We can scale a production (or proposed) use case based on normalized real data, and know exactly the horsepower it will need.

What is most valuable?

We leverage Turbonomic for all of our planning activities. It provides us the tools we need to plan the scaling of our virtual desktop infrastructure.

How has it helped my organization?

In the past, we would try to manually capture resource utilization, and then use raw math to extrapolate growth requirements. With Turbonomic, we can scale a production (or proposed) use case based on normalized real data, and know exactly the horsepower it will need.

What needs improvement?

I think that our only limitation to date is that we have yet to tap in to its full potential.

For how long have I used the solution?

18 months.

We can reclaim license costs and forecast future resource needs.

What is most valuable?

Great product! We were able to correctly size our VMs giving back CPU, memory, and storage capacity to be used in other projects. We can now reclaim license costs and forecast future resource needs.

What needs improvement?

  • For report scheduling, lacks the ability to define the time of day when the report was run.
  • Needs to be easier ways to define N+1 capacity when looking at cluster statistics.
  • Can't wait for the HTML 5 version. The flash sometimes has response issues.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this product for over a year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

We had issues when trying to deploy the solution on a Linux VM. We ended up abandoning it. Instead, we used the Turbonomic packaged SUSE instance. We had no issues with that deployment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Occasionally after changes in our environment, we often needed to restart the Tomcat service on the instance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There were no issues with scalability.

Customer service was great. They were always responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Improvements for performance or growth can be executed without human interference.

What is most valuable?

Automation of improvements and the planning module.

How has it helped my organization?

We can use the planner to support a business case. Improvements for performance or growth can be executed without human interference. You only have to think about it once then its fire and forget.

What needs improvement?

I overheard that the report granularity could be improved.

The only issue I had in the past is the fact that the manager was equipped with only one hard disk so excessive logging could cause an issue. But that was solved in a new version.

For how long have I used the solution?

We use the product for about 2 years now.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No issues encountered and the deployment took us about 15 minutes. That is basic default setup. Without policies defined.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In the latest version we had no issues. In an earlier version we had a disk space issue due to logging.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No, we have a steady growing Global environment and we didn't have issues so far.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Excellent.

Technical Support:

Same as Customer service. Quick, professional and always prepared to follow up.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We first used VeemOne but the added value because of the automation feature pulled us in.

How was the initial setup?

Initial set up was very easy. Support helped us with some additional steps to take for the creation of policies.

What about the implementation team?

Implementation was done in-house.

For final tuning and automation features we got help from technical support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is very competitive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, Veeam One.

What other advice do I have?

Great added value to our business.

I like that I can monitor all my environments resources from one central console.

What is most valuable?

- The fact that I can monitor all my environments resources from one central console.

- I can provide a report on each individual machine if requested.

- I can trust Turbonomics to streamline my environment by allowing it to perform certain actions.

It is like we hired a junior system admin that works 24 hours a day to keep our environment in top form.

What needs improvement?

The Graph and Report outputs could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Turbonomics (VMTurbo) for about 1.5 years now.

No.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Excellent. Rob and a few other guys from Turbonomics are always willing to help. Because I have taken over from a senior resource that has left the company, I have a standing WebEx every month to review my Turbonomics environment. They are always willing to assist.

Technical Support:

Excellent. Almost all issues are resolved a few hours after a service call has been logged.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This is our first performance capacitor tool.

How was the initial setup?

Straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

Installation took place a little before my time. But as far as what I can gather, it was a hybrid of in-house and vendor. The installation was performed via a RD session.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

No.

We add and remove resources based off our optimization report.

What is most valuable?

There are a few we can't live without. Rightsizing (Optimization), Monthly Summary & Cluster Capacity along with the Planning.

How has it helped my organization?

There are no more arguments between departments anymore. We add and remove resources based off our optimization report. And we no longer have to allocate absurd amounts of resources to cover for crappy code.

What needs improvement?

Every once in a while when we perform an upgrade, it wipes out our setting. We need to go in and set it back up again. This is mildly annoying.

For how long have I used the solution?

5 years

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No - Very easy.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No

How is customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Customer Service is excellent. I have yet to open a ticket and not have my problem looked at right away. 99% of the time, the issues were resolved right away.

Technical Support:

Excellent - Very knowledgeable

How was the initial setup?

It was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

This was in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Agree that it is worth what you spend. We have used it about 2 years and seen a return on investment and that being not requiring any new hardware just yet.

The software was able to provide us with recommendations on correctly sizing the platform.

What is most valuable?

The software has truly improved the performance of our VM environment.  The software has made noticeable improvements in DRS.  Turbonomics has made numerous upsizing and downsizing recommendations of virtual machines which allowed us to reclaim and redistribute valuable HW resources.

How has it helped my organization?

We had CPU issues with one of our SQL servers.  The software was able to provide us with recommendations on correctly sizing the platform eliminating many of the performance problems.

What needs improvement?

The software functions as advertised. There are charts and graphs in the dashboard that are confusing to read and understand.  It would be nice to have a detailed explanation of what the graph is showing directly accessible from the UI.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the software for just over 6 months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The deployment and onsite implementation with the instructor was very helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy and straight forward.  The company provides you with an OVA template to get you going within an hour.

Interface needs to loose Flash completely and switch to HTML5.

For how long have I used the solution?

1.5 years

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No, the product ran just fine, though on a couple of occasions performing a version upgrade did not complete and required several attempts.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No, we scaled our ESXi hosts and VMTurbo scaled accordingly.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Excellent! Both pre-service and post-service were world class. The company has a vested interest in ensuring their customers know what they are buying and are supported with great care.

Technical Support:

Excellent as well. Minor issues with version updates were quickly corrected/addressed and questions about configuration and optimization were handled very promptly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

No.

How was the initial setup?

Very straightforward and simple. Adding monitored components was a bit cumbersome and required some help from support but in the end everything was successfully identified and properly connected.

What about the implementation team?

In-House!

What was our ROI?

Hard to put in exact numbers, however many hours have been saved each week in optimization and monitoring.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
