I use the solution to communicate with the developer community. If I have any issues, I reach out to them for troubleshooting. I also use the product to know about upcoming tool upgrades. We use the solution as a community to reach out.
Project Engineer at CDAC
Enables communication with the developer community and has a very good portal
Pros and Cons
- "The portal is at its best version now."
- "Sometimes, the servers are not available."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
We use Dependency Track. I had multiple issues during the configuration. I contact the tool developer using Slack to identify the issue. The developer provided me with a resolution, and the issue was resolved.
What is most valuable?
Sometimes, someone has already faced issues similar to what we are facing. Instead of asking the question again, we can search the question and look for the remediation that is already mentioned. The portal is at its best version now. There shouldn't be any changes. The solution provides two-factor authentication. The integrations are good.
What needs improvement?
Sometimes, the servers are not available. It is rare, but it happens.

Solution Consultant at Apptio
A perfectly scalable tool that is easy to use and enables organizations to stay in contact with partners and create workspaces
Pros and Cons
- "The product is easy to use."
- "The integration with SharePoint doesn’t work properly."
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution mainly for chat. I go on spontaneous calls with colleagues. We also have channels for specific topics or customers and share workspaces with partners. Some of our partners also use Slack. So, we use shared workspaces and channels, which is a very good way to stay in contact with them.
What is most valuable?
The product is easy to use. It provides an easy way to stay in contact with partners and create workspaces. We can exchange information, have discussions, and search for information. We create channels for technical topics. It is quite useful to find answers because others in the team might have the answers to our questions.
What needs improvement?
The integration with SharePoint doesn’t work properly. It might be due to an access issue in the company. It is quite annoying. Sometimes, we cannot copy a shared document, but it might be because of the settings.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool is super stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is perfectly scalable. The whole company uses it. We have around 1000 users. My colleagues at IBM have an even larger installation that works quite well.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Our organization has multiple tools, like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex. I can choose the one I like. I chose Slack because it is easy to use, and the spontaneous communications and channels are very useful. I prefer Slack for chats, channels, and exchanges with partners, but I prefer Teams or Zoom for web meetings, training, and webinars.
How was the initial setup?
The product is easy to set up. The solution is deployed on the cloud.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend people to start using the solution. And make sure you use the status feature and synchronize it with Outlook, so that people can see when you are busy. Overall, I rate the tool a ten out of ten.

- "The product should provide integration with other solutions like Gmail or Outlook."
What is our primary use case?
I use the product to chat and huddle with company members.
How has it helped my organization?
It doesn't offer much in terms of improving the organization. It's just used for chatting, being in touch with others, and setting up meetings.
What is most valuable?
The huddle feature is valuable to me. We can easily make a video call.
What needs improvement?
The product should provide integration with other solutions like Gmail or Outlook.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution’s stability is good. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy. It took five to ten minutes.
What other advice do I have?
The product is not difficult to use. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Manager at a computer software company with 1-10 employees
Suitable for small companies and stable solution
Pros and Cons
- "Slack is a very stable product."
- "The reason is we are moving towards a new CRM, so we have a suitable solution to integrate with the new CRM."
What needs improvement?
The reason we are considering other products is because of integration. It doesn't integrate with CRM or ERP. We worked with Microsoft Exchange and we worked with CyberArk. We have what we need, so we don't require Slack anymore. But I think it's a good product.
The reason is we are moving towards a new CRM, so we have a suitable solution to integrate with the new CRM. We have more specific needs now. Slack lacks in certain integration.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Slack is a very stable product. However, with the free version, we only have limited message history access in the free version. But overall, it's a good product and a good solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There are around ten end-users in my company using this solution. There is only one administrator for the solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Slack is a good product in its free version, but currently, we are integrating it with VM-sharing solutions like Dolibarr. We are also exploring other products similar to Slack. So, in about a month, we will be moving towards these new products and won't be using Slack anymore.
However, until now, for the past two years, it has been a good product.
In the new CRM RFP, we plan to use Nextcloud. We also use SysTrack, but it's free. That's how our organization works. We have our own server, etcetera.
So, the only problem is we could not integrate it with our new solutions.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend Slack for small companies. For medium and large companies, I'm not sure. Maybe there are integrations available in the premium version of Slack. Otherwise, it is a very good product.
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten .

Senior Director - Data Management at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
A collaborative tool that helps teams across different locations to have a common workspace
Pros and Cons
- "I am impressed with the product's calls and screen share features which are very useful."
- "I want a feature in the solution that will help me share documents only with the set of people that I prefer rather than all of them. I would also like the solution to have a feature similar to Microsoft SharePoint where you can group all your documents."
What is our primary use case?
The tool helped us with collaboration. Another use case for us was ticketing, where people who needed to take action could be informed immediately on Slack rather than over the conventional mechanism of emails. You need to look over hundreds of emails and then realize that there is a ticket. You can also collaborate to get document reviews done and avail feedback immediately rather than exchanging and putting it in our systems.
What is most valuable?
I am impressed with the product's calls and screen share features which are very useful.
What needs improvement?
I want a feature in the solution that will help me share documents only with the set of people that I prefer rather than all of them. I would also like the solution to have a feature similar to Microsoft SharePoint where you can group all your documents.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with the product for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I haven't encountered any issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable and can accommodate thousands of users. I didn't see any problem with scaling. My company has 1500 users for the product.
How was the initial setup?
We use the solution's cloud version.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate the product a nine out of ten. The tool is a great collaborative tool that works well with teams spread across different locations. It helps them to come together and have a common workspace to work efficiently. Slack is a productivity improvement tool as well. My company has migrated to Teams since we subscribed to the Office 365 suite and switched to a standard communication channel.

Slack can be used right away also for small companies. I personally do not need tons of integrations. It is beneficial on its own. And it runs super stable.
