Easy to set up, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "Email security is the most valuable feature."
- "Trend Micro Apex One can improve its vulnerability assessment and monitoring tools."
What is our primary use case?
Trend Micro Apex One has various applications. We use the solution for our network interface, and also for endpoint malware attacks. We have also conducted simulation testing, and phishing attacks using the solution.
How has it helped my organization?
We have implemented three levels of security to minimize endpoint security for user protection. We have also implemented a Data Loss Protection (DLP) policy to protect data in transit, data in motion, and data at rest. Additionally, we have implemented Server Deep Security to protect virtualized servers hosted in our organization.
What is most valuable?
Email security is the most valuable feature.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Apex One can improve its vulnerability assessment and monitoring tools.
In a future release, I would like to have more assessment tools and tracing testing.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I give the scalability a nine out of ten.
We have over 300 people using the solution.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support provides an immediate response.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Kaspersky and switched to Trend Micro Apex One because of the Integrated Business Solutions. My goal was to accomplish two areas, particularly the Deep Security server. I was searching for my server and subsequently, data loss protection. For the two extra seasons, the cost was lower than that of Kaspersky and the features were more extensive.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex, but good documentation and knowledge are required. The person implementing the setup should be knowledgeable of all the features available, and the knowledge should be distributed among the end users so they are aware of what they will have and the benefits.
We completed the implementation within one week using three people. Our initial target was around three hundred users with endpoint protection and our deep security, which can virtualize our servers, as well as the additional features of the DLP.
What about the implementation team?
The implementation was completed with the help of a consultant, a Trend Micro support person, and myself.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment since we implemented Trend Micro. We have been able to get rid of all the spam features and additional tools we were using. Another benefit is that we are using the solution to prevent malware issues, which is cost-saving every year. Definitely, if I look at the past five years, I have still managed to save the cost because the implementation cost is a one-time fee, not an annual cost. In a five-year period, the solution has saved us around 30 percent of the cost.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of the solution is reasonable but we also have to factor in the cost of the implementation which is expensive because we have to hire a third party.
The license fee for 300 users is approximately $2,000 USD and $500 USD for the implementation cost.
What other advice do I have?
I give the solution an eight out of ten.
We require three people to maintain the solution.
I advise people to focus on data protection and network security as these are the key areas in order to utilize the full benefit of Trend Micro Apex One. This includes data protection loss per the CTAR, which provides cybersecurity with data loss protection, and the networks.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

We have around 10,000 users on the solution at this time.
How are customer service and support?
I'm not sure if our team has ever used technical support. I've never contacted them directly.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Trend Micro's been in our company for quite some time. Apex, under the new name, is the latest. Before that, it was OfficeScan, which was Trend Micro as well. We've likely used Trend Micro for a decade.
How was the initial setup?
It's an easy product to set up, from my understanding. I don't recall discussing any complexities during implementation. The deployment likely took less than a month. It doesn't take too long.
At this point in time, just a couple of engineers are needed to manage the solution.
What about the implementation team?
Our team handled the setup process. We did not use an integrator or reseller.
What was our ROI?
We've likely experienced an ROI while using the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'm not familiar with the licensing costs. They are a part of our enterprise agreement.
What other advice do I have?
I'm not sure which version I'm using at the moment. I don't directly manage the solution at the moment.
Potential new users need to evaluate their licensing cost and the solution, whether it checks all the boxes and has all the features they need.
I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

The cloud model allowed us to decommission our servers and consolidate
Pros and Cons
- "Before Apex One, we used OfficeScan, which Trend Micro acquired, but it was on-prem. We were managing three or four anti-virus solutions. Apex One's cloud model allowed us to decommission the on-prem servers and consolidate. We get all the same features, and everything is upgraded automatically, so we only need to use the software."

Apex One's cloud model allowed us to decommission the on-prem servers and consolidate. We get all the same features, and everything is upgraded automatically, so we only need to use the software.
For how long have I used the solution?
Trend Micro only launched Apex One maybe two or three years ago, and we've been using it for about a year or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Apex One is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Apex One is scalable.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up Apex One was straightforward. When we moved from on-prem OfficeScan to Apex One, that migration was also smooth. We didn't need to do much. Usually, on-prem to cloud migration takes a lot of research and planning. Apex One installation is practically automatic, so it didn't take that much effort. We migrated the endpoints from on-prem to the cloud without much manual work.
What about the implementation team?
We had the help of an integrator. Our in-house team has about eight to 10 people plus Trend Micro's account manager and the integrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We renew our license for Apex One annually.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Trend Micro Apex One nine out of 10. I don't give it a perfect 10 because of the Active Directory integration. It would make things easier if the Active Directory were integrated more seamlessly.

Straightforward to set up, knowledgeable support, and the web reputation and user behavior monitoring features help to mitigate careless user actions
Pros and Cons
- "We really like the ability to have different policies to keep servers and endpoints unique to their own policy."
- "Apex One has streamlined our AV."
- "I'd like to see the different interface components combined into one, or be allowed to get to the agent management portion without having to log into the main console."
- "I'd like to see the different interface components combined into one, or be allowed to get to the agent management portion without having to log into the main console."
What is our primary use case?
We use Apex One for Antivirus only.
Our company currently has more than 8,500 machines with the Apex One agent installed, including servers and workstations. We are a 100% Microsoft Windows environment.
Being a financial institution, data integrity is paramount to keeping our customers' information safe, as well as the well-being of the bank. We use the Apex One web console to review logs and triage any infections that may be occurring or that have occurred.
We really like the ability to have different policies to keep servers and endpoints unique to their own policy.
How has it helped my organization?
Apex One has streamlined our AV. We use the SaaS instance in the cloud.
We use real-time scans, manual and scheduled scans for viruses, malware, grayware, ransomware, etc. We also use other modules like Behavior monitoring and predictive machine learning, malicious web tracking, and blocking.
We were previously using the Trend Micro OfficeScan antivirus product, so it was only natural that we upgraded to the Apex One product when we decided to upgrade. The SaaS instance in the cloud was right for us.
What is most valuable?
We really have found the web reputation monitoring and the behavior monitoring portions to be highly valuable. These modules really cut down on careless user impact.
Behavior monitoring keeps ransomware from taking hold.
Real-time scans also monitor files as they are accessed, downloaded, sent, etc.
We have our environment set up to alert our security department not only when endpoints are infected, but for anything that is considered a low risk that may need further investigation.
A daily check of the logs helps us keep an eye on those things.
What needs improvement?
The console is divided into two parts. One for the policy and configuration, another for agent management. I'd like to see the different interface components combined into one, or be allowed to get to the agent management portion without having to log into the main console.
Another item that I would like to see change is the fact that, on occasion, the console will be updated and items that I once knew the location of have moved to a different location. I would like to see a model where we are alerted to the changes as they happen.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Trend Micro Apex One for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, we have no complaints. We have had zero downtime with our SaaS instance.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
From what I've seen, we would have no issue adding more policies, endpoints, etc. to our environment.
How are customer service and technical support?
Our account manager and lead tech were essential in setting this up and getting everything the way we needed. They were quick to answer our questions and very knowledgeable.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were an OfficeScan portion, which was rebranded and upgraded to Apex One.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very straightforward.
Go to the site, answer a few questions and within five minutes, you're up and running.
What about the implementation team?
We did the work in-house, with support from our Trend team if needed.
What was our ROI?
Our ROI is yet to be determined, as we have not had the product long enough.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The SaaS version is competitively priced and amazingly easy to set up.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated CrowdStrike, Carbon Black, and FireEye.
What other advice do I have?
We have really had a good experience so far with Apex One.

- "Its threat-hunting capabilities and the information about the known threats are the most available features. It can easily catch any threat in our environment."
- "We sometimes face issues with policies and rules while working with Apex One. They sometimes do not work."
What is our primary use case?
We use Apex One for security purposes. We have installed Apex One agents on 1,900 laptops and desktops. We use all the modules that are available in Apex One.
How has it helped my organization?
We have seen a reduction in viruses and malware since moving to Apex One.
Apex One is very good for threat detection and removal and scanning purposes. It has advanced protection capabilities that adapt to protect against unknown and stealthy new threats. These capabilities are definitely important for us.
It can detect ransomware with runtime machine-learning capabilities. It has the capability to detect ransomware-related threats as well.
Apex One can be integrated with other security products.
They provide virtual patching to protect against vulnerabilities even before a patch is available for the source of the issue.
What is most valuable?
Its threat-hunting capabilities and the information about the known threats are the most available features. It can easily catch any threat in our environment. If you have applied policies and rules, it quarantines or mitigates a threat. It is a very good feature in Apex One.
Apex One is easy to learn. It is not complex.
What needs improvement?
We sometimes face issues with policies and rules while working with Apex One. They sometimes do not work.
When we implement an application policy for application control, sometimes, users are not able to access other applications. We apply the policy to a specific application, but it gets applied to all applications. We have found such issues, so the application module or application rules need to be improved in Apex One.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Apex One for five years. I have been using it in my current company for four years, and I also used it in my previous company.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There is downtime, but it is minimal.
How are customer service and support?
Their support is very good. Whenever we need their help, we raise a ticket, and we get a response within one or two hours. We get a very good response from Trend Micro support. I would rate them an eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have previously used McAfee.
How was the initial setup?
It is on-prem as well as on the cloud. I was involved in its initial deployment, but it was four years ago. It was simple. It was not too complex.
In terms of maintenance, it does require maintenance.
What about the implementation team?
We got help from Trend Micro. There were two people in total. I and one person from Trend Micro were involved in its deployment.
What other advice do I have?
You need certain skills and a certain amount of knowledge to work with this solution because a lot of things are there. I have been working with Apex One for about five years, and it has been good so far. It is very easy to use, and it gives good protection from threats. I would recommend it to others.
Overall, I would rate Apex One a nine out of ten.
