Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange Platform Valuable Features

Sumit Bhanwala - PeerSpot reviewer

I find it to be good. The solution is cloud-based with the latest inspection engines, which I find to be amazing. We are less dependent on data centers and device management, which reduces our efforts significantly.

It improves our device management, data center management, and updating devices. We need fewer engineers for this management, and it reduces time and efforts for data center management, device upgrades, and IT support.

The most valuable features of Zscaler SASE include web filtering, application control, and the private access configuration. The private access configuration is particularly valuable as it allows user-based access control, limiting access to only what is needed for specific users and applications.

With Zscaler, there are various modules like ZIA, private access, and digital exchange. All focus on internet access, but there's a concept where all traffic is forwarded using the Zscaler agent.

Previously, they used a different portal where traffic from tools like Jira and FortiGate was allowed. The issue was that third-party applications weren't always supported. We had to configure them manually, and often we had to forward traffic to the Zscaler Cloud.

Zscaler brought a new concept to the world or to the networks, basically introducing the zero-trust technologies of the product to bring in the buzzword about it and then make it a norm or create it as a norm.

So, this is a product that can give you zero trust when it comes to the VPN solution compared to the legacy VPN. So, it has become a mandate to manage.

The most valuable aspect of Zscaler Cloud DLP is its automatic DLP feature. Additionally, it also offers firewall capabilities. In terms of its firewall features, it provides a range of security measures to protect network traffic, but specific details about these firewall features would depend on the version and configuration of Zscaler Cloud DLP being used.

With Zscaler Cloud DLP, my company benefits from the granular control it provides us. My company provides Zscaler Cloud DLP to our clients as per their requirements, and moreover, we can filter out and deny or allow providing the features related to DLP for a specific user or a location. Basically, Zscaler Cloud DLP provides general control to a person over which files a person wants to allow or deny for a specific user or location. Zscaler Cloud DLP is very easy to configure. With just a few clicks, one can easily take care of the configuration part related to the product.

The most valuable feature is its ability to establish connectivity for remote users and remote endpoints. It offers a high level of granularity compared to typical VPNs, which also encapsulate a lot of I/O. By using Zscaler SASE for home access or access in remote areas, it bypasses the issues introduced by ISPs.

Sometimes ISPs block certain protocols or applications, but when everything is encapsulated within the Zscaler Cloud, the ISPs don't get a chance to interfere or block. This is especially helpful when it comes to file sharing. Sometimes ISPs block it, so we can't share files using cloud services remotely. Zscaler SASE gives non on-premise users the ability to securely access and sync with on-premise resources.

The in-line DLP feature is one of the most vital features of the solution. Data security is a global concern, like in Europe there is the EDPR, while Qatar has its own data protection laws, so at our organization while data gets classified using different tools like Boldon James, security control in transit remains a concern so the in-line DLP policy is a valuable feature in Zscaler DLP that remains absent in most other products. Zscaler DLP takes care of the security when data is in motion.

It stands out for its seamless integration with various security solutions, such as EDR, SOAR, etc. The implementation process is straightforward, requiring minimal ongoing maintenance. The desktop agent enhances endpoint protection against zero-day vulnerabilities, providing a safeguard until patches are released. Its adaptability extends beyond a single solution, allowing integration with different models and solutions. The alert detection system and additional security features add an extra layer of appeal. The flexibility to start with one aspect and expand within a single vendor is advantageous. The agent's versatility is notable, used for digital experience monitoring to collect valuable endpoint metrics for troubleshooting. The security browser function distinguishes between known safe sites and potentially suspicious ones, ensuring a secure browsing experience. Unfamiliar websites are run in the Zscaler Cloud, isolating them from the endpoint and preventing potential phishing or malicious scripts from reaching the user's device.

The most valuable features are the File Type Control and SSL bypass policies. We have multiple options, such as very flexible policies and modules in Zscaler. We will define them based on our requirements and the active Internet. We also have geolocation users. For example, a user from Singapore moves to Dubai. When the user tries to access the Internet, Zscaler automatically detects the geolocation and drives our traffic to the other channel. There is no issue here.

When using a Blue Coat, we have some problems. Sometimes, some of our users have some issues, but once we update the agent, the traffic goes to the current geolocation without any problems, and they can access it. Sometimes, we have some URL categories blocked in our environment, but HPE sometimes removes the block. We request that the vendor to remove the block from the correct URL category. They provide a suitable solution based on the findings.

Zscaler is location-independent. Even if you switch to another country, users will have the same security posture. For example, if you are in one country and travel to India tomorrow, you will still have the same security posture as the rest of your team. You will also be able to access all your resources over the Internet as a team, regardless of location. There is no dependency on local firewalls at the site. Everything is in the cloud, so you get security wherever you go.

Zscaler provides several security features, including encryption, URL filtering, application control, and credential theft protection. They are also updating their DLP capabilities.

Zscaler Cloud DLP provides you with basic DLP features that you get out of the box such as keywords, regular expressions, and data identifiers, for example, your social security numbers, and credit card numbers, with everything built into the product, so you can directly use those features within the policies. You don't need to create it from scratch, and to me, this is the biggest benefit of Zscaler Cloud DLP. You have a lot of templates to choose from in the solution, rather than having to create templates from scratch or reinvent templates.

Their technology can monitor and inspect data on the corporate level. It protects all the sensitive data from within the organization. You could definitely review anything that is on the network and verify the DLP tools by setting alerts and rules in order to mitigate risks such as losing your customers' PAI.

It's a pretty solid solution.

It connects to the cloud, so it's really fast. It obviously is going to bypass the gateway, give you security controls, and also allows SSL traffic to be hidden.

You can close your data protection gaps with Zscaler. You can quickly find all the classified, sensitive data across the cloud. You can also have protection using advanced features like Exact Data Match, and that's document matching as well as machine learning.

The pricing of the solution is very good.

The solution is very stable.

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.

The product scales well.

Zscaler is an integrated platform, so it's fully integrated with zero-day protection to all the users working from home or in our offsite network, and it's going to make customers close that security gap.

The ZPA is a unique feature which offers VPN along with all the additional security we need while using the VPN network. This is a cloud solution and it has all the features inbuilt for all security requirements. The other big advantage is that it doesn't require you to sign in every time like typical VPN connections. Usually, whenever you want to connect to VPN, you need to open the VPN, sign in and authenticate with your multi-factor authentication. With this solution, you open your laptop and you are connected to your VPN. Authentication is required about once a week and that's it.

The only advantage I see is no more connection is required by the users. It is attached to the single-side logon with our key directory. That is the most valuable feature.

With AT&T, we had another way to connect with the user. We had no single-side logon solution. Zscaler Private Access is a single-side logon solution.

We don't need to connect anymore. It is automatically connected when you log on in Windows. That is the only advantage I see because it is a bit slower.
