Highly scalable and useful policy CSPs
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the policy CSPs."
  • "The closest Microsoft Intune can be to GPOs, the better. There needs to be more granularity on application deployments. However, they have done better recently with the application deployments."

What is our primary use case?

I am using Microsoft Intune for supporting clients with mobile devices.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the policy CSPs.

What needs improvement?

The closest Microsoft Intune can be to GPOs, the better. There needs to be more granularity on application deployments. However, they have done better recently with the application deployments.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Intune for approximately seven years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Intune is scalable. You can add Defender ATP and other inbuilt features.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support from Microsoft is not good, they take a long time to respond to a case and they do not update you on what is happening on a case.

How was the initial setup?

I've been on multiple deployments. The range from the pilot can take from a couple of weeks to a full-scale deployment, which can be a couple of months to a year. The longest I have been involved in was eight months.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The clients pay for a license and each can have a different type of license, such as an E3 or E5.

What other advice do I have?

I have found sometimes Microsoft Intune does not work and it can be very unresponsive.

The honest truth is that Microsoft Intune is the future. Even though it's not the finished article, because it changes every week, the earlier you adopt it, the fewer hassles you will have down the line. The more you wait, the bigger the problem you might end up having trying to migrate.

I rate Microsoft Intune an eight out of ten.

Efficient management of thousands of mobile devices
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is scalable. We currently have tens of thousands of users within our organization using the solution."
  • "We would like to see support for Chrome and/or devices for Chromebooks."

What is our primary use case?

We use this for management of all mobile devices.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see support for Chrome and/or devices for Chromebooks.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We currently have tens of thousands of users within our organization using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

I think customer support is quite good, we have enterprise support and premier support agreements.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

Potential users should run a proof of concept. This can be done easily because Microsoft is offering a free trial period of one month.

I would rate this an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Great for mobile device management and security controls with data loss prevention capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution appears to be stable and scalable."
  • "They should make it easier to order it, however, that's generally true for everything from Microsoft."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for mobile device management and security controls.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of the product is data loss prevention. That's really a benefit of the platform in general.

The solution appears to be stable and scalable.

What needs improvement?

The biggest improvement could be in the implementation, the ease of the implementation of it. They should make it easier to order it, however, that's generally true for everything from Microsoft.

I'd love to be licensed in Microsoft. I'm trying to do that, however, I can't find a training program that will fit with my schedule. Everything requires you to be on-site for a week, as opposed to on-demand training. A big improvement would be having some on-demand training that is quality and not just a sales pitch.

I'd like to see mobile device wiping to be better. That feature is a critical feature. If that could be enhanced, I would be grateful.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been dealing with the solution for a year and a half to two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

My understanding is the solution is stable, however, I can't say if that is the case for enterprise-level deployments.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable to a point. I don't have a good insight on enterprise-level deployments and therefore cannot speak to how much it can scale.

How are customer service and support?

I've never reached out to technical support. I wouldn't be qualified to comment on their level of service.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup can be a bit difficult. I'm not certified in any way for Microsoft.

I cannot speak to how many people are required for deployment or maintenance tasks.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a managed service provider. We work with a distributor who's a reseller. We have clients that use this product regularly.

I'd advise new users to do their research on Microsoft products and understand what's included and what's not included in the packages they already have.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

Its integration with the Microsoft ecosystem is the key benefit, but onboarding of endpoint devices is not straightforward
Pros and Cons
  • "The key benefit of Intune is its integration with the Microsoft ecosystem."
  • "Onboarding of endpoint devices is not straightforward. The onboarding process was a little heavier than I thought it would be. That's the key improvement area. Obviously, the more control you have over the devices, the better it is."

What is our primary use case?

We're using it for endpoints or mobile devices. We are mainly using it for endpoints. For mobile devices, we are mainly using Workspace ONE.

What is most valuable?

The key benefit of Intune is its integration with the Microsoft ecosystem.

What needs improvement?

Onboarding of endpoint devices is not straightforward. The onboarding process was a little heavier than I thought it would be. That's the key improvement area. Obviously, the more control you have over the devices, the better it is.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about three years. I use it on a weekly basis.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I didn't have any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale. Getting used to using it instead of SCCM is an interesting shift because you don't manage policies the same way. There is a difference, so the scale of that is also interesting to address.

We probably have more than a hundred users.

How are customer service and support?

Their tech support is decent. Sometimes, getting to your first contact can take a little bit longer, but after that, it's pretty good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we were using Workspace ONE, but it was cost-prohibitive. We moved because of Microsoft's ecosystem. It was a business decision. The integration of the systems made it easier to stay with something like Intune.

How was the initial setup?

It's not trivial, but it's okay. It's not too complicated. You do have to make sure you read your documentation, and you get an idea of what you're trying to do.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's reasonable. They're not giving it away, but it's reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

If you can get help from Microsoft or if you can use the fast-track process, it would definitely be worth your while.

I would rate it a seven out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

It offers great visibility into automated deployment solutions
Pros and Cons
  • "It's not working perfectly, but Microsoft's Autopilot offers great visibility into automated deployment solutions."
  • "The reports aren't complete, and it's not easy to build custom reports. For example, Windows Autopilot isn't working well in cases where the computers don't have a good internet connection. Then the option is not good enough."

What is our primary use case?

My company requires control over the deployment process of new computers, and we have set up some profiles for specific applications to configure the access policies and define permissions for certain objects or documents. That's the most common use case.

What is most valuable?

It's not working perfectly, but Microsoft's Autopilot offers great visibility into automated deployment solutions.

What needs improvement?

The reports aren't complete, and it's not easy to build custom reports. For example, Windows Autopilot isn't working well in cases where the computers don't have a good internet connection. Then the option is not good enough. Microsoft could add an integration for managing Intel vPro chipsets. That would be nice.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started working with Intune three years ago.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I wasn't involved in some of the biggest deployments, but I think the solution is capable of handling various complex scenarios and architectures. We'll probably increase usage, but we don't have any plans in the near future.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft support is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used a different management solution called SOTI MobiControl, but I didn't switch because Microsoft Intune was better. I just changed companies.

How was the initial setup?

Implementing Microsoft Intune is easy. Total deployment takes about one to two weeks. You access the portal, buy the subscription, and configure everything. We have three administrators managing the solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I'm researching VMware Workspace ONE, a new VM solution. I think it's interesting, but I don't have enough experience to give specific feedback about that tool.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Microsoft Intune nine out of 10. I think my company needs to define the use cases for each user type and organization type. For example, we have to consider if the client has policies configured with Active Directory and assess to identify which policies are required in the new management solution then configure only the settings that they require.

User-friendly and well organized interface, good security options, and straightforward deployment
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is not complex."
  • "The security features should be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I work for a company as an administrator for Office 365, and I use Microsoft Intune in this capacity.

We implement this solution in conjunction with Microsoft IIS.

It is an enterprise mobility tool that is used for mobile application management and mobile device management.

How has it helped my organization?

This product allows us to restrict users who have access to the system, or to Office 365. We have to enroll the devices and give the users rights as directed by our management or security department.

What is most valuable?

The interface is friendly and well organized.

What needs improvement?

The security features should be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Microsoft Intune for two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have more than 1,000 employees in the company, and there are about 500 users for this solution. Typically, it is used by managers and higher-ups.

How are customer service and support?

We have not yet had to open a support case with Microsoft. To this point, we have solved any problems ourselves. As such, technical support has not been a concern.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another similar solution prior to Intune.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex.

The length of time required for deployment depends on the number of people in the environment. It also depends on how adopted people are with this type of technology. Six months is enough to complete a full deployment.

Some of our deployments are on-premises, whereas others are on the cloud.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team was responsible for deployment. Based on our license, we have the option to engage with a partner but we haven't used them.

What was our ROI?

When it comes to security solutions, it is difficult to calculate the return on investment. This is because it is somewhat like car insurance, where car buyers are protected if something happens. If there are no incidents then you don't see it but you're still protected.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This cost is approximately $30 USD per user per month.

What other advice do I have?

This product is included with our Microsoft 365 E3 subscription.

My advice for anybody who is looking into this product is to try it before they buy it. Microsoft offers a program that allows them to do this.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Effective data security, useful manager, and simple installation
Pros and Cons
  • "The one feature we find most useful is the Mobile Application Manager. There are two types, we have the complete MDM and the Mobile Application Manager(MAM). We don't give our users phones, it is their own personal phone, and we need to allow them to have access to the company detail on their phone. We need to create a balance between their own personal data and the company data. We deploy the Mobile Application Manager for them so that we won't be able to interfere with their own personal data."
  • "In the next release, I would like a feature to be able to properly lock down the device. For example, if an attacker or somebody steals the phone, you can be sure that the pin cannot be broken."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft Intune to secure our mobile access when you're assessing your data from your mobile. Additionally, we use the solution to limit people from transferring files to people that are not part of our domain, and secure company data from exposure.

What is most valuable?

The one feature we find most useful is the Mobile Application Manager. There are two types, we have the complete MDM and the Mobile Application Manager(MAM). We don't give our users phones, it is their own personal phone, and we need to allow them to have access to the company detail on their phone. We need to create a balance between their own personal data and the company data. We deploy the  Mobile Application Manager for them so that we won't be able to interfere with their own personal data.

What needs improvement?

We are always working with Microsoft on improvements. Improvement is not something that is static, we are always looking for a dynamic way of working with Microsoft. We have a support and enterprise agreement with Microsoft. Every quarter, we review the performance of all our solutions and then we ask for further improvement.

In the next release, I would like a feature to be able to properly lock down the device. For example, if an attacker or somebody steals the phone, you can be sure that the pin cannot be broken.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Intune for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found Microsoft Intune to be stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Intune is scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is not complex.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to ensure that the technical people are well versatile and trained, especially the technical people that will implement Microsoft Intune.

I rate Microsoft Intune a nine out of ten.

Quick implementation and integration with Windows OS
Pros and Cons
  • "Stable product that's easy to set up compared to other MDM products."
  • "No option to do end-to-en macOS management. Slow implementation of policies."

What is most valuable?

The most important part is that they're fast in implementing and integrating with the Windows operating system, as well as how it integrates with other Office 365 products.

What needs improvement?

There is no option to do end-to-end macOS management. The second thing is that the actions or policies don't get applied immediately, so there should be much faster way of implementing the policies. If you wanted to implement some actions on the device, it doesn't happen very quickly.

I'd also add more flexibility with the mobile device management part of it. At the moment, it's very limited compared to other MDM providers, so there should be more options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using it for four or five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Intune is quite stable.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft's technical support isn't very good. They're very slow in responding. You get a response, but the problem is if you have an issue with a feature or a critical bug, the response is very slow.

How was the initial setup?

It is very easy to set up compared to other MDM products.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
