

Cons
"Make it easier to certify devices.""It's not a great performance management tool. Its reporting capabilities are not very good at all.""If the integration is simplified or improved, it will be a unique selling point in comparison to the competition on the market.""There should be better integration with other Broadcom products, like network performance manager. Currently, for every part of a product, you need a separate server environment. You have something for Spectrum, you have something for network performance, and you have something for NetFlow. There are a lot of islands and server farms with different technologies. They should be redeveloped to get one platform for all.""It doesn’t give you performance metrics: You need CA eHealth for this.""Our consultant was four months on-site doing Spectrum setup and working through issues.""The interface is not nice and needs to be improved.""I would like to see them eliminate the Java console. The user interface for this is a Java applet that runs on your desktop, and it is very problematic for us."

More DX Spectrum Cons →

"A useful feature to have would be automatic configuration per standard by new robots that check in for any particular customer.""We have experienced challenges with finding a mechanism to deploy the agents, but it's only on the first deployment so it's not a big issue.""I think it can be improved by a greater provision of specialized technical support, as there are very few trained personnel there.""We had to do some work to make what was more of a business class solution work at an enterprise level.""DX UIM's reporting and customization need to be improved.""It needs a little bit more functionality in the Admin Console.""The other element is that there are no real templates, out of the box. Let's go with an example where we do have the probe, which is great, and we do have a really nuanced customer with a small set of devices that maybe not a lot of other customers use. There might not be a template in place, so effectively we have the tool in front of us but we still need to develop a solution. So it would be really nice to see a little bit more of something like a central repository of templates that we could use. That would help us expedite our onboarding process.""Making a GUI with criteria such as selection by robot/hub/probe etc."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Cons →

"There should be an easier-to-understand model, more of a flat-structured model rather than different tiers of licenses which complicates licensing.""The web portal and typical event controls are a little outdated.""Its technical support team takes longer to reply.""Its integration could be better. They should provide an easier integration for all the monitoring stuff, and it will make things easier for us. Currently, there is a complexity in integrating it with a vendor application, and we have to use another tool to integrate it with a vendor application. To integrate some applications with NetCool, I need to install an IBM tool on top of it. It would be good if they can provide an API or any kind of interface that we can leverage while developing a new protocol interface or application. We should be able to use an API or interface with NetCool. Its GUI can also be better. As compared to other tools, it is not user friendly, and it is not easy to do stuff through GUI. Whenever we do anything on the GUI, it takes time. They need to focus on the GUI part, especially the dashboard. They should focus on how users can effectively drill down from one box to another. The visual appeal of the dashboard is as important as the data and functionality.""I would like for the next release to be more user-friendly and out of date. The next release should focus on the cloud, AI, and ML technologies.""The cost of the product is quite high. They should work to adjust their pricing models."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"

  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."

  • "You have to have the right level of budget to afford this solution."
  • "Its license cost is a little bit more than other solutions. Our customers expect a standard market price that is comparative to other products. For each and every NetCool OMNIbus component, we have to purchase a separate license. These components are not free with the product."
  • "It is a costly solution."
