I seem to find a new bug with each new version. It's software, so I can understand, but I think the QA process needs improved.

Customer Service:

I've been impressed with the customer service team's desire to help and keep things smooth.

Technical Support:

Technical support is excellent. The support crew work very hard to ensure that we have what we need, from basic information and support, to getting custom SQL queries written.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Reflex/StrataCloud. We moved for the ease of use and the workload placement functionality.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was performed by a teammate who has moved on, but as I recall, it was a straightforward process.

What about the implementation team?

In-house.

What was our ROI?

I'm not able to speak to this. I don't have the financial data to determine a real ROI. I don't believe it's been as high as the sales team initially claimed it would be, but that's at least partly due to our environments. It's not easy to make rightsizing decisions in an environment where applications may not always be running on a box.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Take the time to evaluate the complete suite. The base package does a lot, but there are several modules that make the product more complete end to end, and are at least worth investigating.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not. The teammate mentioned previously had used the product in a prior role and was able to convince the required parties of the tool's value.

    The auto resource leveling on my hyper-v cluster saves my staff so much time on monitoring and performance tuning.

    Server staff gained 4 hours a week in time they did not have to devote to items other than watching a hyper-v cluster utilization.

    What needs improvement?

    This product works well. Only thing I would say is to add tie in with more storage vendors like Nimble.

    We have had the solution for 2 years now.

    Deployment was very smooth, as have been upgrades.

    We have not had any issues with stability of the product or causing unintended crashes of other parts of the virtual systems.

    We have not reached the limit scaling yet.

      What needs improvement?

      Turbonomic needs to find how to have the appliance OS up to date. Per our security tool, it has missing patches.

      A real central management console to manage all the instances from one place.

      Three months.

      No, if you use the VMturbo appliance, you can have the tool running in a couple of hours.

        There are three main areas that we find priceless. The automation, planning/forecasting and reporting.

        What is most valuable?

        There are three main areas that that we find priceless. The automation, planning/forecasting and reporting.

        How has it helped my organization?

        The reporting has allowed us to quickly evaluate our VM infrastructure and where we stand on a day to day basis. The planning/forcasting feature has allowed us to plan for additional hardware. At times, it has saved us lots of money when we did not need to purchase additional hardware even though we thought we would.

        What needs improvement?

        The new HTML5 version is not as user friendly as I had hoped.

        For how long have I used the solution?

        We've had Turbonomic deployed for about 12 months now - plus the initial trial period.

        What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

        Deployment was very straightforward. Transition from trial to fully licensed was just as simple

        What do I think about the stability of the solution?

        Turbonomic has been very stable. Honestly, we forget it's even running, until we need to look at a report or have growth/expansion plans for our infrastructure.

        What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

        No, we have not. Initially we used it for our Production Cluster but have recently expanded it to our SQL Cluster without issue.

        How are customer service and technical support?

        Customer Service:

        They are fast, polite and knowledgable.

        They are on par with customer service; fast, polite and knowledgable.

        No, we did not use anything beforehand.

        Straightforward with no issues.

        It has saved us from buying lots of hardware that we would have bought if it weren't for Turbonomic. The planning/forcasting tool is the most valuable feature. This feature alone will pay for itself because it saves you from purchasing unneeded hardware in the first year alone.

        The pricing is very competitive and much cheaper than VMware.

        VMware Operations Manager.

        What other advice do I have?

        Any company with a virtual infrastructure should have Turbonomic.

            5/5 stars, representatives have always been able to rapidly address any technical concern and get any changes up and running when we need them!

              We have a lot more visibility on what is happening on a single pane of glass.

              What is most valuable?

              Starting from the reporting and recommendations, every feature has been very helpful. Even when we decided to not fully automate it, now we have a lot more visibility into what is happening, on a single pane of glass.

              How has it helped my organization?

              We use the tool to properly size the virtual servers and get a lot of resources back, while reducing the Ready time, so that was like winning twice.

              What needs improvement?

              I would like to have a report to see all the snapshots.

              For how long have I used the solution?

              About a year now.

              What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

              No issues at all. That was the goal since the first call: please don't bring me something else to manage that will take forever to be in place. Thirty minutes on the phone and the tool was working.

              Excellent.

              Technical Support:

              Great too. Didn't go to anybody who didn't knew what was doing. Sometimes when you call to support, you get that feeling that the guy is not following you or does not have a clue what you're asking for. That never happens with their support.

              Very straightforward. Thirty minutes on the phone and the tool was working.
